KWED Freedom Fiesta Dockets resume today at Seguin Municipal Court plans announced (Seguin) -- Seguin Municipal Court is now back in session, and along with it will be strict guidelines and regulations to ensure the health, safety and well-being of both citizens and court staff. These restrictions and precautions are in compliance with the Emergency Orders issued by the Supreme Court of Texas and the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. Beginning today, the court will resume dockets by appointment only. Due to space limitations, no jury trials are being held at this time, and there are no open sessions until further notice. Dockets will resume with the following restrictions: • All individuals entering the court building will be required to wear face coverings at all times. If you do not have a face covering, please contact the court and a disposable mask will be provided for you. • To protect security screeners - no purses, bags or backpacks will be allowed. Bring

Freedom Fiesta, sponsored by KWED, is scheduled for 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, July 2 in Central Park. Due to the governor's COVID-19 restrictions, Freedom Fiesta is being modified, and it will be less of a festival, and more like a concert in the park. Clint Taft and the Buck Wild Band will be providing the music for the event, which will mark the first time that the community will have a chance to publicly come together since the start of the shut downs related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Freedom Fiesta is a free event. People will be asked to stretch out across the park, and practice social distancing. This means individuals will have to stay six-feet away from people who are not part of your household. There will be no game or food booths this year, and the streets this year will remain open during Freedom Fiesta. A handful of food trucks are being invited to help provide food for those who want to dine, while they enjoy the music and the night in the park. Sponsorships are now being sold to help cover the costs of the event. If you'd like to help sponsor Freedom Fiesta, call 830-3792234 or email Darren Dunn at darren@kwed1580.com. The city of Seguin’s annual fireworks show and parade will also go on as previously planned. The fireworks will be held at 9:30 p.m. Friday, July 3 in Max Starcke Park followed by the parade at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 4 in downtown Seguin.

If you are not available at the scheduled time, contact the court for a new time slot. • All persons not from the same household who are in the court building will be required to maintain social distancing of at least 6 feet. • Space is limited in the courtroom. Individuals planning to bring someone with them to court should contact the court prior to their appearance date to guarantee available seating. • Members of the public wanting to view court proceedings should contact the Municipal Court to ensure the maximum capacity in the court room is not exceeded. Drug investigation helps take down individuals in smaller communities surrounding Guadalupe County By Cindy Aguirre-Herrera

(Seguin) -- Seguin and Guadalupe County are expected to feel the impact of Operation Torch, a narcotics sting operation launched by their neighbors to the southeast. The operation which began in January was recently executed by the Nixon Police Department and The Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division (CID). The operation culminated last week with the roundup of several individuals by multiple law enforcement agencies. Officers served numerous arrests warrants in the Nixon, Pandora, Stockdale and Smiley areas. Nixon Police Chief Chris Aviles says Operation Torch began as a local

impact investigation targeting methamphetamine distributors in Nixon. He says this initial investigation then quickly evolved into a longterm drug network of distributors. "We came across a lot of

community concerns and information that was being given to us via several concerned citizens. They basically came out and told me that one of the many concerns they had was street level narcotics and drugs just saturated in neighborhoods and they were sick and tired of it. We've got a good

team now. We have a team of seven officers now and I decided to put a narcotics unit together and we took this thing full frontal attack and it's culminated in having 15 warrants issued for 15 people," said Aviles. Aviles says the investigation targeted the sale and distribution

activities of crystal methamphetamine in the local and greater Gonzales and Wilson County areas. "The benefit is we actually have some individuals that were suspected of thievery in Guadalupe County so we were always in communication with the Guadalupe County Sheriff's (Office) the Auto Task Force and what we found out was that some of those vehicles that were being stolen in Seguin were directly correlated to the drug use down over here in Wilson County, the Stockdale and Nixon area so it affected Guadalupe County whether people knew it or out because we ended up discovering and recovering stolen vehicles in the eastern part of Wilson County where a lot of those drug users and suppliers were being located at," said Aviles. Narcotics sting operation launched in Nixon helps recover stolen property in Guadalupe County NIXON, continued from page 2 He says the investigation unveiled what they call small time suppliers working among the long-term and bigger drug network of distributors. He says these efforts worked to disrupt the distribution of narcotics coming into the area from the Austin and Houston areas. Now because drugs and drug dealers have no boundaries, Operation Torch helped to uncover more than just illegal narcotic activity. He says not

only did it put a dent in the drugs coming into the area but stolen property from Guadalupe County was recovered. "The benefit is we actually have some individuals that were suspected of thievery in Guadalupe County so we were always in communication with the Guadalupe County Sheriff's (Office) the Auto Task Force and what we found out was that some of those vehicles that were being stolen in Seguin were directly correlated to the drug use down over here in Wilson County, the Stockdale and Nixon area so it

The Strike Force consisting of the Nixon Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division, Stockdale City Marshal's Office and the Wilson County Sheriff's Office successfully arrested 11 individuals. Four additional arrests warrants are currently at-large.
