Hawks close in on Vaal ‘ghost vending’ syndicate

VEREENIGING. - Suspicious lists containing electricity meter numbers were discovered at the house of a Vereeniging woman during a raid by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, the Hawks, on the weekend. The woman is suspected of being involved in the illegal sale of prepaid electricity vouchers, known as “ghost vending”. According to the Hawks, the amount of cash found in the house and the lists of electricity meters indicate that the suspect is high up in a ghost vending syndicate that has its operations in many parts of the country. Investigators are confident that they are close to catching those who are running this ghost vending syndicate. Close to R100 000 in cash, 18 cellphones and two laptop computers were seized during the raid. Investigators believe the money was generated from the illegal sale of prepaid electricity vouchers, while the cell phones and laptops are thought to have been used by the suspect to commit the crime. Investigators will use this evidence to link the suspect to the alleged crime. The homeowner and an accomplice were taken into custody and appeared in the Van-

derbijlpark Magistrates Court on January 19 on charges of fraud. The suspects were released after they posted bail of R50 000 each. The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) is hopeful the arrest will lead to the apprehension of more people involved in ghost vending and the recovery of stolen prepaid electricity credit dispensing machines belonging to the national power utility, Eskom. Commenting on the arrest, Senior Manager for Energy Trading and Sales Forecasting at Eskom - Maboe Maphaka - said the arrest came at a critical time that saw the country grappling with the challenge of meeting the high demand for electricity: “We have intensified our efforts to eradicate electricity theft through the implementation of the Customer Compliance Approach, which is being implemented by Operation Khanyisa, a national campaign that works with law enforcement agencies in the fight against electricity theft. “The Customer Compliance Approach ensures an integrated focus on revenue and energy loss management and prevention, and combines meter auditing, detection, investigation and customer education - and the re-

sults are showing.” Earlier this month, a convicted electricity thief was sentenced to seven years in prison for offering electricity theft services to customers in the agriculture sector.

Anyone who has information that can help in this case, or in any other cases relating to electricity theft, can send tip-offs via SMS to Crime Line on 32211 (R1/SMS). The service is anonymous.

Business robbery rife in the area VanderbijlLazarus Dithagiso

MEYERTON. - Business burglary is spreading at an alarming rate. One suspect was taken for questioning by Police in Sicelo after the owner of Modage cell and Computer shop experienced a business burglary on January 9. The other suspects are still at large, said Constable Maria Mazibuko. This followed the owner waking up in the next morning to open his shop to find a top window broken. Apparently a hacksaw was used to cut the steel bar. The owner was left with damages of about R50 000, including the theft Muhammed Aleem experienced a sec ond breakin by intruders at his shop. of cell phones, amplifiers and hoovers. According to Mohammed Aleem, it’s the second time his business has been burgled in six months. The first time Police sent fingersprints for forensic updates. Police took finger prints this time, too. This time the suspects had stolen cell phones of clients brought for repairs. Shop owners say no Police are patrolling the area. Constable Mazibuko said Police are following any and all leads toward the arrest of suspects. The case is still under investigation, she said. Members of the community with any information are requested to come forward. If communities see suspect persons roaming the area, please contact the Meyerton Police Station on (016) 326 0126. Investigating officer Sergeant Jimmy Kekana can be contacted on 076 986 3855.

13 local suspects face serious charges Lazarus Dithagiso

VANDERBIJLPARK. - The Police Task Team Unit arrested nine armed hijacking and robbery suspects. The other four were arrested later after further Police investigation. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn said one suspect was armed with a 9mm pistol. They hijacked a truck transporting cigarettes to the value of R300 000. Police also found other several suspected stolen goods as they searched the area on January 15 at around 08:30. Steyn said the suspects were driving a Honda vehicle when they stopped beside the truck at a robot crossing on the Golden Highway near Vanderbijlpark. They allegedly forced the driver and his assistant out of their motor vehicle and into theirs. The victims were dropped off in Bequerel Street, Vanderbijlpark. Community members said they helped themselves to scattered cigarettes after they were dropped off by a white Vito vehicle in Bophelong. Other suspects were heard saying they were connected with high-ranking Police generals in Gauteng. A truck with cigarettes, two computers, three laptops and 12 cell phones was retrieved. It has been alleged that there was an R5 rifle. The suspects, aged 23 to 41, hail from around Sharpeville, Sebokeng, Vanderbijl-

park and Bophelong. They face charges for possession of illegal firearms, ammunition, stolen goods and hijacking. Police said more arrests loom. They appeared before Magistrate Jimmy Mmatli

at the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court on Monday (January 19). A taxi driver has been given bail of R2000. The matter has been postponed for further investigation and for bail today (January 22).

park drug dealers feel the heat

SEDIBENG. - The Vaal Rand K9 Unit joined forces with the Vaal Rand Flying Squad to crack down on drug dealers in Vanderbijlpark over the past weekend. Drugs to the street value of R12 250-00 were confiscated and four suspects arrested for being in possession of drugs. Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn says that the joint operation was an initiative from the Vaal Rand K9 Unit after information was received regarding the activities of drug dealers in the CW2 and SE7 residential areas of Vanderbijlpark. Steyn says, “The information led to the arrest of four suspects (in their thirties) and the seizure of dagga, CAT and ‘nyaope’ to the mentioned value. Operations of this nature are intent on addressing drug-dealing and drug abuse on a continuous basis.” The suspects were detained at the Vanderbijlpark SAPS and they will appear in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court soon.

“We want councillor out” - Evaton protesters

Mduduzi Mathebula

EVATON. - Ward 43 residents led by community leaders recently went on the rampage. They looted from hawkers on the Evaton main roads including the Golden Highway and Moshoeshoe Road. The roads were closed with burning tyres and huge stones to prevent motorists and working residents from using them. The protest started in the early hours of the morning on Friday in reaction to residents’ complaints that their ward councillor was useless and did not hear their grievances. Their chief demand was the immediate resignation of Councillor Jabu Zondi: “We have held public meetings with Zondi and we have highlighted our grievances. We need a youth development centre; we need youth to be employed in any development allocated to the area,” says the complaints leadership Nhlanhla Mashishiwani and Thabile Nkutha. The protest was so seve-

re even street vendors did not pitch up to sell. The two main roads were closed. Another complaint of protesters is that street humps are needed on Avondale Road. They claim many children have died there,’ says Nkutha, “We need street humps in that road. Our children will perish beneath the wheels of speeding cars. We’ve been on about the the street humps for years and nothing has been done. We have to take a stand and voice our demands.” While the Golden Highway was ‘on fire’ motorists were given an alternative return route. Protesters were vicious and angry, even at passersby trying to cross the street. Nkutha further says, “If they don’t hear us we are going to close all these stalls. We need change and we need to let Zondi know he should step down.” Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) representatives including speaker Msebenzi Gqelosha were later deployed to the protest scene to calm the situation.

Ntabankulu on fire Nine-year-old raped by family friend

SEBOKENG .- Two organisations were astonished and disappointed to find their offices broken into and set on fire just days into the new year. While Thatho Motsapi, a manager of Tshwaranang Security Service, found her office completely burned down. “I suspected this was witchcraft. Someone is after my head and I won’t give in or give up. I’ m going to fight until the person comes and asks for forgiveness,” says Motsapi. She uses a classroom as her office at the former Ntabankulu Primary School in Zone 12. Everything was up in smoke from computers to files. Motsapi has opened a case of damage to property. Sophia Tlapi of All Human Empower-

ment Development Centre was in the same dilemma as her office was also broken into and a different lock was found on the door. She was apparently asked to move out because the EPWP was going to use the room as a store. Tlapi says she used the room to empower disabled people. “We do hand-work to develop our staff. Now we are asked to move our staff since the Expanded Public Works Programmes (EPWP) will use our rooms as a store. We hope the government takes a stand on this matter. We cannot run our organisations like this,” says Tlapi, who also believes there is a motive behind the breaking and burning. Two separate cases have been opened and are being investigated by Police.

SHARPEVILLE. - A nine-year-old was declared raped after she went missing recently. She was apparently abducted by a family friend in Sharpeville. The missing child was found a day after the abduction. She was later questioned, examined and declared raped. It is alleged that the suspect raped the nineyear-old for the whole day before she was found. Sedibeng Ster managed to speak to the distraught mother. The mother (30) says she reported the child missing to the local police station and a search was conducted but the child was not found. The suspect is known to the family. “He was standing outside the gate and asked for my brother while my little angel and her cousins were playing. He asked for a bottle of beer and asked to be accompanied by the children. A few minutes later the other children came back crying and said the suspect took the nine-year-old into the bush,” says the mother. The search for the child went on for the entire night and the child was found the following day next to Dlomo Dam. Adds the victim’s mother: “I don’t understand why he had to do that to my child. What have we ever done to him? It hurts daily when I think about what my little

VANDERBIJLPARK. - A Nissan Sentra vehicle that suspected of having been used to commit crimes ended up in the hands of the police. Police were patrolling when they spotted a suspect vehicle on the Golden Highway on January 15 at about 17:45. They requested the driver and his three passengers to pull off the road. While searching behind the driver’s seat a 9mm pistol was found.

The driver was found in possession of a 38. Special revolver, said Warrant Officer Kinnie Steyn. The suspects are charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. Police said the suspects had been linked to several business robberies using the same transport. The suspects appeared in the Vanderbijlpark Magistrates Court. The matter has been postponed for further investigation and for bail application.

He was apprehended by the community who alerted the police. The suspect has made his first appearance and the family is eager for justice to put him in prison for life.

Another corruption scandal hits ELM

SEDIBENG STER

21 January - 27 January 2015

Families in eviction feud

Zacharia Nale

VANDERBIJLPARK.- Yet another corruption scandal has hit the Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM). This time the department in the news is that of Arts and Culture, and two officials whose names are known to Sedibeng Ster are implicated. Sedibeng Ster is reliably informed that the pair would allegedly make agreements with some local artists to give them ‘gigs’ provided that the officials get a certain ‘cut’. Apparently this practice has been being going on for a while now with some of the officials within the Department claiming the money for themselves at times. According to a source the matter has been referred to the Human Resources Department and investigations are underway. “The atrists are ‘gatvol’ as they are the ones suffering from the whole thing - hence they made the municipality aware of these shenanigans,” the source reveals, adding that there is evidence in the form of videos, pictures and recordings of the deals taking place, and when they went to withdraw the money from the banks. “This is something that has been going on for some time now. For example, these officials will make false claims that the artists charge them R5000 and then they will take R2000 from the money. I feel sorry for poor artists because they need the money more than anything; hence they end up being the chief victims of this scam. I don’t blame them because some of these artists have families to feed; hence they ended up in this situation,” says the source, who is close to the situation. At the time of going to print Sedibeng Ster was still awaiting response on the matter from ELM spokesperson Stanley Gaba.

Community members help the Ndebele fa mily rebuild their shack on Friday afternoon.

Lerato Serero

DEBONAIR PARK.- A Debonair Park family found their shack broken down and their belongings strewn across the road on Friday afternoon. According to Annah Ndebele she was called by neighbours about a person in her yard who was throwing her belongings outside. Ndebele says that she quickly rushed home and indeed found a person who claimed that the stand belonged to them and that he was there to evict Ndebele and her family as he was the rightful owner. Police were called to the scene but were apparently of no help. Ndebele has apparently been occupying the stand without any problem since 2010. With the help of the community who were right behind the family Ndebele salvaged the little that she could and rebuilt her shack. Sedibeng Ster could not reach the other party. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) Vice-Chairperson in the area Saddam Gosenyang - says, “We will not

allow these evictions to continue as this is not fair. We do not want to see this happening in our community and swear that those who bring trouble will face our wrath.” Debonair Park has recently been in the news with peo-

ple illegally occupying stands that they claim to have bought from unknown organisations and after occupying them, these occupants apparently illegally install water and electricity into the yards.

Food more important than pothole specs Moleboheng Chaha

VEREENIGING. - Andrew Mokale, Teboho Radebe and Thapelo Tau would rather come to town and create their own jobs than be stranded by poverty and unemployment. The three from Sebokeng were recently seen fixing potholes in Three Rivers just to make enough money to go home and feed their respective families. Mokale says, “There is a very high rate of unemployment in the townships. It is even worse for us because we are not educated. This is our own initiative. We buy material with the little money that we have, fix the potholes in the different streets and ask money from motorists as they pass.” Tau states that although they regard what they are doing as something positive, they do not receive the same appreciation from motorists and residents. “While some of the people appreciate what

we are doing, others chase us away because they say we will cause accidents and are a danger to motorists,” adds Tau. Emfuleni Local Municipal (ELM) spokesperson Klaas Mofomme says, “Although we appreciate and acknowledge what this group of young men is doing, It must be clearly stated the law does not allow it.” Mofomme states that there are specifications that have to be followed when filling potholes. Mofomme states that the municipality accepts that because of heavy rains there are many streets with potholes but it is something they are busy working on. “This poses a danger to both motorists and these boys as they do not know the specific safety measures that need to be taken. Roads can only be fixed by the municipality or companies with credentials that show they are contracted by the municiplity.” Mofomme concludes.

Are we a lost nation?

A nation that does not take care of its young is a lost nation! South Africa has recently been rife with stories about children - in particular young girls - going missing only to be found raped and killed, in most cases by people known to them. This needs to be condemned in the strongest of terms and I am doing so. In Page 3 of this edition there is a story such as this.

A society can only be judged by its ability to take care of its most vulnerable - in this case, children. As things stand, ours is failing dismally, this is a serious indictment on all of us and I want to say: “Enough is enough.” Such incidents must not make us numb but we need to continue raising awareness so that communities can expose perpetrators and eliminate these serious crimes. These acts can only be committed by very sick people. The spate of rape incidents where the perpetrator is known to the victim points to moral decay that needs urgent intervention. These actions are in violation of international and national laws as they undermine the

full realisation of the Rights of the Child with serious implications for the child’s protection, survival and development. When the scourge of sexual offences against women reaches infants, toddlers and young girls, every parent like me should be worried that the scourge has reached unacceptable levels and proportions. Unfortunately, unconfirmed reports state that only 39% of rapes and sexual assaults are ever reported to Police. Partly due to the difficulty of investigating and prosecuting these crimes, only 16% of reports result in a perpetrator serving time in prison. Factoring in unreported rapes, only 6% of rapists end up in prison. The rest are free to

repeat their crimes. One way to increase convictions is for more Police and prosecutors to receive specialised training in sex crimes. Media attention and community pressure can help push local authorities into pursuing this training if they have not already done so. So what can you do as an honest citizen? Continue to educate yourself. Help raise awareness. If not for yourself, for the young girl that needs a better environment. She does not need to be raped, she does not need to be killed. She needs to be nurtured, given love and raised in a caring place. What has the world come to? Are we a lost nation? Lerato....

Stop harassing residents: SANCO Lerato Serero

SEDIBENG.- The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) in Sedibeng has called for a halt to what it terms serious harassment of residents in the region from MBD Credit Solutions, a company appointed by Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) through the sale of the municipality’s debt book to collect the ‘so-called’ unpaid municipal debt from communities. In a meeting held on Sunday SANCO considered a range of matters affecting the communities of Sedibeng. A statement issued by the organisation says,” In our pursuit of creating a better Sedibeng for all, we are confronted by a variety of challenges that require our urgent attention. Countless numbers of communities in the Emfuleni area are experiencing serious harassment from MBD Credit Solutions a company appointed by Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) through the sale of

the municipality’s debt book to collect the socalled unpaid municipal debt from communities. SANCO Sedibeng has been left with no choice but to call on all communities of Emfuleni to refuse to enter into any settlement negotiations or to pay any monies to MBD solutions until a sustainable solution is found between SANCO and MBD/ELM.” It further adds that the recognition of residents who qualify to be classified as indigent persons and the criterion used was and remains at the core of the challenge and the cause of confusion within communities. SANCO says that these problems are further compounded by high settlement figures demanded by MBD which include old interests and penalties far beyond the levels of affordability of residents. “SANCO is committed to find a solution with our municipality and to enter into serious discussion to improve the levels of service deli-

very which will lead to better revenue collection for services rendered. It is our resolve to contribute to a better quality of life to our communities through partnering with the municipality on programs aimed at achieving these noble objectives. We are confronting this billing and collection challenge with an optimistic view to find a mutually beneficial solution. We call on all communities of Emfuleni to submit the legal letters received from MBD to SANCO branches and direct all calls from the company to the branch secretaries and the regional leadership of SANCO Sedibeng,” the organisation says, further calling on MBD to stop harassing residents and enter into negotiations with it (SANCO) on these matters extending the same call to ELM to suspend the MDB contract to allow for a conducive atmosphere of negotiations that will bring a sustainable solution to the communities.

Docky Matlala ward recognises its volunteers

Mduduzi Mathebula

EVATON. - The ANC’s Docky Matlala branch in Ward 19 of Evaton North conducted a surprise award ceremony for all the outstanding volunteers of the branch who recently went with them through thick and thin. The thrilling surprise was organised by branch chairperson Ndande Mokoena and his team, Mokoena said, “We don’t have silver and gold but we have sterlingh hearts. This is the way to show our appreciation for the volunteers by awarding them with a token of Approval Certificates of Dedication.” The volunteers made a door-to-door campaign throughout the election year, urging the community to vote for their trusted party. It is estimated that 60 volunteers went door-todoor, street by street, encouraging the community to vote. “ We are living in a democratic world that needs people to give themselves voices by voting. “It would be an injustice if we didn’t practice our democratic right to vote,” added Mokoena. Among volunteers was 81-year-old Maria Molutsi who was also among members who were acknowledged for their age, with the youngest volunteer being 14-year-old Dumezwani Sekhone. Food was served and certificates presented to all the volunteers to recognise them for the great work they had done.

Young sensational Gospel DJ ‘TT’ artist releases fifth CD keeps his

Lazarus Dithagiso

Sensational Gospel artist Letsele is back by popular demand. This is his fifth CD titled, ‘’Ntate ke a leboha,’’ which includs eleven songs. His executive producer, well known William ’Mr Everything’ Mthethwa, recorded at the `@cut n edit’ studio. Letselesaid he took one thing at a time. His fourth album called: ‘’Moya wa ka o re e’’ was released two years ago after “Ke roma mang’’. He did not want to rush into releasing the CDs without proper follow-up. “I am not after money as such but I have this love of music. It is very good as an artist to keep the fans happy with music that will inspire, motivate and encourage them,’’ he said. He adds that all his released CDs have done well in the market.

Asked about the hit titled CDs he said: “although to me they are all the best, I would choose “Jeso wa Makatsa’’, “’Unabantu bakho Thixo,’’ “Sibabalele Jehova’’ to mentioned the top three. My CDs are all praising songs. “’God is good all the time. We have to thank Him daily for His mercy. Praising God is always on the tip of my tongue,” he said. There’s nothing worth more in our lives than the word of God said this born-again Christian, a member of the Ebenezer Uniting Presbyterian Church in Bophelong. Letsele will never forget his four backing vocalists for the tremendous melodic voices they added to the CD. Currently the CD is making waves on local radio stations from as far as Theta FM, Karabo FM, Sedibeng FM, Hope FM, VUT FM, Lekoa Vaal FMand Vaal Community Radio.

16-year dream realised by Khuele Mduduzi Mathebula

VEREENIGING. - The Night of the Zone 7 Massacre was on full display on Friday night at the Vereeniging Civic Theatre. “The preview of the Nangalembe Massacre has been completed though it’s not the final vision of the documentary,” says the producer of the documentary Charles Khuele.

Mandla Nangalembe speaks during the preview of the ‘Night of the Masscre’.

The house was in full swing as the audience was entertained. All the affected families and people managed to attend the preview. The documentary shows the night of the massacre and what impact it had on the community of Zone 7 and the Vaal as the whole.

Khuele says the production was16 years of hardship: “The initial plan was to create a movie about the massacre but due to financial challenges we had to transform it into a documentary. It was worth doing,” he said.

VANDERBIJLPARK.- The future looks dazzling for this young Sedibeng Fm presenter. Late last year Thapelo ‘TT’ Tahleho was nominated at the SATMA awards in the categories of Best Cultural Talk Show and Best Community Radio DJ and he promised to bring something back from the awards that were held in Allice, Eastern Cape. And this he has done, in the categories that he was nominated Tahleho received certificates of recognition for his hard work. He presents a breakfast show every day of the week and a traditional programme called ‘Reparola Thota’ on Sedibeng Fm every Saturday. The station has been on air for approximately six months. The young and energetic presenter says that this year he will make sure that serious preparations are made so that he can bring trophies home. “These certificates of recognition are for our listeners who have shown that together we are going places. I am also aiming at taking all the awards that are on offer for community radio stations this year”, says the friendly Tahleho commonly known as Dj ‘TT.

War of words erupt Zacharia Nale

BOPHELONG. - Tempers flew at a meeting of the Emfuleni Local Football Association (ELFA) at the Bophelong Stadium on Sunday morning. What was supposed to be Promotion League meeting ended up in an ugly war of words between the clubs and ELFA representatives. Some teams wanted the Promotion League to start with immediate effect while others believe there is no way the league can start before the ELFA Annual General Meeting (AGM) scheduled for February 15 in the Community Hall in Zone 14, Sebokeng. Tempers flew, with some teams’ representatives feeling strongly that the league could not start until their concerns were addressed at the forthcoming AGM. Philip Ndlovu and Matome Kganakge were the only two ELFA interim committee members who were “brave

enough” to face the angry club representatives. Other committee members were nowhere to be found. The Bophelong Sports Council played mediator during this sizzling meeting and, to their credit, they did a good job of controlling the situation, which came close to getting out of hand. There was also an ugly confrontation between the interim chairman Ndlovu and some club representatives who insisted that the Promotion League wouldn’t start until the AGM had taken place. However, Ndlovu says the kick-off of the league was determined by the number of the teams eager to play. Among the notable club representatives who feel strongly that there must be a change of leadership in the ELFA are Mfanafuthi Masondo, Mondli Nkosi and Junior Gusha. Evaton Golf Course in need of financial muscle

Zacharia Nale

EVATON.- Evaton Golf Course Local Organising Committee is committed to take the sport to another level. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster by the organisation marketing manager Martin Mpholo. According to Mpholo they have already drafted the 2015 Year Programme where local golfers will take part in a monthly competition or tournament. Mpholo says they call all golfers in this region and businessmen and women to come on board to assist as far as finance is concern. Apart from assisting Mpholo believes that this will serve as a platform to market their businesses. “So many community members are not aware of Evaton Golf Course despite the fact that is in their backyard. It is our duty as the committee to market this it to be a place where the community can come and enjoy themselves. The sport is one of the biggest sporting codes in the country and one of the richest codes to date,” says Mpholo. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Ndlovu says the right channels must be followed. He said he was not officially invited to the AGM. “This meeting was not about the AGM but the kick-off of the Promotion League. Then this unfortunate situation occurred during the meeting. “I’m very disappointed with the behavior of some of the clubs’ officials. There is no longer respect for football by some clubs officials and I’m afraid our football is going to the dogs. “We allow our personal egos get the better of ourselves instead of focusing on football. TOUCHLINE is a great follower of one of the experienced development coaches in this country Ted Dumitru – who has empowered many development coaches through social media. This is the very same coach who led big teams like Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns to glory with a unique style of play. Coach Ted is passionate about the development of football in this country and has since his days at the Safa School of Excellence been introducing his Coaching Philosophy – max-

imal training. The result is that some of the top PSL coaches and development coaches have since adopted his Coaching Philosophy. Recently Ted through the South African Football Coaches Association (Safa) made a plea to the South African football mother body to introduce the same Playing Philosophy for our national teams. Other countries - including European countries - are a step ahead when it comes to a Playing Philosophy. TOUCHLINE agrees with Coach Ted 100% because football has changed drastically over time; hence they call it MODERN FOOTBALL. When Bafana Bafana started with their AFCON campaign, Playing Philosophy became one of the household names on the continent and in the country.

Gone are the days when we just played for the FUN of it without a clear Playing Philosophy. It is high time Safa takes football to the next level. We have been basking in the success of the Class of 1996 for too long now. There must be a change and the change must be now. With Shakes Mashaba at the helm of Bafana Bafana coaching, there is hope that this country will be a force to be reckoned with in world of football. Gone are those days when we simply used to add numbers to highprofile competitions such as AFCON and the World Cup. In the 1994 World Cup, Nigeria shocked the world when they made their presence felt in this world showpiece with Roger Miller breaking the England fans’ hearts. They made

the continent of Africa proud and showed the world that in football anything is possible. With so much talent in this country – South Africa is capable of making its presence felt in any competition as long as we believe in own ability and strength. The call for Coach Ted’s Playing Philosophy is something that should be Safa’s top priority, to play a unique brand of football. Look at countries such as Spain and Brazil to mention but two. These two powerhouses have done this and the world has fallen in love with the kind of football they play. It is high time we as South Africans have our own playing identity that distinguishes us from other football nations. ON THE TOUCHLINE….
