What's On in SPH Lippo Village

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Romans 12:9-10

Dear SPH Family and Friends,

February and the celebration of Valentine’s Day generates a lot of interest and conversation on the topic of love: God’s amazing love and kindness. His faithfulness, grace, and mercy. Family love –love for our parents, siblings, grandparents and extended family. The appreciation for friendship and relationships God has blessed us with. The care and investment our teachers share with us as we learn and grow. The love for those around us and a heart for service. The preceding verses in Romans 12 speak of the body of Christ and the gracious and varied gifting of God, given so that we might serve one another, using our gifts for the good of our community.

Throughout the school year and particularly during this past month many teachable moments focused on how God has blessed us with a community focused on knowing Him and making Him known. I trust you will be blessed as you read these reflections and thank our Good Shepherd and loving Heavenly Father for allowing us to be part of the SPH Family.

Because He is faithful, GreggThompson Head of School

I love you, mom and dad!

K1 Classroom Activity

Love was in the air at SPH LV as our K1 teachers organized a heartwarming event that brought parents and children together. From handmade gifts to delicious food and fun games, it was a day filled with laughter and bonding.

The excitement was palpable as students put their creative skills to the test, making heartfelt gifts such as handwritten notes and paper bouquets for their parents. Parents also prepared a variety of delicious food and drinks, such as Yakult, milk, pudding, and pasta, which were all-time favorites of their children.

Once everyone was well-fed and happy, it was time for some fun and games! Our teachers organized several games that brought out the competitive spirit in both kids and parents. One game, in particular, had parents picking up their little ones from the floor whenever a video called out "lava." You can imagine the laughter that ensued!

Through this special event, our K1 teachers aimed to remind everyone of the importance of family, love, and community. At SPH LV, we believe that God has given us the gift of family, and it's important to cherish and strengthen those bonds. We hope that the experience left a lasting impression on everyone, and that we all continue to strengthen our relationships with our families and community.

100 days of school

Kindy Classroom Activity

Embark on a celebration of learning and growth with our Kindy students as they commemorate the 100th day of learning!

The celebration starts with the students learning how to count up to 100 and working together in groups to decorate their special 100-day hat, which helps to develop their teamwork skills.

This celebration of learning and growth acknowledges the role of God in the students' journey and highlights His faithfulness throughout their lives. It serves as a reminder that every milestone and achievement in life is a blessing from God and that we should always give thanks for His guidance and blessings. By instilling these values in our Kindy students, we hope to nurture them into becoming responsible and faithful individuals who lead a fulfilling life in God's path.

A Journey of learning & appreciation

PAG Chinese New Year Activity

To close the vibrant Chinese New Year event this year, our Parents Advisory Group (PAG) held a small activity where they introduced various Chinese food and culture to students. The purpose of this activity is to broaden our students' knowledge about other people and the world, while also highlighting the values of diversity and respect.

As Christians, we believe that every individual is created in God’s image and culture often reflects God’s creativity and beauty. By learning about other cultures, we can better appreciate the diverse ways in which God reveals Himself to us.

PAG provided various food options that students could enjoy, including dumplings, basket cake, spring rolls, and fragrant Chinese tea. In addition to the food, PAG also decorated the main lobby in SPH to the 12 different Chinese zodiacs that range from pig, dragon to rabbit. These decorations aim to educate the students about the Chinese culture and beliefs, which helps to widen their perspectives about Chinese culture.

Overall, this activity was a wonderful opportunity for our students to learn about Chinese culture while also celebrating the diversity of God's creation. We hope that this event has sparked a curiosity and appreciation for other cultures in our students,

Let hope arise

Grade 8 Mission Service Learning

Get ready to be inspired by the story of our grade 8 students as they embark on a unique Mission Service Learning with the theme “Let Hope Arise”. In this special project, they are collaborating with students from our sister school, Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH). Our students created a new game along with a manual, and decided to share it with other communities, such as SLH, so that they could enjoy and benefit from it as well

Not only are our students learning new skills and knowledge through this project, but they are also practising humility and open-mindedness in order to learn from others. By working with people of different backgrounds, they are learning to respect other people's ideas and perspectives, work effectively in a team to achieve a common goal, and much more.

This year's Mission Service Learning is particularly special because it ties in with our school's academic year theme of "Arise, Shine". Through this project, our grade 8 students are learning to be faithful disciples, confident communicators, world changers, and flourishing learners. They are also applying the SPH Expected Learning Outcomes into their lives and the wider communities.

In a time where the pandemic has pushed people to be more isolated, this Mission Service Learning provides an opportunity for our students to come together and create something meaningful. It is hoped that this project will not only bless the communities that receive the new game but also help our students to understand that no matter how many challenges they face, they have the true anchor in Jesus Christ, who will enable them to move forward with hope and joy.

Eagles Goes To Taiwan and Thailand!

ACSC Basketball Tournament

Last week, the SPH Eagles basketball teams participated in the ACSC Basketball Tournaments held in Thailand and Taiwan. The tournament, organized by the Asia Christian School Conference, aim to strengthen connections and relationships between international Christian schools while providing opportunities for students to explore new experiences through sports.

The basketball tournament saw the participation of both boys and girls teams from SPH. Aside from playing against other schools, the tournament also gave the students a chance to engage in several Mission Service Learning activities in both Thailand and Taiwan. These activities included teaching basketball to underprivileged communities and volunteering in an English center, where students sorted books, painted walls, cleaned windows, cooked, and more.

The tournaments were a valuable experience for the SPH Eagles as they improved their skills and leadership abilities while developing their servant hearts. Participating in such events helps students broaden their perspectives, learn new things, and create meaningful connections with other students from diverse backgrounds. The tournament provided a platform for our students to showcase their talents and represent their school, while also learning about and appreciating the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect.

High School Survival Guide: Going Strong into the Second Semester

For students worldwide, one thing is clear, the second semester is here, and their very first homework is getting over the holiday high. For older students, the challenge is to fight the alluring call to stay in bed all day –especially if they are reminded of all the upcoming assignments and projects due in several weeks.

Kicking motivation and focus back into gear can be a struggle, but plenty of students (and teachers) everywhere have gone through the same phase. Check out some of their advice on how to survive and thrive in the second semester of high school!
