SHARPEVILLE. - A brother’s rage spiralled out of control and he apparently set the family house on fire in Matebeleng, Vuka on Tuesday morning. It is said that Moshwadiba Ngubeni (47) set the house on fire after his younger brother Tseko (45) had reprimanded him for bringing different girlfriends to the house on a regular basis. “I told him that this is not a motel where he can bring girls as he pleases. This is our parents’ house. We need to respect it as our mother is still alive. The house was given to me to look after,” says Tseko. On Tues-

day morning the unemployed Tseko left around 04:00 to look for work but was later alerted that the house was on fire. Upon his return everything was burned down. “I rushed back home and indeed the house was on fire. My brother ran after setting it alight. I hope he realises the pain he is putting our mother through. I’m going to have the worst Christmas. It is the rainy season and the house is roofless. I have no one to turn to,” says Tseko adding that since the house was handed over into his care he has been having problems with his brother. The family pleads with members of the community for help.

FUN FOR FAMILY AT DP DE VILLIERS FROM 15 NOVEMBER 2014 A golf driving range and family fitness park are opening on 15 November 2014 at the DP de Villiers Stadium. According to the chairman of the DP de Villiers Stadium Controlling Body, Henk Human, “these new facilities were developed following on the success of the upgrading work done at the stadium by the Sasol Ikusasa project over the past three years”. The stadium is now the preferred athletics venue in the Free State and residence of the Merlin leaguewinning Sasolburg Rugby Club. According to Henk, the upgrading has resulted in a huge growth in events with more than fifty confirmed bookings from January till the end of April 2015. These events include local, provincial and national athletics, with another international athletics meeting already booked for March 2015. A 2015 Valke Vodacom rugby match has also been secured and there is a strong possibility that we may even host a Currie Cup match in 2016, continues Henk. “The success we have achieved at the stadium can be largely attributed to the continued involvement of our active controlling body that is responsible to make the stadium a sustainable entity,” says Henk. Members are representative of local schools, clubs, the Rejuvenation of Metsimaholo Trust, the Metsimaholo Local Municipality, and local business and industries. Golf driving range The Sasolburg Rugby Club and the DP De Villiers Controlling Body will open a brand new golf driving range on the outside fields of the stadium. The driving range has a 60m tee box with two demarcated fairways to play to. The facility also offers a chipping green and bunker, as well as a kiosk where refreshments and general golf supplies will be sold.

Traffic officers’ case dismissed three years later

VANDERBIJLPARK. - Former dismissed Emfuleni Traffic officers Zakes Potsane and Madibedi Cindi are back on the road again. The two were suspended, then dismissed following an allegation that they had collected a cash bribe from a motorist. The incident involved the two officers who allegedly followed the motorist to withdraw cash at an ATM in Three Rivers in September 2011. After the ordeal, the victim blew the whistle at the traffic office in Vereeniging. The two were suspended by Emfuleni Public Safety MMC Velly Mcera after they had appeared in an identification parade. They were suspended before dismissal. Sedibeng Ster came across Cindi hard at work in the Vanderbijlpark CBD on DF Malan Street on Saturday. Apparently the three-year delayed case had been overturned at the Bargaining Council. Stanley Gaba, Emfuleni head of communication, confirmed their return. He told Sedibeng Ster that a disciplinary hearing was instituted. Both officials were found guilty, suspended and subsequently dismissed. But the two did not let the matter lie. They took it to the bargaining council.

They were reinstated after a collective agreement with the employer. “Look, we don’t have a personal vendetta against any workers. “A final decision has been reached. We are obliged to live by the bargaining council’s decision,” said Gaba. Cindi agreed that it had been a long case. “I am happy that everything is over and we are back on the road again.” When he was asked whether he thinks it was a set-up, he responded by saying, “I think it would be better to bury the past and not entertain it.” Potsane was not available for comment. Plot to kill SDM Mayor? SEDIBENG. - Some members of the African National Congress (ANC) in Sedibeng were implicated in serious allegations which surfaced last week of a plot to kill Sedibeng District Municipality Mayor Simon Mofokeng. A report in a national newspaper last week stated that the three men came forward to share the details of the alleged plot. The trio apparently lay bare how Mofokeng was followed and a hit-man was hired and paid R5 000 to make the mayor ‘disappear’. The paper reported that two of the men confessed to having secret meetings with a group of ANC members who want Mofokeng ousted from his position. Mofokeng has been in the

hot seat for over ten years, leading both the ANC Sedibeng Regional Executive Committee and the Sedibeng District Municipality. The pair apparently told the paper that meetings started in September and took place in different places, mainly the homes and at the offices of the ANC members who asked for their help to bring down the mayor. Asked to name ANC members in the group, the pair apparently mentioned individuals serving as members of the mayoral committee at the Emfuleni Local Municipality, one of three municipalities that make up the Sedibeng District Municipality. One of the men was apparently paid R4 900 and a laptop was given to him to track the movements of the mayor. It is also said that the men revealed

that a recent front page report by the same national newspaper showing an apparently drunk Mofokeng in a bar was the work of the group. One of the men also apparently revealed that the group is currently looking at ways of giving that video clip to one journalist employed by the SABC and international TV stations, so that it forces the ANC to recall Mayor Mofokeng. This comes just weeks ahead of the ANC Sedibeng Regional Executive Congress (REC) where a new executive committee will be elected later this month. Sedibeng District Municipality officials referred all queries on the matter to Themba Ndaba, Sedibeng ANC regional spokesperson, whom Sedibeng Ster could not reach at the time of going to print.

ORANGE FARMS. - The Orange Farm Eyethu Mall opening was disrupted by numerous community members who were unhappy with the allocation of employment last week. They were also irate about the handling of other matters. The huge protest erupted in the early hours of Tuesday. Protesters barricaded the main road to the mall, throwing huge rocks and burning tyres. In one voice they demanded employment and demanded answers to the questions listed in their memorandum. Some residents did not care about the protest and forced their way into the mall after a brief speech by Corporate Shared Services

MMC Mally Mokoena. Police were deployed to the scene and tried everything to stop people from disrupting the opening. Captain Johannes Motsiri says a case of public violence has been opened. Motsiri confirms that three people were arrested for malicious damage to property. “The suspects were arrested for damaging a victim’s X5 windscreen said to cost R60 000,’ says Motsiri. He added that the protestors were addressed by mall stakeholders and an agreement was reached to disperse. However, protestors handed over their memorandum, which they claim they have also sent to local government.

We are all the same

The past weeks have made some of us realise that the more things change the more they stay the same and that we will never be treated equally. The deaths of the young sport stars also revealed this is true in every sense. What with others getting provincial status funerals and others not. Many people particularly in social networks, raised some horrible and disgusting suggestions, in particular with regard to the death of Senzo Meyiwa, while forgetting that the families of the deceased were still in mourning. Where is our Ubuntu? Ubuntu speaks particularly about the fact that you can’t exist in isolation and forget that what happens to others will one day happen to you. You can’t be human all by yourself, and when you have this quality - Ubuntu - you are known for your generosity. We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity. I know that you and I are very different, we are different as the sun and the sea. To effectively communicate we must realise that we are different in the way we perceive the world and use this understanding as a guide to our communication. So, let us not be blind to our differences. But let us also direct attention to our common interests and to the means by which those differences can be resolved. And if we cannot end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity. For, in the end, our most basic common link is that we all inhabit this small planet. We all breathe the same air and, lastly, we all cherish our children’s future. Lerato…

am Shabalala, the municipal manager, announced the election of Jane Masite, Chief Audit Executive, as the president of the Institute of Municipal Finance Officers at the recent extended senior management meeting. Shabalala said Masite is a leading financial practitioner in our municipality, and has managed to single handedly put a national spotlight on Emfuleni. “Everything we do today going forward, will be under spotlight because of the presidential position”, explained Shabalala. The IMFO conference was held in Cape Town, where Jane Masite was elected unopposed for a term spanning two years. Masite made history by becoming the first black female to head IMFO, replacing Louise Muller who will remain a board member. IMFO is a South African professional body founded in 1929, and dedicated to establish and

maintain high standards of professionalism among municipal finance and municipal internal audit practitioners by providing an organizational framework for municipal finance officers to collectively enhance, maintain and promote professionalism in the field of municipal finance. During the last ten to fifteen years, the Institute has concentrated on establishing and cementing meaningful relations with key institutions functioning within South Africa. IMFO changed its name from Institute of Municipal Treasurers and Accountants (IMTA), almost twenty years ago, is widely recognized for its imperative advisory role to the various national bodies. In her acceptance speech, Masite acknowledged the importance, challenges, and expectations of the fast changing local government environment. She identified the need of a new name, a new identity to accommodate other related professions and the broader public sector member interest.

ane Masite, is a Certified Fraud Examiner and holds a B.Com Degree, Certificate in Municipal Finance, Certificate in Forensic Investigation, a Qualified Assessor and Quality Assuror. Jane is currently employed as Deputy Municipal Manager (Chief Audit Executive) for Emfuleni Local Municipality. She has extensive external audit, internal audit, corporate governance and risk management experience having previously worked for the Auditor General of South Africa (AGSA) for a number of years. She served IMFO for 10 years and is the erstwhile chairperson of the North West branch. One of her highlight at IMFO was to establish the Audit and Risk Chapter. This has culminated in the chapter influencing IMFO strategic thrust, to refocus its objective to thus incorporating the related professions that contributes to good governance, (Audit, Risk and Performance Management in the municipal sector). She worked in several municipalities as chief audit executive at metro, local and district level. Her contributions towards clean governance and administration in those municipalities contributed towards achievement and sustenance of unqualified audit opinions. One of the highlights in her chosen career path

was the establishment of a shared internal audit services at Central District Municipality. Through her intense love and passion for her profession, Jane single handedly introduced the Internal Audit Learnership Program in collaboration with the Institute of Internal Auditors (SA) and LGSETA, this being the first of its kind then. Jane has received several national and international awards including two merit awards from IMFO. She was also nominated for an award of Certified Fraud Examiner of the year in 2008, a prestigious international award. She served in many committees as a board member, audit committee member and chair, including being the first Regional Governor for North West Province – Institute of Internal Auditors Chapter. Jane is currently a member of several institutions including: Institute of Internal Auditors, Institute of Municipal Finance, Association of Certified Fraud Examiners (Local and International Chapters) and Institute of Local Government Management and compliance institute SA. Jane has delivered several papers at various conferences locally and internationally including the recent 9th Audit Risk Governance Conferences in Livingstone Zambia.

SEDIBENG. - As Sedibeng Ster Sport reported last week under the headline “Local teams march to Safa National Office”, local coaches, officials expressed their view that ‘enough is enough’ regarding the state of football in this region. The 25 teams’ representatives marched to Safa House Offices to submit a memorandum of their concerns to Safa President Danny Jordaan. They urged

him to intervene and demand immediate disbandment of the executive committee. Sedibeng Ster Sport has learned that Safa National Office has already summoned Safa Sedibeng President Xolani Mtumtum together with his executive committee members to answer the allegations stated at the bottom. The three-page memorandum submitted to Safa National Offices reads: •Lack of accountability from both associations •Only two AGMs have been held in four years •No incentive for teams •No junior league •No courses (administration, coaching seminars and referees) •Maladministration •We believe the suspension of the regional secretary was unconstitutional and we were

not informed •LFAs are not functional •Regional teams in the SAB League haven’t received their prizes, so therefore we request all the games be suspended in both regional and local associations because we don’t have confidence in our region. “Therefore we recommend that the regional executive committee be disbanded with immediate effect, because we don’t have confidence in them and they have failed to do their task. Please find attached list of attendance-register from association members. “We are looking forward to your response within seven days. “ Hoping that this matter will speedily reach your highest consideration.” The threepage memorandum was signed by 20 local soccer teams before it was received by Safa President Danny Jordaan’s office.

VANDERBIJLPARK. - It was ‘goals galore’ when the 2014 MCS Sedibeng Tournament took place at the Shakespeare Stadium over the weekend. This is one tournament that gives the local youngsters an opportunity to play in better conditions and gives them a platform on which to compete against the best. This year’s tournament saw the teams increase from 16 to 20 in both the u/13s and u/15s. According to tournament coordinator Sello Tshabalala they were forced to increase the numbers participating by the demand of the teams. As expected it was raining goals with some teams scoring nine goals while another five goals made the tournament interesting. Speaking to Sedibeng Ster Sports, Tshabalala says the tournament is growing, and this is why they increased the number of the teams. “We did not want to leave any team behind because they badly wanted to be part of this tournament and I can’t blame them. “ MCS is one of the biggest junior soccer tournaments in this region. It was such an unbelievable feeling to see these youngsters enjoying themselves in the much better conditions,” says Tshabalala. The u/13 teams that qualified for the last eight are: Nale Academy, Vaal Milano, Juventus, Benfica, Celta Vigo, Evaton Barcelona, Bophelong Barcelona and Dortmond. The four u/15 teams that already qualified for the last eight are: Nale Academy, Ikageng Dev FC, Vaal Development FC and Bophelong Milano. Meanwhile, the u/17 event will take place at the same venue – Shakespeare Stadium on Saturday and Sunday.

VANDERBIJLPARK. - NWU Vaal FC started their ABC Motsepe League Campaign on a low note when they lost 1-0 to PUBS FC at the George Thabe Stadium on Saturday. It was The Students’ debut in the league but many believe that there is much that needs to be done in the field of play if the NWU management wants to play in the league come next season. NWU Football Manager Thomas Thema is adamant that the team will come right. He believes that their defeat was an eye-opener for them to see where they need to improve their game. “We played very well taking into consideration that it was our first game in the league. Our boys did very well and I believe we will do much better in the next game. “I’m appealing to the Sedibeng people, coaches, administrators, to rally behind the team because it is not only about NWU Vaal but Sedibeng. “We are more than ready to listen to their advice,” he concluded.
