BOPHELONG. - Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga announced on Tuesday morning that the 2014 national matric pass rate of 75.8% “sadly has a drop of 2.5 percentage points” from the previous year. Gauteng clinched Best Performing Province, taking last year’s title from the Free State with 84.7% . The economic hub province is followed by North West, which achieved 84.6%. One of the best-performing schools in Sedibeng is Bophelong Secondary School, which
attained a pass rate of 98.29% as only two learners out of 117 didn’t make it. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster the school’s acting Principal Puseletso Runeni says it was a collective effort for the school to obtain such appealing results. “We are very grateful and we would like to thank God for the time and grace He has granted us. All glory should be given to Him,” says Runeni. She emphasises that it was a combined effort from educators, cleaners, administrators, and the learners themselves that made the school shine.

Naledi Clinix receives New Year baby Mduduzi Mathebula
SEBOKENG.- In the early hours of the morning in the new year Nkululeko Bokang was born. Winnie Serutla a 21-year-old student from Net-Care was admitted to Naledi-Nkanyezi Clinix on the last day of the year where she gave birth to a beautiful handsome boy, Nkululeko. She says it was a quiete an experience to give birth to the child that was born just two hours into 2015, and she would like to thank God for the chance granted to be a mother. “I will cherish this day till the end. I underwent severe pain and that was worth it. “I don’t regret having this baby at this time of the year. “He is a blessing and the entire process is also a blessing indeed. All praise to be given to the Almighty God,” says Serutla. She explains further as the year 2014 ended she was in pain. “I could not even say a word until 02:20 when my son was born,” says Serutla.

EVATON.- In the early hours of the morning Puseletso Lechela and family marched to Sasolburg bushes of Mooi Draai farms to meet her son who was long gone to the mountain (Initiation School) for about a month and three weeks. Bofelo Lechela is the only child of Puseletso. The 16-year-old had to undergo the traditional ritual to learn Bosotho ways of being a man. It was frustrating and stressful for Puseletso over the past month and couple of weeks, thinking about her son who was obligated to practice his culture. “I was praying to God to protect my son over the past month. It was devastating, but he had to undergo this as a young Mosotho man. “I understood every step and he was willing to practice his customs,” says Puseletso to Sedibeng Ster.. As the morning went by the 16-year-old and other 24 young men arrived at his home in Sebokeng amid screams and tears of joy from the family. Bathofela Moloi, a traditional surgeon, says in Free State they still respect the law unlike in some parts of the country where people have been using this tradition to cause havoc and behave as hooligans. “We are bound by the law and the law rules in this area to protect our customs and culture. Respect is a very vital thing in our culture and this they have learned at the school. “We do not teach these boys to swear and disrespect elders, but the values of humanity,”

says Moloi. All boys were handed to their respective families and demonstrations of love and culture were also displayed to the masses that attended the ceremonies.

SEDIBENG.- Hijackers have never been the wisest of people. This was proven when an alleged hijacker was killed in a collision between a motor vehicle and a truck on the corner of the R553 and the R28 between Vanderbijlpark and Sebokeng in December. It is reported that he allegedly hijacked a motor vehicle and injured the driver and then fled the scene with the stolen car. While fleeing he collided with a truck and sustained fatal injuries. The victim of the alleged hijacking sustained stab wounds and was transported by ER24 paramedics to Sebokeng Hospital for further treatment. Authorities were on scene for further investigation

SEBOKENG.- Hell broke loose on ‘Boxing Day’ (December 26) when a young man by the name of Phaphapha was hacked and stabbed to death in the full view of the public in Zone 7. The incident happened at Zone 7 shopping complex next to Ghetto and it is believed that he was killed by the notorious ‘Wrong Turn’ gang. With the community scattered around there were mixed feelings as some said that the victim “deserved to die as he was also a nuisance to the community.” The reason for the killing is not known but is suspected to be gang related. Police were deployed to the scene and were chased away by the angry community which demanded justice saying that they were living in fear of the vicious ‘Wrong turn’ gang while the Police were doing nothing. The gang is said to be terrorising the communities of Zone 7 and Eatonside. “He was one of them. He deserved it. I don’t feel sorry for him. “He killed S’fiso. You live by the sword and you will die by the sword,” said a bystan-

Touch, let’s go! The dawn of the New Year (2015) is upon us and for many it brings with it blessings while for others it brings sorrow and despair. (Ke December Boss! E fedile jwale akere?) With the New Year comes many challenges but if you believe you will overcome those. I have never been one to make New Year’s promises, but if you do, I hope you keep to them. Matric results have been a thorny issue this week with the pass rate
having gone down and what with the scandal of cheats. This is said to be because of the new Curriculum and Assessment Policy Statements (Caps) which started recently, I do not think so. I assume it is because of pure laziness and hard heads on the part of some learners. To those pupils that have passed I say Good Luck with your future plans because you have worked hard and you deserve it and to those that have failed I say you also deserve to fail because you wasted time while
your choice. It may seem hard right now, but there is bad news, and there is good news. The bad news is that no one is going to do it for you. The good news, however, is you will get from this life what you create for yourself! Let me take this space to congratulate the Sedibeng East District for sustaining a good 90,7%. I applaud your good work. Touch lets go, Woza Twenty for Believe (2015). Stay blessed. Lerato...
it was on your side. Therefore there is nothing else to be done, but for you to repeat the grade, What do you think? I rejoiced when one of my colleagues posted this on one of the social networks this week, he says, “Failure is SIMPLY the opportunity to begin AGAIN....this time more INTELLIGENTLY, I failed AGAIN and AGAIN that is why I made it in LIFE!” Many mistakes have happened in the past but I believe that the past should not be a prison and the future should be a choice,
Serero still a household name in SA football!
I’m one individual who doesn’t believe in New Year Resolutions….rather in action. It is that time of the year when people will make New Year Resolutions but fail to stick to them. Ladies and gentlemen from football and the sports fraternity at large – welcome to the New Year. As Bafana Bafana prepare for the forthcoming African Cup Of Nations (AFCON ) – much has been said and

written about the exclusion of Thulani Serero in the national team. Personal issues aside – this is the very same player whom at one stage the local media predicted as the future of South African Football. How quickly things have changed! Why this has to happen with the most talented players in this country, I wonder? What have they done to deserve this kind of treatment? The question TOUCHLINE asks is: Is Thuleni Serero a victim of circumstances like other players before him? First it was May Mahlangu and now Serero, what is going on with South African football? Why are we so harsh when it comes to talented players in this country?

wrong at their respective clubs. It is up to Safa to investigate what is happening with our European based players – why some of them don’t honour Bafana Bafana’s call ups. Clearly there is something wrong with the clubs they play for! TOUCHLINE make’s a special plea to Safa to go and find out why European based players fake injuries whenever they are called to do duty for Bafana Bafna. The problem is bigger than meets the eye. Somebody must be brave enough to take the “bull” by its horn, once and for all. Shooting From The Hip to TOUCHLINE!
Working with development players I have learned a lot as far as the players are concerned especially those who are very talented. As a coach you must have a way to deal with them and not give them special treatment. Those who understand the culture of South African football will tell you that the most talented players are problematic. The truth is that Thulani Serero is not an exception. The fact remains – he is one of the exciting young stars to have come out of this country, and now plies his trade abroad at Ajax Amsterdam in the Netherlands. The same happened with Benni McCarthy while he was still playing abroad and clearly we must be aware that there is something

Sedibeng football future hangs in balance
Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG._ The future of Sedibeng football hangs in the balance with uncertainity within Safa Sedibeng Emfuleni Local Football Association. Apart from the SAB League there seems nothing happening in this region as far as the administration is concerned. There is a power struggle among the local football administrators and club owners about who is to succeed Safa Sedibeng President Xolani Mtumtum and who is to be elected the chairman of the Emfuleni Local Football Association. Last year it was reported that Martin Mpholo was among the candidates for the chairmanship in the Emfuleni Local Football Association, however, Sedibeng Ster Sport has learnt that he is no longer a favourite of some of the club’s owners. Sedibeng Ster Sport has also learned that there are three camps in this region which makes things even more difficult to decide on leadership. According to a reliable source within the association the problem is that it seems as if there is disagreement when it comes to leadership to replace Mtumtum. The problem apparently started when the Safa Sedibeng Regional Secretary Star Hlongwane was suspended late last year by the executive

committee. “There is lot happening which is not good for our football at the moment. “For example, we can’t agree on candidates because of our personal differences. This is a problem as this has been going on for too long now with certain individuals failing to cooperate for the sake of football. As things stand now I don’t know who they are targeting for both Safa Sedibeng President and ELFA chairmanship,” says the source. Meanwhile, Emfuleni Promotion League is set to kick off at the first week of February for the new season.
Sedibeng Black Golfers Association tournament a success Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG.- Despite the conditions of the Evaton Golf Course Club – the Sedibeng Black Golfers Association held a successful tournament during the Festive Season. The long grass robbed the spectators of witnessing an exciting event from the local golfers young and old. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Martin Mpholo, who is also part of the Sedibeng Black Golfers Association, says even though they were disappointed with the condition of the course – he was happy with
the overall performance of the participants on the day. However, Mpholo says he doesn’t blame anyone for the state of the Golf Course as it was during the festive season and he is of the opinion that the municipal workers were on holidays. “We were aware that at this time of the year – everyone was on holidays hence the grass was not cut. But we enjoyed each an every moment of action with legends and senior golfers battling throughout the day,” says Mpholo.
Ball jugglers make Sedibeng proud in India
Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG.- Local free style boys, otherwise, known as “Ball Jugglers” were invited to India to perform in the closing ceremony of the Indian Super League last December. This was a great experience for local boys performing on the big stage. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport group captain Josias “Bingo” Nnete says it was a great honour for them to be invited by the India Football Association to perform in the India Super League closing ceremony. He says this is a moment they would always cherish. According to Nnete there were 14 of them from South Africa and they impressed Indian
soccer spectators with their juggling skills. Nnete is a former professional soccer player. He played for Moroka Swallows. However, he was forced by unforseen circumstances to quit football at an early age and started “Ball Juggling”. “We feel honoured to be invited abroad to showcase our talent or skill and the India soccer fans were in love with us. They really appreciated our talent and we made our country proud especially Sedibeng region. We challenge youngsters out there that football is not only about eleven players playing against each other but they can also
make a career out of ball juggling. At one stage I thought my football career was over until somebody introduced me to ball juggling,” says Nnete. He also challenges the club and team owners and coaches to encourage the players to learn how to juggle the ball. Nnete believes not all those players will turn professionals and he encourages them to start juggling the ball at a young age. Pooe festive season tournament grows
Zacharia Nale
EVATON.- Pooe Festive Season Tournament broke the record when an estimate 54 senior teams participated in this annual festive season tournament. Despite the fact that the tournament was marred by controversy the number of the teams showed how popular the Pooe Festive Season Tournament is. It is one of the biggest tournaments to be staged during the festive season in this country However, the only problem is the organisation and administration which needs to be improved. The tournament attracted teams as far as from Soweto, the Free State and other neighbouring areas. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, tournament organiser Kgogi Pooe says the tournament has become a national event taking into consideration the number of teams that participated in last year’s tournament. Pooe says he is aware of the challenges the junior teams experienced during the tournament and he promises to address them.
He says the tournament is part of development and he will do everything to improve the conditions of the fields and administration to mention but the two. “The tournament is getting bigger and bigger every year and the number of the teams also increases. “We invite all the people, especially football administrators in this region, to come on board to make this tournament a big success. I was also happy to see some of the much organised academies participating in this year’s tournament,” says Pooe. Juventus FC were crowned the tournament champions in the senior category after beating Dortmund FC 2-0 in the finals, while SUBS FC were crowned the champions in the u/19 category at the expense of Verona FC. Juventus went to the bank smiling all the way with a R100 000 first prize, while Dortmund FC received R50 000. Meanwhile, Ikageng Development FC were the champions in the u/17 divisions, while Tokyo FC were crowned the u/13 champions.
