SaSol Banyana Banyana conduct coaching clinicS in Zamdela. Sasol Banyana Banyana took time off from their busy schedule on Wednesday afternoon, 4 June 2014 to conduct coaching clinics to leaners at Credo Primary School in Zamdela. As part of our Corporate Social Responsibility initiative, Sasol invited Sasol Banyana Banyana to spend the afternoon with the leaners from the Sasol Dreamfields soccer development project, teaching them some of ladies’ amazing football skills. The team was welcomed by more than two hundred leaners, both male and female from the different schools in the area. Sasol Banyana Banyana coach, Vera Pauw and the players took the leaners through football drills and some small sided games. “The welcome we received at the school was overwhelming, it shows the kind of support we have in Zamdela. It is always great to give back to the communities across the country and we are grateful to Sasol for creating an opportunity for us to interact with the kids,” said Janine van Wyk, Sasol Banyana Banyana Captain.

“Sasol invests in creating shared values for communities by involving them. Sport, in particular football, is one of the fundamentals that unites people and we are privileged at Sasol to be involved in this spectrum with the South African Women’s National team,” said Dr Esmé Young, Manager CSR and Community Affairs (Ikusasa) at Sasol, Sasolburg. The team held a camp in the Vaal Triangle last week, preparing for their international friendly match against Botswana on Saturday, 7 June 2014 at the Isak Steyl Stadium, Vaal University of Technology. The match formed part of their preparations for the upcoming 2014 African Women’s Championships to be held in Namibia from 11 – 25 October.

MKs claim innocence on invasion of RDP houses

Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Two members ofMembers of Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association (MKMVA) distanced themselves from accusations that they took part in the invasion of RDP houses in Golden Gardens recently. Michael ‘Shakes’ Matsaneng said he and other MK members were attacked and assaulted by members of the community for no apparent reason on May 17. Matsaneng said he was hit on the mouth with a firearm. “As I was running, Ward Councillor Mthuzimele Sikulula pulled out a firearm and shot me in the leg.” “ If indeed the MKs wanted to invade the houses, where were the security officers?” he asked. Spilling the beans, Matsaneng said about 90% of the houses in Golden Gardens are illegally occupied by people from Transkei and other parts of the country. Matsaneng said the occupants were brought there with the help of the Ward councillor. “We were disappointed when Mayor Hlongwane said we deserved this kind of punishment,” said Matsaneng. Ramotsidise ‘Ram” Tau, a member of the MK, also dismissed allegations that they in-

vaded the houses: “We went there to identify the houses as per resolution taken by the ANC in Polokwane. It stated that MKs must be given ten houses in every new section built. “We are disciplined, loyal members of the ANC. We won’t take houses illegally and never marked the houses.” Tau said they suspect the houses were marked after they were assaulted. Asked why the regional chairperson of MK Daddy Thinane had distanced himself from what they had done, Tau said, “Don’t mention that one.” He adds that since being assaulted, both ANC regional secretary Bob Mthembu and Emfuleni Local MunicipalitySafety MMC Velly Mcera haved never bothered to investigate the matter: “This shows that we have leaders who want to see blood shed in the community. Emfuleni employee, Benny, should be lauded as a hero for saving our lives,” they concluded. Photo: Behind is Michael Matsaneng with a bandaged leg after being shot and Ra motsidise ‘Ram’ Tau. VUT beefs up security after murder of student Lazarus Dithagiso and McDonald Tait

VANDERBIJLPARK. - The Vaal University of Technology (VUT) has indefinitely suspended a third-year Computer System Engineering student of the Engineering Faculty. The suspension comes after a 25-yearold Zimbabwean suspect was arrested for the alleged murder of a Nigerian female stuLeft: Mike Khuboni, executive director: Corporate Affairs, addresses the media after a student was murdered at the resi dence. Mike Khuboni, VUT executive director: Corporate Affairs, said that, to date, the suspect has not been formally charged. “ The police are waiting for the DNA result before they link the suspect with the murder,” said Khuboni. The suspect is out on R5 000 bail and is in the custody of a relative in Kempton Park. The Magistrates Court has instructed the suspect, who cannot be named as he has not yet lodged a plea, to report to the local police station every Thursday. SHARPEVILLE.- With the increased use of fireplaces and home heating systems during the winter months, families need to take proper precautions to prevent dangerous fire situations. This comes after Lehlonoholo Tsotetsi (5) lost his life recently after their shack burned down in Tshepiso Phase 3. It is alleged by the grandfather that he left the children at a fireplace inside the house and went to bed early. rently stayed awhile as they were still cold. The grandfather, Letseka Mokoena says flames woke him up at dawn. As he tried to get all the children to safety the little one remained inside the house. After they realised that the boy was still inside, Dipolelo says she ran into the house to try and get him out. As they were on their way out the boy ran back into the bedroom and covered his head with a blanket out of fear. The grandfather ran inside and found the little boy lying in bed, but

it was already too late as the smoke he had inhaled was too much for him to handle. He was certified dead on the scene by paramedics. Letseka Mokoena (43) says, “This is a very painful situation for me to handle. “I never imagined that I would lose my grandchild through smoke. He was a very cheerful boy who always asked me for a R1 to buy bunny-chow and now he is gone”. The grandfather could not hold back his tears as he was telling the sad tale. The young boy’s 22-year-old mother was in Ficksburg, Free State, visiting relatives when the incident happened. The family is already challenged with poverty and, to top it all they lost their clothing and blankets to the fire.

The parents of the deceased have requested that the money be handed to them to avoid unnecessary expenditure. We are in good terms with the family.” The deceased was laid to rest over the weekend in Nigeria. SANBS controllers recognised Mr and

Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. - The South African National Blood Service thanks the controllers who participated in organised blood-drives by presenting certificates of appreciation and acknowledgement. This function for controllers was recently hosted at the Tropicana River Lodge. Melissa Baqwa, SANBS Public Relations Officer, said the aim of the function is to encourage members of the public to donate blood. “We have a controller team that works closely with different institutions. These are people who know the community they work with by heart. The SANBS in Vereeniging managed to reach its set targets with the assistance of the community in the region,” she says. Business people are encouraged to invite the team to host blood-drives in their organisation. Some recipients who obtained first prize were Sasolburg Square, Volkskool and Maxeke School, Meyerton Community Clinic and the Omnia Company.

SEBOKENG. - As prayers are said all over the world, suspected Boko Haram gunmen recently abducted 20 more women in Nigeria. The hashtag ‘Bring back our girls’ has become popular over the past months, with people worldwide rallying to urge the Boko Haram extremists to bring back more than 200 girls abducted on April 16. It seems that new words are added to the plea, as people have added words such as ‘safely’ and ‘alive’ as it is not known what their conditions are. The women of the United Reformed Church (URC), Evaton Circuit, last week marched the streets of Zone 14 in song, asking for the girls’ safe return. A powerful prayer session followed, especially dedicated to praying for their safe return. Held by a woman, one placard read: “My girl - Your girl. Act like real brothers and fathers; bring them back unharmed.” Reverend Mmabatho Bikitsha says, “We think it is important to support Nigeria through this tough time by joining the ‘Bring

back our girls’ movement. “As women who have brought children into the world, we understand the pain that has befallen those women whose kids were abducted in Nigeria. Not knowing where their girls are, whether they are safe or whether

they have been harmed.” Reverend Mirriam Tladi says, “Nobody knows what those girls are going through: if they are being fed, raped or even killed. All we are doing is just praying for their safe return.”

SHARPEVILLE. - Seniors were staged to compete in a beauty pageant on Friday at the Sharpeville Hall where Gogo Molefe and John Tladi clinched the prize as Vaal Seniors ‘Bold and Beautiful.’ The competition was organised by Tshidi Selematsela from correctional services. She organised seniors from different centres - the likes of Vaal Echos, Vaal Angels of Abantu, Kgopolang, Bokamoso Ba Setchaba, Tshwarang Lere and Ntate-Nhlomele. These elders had to be older than 70 to qualify to be among the finalists. The hall was packed by community members who shared the same sentiments with the elders. According to some elders, they are happy with such initiative. “Democracy came in handy for us, though I could do this as a young boy; but it is by God’s grace that I am now competing on the highest stage of them all,” said the winner of the Male Counterpart, Tladi. “There are many things our children and grandchildren could do, rather than committing crime and ending up in jail. They have to learn to respect their elders and stop abusing their rights. Mandela worked so hard to free us,” said the queen, Molefe. Selematsela said, “I just had a vision to honour the community and elderly people about the freedom to express themselves rather than being abused. This was to encourage, support and show love for our elders.” The pageant had a question and answer session in which elders had to answer democratic historical questions about the Vaal and the rest of the country.

Juvenile prisoners vow for change

GROENPUNT.- Annual International Children’s Day was celebrated by the Groenpunt Juvenile Centre on Wednesday,

where many took part in the programme that was fully embarked on and supported by numerous stakeholders, including Sasol, Youth Desk, SAPS, Love Life, Soul Provider,

Toughest Young Minds, Old Mutual, Sedibeng Community Safety and Provincial Community Safety. The event started with a most impressive rendering of the national Anthem by the juvenile boys choir who surprised all the attendees. Speaking on behalf of the Groenpunt Correctional Centre, Area Commissioner Mandla Mkhwanazi said, “Those boys have sinned against the community and they were convicted for their deeds, but do not unde estimate the power of rehabilitation. As we speak some of them are equipping themselves, through education. They are furthering their studies because we want them to leave here as different people.” As the day proceeded numerous young children from different schools were part of the programme. This exercise was to alert these young school kids about the dangers of crime and prison life from the horse’s mouth. The inmates managed to interact with the community and the learners learned more about crime, prison life and its consequences. “I really enjoyed the trip and to learn about prison, which is one place I would not wish anyone to be in,” said a learner.

9R_Na\ @R_R_\ The news that came in on Tuesday morning that suspected Boko Haram militants have again abducted at least 20 other women close to where 200-and-something schoolgirls were kidnapped in northern Nigeria is indeed horrifying. The women were apparently loaded onto vans at gunpoint and driven away to an unknown location. If Boko Haram sees their war against their government as not being fruitful and that they cannot win it, they should try other means and stop harassing their ‘girl children’ and women. That the army has also not commented on the recent kidnap also shows the lax way in which the Nigerian government is willing to

# Bring back our girls respond to the situation. It all goes back to showing that the rights of women are still not respected in this day and age. It’s very important to respect a woman, but we tend to forget that. It is very important that parents should teach their sons to be courteous towards women. A boy will treat a woman the exact same way that his father does. Education starts at home, and they (parents) play an important role. We must raise boys and girls to value each other, and view each other as equal. I think that parenting should be equal so that children see what shared partnership looks like. Gender inequities must be challenged, and women and girls must have true equality. Challenging the rape culture that is rife in our very own country should not be on the shoulders of an individual person only, but a shared responsibility of everyone in-

volved. We cannot tolerate this violence as we currently do. We have to hold ourselves accountable to doing this hard work, both within and outside the criminal legal system, through intersections and inclusive approaches. The Nigerian army has rightfully been criticised for failing to stop the militant attacks; they are the last line of defence for the Nigerian people yet they largely are inactive or even absent, allowing Boko Haram militants to continue their attacks. This should be put to a stop. The group has waged an increasingly bloody insurgency since 2009 and thousands of people have died in their attacks and the subsequent security crackdown. Certainly not all men, when refused their patriarchal dividend, take retribution against women as a class. But when mental illness, access to guns, bullying, and a culture of mi-

One of the responsibilities that come with being part of the society is having to promote and maintain high standards of academic achievement. “After being chosen by the school to be part of the society, we found out that we had to attend this summit. We would like to plead with the community to help us by sponsoring our trip to the summit that will take place on July 31 - August 3,” says Motia. sogyny come together in the life of troubled individuals the combination can be lethal. Ending male violence against women means changing societal norms, attitudes, and perceptions - for both men and women. We must continue to increase equality and decrease the marginalisation of women. At the same time, we must find new ways to raise boys and young men - ways that encourage them to respect and accept their own and others’ vulnerabilities. If we are serious as a culture about preventing future atrocities, we need to change the way we socialise boys and men. And we will need to dismantle a culture that routinely treats women and girls as sexual objects and targets of real and virtual violence. This should be put to a halt. Let us support the campaign, # Bring back our girls! Lerato...

What is “eating” Sedibeng?

What is eating the Sedibeng region? Shooting From The Hip asks this question because there was no Safa Sedibeng representative when Banyana Banyana arrived last Wednesday to prepare their international friendly match against Botswana at Isak Steyl Stadium over the weekend. There was no Safa Sedibeng representative to welcome the team. Shooting From Hip found himself having to answer some awkward questions from those who accompanied Banyana Banyana. What is eating this region? My disappointment doesn’t end there. On

the day of the match, Safa Sedibeng President Xolani Mtumtum was sitting at the grand stand and not in the VIP area. What is going on in this region as far as football is concerned? Maybe football administrators are happy with our football being run by politicians. If that is the case, Shooting From The Hip would rather be Safa President. Instead our football is run by politicians. Excuse me, president my foot! The truth is that I don’t need to campaign because the very people who campaigned to convince others they were the right candidates have destroyed our football. Even Emfuleni Municipal Mayor Councillor Gretha Hlongwane was taken aback by the situation. But Shooting From The Hip wants to believe that the mayor was not surprised by this because she is aware of the power struggle in our local football.

She is well informed about football politics in this region and maybe, one way or the other, she expected this from local football administrators. The question is: was Safa Sedibeng aware of the game in the first place? If not, who is to be blamed for this situation - because Shooting From The Hip is aware that this region is represented in the women’s football committee. The truth of matter is that: This region is sick, very sick and tired of the fact that football in this region has been treated like `bull@#$*’. It’s high time real football people stood up and took charge. By this I mean people with football knowledge and that doesn’t mean that if you play football at the highest level you will automatically be the first choice. We need people with education like Ntate Molefi Oliphant. The man was the most edu-

cated football administrator to have come into this region. Until now, we have simply appointed or elected people without any educational background; hence, we find ourselves in this mess. We need people who will go out there, negotiate for sponsorships - not just any ‘nobody.’ Come on somebody! Let’s put our egos aside for the sake of these children. If you don’t know, just get out of our way and leave football people to run football affairs. What happened last week is disgusting not give Banyana Banyana a proper welcome. We are a disgrace, an embarrassment to our children. We don’t lead by example, but by our egos. We allow our egos to go to our heads. We talk but fail to translate our words into action! Can somebody just SHUT UP for good?

in this tournament. All of us here at school are stunned by this achievement. We can’t believe that our school will go out there to represent the people of Sedibeng. I want to thank the school principal and teachers for their support,” he says. The school is affiliated to Safa Sedibeng Junior League and registered as Rising Stars FC. Mofokeng says the league has helped the school to achieve this victory. He says playing competitive games every weekend helped them a lot. His sentiments were echoed by his co-coach Lucky Kgaole, who also believes the school’s success was a team effort. Kgaole says they are ready to make Sedibeng proud in the tournament: “It might be our first appearance in the competition but this doesn’t mean we will be push-overs come Saturday. We will not be there to add numbers, but to compete. I have no doubt that the-

se boys will make us proud. The only thing we ask from Sedibeng people is their support. Yes, they might not be there physically, but spiritually they will be with us,” he conclu-

des. Meanwhile Banyana Bayana triumphed over Botswana (4-0) at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark on Saturday in a match that was a one way traffic. The match was Banyana’s preparations for the 2014 African Women Championship, AWC.

Arcon Primary to hoist Sedibeng flag high

Zacharia Nale

VEREENIGING. - New ‘baby on the-block’ Arcon Park Primary School will represent Sedibeng in the Danone Provincial u/12 PlayOffs scheduled to take place at WU Clements Stadium in Midrand, Johannesburg, on Saturday. This Vereeniging-based school achieved this feat after beating all Sedibeng primary schools in their cluster and regional playoffs. To make it interesting, this was the school’s first appearance in the competition and now they will represent Sedibeng in Provincial Play-Offs. School Coach Mohapi Mofokeng says this is unbelievable, taking into consideration that it was their debut in the competition: “This is a great achievement for the school because we are new in this tournament, but look where we are now. Even now I can’t believe that we will be representing Sedibeng

I was hesItant at fIrst “but the magIc worked for me” LV. kerry (52) VereenIgIng

LV.Kerry, Celebrates with family & friends; (few days after she had won the Lotto )

I was a bit sceptical about it at first but I finally discovered the truth. Rehamt is really God sent to us!! My entire family and I couldn’t believe it at first but after I paid for the magic ring & wallet, he performed the cleansing rituals which made me win the lotto. I am a widow who lost my husband 15 years ago after he got an accident on a freeway.

The business my husband left went down, houses were taken by his family because I had no children with him. My life turned upside down with no one to turn to. I thought of terminating my life but I had my family to think of. I was even chased out of my husband’s house by his brother and I ended up renting premises which made life became so hard for me.

Then my mother came with an article talking about Cedric’s magic ring and magic wallet. We were doubting it at first but later wanted to give it a try. I booked an appointment, and then we met Cedric , he charged us for the ring and magic wallet then performed special prayers for us. I took the ring home, had a bath with it and prayed , it was on Saturday when we played the lotto & casino and were so surprised to see the numbers; I won R 4 million, I was so happy. Thanks Rehamt, now I bought a new lovely home and my business is back again. We are soon going to Paris for a holiday with my family . cedric you have brought ever-lasting happiness to my life, Ican’t stop telling people about you. he also helps people – financial Problems – Love relationships – work crisis – family Problems – bad Luck – health Problems and many more
