Seguin ISD fills vacancy on school board Cindy Aguirre-Herrera

Tricks plus plenty of special treats Despite the changes in the weather, local groups, churches, and businesses, just like the one here at Faith Lutheran Church, hosted a plethora of Halloween fun especially over the long holiday weekend. Faith Lutheran Church was among those who pushed up the time for its annual Trunk-or-Treat – hoping to stay ahead of the cold front and rain that pushed into the area Sunday afternoon.

(Seguin) -- The Seguin ISD has welcomed the newest member to its board of trustees. Former educator Grace Mueller was appointed to the District 3 position during Monday night’s board meeting. Mueller replaces longtime trustee and former Board President Cinde Thomas-Jimenez who resigned this past summer after moving out of state. Mueller was one of three individuals who submitted their application for consideration. Current Board President Alejandro Guerra says Mueller fills the seat bringing years of experience and knowledge to the district. “Grace Mueller is retired from San Marcos ISD where she spent 30 years, 19 years as a special ed teacher, 11 years as an 8th ELA teacher. She served as a Region 13 trainer for other districts. She is also a member of the Texas Classroom Teachers Association and served as president of the local chapter and legislative chair for the state and president of the

I think I bring a different outlook and perspective to the board because I have past years of being a teacher. So, I am a proponent and an advocate for teachers and students to the highest degree, so I am glad to be able to be on the board and keep that up. I should be very easy to contact because I’m retired so I’m pretty easy to get a hold of but I want to probably get a little bit more information about the school and the kids and the parents and attend a whole lot more things than I have in the past so I think that’s one of the things I’m going to start with is get familiar with the school itself,” said Mueller. Mueller’s appointment, however, was not unanimous. Casting the lone dissenting vote was

Trustee Josh Bright. Bright explains his decision. “I was voting my heart today. Although I know Grace has a fantastic resume and she has been working in the education business for a long time and has a wealth of knowledge and I look forward to working with her and having her alongside us building a new Team of 8 as we move forward because now that we have 7 and obviously we will be looking for the eighth person going out for the (position) of superintendent -- however, that turns out to be -- I was looking for something different. So, that is why I voted the way I did today,” said Bright. Following the appointment by the board, Mueller was administered the oath of office and immediately took her seat on the school board. The other candidates who applied for consideration were Cheryl Schmidt and Lizeth Hernandez.

(Seguin) — Texas Lutheran returns to Bulldog Stadium this Saturday for the first of their final two home games of the season when they host the McMurry War Hawks in an American Southwest Conference battle. The Bulldogs fell on the road this past Saturday to Howard Payne. The Yellow Jackets scored a touchdown with under a minute to play to slip by the Bulldogs, 31-27. The game ended on a Bulldog incomplete pass into the endzone after TLU drove down to the Howard Payne eight yard-line. McMurry crushed Austin College 51-13 at home this past Saturday. The War Hawks are 2-3 in conference play. TLU is still looking for their conference win heading into their fifth conference match-up. The Bulldogs are 1-7 overall on the season. Despite their record, TLU head coach Neal LaHue says his team is still working hard to find ways to win games.

“We’ve been in every game except for maybe one or two and we just gotta get over the hump and finish games,” LaHue said. “And that’s just not kids, that’s coaches too. We gotta do a better job of coming up with the better pass play at the end of the game here and there. “But I’m just more than anything impressed and proud of how our kids have approached it. They don’t act like a 1-7 team. They’ve played hard every time. They’re not pointing fingers. They’re owing up and they come back to work again. And I’m excited about this week.” The Bulldogs beat the War Hawks 17-10 in Abilene last season. Saturday’s game between TLU and McMurry kicks off at 1 p.m. at Bulldog Stadium. We’ll have all the action for you on KWED. It all starts with our Bulldog pregame show at 12:30 Saturday afternoon on AM 1580 and streaming at TLUBulldogs.com.

No Love For Face Coverings (Washington, DC) -- It’s unlikely you’ll ever be forced to wear a COVID mask on an airplane again. The Senate has passed an amendment to a spending bill that bans federal funds from being used to enforce face-covering mandates on airlines, trains and buses. GOP Senator John Cornyn of Texas, who voted for the amendment, called it a victory for personal freedom. Masks can still be worn, but it’s up to the individual. It’s been nearly one-and-a-half years since a federal judge ended the Biden Administration’s mask mandate. Panera Adds Warning To Caffeinated Lemonade (Sunset Hills, MO) -- Panera Bread is adding warnings about its caffeinated lemonade following a lawsuit. Charged Lemonade contains more caffeine than a Red Bull and Monster energy drink combined. In 2022 a University of Pennsylvania student from New Jersey who had a heart condition died after drinking two of the drinks over the course of a few days. Her family filed a lawsuit against Panera, and the restaurant has now agreed to put up disclosures about the lemonades in all of their North American stores.
