EVATON. - The wife and daughter of Solomon Sibeko (70) reeled in disbelief when they saw his brains splattered across their bedroom. This was from the single gunshot that instantly ended his life. It was a normal Thursday morning last week when neighbours awoke to a heart-rending scream from Sibekos’ house. The scream came just after a gunshot. Concerned neighbours rushed in to find that the old man had killed himself. Sibeko had used his licensed 9mm pistol to end his life.

Police spokesperson Constable Tshifiwa Mitileni says Police have opened an inquest. “We are not sure what led to the old man ending his life. However, the family said the old man had been ‘seeing things’ and hearing words of people calling him and this led them to believe that he had been bewitched,” says Mitileni. The problem was apparently aggravated by a family dispute over the family stand. According to the deceased’s daughter, Sibeko came to her room and asked her to take care of her mother since he was in a serious

state of delusion. As she tried to ask her father why he said that, she noticed he was holding a gun. A moment after she screamed for her mother, the gun fired and Sibeko was no more. “We knew Sibeko as one of the old men around. He was a very humble, quiet man who didn’t talk a lot. I still can’t believe he ended his life,” said a bystander. Most community members could not believe news of the old man’s death as they stood outside the family house, watching Sibekos’s body being removed and taken away in a government mortuary van.

SEDIBENG. – The national elections are over, the nation has spoken by making their mark to fight against corruption, crime, poverty and to pursue a better life. The ball is in the hands of the elected political parties to make sure that they serve the people. It is up to them to listen and carry out the mandate of the people. The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has declared that it conducted the fifth democratic elections fairly. Advocate Pansy Tlakula, head of the IEC, has thanked the nation for voting as it served to confirm “our country and nation’s commitment to advance our hardwon democratic values.” The national office of the IEC said with reference to Sedibeng District Municipality (Emfuleni and Midvaal) that all went well with minor hiccups and less irregularities reported than before. Despite the ANC in Gauteng declining in votes as compared to 2009, it still leads the Gauteng legislature with 40 seats, while the DA got 23, with newcomer EFF making inroads. The ANC leads both the national and Gauteng Provincial votes in the Emfuleni District. On national level 69% of Emfuleni residents voted for the ANC with the DA voted in at 18.82%. The EFF won 6.85% of Emfuleni votes nationally. Provincially, Emfuleni residents voted for the ANC at 68.0%, DA 20.1% and EFF at 7.26.fared less well in the Sedibeng region, gaining only a place in the national parliament, are PAC and APC with 1 seat each, Cope and the ACDP with 3 seats, the Freedom Front plus and UDM with 4, NFP 6 and IFP with 10. Local political leaders thanked the residents for the trust they showed in casting their votes and for their support.

Shooting drama at Nando’s Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. – Customers and staff of Nando’s had to take cover last Wednesday when Mavuso Elijah Mazibuko (39), a bodyguard of Sedibeng District Municipality executive mayor Simon ‘Sy’ Mofokeng apparently fired several shots inside the restaurant. Two people were hit. The shooting occured at about 20:00. A victim, Johnny More, was shot in the head. He was airlifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital where he died a few days later. Police spokesperson Sergeant Gertrude Makhale said Mazibuko is facing three charges, attempted murder, murder, and discharging a firearm in public. A woman, Mookgo Tseke, was shot in the thigh and was transported to Em-

fuleni Mediclinic in a serious but stable condition. Eye witnesses who asked to remain anonymous said after the shooting people were searching for the cartridges before Police arrived. Police later retrieved only two cartridges. Mazibuko briefly appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on May 8. The case was postponed and he will remain in custody. The shooting happened in full view of the Mayor. According to the Mayor’s office Mofokeng was not involved in the situation that led to the shooting. The families of Mazibuko and More have confirmed that they knew each other. Sedibeng Ster was inundated with calls following the shooting and met with people present during the incident. “The victim tried to run outside, but the

MEYERTON. - A well attended meeting of the Midvaal Business Chamber and African National Congress (ANC), Progressive Professional Forum (PPF) dialogued on the Vaal Metro Municipality economic development . The dialogue was hosted at the Merchant Business Hotel, Henley-on-Klip recently. The keynote speaker, Gauteng MEC for Economic Development, Eric Xayiya, said Emfuleni is the biggest economy with under 19 billion people, followed by Midvaal with 3,8 billion with 24% of Emfuleni. The government will leave no stone unturned as it’s going to focus on Meyerton by injecting more investors, Xayiya says. “Business people must think money and stay away from the politics,” he added. MEC Xayiya was joined by Councillor Mahole Mofokeng, executive mayor of Sedibeng District Municipality, Maipato Tsokolibane Sedibeng MMC for Economic Development and Tourism and Assistance Mshudulu, MMC for Development and Planning. Mofokeng said the future is bright in Sedibeng as the level of poverty was 48% and unemployment 50% in 2001. Emfuleni has taken the lead to reshape the municipality with its tax-based growth. Get up, stand up… energy on vengeance but, to start with, one should stand their ground and not let every Piet, Jan and Koos mess around with them. The world doesn’t need a timid person that takes all the hits. The world needs a person who says: “No way, it’s my right and I will stand up for it”. I know it doesn’t matter how evolved, patient, or emotionally mature you may be. People are going to push your buttons. Some peo-

ple in your life are master button-pushers. They know exactly what to say or do to change you from a calm and happy person into a furious maniac. Quite often the best button-pushers are the people closest to you — your spouse, romantic partner, children, and close friends. But other people can push your buttons too — often without even knowing what they are doing. Until you bite their little heads off. Then they totally

get it. I’ve been told, accept things that you can’t change and you’ll be happy. I agree to an extent. But I’ve also learned that you have to be yourself and fight for what you believe in. You don’t ever have to accept anything that doesn’t seem right to you. Speak your mind and stay strong. If you are not willing to fight for what you believe in, then don’t even enter the ring. ‘Walk a Mile in my Shoes’ Challenge!

For seven million South African school children, their lack of shoes is hampering their ability to get an education. And while no one questions the importance of a good education in escaping poverty and improving job opportunities, the lack of even one pair of shoes can keep children out of school simply because the road is too rough or it is too cold to walk any distance bare feet. Trinco Team in collaboration with Sedibeng Ster is doing something about this in the Vaal Triangle area! Trinco Tea’s newly launched CSI campaign ‘Walk a Mile in my

Shoes’ covers 540 schools in Gauteng and the Free State aims to provide school shoes to learners who really need them. Pupils are encouraged to collect as many empty Trinco Tea packets as possible and bring them to their schools. The ten schools who collect the most Trinco Tea packets will win R20 000 worth of school/computer equipment and the Top 3 of these 10 schools will receive a brand new pair of Green Cross school shoes for each learner. Slindile Nodangala, also known as Ruby Dikobe in Generations, has added her voice

to the campaign. The campaign closes end of July. Put your best foot forward and help a school child win a pair of shoes with Trinco! Deliver your collection of Trinco Tea packets to the school of your choice or simply deliver them at MooiVaal Media’s offices in Vanderbijlpark or Vereeniging, and tell us to which school you would like to present it. Our staff will make sure that your packets

reach the preferred destination! Six readers can also win a hamper worth R500 from Trinco Tea. Just answer this simple question: Which tea launched the “Walk a mile in my Shoes” campaign? SMS your answer to 45534. Start your SMS with SHOES, followed by the answer, followed by your name and surname. Every SMS costs R1-50 and should reach us not later than June 30.

All school kids can take part in Trinco Tea's competition to make it possible for less fortunate kids to get school shoes. You can also help your school win R20 00 in prizes!

The 49-year-old wife Mariana Annendale could not take the cold in the hole and decided to walk away, she has not been seen since. Piater could not hold back his tears as he was explaining how he felt sorry for his wife who could not take the cold at night. It seems as if the wife could not take being homeless because it caused an exceptional risk to her physical health, personal safety and psychological well-being. Piater says, “Without a stable living arrangement I cannot provide for my wife, I am very hurt that she left and do not know where she went. I just hope she is safe and that she will come back to me.” When asked what went through his mind at night while sleeping in the hole he says, “I could not sleep I kept asking myself why this was happening to us, but with God’s grace I am safe. “Jabulani Mabe, the man who found us really helped me. He gave me a room here at Vereeniging Old Hospital (known commonly as 21) even though the room does not have windows or a door it is better than sleeping outside”.

Tuckshop owner worried about ID as shop burns down Lazarus Dithagiso

BOPHELONG. - The owner of a tuckshop that caught fire and burned to ashes did not worry about the amount of damage caused by the fire. His main concern, was only how he was going to obtain another Identity Book (ID). The shop, made of corrugated iron, apparently burned after the fire was started by a stove in Bophelong Extension 11 on Monday at around 17:45. The owner, Mashaba,

as he is commonly called, cried tears for his ID. He said, “ It’s hard for us Shangaan people to obtain documents at the Home Affairs Department.” When the fire started, all the water taps were dry. A 14-year-old shopkeeper was left alone in the store to help customers. One of the neighbours who managed to assist during the fire said, “ The fire started from another room. Should we not have forcefully opened the door, the RDP house

attached to the shack could have burned including the neighbouring shacks. It was very late when some members of the public with the assistance of the Emfuleni Fire and Rescue Department managed to bring the flames under control. Mashaba could not exactly explain the total damage he suffered as he was busy crying for his ID book lost in the fire. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire and the damage is not yet known.

VEREENIGING.- Homelessness is the most extreme form of social exclusion and is a strong indicator of social injustice in any society. A couple made a home out of a hole the husband dug on the ground when they had nowhere to go in Vereeniging recently. Jacobus Piater (47) was recently left homeless when his landlord evicted him and his wife for apparently failing to pay rent. The couple spent four nights in the hole with their two cats with nothing to eat or drink. It appears that Piater and his family were evicted from their house in Hofmeyer Ave-

Mama Mariam is really a God sent to us! My entire family & I couldn’t believe it at first but after I paid for the magic ring, & performed the cleansing rituals, it made me win the lotto. It was Saturday when we played lotto, we were surprised to see the numbers, I won 4 million. I was so happy. Thanks Mama Mariam now we bought a new home, my business is back again. We are soon going to Paris for a holiday. Thanks Mama you have brought happiness to my life. She also helps with other problems: Love, Luck, Lost Lover, Buisness, Marriage, Work, Etc.

The day was a great success with the kids enjoying each and every moment. I also want to take this opportunity to thank Bongani Mahlangu for spending his time with us today,” said Lennox. “This ongoing initiative is an attempt to revive boxing in Sedibeng. As the municipality our duty is to support all sporting codes in the Emfuleni area,” said Emfuleni Local Municipal representative Thanduxolo Madikizela.
