What's On in SPH Lippo Village

Dear Parents and Friends,

One of the great joys as an educator is to participate in the growth of children from Kindy through Grade 12.

The feature stories in this issue provide a glimpse of some of the growth stages we are part of: preparing a garden to plant seeds and watch them grow, creating beautiful things as we study other cultures and enjoy the gift of creativity given to us by our Creator God, and looking to the future as our future DP Students work with teachers and parents to consider the gifts God has blessed them with and how to focus their learning as they prepare for university studies in LV’s Diploma Programme.

It's a privilege and blessing to partner with our parents over their child’s years at LV. Throughout we pray each student encounters the love and faithfulness of our Creator God and that each develops a heart that desires to honor and serve Him.

Because He is faithful, GreggThompson Head of School

We plant, We Nurture, and They Grow!

Kindy Classroom Activity

As part of the IB Unit of Inquiry: Sharing the Planet, our K2 students are currently learning about the different parts of a plant, how to take care of them, and the benefits they provide. To enhance their understanding, the Kindy teachers invited Pak Adis, a gardener at SPH LV, to serve as a guest speaker. This approach allows students to connect their classroom learning with real-life experiences, making the material more engaging and relevant. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for students to practice their social skills by listening attentively and asking questions.

During the guest speaker session, students had the opportunity to plant chilli and tomato seeds alongside Pak Adis. This hands-on activity not only reinforced their understanding of plant growth but also served as a reminder of their role as stewards of God's creation. It emphasizes the importance of taking care of the earth, including the plants that provide us with food, materials for shelter, enjoyment, and fresh air to breathe. Overall, this activity reinforced the idea that God has a purpose for every living thing He has created, and it is our responsibility to take care of them.

新年

快乐

Chinese New Year is a time of celebration and tradition, and one of the most exciting activities to take part in is paper cutting. Imagine the thrill of taking a piece of paper and transforming it into a work of art, with intricate designs and characters that tell a story. For our students, this activity was not just a task to complete, it was an opportunity to tap into their creativity and problem solving skills.

Paper cutting is a delicate art that requires precision, patience and a steady hand. Our students embraced the challenge and pushed themselves to achieve their best work. They encountered obstacles and made mistakes along the way, but instead of giving up, they learned to be resourceful, think outside the box and find solutions to problems. As they persevered, they not only developed their paper cutting skills, but also grew in confidence and ability.

This activity was not just about learning about Chinese culture and tradition, it was also about discovering the beauty and wisdom of God's creation. It was an experience that our students will remember and cherish forever. We are proud to have been a part of their journey of learning and growth.

Our Grade 7’s Chinese Class Learned About Chinese New Year !
But the true beauty of this activity was in the characters they chose to create. Each student was encouraged to select a Chinese character that resonated with them and reflect on its meaning. As they delved deeper into the symbolism and stories behind the characters, they were amazed to discover that many had connections to Bible stories. For instance, the character for Spring ( 春 ) not only represents the season but also the idea of new beginnings, just as the Bible teaches us. And the character for blessing ( 福 ) is a powerful illustration of the idea of being one with God, as Adam was in the Garden of Eden.

Discover Your Path to Success

The IB DP Fair 2023

Each year, the IB DP Fair is held at SPH LV to provide current grade 10 students with the opportunity to learn more about the IB DP Subject Selection process. This event is an essential step in the decision-making process for students as they select the subjects they will study in the Diploma Program. During the fair, students and their parents have the opportunity to meet with teachers from various subjects and ask questions to gain a deeper understanding of the subjects that interest them.

The DP Fair is important because it ensures that families are well-informed about their subject choices, providing an excellent opportunity for students to learn about fascinating, challenging, and well-rounded subjects that align with their interests and goals. Our teachers are committed to the personal and professional development of our students, and the DP Fair gives students the chance to gain insight and perspective from subject teachers, as well as to think critically and make thoughtful decisions about their subject choices.

At SPH Lippo Village, our goal is to inspire students to view the world differently, to discover their life purpose, and to develop the skills and abilities that God has bestowed upon them. The DP Fair is one of the many ways we strive to achieve this goal, encouraging students to take risks, to be vocal, and to be intellectually stimulated.

The World

As

It

Is: Strange, Difficult, and Beautiful Grade 12 Biblical Studies Elective

For our grade 12 students, the Biblical Studies program offers a variety of elective options based on individual interests. One of the electives being offered this term is "The World As It Is: Strange, Difficult, and Beautiful" taught by Mr. Gavin, an alum from the Class of 2017.

Often, we tend to view Scripture as an ancient text without fully understanding its context and significance in the modern world. This elective aims to change that perspective by exploring the rich, alien, and fascinating depths of the Scriptures. The class will delve into topics such as ancient creation myths, sacred art, the problem of evil, and more, with a survey of classical apologetics in one session and a Q&A in the final session.

At SPH Lippo Village, we place a strong emphasis on Biblical Studies as it equips our students with the knowledge, faith, and character to live according to God's teachings. Our classes provide a safe space for students to question, think, and discuss their beliefs and experiences with their peers. Whether they are questioning their faith, are new to Christianity, or have grown up in a Christian family, our Biblical Studies program aims to provide an environment for students to grow in their faith and ultimately become witnesses of Jesus Christ in the world.
