Seguin boys force play-in game; Marion

TLU Men’s Soccer Announces 2024 Schedule

SEGUIN, Texas -- Texas Lutheran men’s soccer has announced its 2024 fall schedule featuring a 16-match slate and 11 conference matchups on Thursday.

Under the direction of head coach Eddie Salazar in his 19th season, the Bulldogs will open their season with a home match against the 2023 American Southwest Conference Tournament champion UT-Dallas Comets on Friday, Aug. 30 at Gustafson Field.

The team will return to Gustafson Field Sunday, Sept. 1 to match up against the 2023 American Southwest Conference regular season champion Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders. Texas Lutheran will then travel to Ohio to face Capital (Sept. 6) and Otterbein (Sept. 8) before traveling to Hardin-Simmons (Sept. 13) to conclude nonconference play.

The Bulldogs will kick off SCAC play at Southwestern on (Sept. 27) and at Dallas (Oct. 4). The team will ten host Austin College in their conference home opener on Sunday, Oct. 6.

TLU will travel to Trinity (Oct. 11) and Schreiner (Oct. 13) before returning to Seguin to host St. Thomas (Oct. 18) and Colorado College (Oct. 20). TLU’s final regular season road trip will feature matches at new SCAC member Ozarks (AR) (Oct. 25) and Centenary (Oct. 27).

Texas Lutheran will return home against new conference foe, McMurry, on Friday, Nov. 1 before hosting Concordia (TX), who will also be in their first season in the SCAC, for their regular season finale on Sunday, Nov. 3.

Before the regular season begins, Texas Lutheran will play a pair of exhibition matches at home in August. The Bulldogs will square off against Houston-Victoria on Thursday, Aug. 22 before hosting Our Lady of the Lake on Monday, Aug. 26.

In total, Texas Lutheran will face five teams who made appearances in the 2023 NCAA Division-III Men’s Soccer Tournament in UTDallas, Otterbein, Trinity, St. Thomas, and Colorado College.

The Bulldogs finished the 2023 season 14-3 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC. The Bulldogs secured the best finish in program history by winning percentage with the 14-3 record (.824) while the 14 wins matched the second most in a single-season in program history. Texas Lutheran earned a national ranking for the first time in program history last season reaching as high as number 16 in the country. Texas Lutheran will be led by All-American midfielder Jack Manke (Houston/Stratford) and All-Region defender Diego Roman (Houston/Lamar) in addition to the eight additional All-SCAC honorees returning for the Bulldogs.

Bedrich George “Benny” Klekar, Jr. of Seguin, passed away June 27, 2024. He was born January 1, 1943, in Shiner, Texas to Bedrich, Sr. and Ludmilla (Randuch) Klekar.

Benny is preceded in death by his parents; son, Bryan Douglas Klekar and in-laws; Mansvet and Rosie “Billeck” Vana.

He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Rose Marie Klekar; son, Robert Klekar and wife Heather; daughter, Robbin Koehler and husband Dean; grandchildren, Bryan Graham Klekar, Harrison Graham Klekar, Douglas Alden Klekar,

Matthew Benjamin Koehler, and Abigail Rose Koehler; sister-inlaw, Doris Volek; nieces, Jeanette Johnston and husband Ron and Brenda Kurtz; several great-nieces, great-nephews, cousins, other loving family members and a host of friends.

Tim Sternberger officiating. Burial will take place Friday, July 5, 2024 at 10:00 a.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery in Flatonia, Texas with Pastor Emmanuel Carpenter officiating. SCOTUS Acknowledges Document In Pending Abortion Case Accidentally Posted

(Washington, DC) -- The Supreme Court may be on course to allow emergency abortions based on a document accidentally posted online. That’s according to Bloomberg News, which on Wednesday obtained the document relating to a pending Idaho abortion case. The document reportedly shows that the court will allow emergency room doctors in Idaho to perform abortions. The High Court is likely to dismiss the appeal that was brought by Idaho officials. A Supreme Court spokeswoman confirmed a document was inadvertently uploaded but said the ruling “has not been released.” It could be part of a group of decisions meant to be officially released this week.

Study: Landfills Burp Out Toxic Forever Chemicals

(Washington, DC) -- Landfills in the U.S. are spewing toxic “forever chemicals” into the air. That’s according to a new study published in Environmental Science & Technology Letters. Scientists measured high levels of airborne substances at three dumps surveyed, showing how the chemicals are able to escape landfills into the environment. Some of those synthetic compounds are linked to various cancers and illnesses.

FDA Issues Nationwide Recall Of Nearly 70 Ice Cream Products

(Washington, DC) -- The FDA is recalling a lot of all ice cream products over possible listeria contamination. The recall covers 68 products across 13 brands, including Jeni’s, Hershey’s Ice Cream and Dolcezza Gelato. The FDA said the products could be contaminated and cause severe and sometimes fatal infections. There have been reports of illness related to the recalled ice cream products.

Study: Loneliness Impacts Stroke Risk

(Cambridge, MA) -- Loneliness could impact your risk of having a stroke. A new study shows that older adults who reported being chronically lonely had a 56-percent higher stroke risk than those who rated their loneliness low. The lead study author at Harvard noted the importance of assessing loneliness, and said “consequences may be worse if ignored.”

FEMA Disaster Recovery Center

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has established a Disaster Recovery Center at the Redwood Community Center, located at 2045 Spruce St. in San Marcos for Guadalupe County residents affected by the May 9 weather event. The Biggest Small-Town Fourth of July Parade in Texas will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 4 along Austin St. in downtown Seguin. The parade route begins at the intersection of Austin and College Streets and ends at the Seguin Coliseum, with all entries traveling south along Austin St. Parade attendees are asked not to block parade route sidewalks with chairs and other items until the morning of the event. To allow for the best parade viewing experience, drivers are asked to not park along the parade route, which includes Austin St. from East Weinert St. to Nelda St.

Elk Lodge 4th of July Pool Party and Cookout
