Queue marshall causes deaths at Vereeniging taxi rank
Mduduzi Mathebula
VEREENIGING. - The congested Vereeniging taxi rank came to a standstill on Friday when an unlicensed queue marshall allegedly drove over two people before he fled the scene. The suspect was arrested a few minutes after the accident as he pulled the stunt of running away from the horrific accident. The accident had claimed two lives.
Ellen Tsidi, a Zimbabwean national street vendor, and a taxi owner from Refengkgotso known as Mokoena were both declared dead by paramedics who attended the scene just after the accident. According to some bystanders, the suspect had no idea that the vehicle was in gear, which resulted in the vehicle ‘jumping’ from its position, driving over the two deceased, stunning most taxi users. Mokoena’s body was dragged a few me-
tres from the collision position, hitting against the taxi rank wall, whilst Tsidi was driven over and her sprawling body was exposed. Police spokesperson Captain Fikile Funda says a case of culpable homicide has been opened and the suspect has been detained. “The suspect will face a magistrate soon on a charge of culpable homicide. Further investigations will be conducted,” said Funda.

Goodwill ambassador Facar is back! Lazarus Dithagiso
VANDERBIJLPARK. - Well known HIV/ Aids activist Fabrice Facar, Goodwill ambassador for children, visited the Emfuleni Shelter for Boys to donate a wide range of gifts, including food parcels last Wednesday. Said Facar during the visit: “There can be nothing more special than celebrating the joy of children, particularly children in shelters and those roaming the street. Children are the future of the country and we need to nurture and care for them.” Emfuleni Shelter is close to Facar’s heart. He added that whenever he brings food toward his mouth, he first thinks of those children who do not have bread on the table. During his visit to the Shelter, he was handed a letter of appreciation by the board management for his good work for the entire community. One dies in accident
VANDERBIJLPARK.- One person died and two others were critically injured in Curie Boulevard in Vanderbijlpark in the early hours of Sunday morning. It is understood that the driver of the vehicle lost control and hit a tree. ER24 paramedics and other services arrived on scene and found the badly damaged vehicle. Two women were trapped in the vehicle and a man was ejected. Paramedics assessed the man. Unfortunately there was nothing paramedics could do for him. He was declared dead. Fire and Rescue Services extricated the women from the vehicle. They were assessed and it was found that they had sustained critical injuries. They were treated and transported to local hospitals for further medical care. The exact cause of the incident is unknown, however. Authorities were on scene for further investigation..

SEBOKENG. - The Sebokeng Old Age Home in Zone 13 needs the community’s help in tracking down the family of a pensioner at the home. According to Dalene Pretorious, the home’s manager, Kwebedi Simon Dlamini has been at the home since July 2007. Until I saw Prophet Shiru on SABC TV helping people. I took down his number and booked an appointment with him. He charged me only R100 to read my fortune and showed me my enemies in a mirror and I was shocked. He made them come and confess everything they had done to me as professed by Prophet Shiru. They caused me to break up with my husband and have lots of bad luck. They had done muthi that made my forehead swell and tokoloshe grow inside it. He then performed ritual to remove it and showed it to me and cured me after that. There’s no other way I can thank Prophet Shiru than telling the whole world about him. It stinks in Sicelo residents
Moleboheng Chaha
MEYERTON. - Sicelo Informal Settlement residents do not wish to continue using the current toilet system. This comes after allegations from residents that the service provider, for the past few weeks, has failed to service the toilets. Residents say, “Sicelo stinks. We cannot be expected to continue living like this.” Residents state that it would only be fair if the Midvaal Local Municipality installed a proper toilet system. Another matter bothering residents is that of the unfinished RDP housing project. Residents say they are tired of living in shacks whilst completed houses remain unoccupied nearby. Municipal Acting Mayor and MMC for Engineering Services Dennis Ryder (Midvaal) says: “Toilets in Sicelo were supplied and are serviced by the Gauteng Province. While we are pleased to act as a conduit for
communications with the provincial department, we are not in direct control of the servicing by the contractor. The situation as it exists is the best interim solution to the problem of sanitation.” Ryder adds that the ‘RDP’ houses are also a provincial project and that housing is a provincial competency: “The bigger plan for Sicelo is to firstly have the Gauteng Province complete construction of the 430 houses, which are part of the project currently in progress. The project has been delayed numerous times due to the procurement process at the Department of Human Settlements and contractors who have not followed through on their obligations. “The provincial department is currently finalising a beneficiary list from which the first batch of houses can be occupied. We eagerly await this list, which was promised for March 31 of 2015 but has not yet been received.
“Once the first families have moved to formal housing, some adjustments can be made to the existing layout of the informal settle-
ment to create more space and improve the layout. Construction is then due to begin on the next phase of the housing project.”
This is one of the toilets Sicelo resi dents say they do not want.
Community applies people’s justice to street robber Mduduzi Mathebula
SEBOKENG. - A young woman who cannot be named was recently robbed by two unknown men on Saturday on the Golden Highway near Sonderwater. Here the two suspects took her purse and cell phone before fleeing into the bushes. The two did not know what the final result of their actions would be. As the young lady screamed for help motorists and some community members noticed the woman’s ordeal. The community chased after the two sus-
pects along with motorists. One of the suspects jumped into a sewerage water pipe to avoid capture and one was apprehended by the community, who gave him a piece of their collective mind (a beating). The suspect experienced people’s justice and begged the irate community for mercy, but they did not want to hear anything from him. The suspect was beaten up by any passerby who took turns beating or stoning him. On Sedibeng Ster’s arrival the suspect was
still in the hands of the community and they would not let go of him as they said they wanted him to pay in his blood for the pain he had cost the young woman. He was ‘rescued’ from the angry crowd by Police, who were patrolling the area

VUT condemns xenophobia Lazarus Dithagiso
VANDERBIJLPARK. - The vice chancellor of the Vaal University of Technology (VUT) Professor Irene Moutlana condemned in strong terms the recent barbaric attacks on foreigners. Moutlana pleaded and demanded that strong action be taken by the government. VUT students left their classes on Tuesday morning and gathered at the Isak Steyl Stadium in Vanderbijlpark to condemn the attacks. “We are one nation. We should love one another and never allow criminals to divide us by calling others foreigners. 10% of the student body are students from the international community. “A foreigner is someone unknown or
not belonging. Let us demystify the concept that has cost our dear brothers and sisters lives today. As an institution, we condemn the killing of Africans by any human being acting on xenophobia.” Students’ Representative Council president Troy Mathebula called for the South African Police to protect everyone in the country. He said Africa belongs to all who live in it irrespective of the colour, creed or race. In an exclusive interview at the stadium, Emfuleni Local Municipal DA Councillor Jaco Karsten said the level of xenophobic attacks is unacceptable: “We have to work together in the country and region as it is imperative to join hands to make sure we build our economy and social development as a nation.”

Stop this nonsense! Some people learn to forget, I say this as xenophobic attacks ravage our beloved country, South Africa. I would like to add my voice to condem the attacks on our brothers and sisters from different parts of the motherland. Enough is enough. I would like to express my sincere condolences to families that have lost loved ones and also make mention that I sympathise with those that have been hurt and lost property in all this madness. I agree with the words of the vast majority of this country that reject segregation, xenophobia and violence. Xenophobia is an expression of a terrible failure of memory. We are forgetting the long years of struggle against ethnic and related forms of identity mobilisation. We are forgetting the support given by the peoples of the African continent to the struggle against apartheid and we are forgetting the legacies of liberation stalwarts like Nelson Mandela, Ahmed Kathrada and many other vete-
rans of the struggle. The words of our former leader, Nelson Mandela resonate: “No one is born hating another person because of the colour of his skin, or his background, or his religion. People must learn to hate, and if they can learn to hate, they can be taught to love, for love comes more naturally to the human heart than its opposite.” Africa is our home. I am an African before becoming a South African. South Africa belongs to all who live in it. So stop this xenophobia nonsense. Lerato...

SEBOKENG. - “My rich father, my music and all.” These are the exact words of the son of the late Mzayifani Nosenga. He passed on two years back but his son Xoli Nosenga has produced a book to be launched on April 28 at the Zone 7 library in partnership with the Emfuleni Local Municipality. Its theme is ‘Family, Courage and Pride’ Xoli made his name through music in the early millennium. He was filled with a negative ‘take’ on how the world knows him as the child of the late rich man. In the book Xoli does not spare anything in detailing his family life, all good and bad. “I had to stand on my own and move away from my father’s riches,” says Nosenga. The book is about his life and the family in which he was raised. “All the hardships, trials and temptations, the good life, will be part of the book,” says Nosenga in conclusion. For more detail on the launch call 082 753 4688.

into the picture. The question TOUCHLINE asks is: What is eating Sedibeng coaches and administrators? There is a tendency in this region whereby development coaches and administrators hate productive soccer teams. Two For Joy FC used to be the team that every youngster in this region wanted to play for. Many people used to say the team buys the referees every time it beat their teams. The question is – how did a team that buys referees end up having more than ten players in professional football? This region has stopped being productive because development

Almost ten years have passed since Sebokeng Two For Joy disappeared from South African football, but the team still boasts the record of producing household names more than any team in this region.
What does this mean? This region is no longer productive, taking into consideration how many players the now defunct Sebokng Two For Joy FC produced. This is the same team that produced household names. The only reason local development coaches and administrators hated this productive team was its success, nothing else. This was the only team that made sense as far as development is concerned in this region, and as soon as it disappeared from South African football, there were no more exciting youngsters from this region until - recently - Thabo ‘Jomo’ Rakhale came
coaches have allowed their egos to run our football. What a shocker! Over the weekend TOUCHLINE overheard an u/17 player insulting a female referee old enough to be his mother. TOUCHLINE doesn’t blame the boy. I blame his coaches. It becomes a problem when our children are coached by ‘nyaopes’. The question is: which team can break the record that Sebokeng Two For Joy FC set? There are three types of coaches in this region: those with big mouths, arm-chair critics and those who KNOW HOW. You tell TOUCHLINE which category of coach you support!

SA U/20 national team coach lauds Sedibeng Zacharia Nale
BOIPATONG. - South African U/20 National team coach Thabo Senong left the Boipatong Stadium overwhelmed by the talent displayed during the Aaron Mokoena U/17 Tournament final on Saturday. Senong, who is also one of the two assistant coaches to Bafana Bafana head coach’s Shakes Mashaba, says he was impressed by the quality of football displayed by the two finalists - Nale Academy and Sebokeng Academy. ‘Ama Cheese Boys’ - Nale Academy’s affectionate handle - was crowned tournament champion after it beat Sebokeng Academy 1 - 0 in an entertaining final. Both teams played with a brand new Nike soccer kit and there were also individual prizes in the form of Player Of The Tournament, Defender Of The Tournament, Goalkeeper Of The Tournament, Coach Of The Tournament. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Senong says he has no doubt that some players from both sides deserve to be given a chance to play for either the SA u/17 or u/20 national team: “I must applaud Aaron Mokoena for this initia-
tive because this is where realising their dream should start for these youngsters. What I saw today was unbelievable and I must give these two coaches credit for jobs well done. I will compile a report based on what I saw today.” Among notable names that graced the event were Orlando Pirates Captain Lucky Lekgwathi, who also believes Sedibeng remains the best when it comes to talent. Sedibeng District Municipality Mayor Sy Mofokeng handed over the trophies to the winning team. Sedibeng District Municipal Sports and Recreation organised the tournament in conjuction with the Aaron Mokoena Foundation. Speaking after the tournament Mokoena thanked all the participating teams since day one and the Sedibeng community for its support: “I want to take this opportunity to thank all the people who made this tournament a success, especially the players. Things went as planned from day one to the last day of the tournament.” In conclusion, the former Bafana Bafana captain said that, next year, he intends to make this tournament bigger and better.

Tshabalala to change school football
Zacharia Nale
SEDIBENG. - Sello ‘Zilo’ Tshabalala is the new chairperson of Sedibeng East District (D8) Football after he was elected unopposed recently. The motor-mouthed Tshabalala will lead ‘troubled’ Sedibeng East District Football and his most immediate promise is to make some drastic changes. This Mohloli Secondary School educator needs no introduction to local football, especially in school sports . Apart from school sports, for the past three years Tshabalala has been part of the MCS Sedibeng Cup organising committee. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sport, Tshabalala says it is high time that school football takes a new
direction. He challenges all the Sedibeng East District school principals to let their schools participate in the SAFSA competitions and to support football. Tshabalala says the primary school football activities will take place on Wednesdays while secondary (high) schools will vie on Thursdays: “Football used to be respected at schools and many soccer stars were discovered from schools. “We want to bring back those good memories when communities used to flock to the neighbouring soccer grounds to watch their favourite schools play. “I have confidence in my committee - that we will change school

The rest of the committee is: Sello Tshabalala (chairperson), Isaac Sebesebe (First deputy chairperson), Lenny Hlabisa (second deputy chairperson), Ellias Pule (general secretary), Mandla Malindi (deputy secretary), Gcina Mthimkhulu (treasurer), Soobi Mareletse (development officer).
