Navarro’s Landun Taylor makes college baseball commitment

— On Wednesday, Navarro High School senior Landun Taylor accepted an offer to play college baseball at Southeastern Baptist College.
Taylor was named to the Texas High School Coaches Association Class 4A All-State First Team as a junior in 2023. Taylor was also a First Team All-District 284A selection as an outfielder. And he was named to the Academic AllDistrict team as well last season.
This season, Taylor is tops on the Panthers with a .493 average. He also leads Navarro with 33 hits, 25 runs, seven triples and a home run.
On the mound, Taylor is 2-1 for the Panthers with a 2.03
ERA. He has pitched in five games so far this season.
A multi-sport athlete at Navarro High School, Taylor also played for the Panther football team. He was named an All-District defensive end in 2022 and 2023. Southeastern Baptist College is located in Laurel, Mississippi. The Chargers are a National Christian College Athletic Association DivisionII baseball program. Their head coach is Rafael Farrell.
Landun Taylor and the Navarro Panthers are currently in second place in District 284A with five games left in this season.
Navarro will play at third place Cuero on Friday.

Binyard
Patsy A. “Pat” Harborth, age 72 of Boerne, formerly of Seguin/Geronimo, passed away on March 21, 2024. Pat was born in Seguin, Texas on February 5, 1952, to Norma (Bose) and Marvin Harborth. She was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in San Antonio.
Pat retired after 32 years of service with the University of Texas at San Antonio Police Department. During her career, she will be remembered as the founding and active member of the Roadrunner Cat Coalition at
UTSA. She was also an active member of a sorority, Texas Preceptor Alpha Kappa Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi.
Pat is preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, Lucille Harborth, and brothers, Daniel Harborth and Melvin Harborth.
Survivors include her sister, Shirley Hayden, and husband Tom; sister-inlaw, Nelda Harborth; special cousin, Rick Harborth; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving family members, many friends, and numerous fur babies.
A memorial service is being planned for a later date.

Joan “Nan” Morley, age 89 of Seguin, passed away on April 10, 2024. Nan was born on September 19, 1934, in Bonne Terre, Missouri to Beulah (Asbridge) and Raymond Bess.

Martha Lucille Harrelson Jandt, age 94 of Seguin, passed away on April 9, 2024. Martha was born on October 30, 1929, in Horry County, South Carolina to Ruth (Graham) and Coy Harrelson.
Martha will be remembered as a lifelong teacher educating many children to their success. She enjoyed gardening and raising cattle. She was a member of the American Legion H U Wood Post 245 Auxiliary and the Seguin Sunset Lions Club. Martha and Robert were members of Emanuel’s Lutheran Church for many years.
Martha is preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Robert “Bob” Alvin Jandt, Maj., USAF (Ret.), her parents, her brother, Bruce Harrelson, sister, Evelyn Harrelson Marsh, and her

Biden Condemns AZ Supreme Court Ruling On Abortion (Washington, DC) -- The Biden administration is condemning the Arizona Supreme Court’s ruling upholding a near-total ban on abortion. White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said the ruling is a direct result of the end of Roe v. Wade. President Biden in a statement said Republicans are “committed to ripping away women’s freedom.” The 1864 law, from when Arizona was still a U.S. territory, bans all abortions except for risk to the mother. The decision comes a day after Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump said abortion should be left up to the individual states.
NAIA Bans Transgender Women From Competing In Women’s Sports (Kansas City, MO) -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics is banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports. The move makes it the first major college sports governing body in the U.S. to do so. Only students athletes whose assigned sex at birth is female will be able to compete following a 20-to-nothing vote in favor by The organization’s Council of Presidents. The NAIA makes up over 80-thousand athletes at primarily smaller colleges.
California Launches Campaign to Battle Alzheimer’s (San Diego, CA) -- California is launching a campaign to battle Alzheimer’s. The California Department of Public Health says this is a push to boost awareness for brain health and break barriers of fear. The statewide campaign is called “Take on Alzheimer’s.” Doctors are hoping to spark conversations within families and with medical professionals. Dr. Lucia Abascal says Alzheimer’s is currently the third leading cause of death in the California and expected to increase. Consumer Reports Calls For Lunchables To Be Removed From School Menus
(Washington, DC) -- There’s a push to kick Lunchables off school menus. Consumer Reports issued a warning Tuesday saying the school cafeteria version of the popular lunch snack contains too much sodium. Last year, Lunchables developed two new versions of the cheese, meat and cracker snacks especially for school lunch programs. Consumer Reports says the turkey and cheddar school-lunch versions contained nearly 200 more milligrams of sodium than the store-bought Lunchables. The nonprofit group says it’s petitioning the USDA to remove the snacks from school cafeterias.
