SPH is celebrating 30 years of God’s goodness and mercy to the thousands of students and families whose hearts and minds have been impacted by the light of Jesus Christ through the teachers and families of the five Sekolah Pelita Harapan campuses. We also celebrate coming out of the challenges of a global pandemic. Throughout this year, students and teachers will explore our theme and how we are called to reflect and share the light of Christ in our lives, community, and beyond. More information will be provided over the next several days about our Theme Launch, 8 September, from 08:30-09:30. Dear SPH LV Parents & Friends, Traditions abound at SPH Lippo Village! This edition gives a glimpse of our students and teachers celebrating being back in person at our Opening Day Assemblies and Independence Day Ceremonies in the Junior and Senior Schools. Our students’ faces from Kindy to Grade 12 showed their excitement to join friends and teachers together with a lot of fun, laughing, playing, and thanksgiving for God’s faithfulness to us as a school family and as an independent country!

SPH LV Mom and Child is Back!
The first day of class was an introductory session filled with a lot of playtime, which allowed babies to familiarize themselves with the new environment This could be an unsettling experience for some, as it would be their first time being out of the house and out of their familiar territory. Yet it was also a unique experience for them to see and interact with other babies and other adults. It was during playtime that Mr. Ian began to observe each baby and dedicated some time getting to know their mothers. This allowed mothers to express their concerns in confidence and in return learn more about the reasons behind their baby’s specific behaviors.
We are excited to share that this year our Mom and Child class is back at our Lippo Village campus! In this class, Mr. Ian guides both parent and child to deepen their bond, as the mothers learn more about their child’s needs.
This academic year, the class runs for 2 hours, which is an extra 30 minutes compared to our usual class time length. This helps both mother and their baby to explore more activities such as playing, sounding words through pictures, learning baby sign languages, and further shaping their fine motor skills (e.g. playing with jelly).

The purpose of this welcoming assembly was to greet students during their first week back to school. It was also the perfect time for new students and teachers to be introduced to the Junior School community.

Here comes OUR FAVORITE CHARACTER, Willy!
Willy is a well known character in the Junior School community where he made students learn the proper school regulations by portraying the wrong ones himself. The students got the chance to correct Willy during the assembly and showed him the appropriate rules From wearing the correct attire of SPH Junior School students to not crossing the yellow lines unless the teachers say so, our students did not hesitate to tell Willy right from wrong!
On the 12th of August, our Junior School held its first on site welcoming school assembly! It was an incredible moment for Junior School students as they gathered together in Gym 1 for a 30 minute fellowship filled with worship and dancing!
Not only that, Ibu Yuni, our Junior School principal, also welcomed a special guest to this assembly and his name was none other than…Willy!

When it comes to the Senior School Assembly, there is only one word to describe it: explosive! Why is that you might ask? Well, it is when we get to truly see the SPH students' spirit and enthusiasm in the beginning of the academic year.
Senior School Assembly 2022
Unlike the Junior School assembly, our Senior School assembly was led by the Student Council. It was also an excellent opportunity to introduce the executive team and the committees that define the student body of SPH. Student Council, or StuCo in short, is an integral part of our SPH LV community, whose purpose is to build an interconnected student body that reflects Godly character through meaningful student experiences and interactions. It is also their responsibility to promote a sense of unity and belonging through inclusive experiences within the school events.
The purpose of having an assembly is to gather all grade 7-12 students and increase their school spirit during the first week of school. This involves a competitive cheering session from each grade level during the first few minutes of the assembly, followed by fun games directed by our Student Council.

After the ceremony, it has become our school’s tradition to celebrate the post flag ceremony with some games!
Merdeka! Merdeka!
Junior School students celebrated this monumental event through singing, dancing, and playing some Indonesian games! Meanwhile, our Senior School students participated in their first house team competitions for this academic year. Our Gym 2 was filled with roaring cheers and laughter from each house team as they rooted for their team. From jumping with a sack to playing the fiercest game of tug of war, each of the house teams never backed down!
No words could describe how blessed we were to be able to celebrate Independence Day on our LV campus after two years. Both Junior School and Senior School held their own flag ceremony first thing in the morning. It was endearing to see both the junior and senior' flag bearer team handled the ceremony with ease. In addition, Ibu Ratna, our Junior School master of ceremony, also gave an important speech about this year's 77th Independence day’s theme on how we must recover faster and rise stronger. Most importantly, Ibu Ratna encouraged the students to never ever give up!

The very nature of school often tempts us to focus primarily on student performance and grades. Teachers fear for students that might fall behind. Parents fear that their children might miss future opportunities. Children might feel shame if they realize they are not doing as well as their peers.
Ultimately, we all must recognize that we are created in the image of God and our worth goes well beyond how we might perform in school or at our jobs. In the Student Services department, we take student growth seriously and we want to support our students by providing services that focus on skill areas that might not traditionally be taught in the classroom. While all educators have a part to play in skill development for our students, the hope is that Student Services can help fill in the gaps where they might arise. In alignment with the SPH Expected Outcomes, we are called to help our students become flourishing learners who are equipped to fulfill their role as God’s image bearers
