It is alleged that the family was sleep ing when the fire started. They found themselves unable to even grab a spoon. Tenant stabs exgirlfriend to death Mduduzi Mathebula
SHARPEVILLE. - Maserame Maria Mareka was laid to rest on Saturday by an angry and devastated community after the 31-year-old mother of two was allegedly stabbed by an ex-boyfriend who was also a tenant at Mareka’s family home in Ditentsheng, Sharpeville. The two had dated for a few months when their relationship went sour. The deceased was stabbed several times in the head by the suspect, who
was alleged to be jealous when Mareka started to date other men. The suspect was arrested instantly following the stabbing and the victim died in Sebokeng Hospital’s Intensive Care Unit (ICU) about 12 hours after the incident. The suspect is said to have chased the new boyfriend of the deceased to Sharpeville Police Station after stabbing her. As she sprawled where she had been stabbed, her new boyfriend was chased to the police station by her attacker, where he intended to lod-
ge a charge. The ex-boyfriend was then arrested for public violence, attempted murder, and later charged with murder. It is alleged the suspect entered the police charge office holding a knife and Police wasted no time arresting him. After the funeral, the family said, “We are still very broken up about the situation. We don’t understand how he came to a point of killing her. “I hope he suffers in jail ,” says the grandmother of the deceased.

ETIENNE ROUSSEAU THEATRE OPENS AFTER RENOVATIONS On Saturday, 24 January 2015, a renovated Etienne Rousseau Theatre opened its doors with a spectacular performance by the TOEAC accordion duo from the Netherlands who cut a ribbon on stage to mark the opening. Their performance of classical music, lighter pieces and even “Sarie Marais” was most entertaining and well received by the audience. Monday evening had a jazz twist when Jazz Concert SA brought international jazz with ‘The Swing Dealers’ from Europe. Dirk van der Linden from Belgium, an outstanding exponent of the Hammond Organ and jazz guitar along with the Flemish double bass player and jazz singer of note, Jean van Lint were joined by the brilliant jazz improviser Justin Holcroft from the U.K. who played both tenor and soprano saxophones plus the South African jazz drummer, Anthony Yoko. They played extracts from the American Song Book as well as own compositions and a creative improvisation of U2’s “I still haven’t found what I’m looking for”. Other items on the programme are a oboe and piano recital by Céline Moinet and Florian Uhlig playing Schumann’s Romances for oboe and piano Op.94 and Carnaval for solo piano Op.9, as well as the world premiere of Peter Klatzow’s Masks and Richard Dubugnon: Cinq Masques for solo oboe Op.10. Dressed in original Venetian costumes of the 18th-19th centuries, Carnevale di Vinezia paid tribute to Venice, to the Venetian composers, Vivaldi and Albinoni, to the music inspired by this city and its long and popular tradition of carnival.

days to destroy the old rank and take every bit of steel there. Sedibeng Ster was deployed to the scene during the action of the scrap vultures, who did not even mind the presence of a journalist. They just went on with their work and even smiled for the camera.
When asked how much would they make per day they claim that they would make about a thousand if they worked well, depending on how fast they were. The rank was infested by the scrap vultures and alleged ‘nyaope boys’, some of whom worked without tools while others used hammers and grinders, which we-

VEREENIGING. - A driver died tragically when he lost control of his truck. It plunged into the Taaibos Spruit on the R59. He was heading to Sasolburg from Vereeniging last Tuesday. The Viljoensdrift Police have released the deceaseds’ name as Raphael Khoetle (34). He worked for PJ Van Rensburg Trucks in Vanderbijlpark. There was no sign that the driver was trying to control, swerve or press the brake-pedal to avoid driving straight into the river. The truck hit trees that lined the riverbank. All that could be seen from the river afterwards were two red trailers. According to onlookers, there’s a suspicion the driver may have suffered from epilepsy. Police spokesperson Lieutenant Livhuhani Hani could not confirm that the deceased had suffered a heart attack or an epileptic episode.

Disciplinary hearing scheduled for ‘corrupt’ ELM official Zacharia Nale
Emfuleni Local Municipal head of Com munications Stanley Gaba says the mu nicipality notes with serious concern is sues relating to fraud and corruption that are increasingly reported in news papers.
VANDERBIJLPARK.- The Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has constituted a disciplinary process against an Arts and Culture official who is implicated in corruption. The hearing will sit next Wednesday (February 11) in the Trust Bank Boardroom in Vanderbijlpark. This was revealed to Sedibeng Ster by ELM head of Communications Stanley Gaba after this newspaper ran a series of articles regarding the Arts and Culture officials who claimed hefty amounts of money from the ELM as payment for artists. They
did this while allegedly taking a third of the money for themselves. Sedibeng Ster has learned that only one official will appear before the disciplinary committee. In the statement sent to Sedibeng Ster, Gaba says the municipality notes with serious concern issues relating to fraud and corruption that are increasingly reported in the newspapers. “The municipality takes a dim view of these activities, and therefore urges the community and everyone else to report such matters urgently as they arise. We urge all the witnesses to cooperate by giving truthful evidence with the intention to
Administrator commits suicide amidst corruption allegations

Basson (55), was a Senior Financial Administrator. She allegedly committed suicide while on duty last week. The incident took place at the offices of Doves at Rebel Street in Vereeniging. A suicide note in the hands of the police was found on the crime scene. Police do not want to divulge its contents pending further investigation. Unconfirmed rumours from a reliable, well placed source was that the deceased allegedly informed some of her co-workers that she could not handle the pressure at work any longer. This comes after ELM accountants demanded the financial books for audit. Apparently for the past years, no money was being deposited into ELM accounts. Basson was apparently requested by her senior to prove what happened to the money she had been receiving from the undertakers. Immediately when an audit was instituted, all hell broke loose. No one would take the blame for why the money was not deposited into the ELM account. Apparently the deceased could not stand the heat and wanted to blow the whistle on some of her colleagues who warned her that she would be doing this at her own peril. SMALLFARMS. - Bokamoso Skills Economic Development Centre was established in 2005 as a community-based non profit organisation (NGO). The centre was established at the Roman Catholic Complex to cater for skills and economic development projects. It is now a fullyfledged non governmental organisation registered with the NPO Directorate of Social Development. On Friday the centre hosted a graduation ceremony that was fully attended by the community at large to support and see the impact of the centre within the community. According to the centre manager Bheki Maduna, Bokamoso offers vocational training, formal education, social assistance entrepreneurial services and career guidance to young people. Over the past years of grass-roots development experience, Bokamoso has realised that promotion of self-help initiatives of social and economic empowerment of the poorest of the poor is a key requirement for the sustainable development of local communities,” says Maduna. Bokamoso is a respected skills and development centre that harnesses talent to apply unique innovative and competitive technologies, to excel in selected markets in the skills and economic development and related sectors in Southern Africa.

It promotes human values through advocacy and community outreach programmes, basic formal/non formal education and vocational skills training initiatives for Youth, Women and People with Disabilities with a view to building a sustainable community and an improved standard of living. The graduation ceremony was to honor students from the following programmes - flower arranging - English in Communication from Level 1 to 4 - Maths Literacy Level 1 to 4 - Computer Skills - Carpentry and Life Skills. “We had 200 students receiving their respective certificates as per their skills programme. We wanted to celebrate their student efforts with our little resources to facilitate these skills programmes and also to let their parents and our large community know what Bokamoso does to facilitate skills development effectively. “The celebration was also to make people aware of an alternative in relation to higher learning institutions. Development centres are here to bridge the gap between those who are not able to penetrate higher learning institutions for various reasons. We as Bokamoso and our partners (Social Development- Porticus) to mention a few, play an integral role in championing skills development,” says Maduna.

Taking notes from TOUCHLINE...
Notes from the TOUCHLINE have it that coaching is something that is lacking in our football, to say the least. However, TOUCHLINE is not faulting development coaches because I don’t remember when last there has been a COACHING Course here in Sedibeng. TOUCHLINE thinks there is a serious need for coaching courses in this region - as much if not more than the secret meetings held in this region by football administrators. How can one expect youngsters to grow as footballers when they are coached by someone who relies only on his experience. Foundation and development is very crucial in football to lay a solid foundation. The
excuse that we lack experience ,or are still building, every time we fail, is caused by no less than a lack of quality coaching from junior to club level. The failure of the national team has much to do with the development of football in this country in general. It is also embarrassing to see professional players who lack simple football basics but play for our national team ‘nogal’. Recently I stopped to go and watch SAB League teams because those players lack simple football basics - at their age. This is caused by the poor coaching they were exposed to at a young age. It is too late to fix this because some of them are too old. It is not about where you trained but how you trained. As one of the best coaches in the world would say: “You play at the rhythm you train at. If you train badly, you play badly. If you work like a beast in training, you play the same
way.” This can only be Pep Guardiola, the coach I admire so much since his day at Spanish giants Barcelona. In fact it doesn’t matter where you train but if your training is not up to standard, your players won’t grow. This is the biggest challenge in football – “poor training”! The biggest challenge in football is that everyone wants to own a team even if he or she can’t afford the necessary football materials for the betterment of players. It doesn’t necessary mean that every development coach must own a soccer team. Why can’t they join forces with other coaches who have since progressed rather than having too many development teams in one small area? Why can’t we bring those resources together and work as a unit? But TOUCHLINE is aware that some might say: ‘I won’t work with so-and-so because our PHILOSOPHY is not the same’. Point taken, but are all development coaches
understanding, or do they know what is meant by PHILOSOPHY? TOUCHLINE doubts it! Whatever happened with Bafana Bafana in the AFCON can be attributed to many things including the developmental stage of players. “From all corners of SA we must unite and put differences aside for the benefit of our talent and our national games! No coach at any level should be allowed to coach without being a member of SAFCA and endorse all SAFCA policies and initiatives,” said Coach Omar Davids. This above statement makes lot of sense to TOUCHLINE but I don’t know how it goes down with others, especially those men and women who are involved with this beautiful game – football. “Forward We Go, No More Turning Back”. Manzi, man with mission to revive volleyball in Sedibeng

SEDIBENG. - Zenzile ‘ZE’ Manzi is a man with a mission to revive volleyball in Sedibeng. This ambitious young man recently hosted a succesful tournament at the Saul Tsotetsi Sports Complex in Zone 14, Sebokeng. The tournament saw Emfuleni volleyball teams from Bophelong, Boipatong, Sharpeville, Evaton, Vanderbiljpark and Sebokeng battling for honours. According to Manzi these games take place on the third week of each month with the main aim being to revive volleyball in Sedibeng. Manzi says he was overwhelmed by the response when 46 participants turned out for this event. “These games form part of reviving this sport in Sedibeng. We want to bring volleyball back in Sedibeng and played every weekend as was the case in the past. I wish to thank everyone who made this tournament a success - the Sebokeng community, teams and players for displaying such a quality game,” he said. Manzi reveals that the next tournament is scheduled to take place in Boipatong on the third week of February. He also appeals to the Boipatong community to come in numbers to support the initiative.

Promising female golf player crowned champ Zacharia Nale
EVATON.- Evaton Golf Club hosted its monthly golf tournament at the Evaton Golf Course over the weekend. Nthabiseng Radebe who was the only female golfer took position one with 95 shots, while Brooks Masuku and Rasta Tsotetsi came in second position with 77 shots. Ace Mofokeng finished third with 76 shots. Martin Mpholo of the Evaton Golf Club was full of compliments for outstanding performance of the up-and-coming golfer, Nthabiseng Radebe. Mpholo believes that Radebe has the
potential to become a household name in golf if she continues to work hard. “I have no doubt that this young lady will go far with the sport from what I saw today. She is very talented and very brave. She wasn’t intimidated by her male counterparts and she made her presence felt so it came as no surprise when she won the tournament,” says Mpholo.
