Threemonthold baby found by waste site
Mduduzi Mathebula
SEBOKENG. - While others are in pain at not being able to give birth, others seem to take this precious gift lightly. The Vaal Rand Police need the undivided assistance of the community to find the parents of a three- or fourmonth-old baby found in the bush in a waste site just behind the Sebokeng Hospital. The baby boy was found on Monday morning by a passer-by who later alerted Police about the incident. The child was taken for a check-up and allocated to a safe place in the hospital for the time being. Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says soon the child will be taken to a place of safety pending a social worker’s report. A case of child abandonment has been opened. “We are investigating a case of child abandonment. The child was found behind Sebokeng Hospital at a dump site in the bush. “Police were alerted by a community member who heard the child crying. “He had been deserted next to a tree and was crying. Needless to say, he was not getting any kind of help,” explained Funda. Funda further said that the child’s condition is good. According to the doctor’s report he will soon be fit enough to be taken to a place of safety. “We urge the community to help find the parents or report any person who has lost a child.” If you have any information about the case and how to assist in finding the parents of the child please contact the investigating officer Sergeant Lenny Kwankwa on 073 359 3539.

One TLB serves all Emfuleni cemeteries?
Lazarus Dithagiso
VANDERBIJLPARK. - Emfuleni Local Municipality (ELM) has twelve active cemetery sites in its area. Apparently one Tractor-loader-backhoe (TLB) spotted by Sedibeng Ster is used to dig graves for families to conduct funerals over weekends. Active cemeteries are Nanescol, Vanderbijlpark, Evaton, Jacobskop, Rust-terVaal, Roshnee, Sicelo, Meyerton. Acting Emfuleni manager for Communications Stanley Gaba said Wednesdays and Thursdays are the only periods allocated for digging. Fridays are for burials. He said Inkokheli is violating the terms of its contract. The municipality has applied serious clauses according to which a contractor that violates the agreement, will see the service discontinued without further negotiation. Sedibeng Ster arrived at the Vanderbijlpark cemetery on Saturday. Family members of the deceased were queuing for the TLB to finish digging. Gaba said the municipality knows Inkokheli
has assigned two TLBs to perform diligently in respect of digging at the mentioned cemeteries. On the subject of scheduled operations and payment for graves, Gaba said registrations of death are compiled and paid for by family accompanied by competent undertakers. The closing day for payment and registration for graves is mid-Wednesday. This is to allow the proper digging and grave scheduling. By Thursday, Inkokheli is given the schedule to start digging graves monitored by a senior engineer. The graves are dug according to the size of the casket. If the casket is more expensive - and therefore bigger than standard size - families have to inform the officer during payment that they are burying in what size or kind of coffin. The Police and Municipal By-Law Unit every week monitors illegal burials or tombstone erections. Residents are urged not to use unregistered and suspectedly incompetent funeral undertakers. “Doing so poses serious threats to the health and well being of the community,” said Gaba.

MEYERTON. - The number of the people sleeping in dilapidated old municipal buildings and unused shelters is on the increase. Some are afflicted by poverty, unemployment and mental illness. They travel from as far as the Free State, Limpopo, Kwa-Zulu Natal Provinces, to try their luck digging for ‘gold’ in the cities. However, business people suspect that the unemployed make areas prone to break-ins because they sleep near businesses. Apparently they are wolves in sheeps’ clothing, looking innocent during the day, but

becoming dangerous in the middle of the night. Constable Maria Mazibuko has assured business people and members of communities not to press the panic button. She said sector vehicles are available on 12-hour shifts. The task of Police is to fight crime through the assistance of both business people and communities. Police through the help of government departments and non profit organisations, can help remove homeless people from the streets. Constable Mazibuko said it is the responsibility of the Department of Social Development to seek shelter for homeless people. “A business forum in Meyerton is looking out for the interests of businesses,” she says. adding that the community must always report crimes taking place within their areas.

Accident claims one life, 14 injured Mduduzi Mathebula
VEREENIGING. - A road accident shocked Vaal residents on Wednesday and claimed one life, injuring 14. The accident happened on the R82 (Old Johannesburg Road) where 14 schoolchildren were injured. One was air-lifted to Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. It was 06:30 when the VW combi capsized with schoolchildren alleged to have been travelling from Riverside High School. Taxi driver Tshepo Maline was declared dead just after the accident by paramedics deployed to the scene. Traffic accumulated as the accident scene took its toll all over the region. Parents were devastated and scared for their children’s lives and the news went viral
on social networks and local media. It is alleged a tyre burst while the taxi was in motion near Damfontein. The taxi overturned several times before rolling to a stop, spilling its passengers. Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda confirms one life was lost in the accident while 14 people were treated for shock in different hospitals. One was air-lifted for emergency care. “The combi rolled several times and ended on its wheels on the side of the road in an open field. “The driver of the combi and the children were thrown out of the car; the driver was certified dead on the scene by paramedics. All children were also attended to by the paramedics after which 14 (fourteen) of them were taken to different hospitals. Police are investigating a case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving. “We would like to urge our drivers to drive cautiously during peak hours, more especially those that are transporting people. A case of culpable homicide and reckless and negligent driving is being investigated,” says Funda.
SEBOKENG. - An 82-year-old ‘gogo’ was defrauded of R15 000 in cash inside a bank. One of the three suspects pretended to assist the old woman but had been following her after she received her pension grant at Sebokeng Plaza on October 10 last year at around 11:00 (am). He told her that somebody smeared some kind of ‘muthi’ on her shoulder. He said the muthi would make her money disappear. As he was trying to assist the victim, a white sedan appeared from nowhere. The two occupants claimed to be Police. They told the ‘gogo’ that they wanted to assist her to trace and arrest the suspects. They all drove to the Absa bank in Evaton Mall. The suspect pictured took the ‘gogo’ into the bank to withdraw all the cash. Sergeant Given Makhubela said they went to the cashier inside the bank. The suspect was always standing close to `gogo’. After R15 000 had been withdrawn, the suspect took the money along with the ‘gogo’ and both went outside. Their car was waiting for them, said Police. Gogo was put in the car before they travelled. She was dropped off at the intersection of the Golden Highway and Boitumelo near Mandela Square shopping complex. The ‘gogo’ was instructed to wait near the road by the men as they were still going to look out for the suspects. The poor woman waited until she gave up, said Police. Police appeal to members of the public or the person pictured to come forward to assist with information. All calls will remain anonymous. For assistance please call Sergeant Given Makhubela on 076 499 9919 or Constable Mokete Leisa on 073 647 8173.

Child held hostage for hours is saved
Lazarus Dithagiso
BOIPATONG. – The community of Smarties section, Boipatong, said they were astonished, but kept praying to God for miracles as a man held his wife and six-year-old niece hostage at gunpoint inside a house. The father of Nthati Moshodi (6) - Thapelo Mokoena (30) - said he thanks God for His intervention on Valentines Day. The suspect, Lebogang ‘Lebo’ Ramafikeng, was arrested and briefly appeared before Magistrate Jimmy Mmatli at the Vanderbijlpark Court on Monday. He faces serious charges of kidnapping and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is out on R1 000 bail for further investigation until March 19. The suspect arrived at his wife’s parents home while Nthati was sent to the shop by her grandmother. Wielding the firearm, he allegedly demanded that the ‘gogo’ tell him the whereabout of his wife and child, said neighbours. The old lady managed to run outside into the street for help. The community were alerted by the screaming of the gogo. They rushed to assist but immediately backed off on seeing the firearm. Returning from the shop, Nthati froze at
gogo’s scream. Lebo grabbed the child by the arm and returned with her to the yard, leaving behind the gogo. He was heard by the neighbours saying he wanted his wife and child or else he would blow Nthati and himself away with the gun in his hand. The poor Nthati was begging for Lebogang not to kill her. A negotiation team arrived and pleaded with the man not to take their lives. After a while, the man released the girl before handing the firearm to the police through a window. The police later gained entry and asked him to hand himself over as they wouldn’t harm or hurt him. The man was arrested. Thapelo said he was called by his friend while at work in Sasolburg: “When I arrived, I wanted to go into the yard to speak to Lebo and to tell the interloper to either shoot me or leave my daughter alone. The police stopped me, saying my daughter was safe.” Holding his traumatised daughter, Thapelo said he thanks God that Lebo’s plan did not materialise. “I don’t think he intended to shoot both my daughter and himself. It took five hours for the negotiation team
to convince him. If indeed he wanted to commit the crime, he would have done it before the police arrived,” he said. Lebogang’s wife had left the previous day
together with their child. Not long ago, apparently, the suspect was slapped with a protection order after threatening his wife with a firearm.

Metro still on the cards SEDIBENG.- There has been a somewhat deafening silence and considerable uncertainty about the issue of whether local municipalities are still due to amalgamate. Now the Sedibeng District Municipality (SDM) through its acting director of external communications Lebo Mofokeng confirms that the amalgamation process is still on the go as approved by the Municipal Demarcation Board, MDB. The MDB has declared that the redetermination of municipal boundaries of Emfuleni, Midvaal, Local Municipalities and Sedibeng District Municipality is still going on. The redetermination will amalga-
mate them into a single category A Metropolitan Municipality. With the formation of the metropolitan municipality, the Sedibeng District Municipality will fall away. In addition Lesedi Local Municipality will be excluded from Sedibeng District municipality and be included into Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality. There had been rumours lately, particularly on social networks, that the move has been halted. “The rumours are not true. In fact, the move towards a system of metros for Gauteng has escalated with a move to have the West Rand District also becoming a Metro in 2016. The process is still ‘alive and
well’ and has officially moved into the ward demarcation process to begin preparing for new wards in 2016,” says Mofokeng. She adds that, as recently as this month, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA), convened a working session to map out the transition processes and that all affected municipalities participated in these session. The Democratic Alliance (DA) has however lodged a case with the courts to halt the merger. Sedibeng District Municipality Acting Di rector of External Communications, Lebo Mofokeng. Gogo needs your help SHARPEVILLE - An 85-year-old gogo from Vuka is desperately seeking help after her house was burned down last December. However, how the fire started remains mystery as there was no-one there. The granny who needs your help is Josephine Ngubane from
Vuka house No 51554. This week Ngubane visited Sedibeng Ster offices asking the newspaper to help her fix her house because people who promised to help had sent her from pillar to post. According to Ngubane, she went to a local organisation, including the ANC Sharpeville branch, and they promised to help her but, to this day, nothing has happened. In a heart-to-heart interview with Sedibeng Ster, the granny says there is no roof over her house and not long ago criminals broke in and took her remaining belongings. When asked what happened that resulted in the house being burned, Ngubane says, “All of us were not home when this happened. We were called by my neighbours and when we arrived the house was on fire. “I can’t really tell you what happened because I left the house and the next thing I was called by my neighbours saying my house

Sedibeng Ster is my last hope because I was advised to come here to ask for help from the Sedibeng community. I can’t live in this kind of condition because when it rains it is a problem for me. I’m a pensioner and I can’t afford to fix the house with the money because I also have to take care of my children who are not working,” Ngubane says. Better services for Boiketlong on the way
Lazarus Dithagiso
SEBOKENG. - Executive Emfuleni mayor Gretha Hlongwane has promised residents of the Boiketlong informal settlement better services. Addressing a handful of community members over the weekend, Hlongwane said from Thursday (today), she will send in the TLBs and bull-dozers to pick up all the rubbish lining the road and clean the roads in the whole area. Hlongwane did not want to dwell too
much on the issue of land apparently sold for R45 million by the owner. The owner apparently had put an offer of purchase to the municipality. Hlongwane said it is not true that she mentioned early that the municipality would never install electricity for the community of Boiketlong, adding that currently the government is looking toward installation of a solar system. However, there were mixed reactions as to where and how the solar system should
be installed. Many say they want it over the roof of the shacks. Apparently the municipality prefers to go solar once the mass lights have been installed. The community were very happy when the mayor mentioned that Gauteng Housing MEC Mamabolo will visit the area for further inspection for a township establishment plan on February 21. The residents indicated to Hlongwane that they hope she will keep her word. They urged her not to raise the hopes of the community for nothing.

RUST-TER-VAAL. - The residents of Rust-ter-Vaal recently demanded to be treated with respect and dignity that they deserve by the Emfuleni Local Municipality, ELM. Under the auspices of SANCO ward 16, the residents signed a petition against what they term harassment and intimidation by MBD Credit Solution, a company hired by ELM to collect outstanding rates and taxes due to the municipality. At a meeting attended by SANCO regional chairperson Mlungisi Hlongwane, his regional secretary Stanley Sinyanya and five executive members, the residents gathered in numbers to show their dissatisfaction over the telephone calls and SMSs they are receiving from MBD telling them to pay or have their property attached. In unison the residents made it clear that they are prepared to pay for services but were disturbed by the erroneous billing system. Furthermore they requested MBD to provide a more detailed statement on their accounts in terms of the arrears demanded. Following the meeting the residents signed a petition and gave it to SANCO Sedibeng leadership and mandated them to challenge MBD Credit Solutions. Residents unanimously agreed that they are being harassed and intimidated because Rust-ter-Vaal is still classified under the Apartheid Statutory Act thus ELM sends them exorbitant bills.

Hoping for the best
Warts and all, the State of the Nation Address (SONA) has come and gone. I will not dwell much on the happenings of the day but much rather on a few points of interest that I gleaned from the president’s speech. I am quite chuffed that the president realises that “Our economy needs a major push forward.” I also hope that with the nine-point plan he put forward to ignite growth and create
jobs - which includes, amongst other things, resolving the energy challenge, revitalizing agriculture and the agro-processing value chain, advancing beneficiation or adding value to our mineral wealth, more effective implementation of a higher impact Industrial Policy Action Plan, encouraging private sector investment, moderating workplace conflict, unlocking the potential of SMMEs, cooperatives, township and rural enterprises, state reform and boosting the role of state owned companies, ICT infrastructure or broadband roll out, water, sanitation and transport infrastructure as well as, ‘Operation
Phakisa’ aimed at growing the ocean economy and other sectors - that everything will work out well. Quite pleasing is also the fact that President Jacob Zuma said that the year 2015 will see further improvements in labour legislation to further promote worker rights. In his address he further said that the labour department will review the sectoral determinations of agriculture, forestry, private security, wholesale and retail sectors. Quite pleasing don’t you think? The finalisation of the Employment Services Act of 2014 which formally establishes
a public employment service is expected soon. “The legislation also formally regulates the practices of private employment agencies and temporary employment services, to prevent the abuse of unsuspecting work seekers,” he said. Zuma also said the Unemployment Insurance Act of 2001 will be amended to improve benefits to beneficiaries and include public servants in the application of the Act. My only wish and for sure a wish of a host others is to see all this becoming a reality. Here is hoping for the best. Lerato...

MEYERTON. - The executive mayors of both Sedibeng District Municipality and Midvaal Local Municipality were recently overjoyed to welcome the Auditor-General of South Africa, Kimi Makwetu, to this region. Makwetu made a personal visit to the Sedibeng District Municipality and the Midvaal Local Municipality last week. His visit was part of a personal tour of selected municipalities throughout South Africa that have achieved Clean Audits for the 2013/2014 Financial Years. Midvaal Local Municipal executive mayor Bongani Baloyi, Auditor General of South Africa Kimi Makwetu and Sedibeng District Municipal executive mayor Simon Mof okeng.
Shop local, Eat local, Spend local, Enjoy local ● It takes you to start the trend
The Executive Mayors of the Sedibeng District and the Midvaal Local Municipalities received Makwetu at the Sicelo Community Hall in Meyerton where both mayors made presentations on how they achieved their Clean Audits. Makwetu took the meeting further by arranging site visits to establish the connection between Clean Audits and service delivery. In this regard he made a visit to the Meyerton Waste Water Treatment Works, a housing project of 430 homes in Sicelo and road developments on Mimosa Avenue in Meyerton. Both mayors expressed their appreciation to the Auditor-General for acknowledging the achievements, but felt the visit served to further motivate them to lead their respective municipalities to greater service delivery standards and to work hard to sustain their Clean Audits.

Kholeka takes on television Lerato Serero
SEDIBENG.- Renowned gospel singer Kholeka Dubula is venturing into new areas. She is now the host of Icilongo, a gospel music show that airs on Mzansi Magic every Sunday from 9:00 till 10:00. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster the blazing singer says that the show is a breath of fresh air and that it caters for all denominations and ordinary people that are hungry for spiritual music. Dubula has over ten records under her belt. For years she was the first soul sister from Bula Music where she released five best-selling albums. She has since been recording under her own
production label. She hosts the gospel music show with Steven Molakeng. “I have been through trials and tribulations but God has always been greater than whatever stood on my path and with me hosting this show I am able to in a way tell a story. To show that God is indeed great. “I am happy with the viewership that we have been receiving thus far and promise my supporters and the viewers that more is till to come as the power of God is great,” Dubula says. The show premiered in January. “I urge the viewers to view the show every Sunday as the time is suitable for most before they go to church and they will never regret it”, Dubula ends.

great songs of praise to acknowledge the visitors and the gifts they had brought to the school. There were words of encouragement from different speakers to learners. School principal Pakiso Matebesi was very humbled by the reaction of the learners and thrilled to have received these visitors to the school. He said they were more than visitors but people who brought gifts to elevate the
education system: “These children are our future and the future of this country lies within their education.” The gift of uniforms was handed to the staff HOD and principal by the Tswelopele leadership delegated to the school. However, it was not the only school Women Empowerment gave to. They even went into the surrounding area of Sebokeng to give to the underprivileged.

A woman with a mission
Barbie Reabetswe Thekiso (26) is a lady with great ambitions. Born and bred in the Vaal triangle she matriculated at General Smuts High school in 2007. She then left the Vaal triangle to go study Risk Management with Santam Insurance as an intern in 2008. It went on from 2008 to 2010 she was then selected as the best intern amongst 75 other students. With her parents having a dream of me becoming a teacher she ‘failed’ them dismally by choosing the insurance industry. The now owner of Blue Fashion Harbour and Blue Breeze Domestic Cleaning Services says: “They were very doubtful and sceptical about my career path. When I worked at Santam “as an intern I wanted to be a sales Rep as I earned commission and therefore I could determine my own salary based on good sales. I basically ran my own business from their offices I started performing extremely well for a novices. I did so well I bought my first car at 19 years. My parents were extremely proud of me and so were a lot of my peers. I had a great believe in myself that there had to be more then working for a company.” Thekiso had a lot of women who admired her sense of fashion and would ask where she buys her clothes especially shoes and this happened everywhere she went. People would give her money and ask her to buy them clothes or even accompany them to go shopping.
“And my love for Fashion grew. I then started buying clothes overseas and bring them to SA and I got quite a response from people. I officially started shipping clothing, jewellery and shoes and started selling them and that’s How Blue Fashion Harbour was birthed. It has grown so much and so quick from running the business from the boot of my car to being able to getting a store in the mall,” Thekiso says. Blue Breeze Domestic cleaning and maintenance services are aimed at creating employment for single woman and mothers. They offer employment solutions to anyone who needs a helper, reliable maid, nanny, or cleaner who are run through background checks. And they can be hired or employed Part time and fulltime basis. They have hired helpers who are given training and equipped with relevant skills and tools in order for them to perform the duties effectively and efficiently. Water can’t increase without more water. The same can be said for the development of football in this country. Players won’t grow without proper COACHING! Players want to grow up in an environment where there is growth, where they can learn and become better players. The only reason these youngsters go and join other teams is not because they want to, but because they want to grow; they want to become better players. For that matter, they want to compete and play alongside better players. TOUCHLINE is aware that some coaches lose their players to other teams and this always becomes a concern. However, no child leaves his home to become a ‘street kid’ if there is love and care. TOUCHLINE’s exact point is that whe-
re there is no growth, there is no future. These youngsters want to be challenged, inspired and grow as footballers. Football has changed drastically and development coaches should also be prepared to change. They should stop doing things in a traditional way! TOUCHLINE talked to one of the most educated coaches in this country Conti Kubheka about the aspects of being a coach. Bra Conti, as is widely known, said it is the duty of the coach to empower himself or herself for the sake of these youngsters. The failure of Bafana Bafana is not the responsibility of Shakes Mashaba and his technical staff only – but a true reflection of the development of South African football. If development coaches don’t do the right thing at grassroots level, how can we expect
those boys to perform miracles when they graduate to the national team? The development of a player is a collective effort where players get every kind of support - not only in the field of play, but also in education. No one can simply go and live on the cold streets of Johannesburg. There must be a good reason why he or she decided to leave home. TOUCHLINE’s message to all development coaches is: Those youngsters want to learn new things about football, not only by playing but about HOW they should be playing. This is what is lacking in the development of players – how they must play. It is no longer about putting eleven players in the field of play. It is now way more that. Take notes from TOUCHLINE … !!!
Boston opens the gateway to higher education Over the past few years, South Africa’s matric pass rate has shown an increase – from 60.6% in 2009 to 75.8% in 2014. While as a country we are celebrating this growth and hoping it is a reflection of improved teaching and teaching methods, we also recognise the serious problem in the overall education and training system in relation to a lack of capacity to train and educate for a skills-intensive economy. Ignoring for a moment the fact that less than half the students that began Grade 1 twelve years ago made it to Grade 12 and further ignoring for a moment that these young people need access to occupational skills and training, it remains a fact that more often than not learners need to further their matric education in order to acquire knowledge and practical skills that, together with their matric, will allow them to enter the job market. Matric is a year fraught with tension, competition, and very hard work. Learners leave this year absolutely worn out and oftentimes ill-equipped to deal with the battles that lay ahead in terms of securing a viable future for themselves and their future families.

Accounting and Event Management to name but a few. These are bridging courses that can provide you access to higher education programmes at Boston. On successful completion thereof, you will have met the entry requirements to a range of higher education Diplomas and secured future vertical access to a degree programme, achieved without having to redo Grade 12! Rather than repeating matric, Boston believes that a better option is to move forward with one’s tertiary education by completing a Gateway course. The advantages of participating successfully in a Gateway access route is that not only will one then have access to Boston diplomas (and degrees after that), but because there are various pathways one also gets a ‘taste’ of one’s chosen career and the opportunity to find out if it really is your preferred career choice, or whether you should be looking at alternative careers. For example, you may choose the marketing management gateway programme and decide marketing is not for you, but you really enjoyed the financial management side of things. Then you also get a taste of the time, commitment and effort involved in tertiary or higher education, and you can see if you are suited to something that is very academic or perhaps whether you should investigate a programme that is more practically oriented towards a specific occupation Continuing with your chosen career path into the original degree or diploma of your choice, will further give you a head start of credits towards your degree or diploma. “A good education system ensures not only the development of human endeavours, but guarantees the maintenance of adequately functioning social, political and economic systems. Over the past few years, the country has seen a doubling of the education budget, yet the resources invested have not resulted in a dramatic increase in the quality of education and the merit attached to a matric certificate. While government alone might not have the solution, we at Boston believe that this dilemma must be made a national challenge that invites tertiary institutions to step up. Our learners deserve a chance at higher education, and a chance to prove themselves. In establishing the Gateway Programme they have now been given that chance,” Contact Boston College Vereeniging for more information about this exciting opportunity and start your Education For Life at 016 422 1725/6 or visit the branch at Tembador building, Rhodes Avenue, Vereeniging. Registrations for this gateway is still open!!

Ezenkosi on the way back to PSL
Zacharia Nale
VANDERBIJLPARK. - It seems to be a twohorse race between Jomo Cosmos, otherwise known as Ezenkosi, and the Golden Arrows. Both are bent on reclaiming their Premier Soccer League status if their current performance is anything to go by. Ezenkosi became second on the log after beating Milano United 2 - 1 in the exciting National First Division League match played at the Isak Steyl Stadium on Saturday. Cosmos has accumulated 35 points from 18, while Golden Arrows top the standing with 36 points from the same number as Cosmos. The home side could have buried their opponents alive but, as has been their story this season, their strikers were wasteful in front of goals. It was the same old story - creating lots of scoring opportunities but failing to convert their chances into goals. This might haunt them at the end of the season. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport after beating Milano United, Cosmos boss Jomo Sono
says the return of his side into top flight football will open many opportunities for youngsters in this country. He says Cosmos is the only team in this country that believes in unknown talent. “I know many people can’t wait to see Cosmos return to the Premier Soccer League next season and I have no doubt that we will achieve this, taking into consideration how we play. There is plenty of commitment from players and they also feel it is time for them to play in the PSL. We are not worried about other teams as we take each game as it comes,” says Sono. Ezenkosi will travel to Cape Town to face FC Cape Town at Rugby Stadium on Saturday. This is not going to be an easy outing for Cosmos, taking into consideration the unpredictable weather of Cape Town. However, Sono was convinced that his side will overcome their opponents despite the windy weather of Cape Town.

Boxing back in townships Zacharia Nale
BOIPATONG. - Boxing was back in the townships when the Sedibeng Boxing Association held a Boxing Regional Championship at the Boipatong Hall recently. This development tournament saw town and township boxing clubs competing for honour on the day. The tour-
nament was organised by the Sedibeng Boxing Association in conjunction with Emfuleni Local Municipality Sports and Recreation. It has been a while since a boxing tournament took place in Boipatong despite the fact that two great boxers - Bongani Mahlangu and Gideon Buthelezi - come from the area. It was also good to see white boxers fighting there, which is something

that served to revive the spirit of boxing in townships. Thanduxolo Madikizela of Emfuleni Local Municipality Sports and Recreation says the response was unbelievable, especially from both community and the clubs. He hailed the tournament as a great success taking into consideration that it was the first time in ages that a boxing tournament was hosted
in the area. “I want to take this opportunity to thank all the participants, especially the Boipatong community, for making this event a success. And based on the response we intend to host a follow-up boxing tournament in the area to thank all the people of Boipatong for their support,” he concluded.
