Message from the Head of School

Dear LV Parents & Students,

Welcome to the 2023-2024

Academic Year! We are so glad that you are part of our growing community. We look forward to connecting with each of you. I have greatly enjoyed seeing all the smiling faces and watching our school family together again.

Parents, I hope you have been able to attend your son’s or daughter’s grade level meetings to meet the outstanding teachers and leaders our faithful Heavenly Father has brought to LV We are blessed with a great group of dedicated educators committed to your child’s growth and development spiritually, academically, emotionally, socially, and physically. We anticipate challenging and stretching your child as we support and encourage growth in his or her unique, God given talents.

A favorite Bible passage of mine is Matthew 6. Verses 25-34 remind us of how God cares for us. How He provides all we need, especially in times of uncertainty and challenge.

The start of a new year may bring anxious thoughts for parents as we hope for our student’s success, connection, and growth in becoming all God has made each to be.

Students, old and new, deal with anxious thoughts about honoring parents and their family hoping their best can measure up. They seek to understand themselves and build connections with their teachers and peers among the busyness and demands of a rigorous and fast paced academic environment. At times it can be overwhelming! The promise of Matthew is that God cares for each need, no matter how big or small, as we seek His Kingdom and righteousness. May each of us claim His promise as we face the opportunities and challenges of the 2023-2024 school year.

Because He is Faithful, GreggThompson Head of School

Noun adventurers with first graders

Grade 1 Classroom Activity

This month, our first grade students are embarking on an exciting journey into the world of nouns, guided by our dedicated teachers. To foster a strong grasp of nouns, our teachers have crafted an engaging activity known as the "Noun Hunt."

Nouns, those essential words that name people, places, things, and ideas, are crucial for effective communication. The "Noun Hunt" is designed to make learning about nouns fun and interactive. Students armed with storybooks set off on a mission to uncover nouns hidden within the text and categorize them correctly.

The adventure unfolds within collaborative groups, allowing students to develop teamwork and communication skills. This cooperative approach not only deepens their understanding but also turns grammar into an exciting puzzle-solving game. They debate over whether certain words are nouns, discovering that grammar can be a lively discussion topic.

What sets this activity apart is its ability to transform grammar into a reallife adventure. Students learn that nouns are not abstract concepts but the keys to storytelling. This newfound understanding empowers them to create their own tales and adventures.

As they immerse themselves in this linguistic journey, students realize that nouns are all around them, shaping their language. The "Noun Hunt" is not just a grammar exercise; it's a doorway to fostering collaboration, communication, and a genuine love for learning. These young explorers are unlocking the magic of nouns while setting the stage for a lifetime of curiosity and discovery.

You belong, you matter

MYP New Initiative 2023

We’ve always believed in the power of community and the beauty of unity. As we embark on another year of learning and growing together, our Middle Years Program (MYP) teachers started the "You Belong, You Matter" initiative, which takes center stage, reminding us of our shared responsibility to foster an environment where every individual knows they belong and that they truly matter.

Our teachers start from a simple yet profound belief: that we are all created in God's image, bound by our innate need for connection and fellowship. No one should ever feel left out or disconnected. It's this understanding that has led us to envision SPH as more than just a school— it's a second home.

The "You Belong, You Matter" initiative isn't just a slogan it's a guiding principle. We encourage each member of our SPH family to reach out and build bridges of friendship. It's about practicing the golden rule: "Do unto others as you would like them to do unto you."

Our students have taken this theme to heart and are expressing it creatively, integrating Approach to Learning skills like Communication, Thinking, Research, and Collaboration. From heartwarming jingles to powerful visual art representations, they are showcasing the significance of belonging in various forms.

My homeland, indonesia

Celebrating Indonesia's Independence Day

Each year, there's a special buzz in the air at our beloved school - the anticipation of Indonesia's Independence Day celebration! This event holds a cherished place in our hearts, and our enthusiasm for commemorating this significant day only grows stronger.

What makes this day truly exceptional is how it unites us in celebrating the vibrant culture and rich history of Indonesia. One of the highlights is the spirited participation in traditional Indonesian games, a moment where our international students get a unique window into the colorful tapestry of our country's heritage.

This year, we have the distinct honor of welcoming back an alumnus who embodies the spirit of progress and dedication. Michael Sianipar, a proud graduate from the Class of 2007, has gracefully accepted our invitation to be our guest speaker. Michael's journey has taken him to remarkable heights as the Head of the Central Executive Board (DPP) for Creative and Digital Economy, Chairperson of @id.youthdiplomacy, and Director of Political Patra Government Relations.

In his inspiring message, Michael emphasizes the importance of our students, the future of Indonesia. He encourages them to reflect on their role in shaping the destiny of our nation. This is a time for our young generation to broaden their horizons, nurture their vision, and set their sights on a brighter future for Indonesia.

So, as we gear up for another memorable Independence Day celebration, let's remember the significance of this occasion and the values it imparts. Together, as a united SPH LV family, we look forward to celebrating Indonesia's Independence Day with unwavering joy and pride.
