SEBOKENG.- “uButhakathi lobu - This is witchcraft!” These are the words of local Bishop Butiki Leputla when he dug a goat carcass out of a shallow grave at Makobe’s house recently in full view of disbelieving neighbours and friends in Zone 11. A dog was lured by the smell of the decaying goat recently. According to the family, as they woke up, they found a dog loitering around the house and thought it was digging something up from beneath the tree in the yard. An old woman Mapheelo Makobe (72) thought it was nothing as she tried to pull the skin of the animal out of the grave. She was horrified to learn that it was a dead goat and screamed for help. Community members gathered to witness what they believe is witchcraft. Daughter Ntshabeng Makobe says they recently held a traditional ceremony and did not use a goat. They used two sheep. “Whoever is after us won’t succeed. We are going to trample the devil’s tricks in the name of Jesus! We did not slaughter any goat. This is shocking,” says Makobe. Bishop Leputla and the astonished neighbours started to pray together. The goat was without intestines, but two legs had been separated from the body and there was `muthi’ in its carcass. “We need to burn the carcass and freeze every step the witch took against the family. This was going to kill off the children in this house one by one. We need God’s protection and the Blood of the Lamb to cover this family,” says Leputla. Some community members were afraid to look, but some were curious and keen to help out. A five-litre container of petrol was brought forth and the carcass was burned. Some people thought it stubbornly resisted perishing and many stood around in the “expectation of witnessing the unexpected.”

“Nyaope” The new menace of today: says Sibiya Mduduzi Mathebula

SEBOKENG. - The Khulisa Disability Network embarked on a march against `nyaope’ on Saturday. The three-kilometre march was supported by Busa Drugs and Substance, the `Bana Bo Godimo’ Drop in Centre and Thetha Together. The campaign was initiated by Zolile Sibiya from Khulisa Disability Network, who says nyaope has taken over the lives of the innocent souls. He says nyaope is a current threat to lives, “We won’t have youth taking its rightful place in our future due to the epi-

demic that is killing our young people. says Sibiya. The march was led by Jerry Cingane, a wheelchair-bound man and other disabled people. Sibiya says they are thankful for all the support they have received from the community regarding the march. “It was very heart-warming to see how many people support us,” says Sibiya. Cingane says after the march there were 13 other young people who volunteered to be rehabilitated after seeing how concerned the community was in its fight against nyaope. “ God is on our side,” says Cingane.

Gogo delighted to receive title deed Moleboheng Chaha

EVATON. - 85-year-old Gogo Annah Mabe was more than delighted to be handed her title deed for the first time. This was when Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) in partnership with Gauteng Department of Human Settlementsas, as part of Mandela Day initiated title deeds issuing , which will benefit more than 160 households in Ward 19.

Mabe says she has lived in Evaton for decades, and this was the first time she really felt she owned the piece of land she and her grandchildren share: “I have been waiting for this piece of paper for a long time. Now I will die in peace knowing that no one will take that house away from my grandchildren when I am gone. I have never been this happy.” ELM Mayor Greta Hlongwane says: “I know a lot of people refer to the RDP houses

as matchstick boxes, but you need to remember that you are not only being given a house but a piece of land.”“Today we are only han-

ding out ten title deeds to initiate the process. The rest of the title deeds will be issued as a matter of urgency.” Hlongwane concluded.

From left are MMC Human Settlements Manana Khubeka, Anna Mabe and ELM Mayor Greta Hlongwane at the issuing of title deeds at the Evaton Multipurpose Centre recently.

Nelly & her husband (Happy to be re-married)

As a divorced mother of 2 kids, for 5 years I went through a lot of problems financially & worse after my divorce several men kept breaking my heart. I nearly committed suicide but thought of my kids. I visited many healers & priests but got no-results. Luckly a granny from my neighbourhood took me to Hashim. I paid R100 consultation fee and without me speaking a word, he showed me all my problems in a mirror and water, plus real-faces of people who were pulling me down.

He performed a special- prayer for me, cleansed me from bad-luck and gave me powerful love-crystals plus a special-ring (to fix financial-problems) UN-BELIEVABLE! After 3-days of prayer, My ex-husband called me to apologise & later we re-married. I also recently got a senior job promotion. There’s no other way to say thank you, but to tell everyone about Hashim’s super-natural powers.

SEBOKENG. - Wheelchair-bound community leader Jerry Cingane recently donated a wheelchair to another disabled young man, Thabang Mokoena (16) of Zone 7. Mokoena was born disabled in 1998 and he was raised by his mother, Christina Mokoena, after his father passed. Mokoena’s mother has been looking for help for Moekoena for many years and finally they met with physically challenged Cingane. Mokoena has been struggling because his old wheelchair was giving him problems. His mother was overjoyed by the gift. “I thank God for people like Cingane. God used Cingane and the community to answer my prayers. “My son burst out laughing in delight when he received the gift,” says Christina. When Sedibeng Ster arrived, Mokoena was sitting in his old wheelchair. Mokoena could not contain his excitement. Cingane, motivational speaker and chess coach, has vowed to help where he can and loves to encourage members of the community. “It is the little things that can make a huge difference,” concludes Cingane.

Zamdela singer impresses on Idols Mduduzi Mathebula

SASOLBURG. - “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” This was quoted from Faki Tsatsi’s Pastor Moratehe Sekete: “Tsatsi is a young boy with passion and a goal to make it in life. He’s a very humble young man who loves to praise God. I was not surprised to see him on TV. I know what kind of person he is and how much he loves his Godgiven talents,” says Sekete from the House of Praise. Tsatsi is one of the luckiest singers to storm and steal the hearts of thousands of South Africans who love SA idols. This 27-year-old from Zamdela showed his real colours in the early stages of the competition as he qualified for the elimination round at Sun City. He impressed all the judges at the Sunday event during the first broadcasting auditions of the 2014 competition held at Carnival City. “I’m very happy to represent Free State and Vaal, mostly Zamdela. Talent is very big around here. We need to channel it in the right direction,” says Tsatsi. He could not divulge more about the competition due to its rules. Tsatsi impressed the judges with the John Legend song “Stay with you.” “Life is too short. I have to make the best of it,” says Tsatsi.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Sedibeng College recently held a surprise event for 19 sewing students after they attended a three-monthNQF level 2 course of basic sewing. This course was very important for the next fashion mongers who first arrived without any knowledge or skills. The course is alleged to be sponsored by the National Skills Fund, which deals with strategic projects and social development initiative programmes to support unemployed students to in areas of scarce skills. The primary purpose of the event was to thank students for their excellent behaviour throughout the course and to encourage them to use their skills and talents in future. Lindiwe Mngadi, the facilitator and Lizette Pretorius provided each student with their own se-

wing machine. Students were taught to be creative and start making garments, jackets and trousers in their own style. Mngadi says this will help these students start their own business in future. “I’m over the moon and I want to thank you for your hard work. I am looking forward to seeing you using those sewing machines in your own businesses,” says Mngadi The second groups of students are currently in their second semester at Sedibeng College. “We are very happy that we have this programme which helps the unemployed at our college,” says Pretorius. “We will start our own business and sell our garments,” concludes Gladys Van Wyk, a 52-year-old student.

It is for a reason!

Ler at o Ser er o NewsEdi t or Comment s

It really is undeniably true, everything happens for a reason. It is not far-fetched that a miner works hard underground to get paid at the end of the day; it is not far-fetched that a soccer player trains every day to improve his skill and become better in the field at the end of the day, and it is also not a miracle that a believer goes to church every Sunday expecting wonders. All this happens for a reason. No matter what we do in life there will always be a reason why we had to do whatever we had to do or why whatever happened to us happened. So I say, whatever happens, happens for a reason. But there are things in life that we should let go of. Bishop T.D Jakes says, “There are people who can walk away from you. And hear me when I tell you this! When people can walk away from you, let them walk. I don’t want you to try to talk another person into

staying with you, loving you, calling you, caring about you, coming to see you, staying attached to you. I mean hang up the phone. When people can walk away from you, let them walk. Your destiny is never tied to anybody that left. And it doesn’t mean that they are a bad person; it just means that their part in the story is over and you’ve got to know when people’s parts in your story are over so that you don’t keep trying to raise the dead. You’ve got to know when it’s dead. If you are holding on to something that doesn’t belong to you and was never intended for your life, then you need to…… LET IT GO!!!” No matter how hard it was or is for us, sometimes our actions teach us lessons and will

help us in the future. When too many bad things happen in life and you get through them I believe you become a stronger and better person. There is not ONE thing in life that you do without a response or result from and to it. Many people find it hard to believe because most of the time bad things happen to good people. So it is indeed true that everything happens for a reason. Most of the time we might get angry about it but we have to realise that sometimes it happens for the best and we have to let things be. I believe that everything happens for a reason; this I believe-and you? Lerato…

A towering figure in the 20th century and a Nobel Laureate Nelson Mandela dedicated his life to the quest for a democratic South Africa. After 27 years of incarceration he became the epitome of courage and perseverance in the fight against the South African regime. Young people from around the world are now asking themselves who Nelson Mandela was and what his legacy means to humanity, for this reason the Mandela27 Project is of paramount importance. VUT management, students and various church leaders pray together Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. - About 22 priests and bishops from different denominations humbled themselves as they positively responded to the invitation for Prayer Day organised by the Vaal University of Technology’s (VUT) Vice Chancellor, Professor Irene Moutlana. The VUT Amphitheatre was full to capacity with students, a choir, SRCs and dignitaries, as men of God led them in prayer recently. In her welcoming address, Prof Moutlana said that divinity comes with prayer. “The VUT has realised that we have to appeal to the one and only mighty God to give us morale and to guide our children. “The students need guidance and prayer for success,” she said. In her message Prof Moutlana said that tough times never last, and God will definitely respond to our prayers.

Pastor Fihliwe Mosebi led a moment of silence to observe and ask for intervention from God and to remember students who passed away in the institution. Pastors and bishops were given opportunities to pray for council and executive management, students, unions, the issue of substance abuse, staff, violence, parents and the success of the institution. Dr Archbishop P Moloi of St Paul Apostolic Faith Mission International prayed a final general prayer. Israel Mosehle entertained the audience with gospel music, free of charge and Pastor Mthimkulu of Koinoinia Bible Church offered the music instruments for free. About 22 priests from different church de nominations gathered at the VUT Amphi theatre during Prayer Day, organised by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Irene Moutlana. Photo: Lazarus Dithagiso.

Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has encou raged learners to consider teaching as a postschool qualification.

SEBOKENG. - Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has encouraged learners to consider teaching as a post-school qualification. This was at the four-day Nelson Mandela Career Development Festival held at the Sedibeng FET College last week. Lesufi stated that it was crucial that teaching be recognised and respected as the mother of all professions. “Teaching has given birth to various fields of profession. This is why it is important for government to treat teachers with the utmost respect and give them recognition by paying them the salaries they deserve.” Lesufi even suggested that the salaries awarded to teachers be tax-free. The MEC’s closing remarks were that in order to get the best results, the quality of teachers had to be very high, which is why Gauteng is committed to hiring only the best teachers to ensure that the standard of education remains high. Sedibeng FET College Principal Dr Abe Mashele says, “With education you can liberate your family from poverty. Take action, inspire, challenge and make everything count. SEDIBENG. - This past week the Sedibeng community for the first time celebrated Mandela Day without the fallen hero Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela. Ordinary members of the community, go-

Prosecutor helps spoil children on Mandela Day Lazarus Dithagiso

BARRAGE. - Pupils in rural areas were delighted to find themselves rubbing shoulders with Vanderbijlpark senior prosecutor Retha Venter and her entourage. She was accompanied by the Rotary Club. Venter said she was excited to meet with the children in the informal settlement, especially as part of the ‘67 minutes’ of the day dedicated to late former President Nelson Mandela. In a bid to cheer the rural communities and show they are not forgotten, she supplied them with ‘dri-mac’ and/or windbreakers, sweets and juice, sponsored by the Vanderbijlpark Rotary Club. They also spoiled the elderly with blankets. This proved clearly that the people of the Vaal can work together. Venter, Councillor Phillip Nothnagel, and the Vanderbijlpark Rotary Club, tackled two projects to commemorate Mandela Day. The organisers relied on a number of enthusiastic

volunteers to ensure the success of the projects. Puseletso Nthupi, a Court Preparation Officer, gave a very interesting talk on ‘perso-

nal safety’ for children. She told children what to do if they think they have been raped or are being sexually molested. The day en-

ded on a moving note when all the children spontaneously burst into song to thank everybody involved in the project. Vanderbijlpark senior prosecutor Retha Ven ter (third from left), her staff and the Vander bijlpark Rotary Club, entertained the child ren in the rural areas with sweets and dona ted drimacs. The el derly were spoiled with winter blankets as part of celebrating 67 minutes of Mandela Day at the Barrage Pri mary School. Photo: Lazarus Dithagiso.

No matric certificate, no PSL contract. Period! This week my colleague Moleboheng “Lebo” Chaha raised an exciting debate when she asked Yours Truly (Shooting From The Hip) why Safa and PSL doesn’t introduce a law that to play professional football all the players must have a matric certificate. This follows a weekend newspaper report that soccer darling Benedict Vilakazi was back home, living in the back-room of his parents’ house. This is the man who played in big teams in South African football, such as Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns. He also plied his trade overseas. However, it never rains but pours for him. I think my colleague Lebo has a point knowing that I’m directly involved with Development football in this country. She believes that this thing of South African players run-

ning away from school will come to an end cause the governments and their football asif Safa in conjunction with PSL can introduce sociations take care of them, especially those this law. who represented their country at international Shooting From The level. Hip agrees with Lebo This columnist always SHOOTI NG emphasises the need for all 100% because this is a big challenge, with soccer players to get educatiFROM too many former on, but my plea for the past THE HI P South African soccer ten years has fallen on deaf players having turned ears. Vilakazi is one of many local soccer fans But this is not the case compared to other whose story touches millions of South Africountries, especially European countries, be- cans. In his prime, he was admired by many

because of his talent. My colleague believes that to sign a PSL contract it must be compulsory for players to further their studies. To be honest, a player’s education should be a top priority when he signs a contract with any PSL club. South Africa needs leaders. Football needs educated football administrators. It doesn’t mean all the players will be coaches. But there’s no way we can we continue like this! As things stand parents blame football every time their kids fail at school. It is because they know development coaches don’t encourage players to get education. Only a few coaches encourage their players to go to school but others are only interested in boys’ talent. My colleague is right – no matric certificate, no PSL contract!

SEBOKENG. - Sedibeng Amateur Boxing Organisation chairman Morena Tsotetsi hailed an Amateur Boxing Tournament at Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14 as a success on Saturday. The tournament saw boxers from as far afield as Soweto, Springs, Kaltehong, Zamdela and other neighbouring areas trade leathers. This development tournament staged by the Sedibeng Amateur Boxing Organisation in conjunction with Emfuleni Local Municipality Sports and Recreation. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports after the fights Tsotetsi says the tournament was a great success with local clubs coming in

numbers to participate. Tsotetsi was overwhelmed by the talent displayed that day. He says that kind of display means the future looks great for boxing in this region. “I think we are on the right track if what I saw over the weekend is anything to go by. I identified a lot of positive things in and out of the ring during the tournament. I have no doubt that the tournament brought back good memories in this region as far as boxing is concerned,” he concludes. Meanwhile, Tsotetsi says they wish to thank the Emfuleni Local Municipality for support represented by Tommy Maleka from the Mayor’s Office and Thanduxolo Madikezela from the Sports Department.

SHARPEVILLE. - Young and old lined the streets of Sharpeville last week to keep themselves fit and healthy. This was when they participated in a fun walk every morning from Monday to Friday. This news was brought to Sedibeng Ster Sports by Dimakatso Health Care and the Development Centre’s instructor Dimakatso Sejake. Sejake says the purpose of the project was to keep the community, especially the elderly, healthy and fit. This was the first initiative of its kind in this region to date. According to Sejake they started with a fun walk from Tshepiso Rand, Havana and

finished at Tshepiso Phase Three at 08:00 in the morning. The fun walk was absolutely free! “We want to promote health and fitness in our community because we want young and old to take care of themselves. It has been a while since we introduced this programme and the response was positive, especially in the neighbouring community. Our interest is to save our society because most people die, not because they are sick but because of their lifestyle,” says Dimakatso.
