What's On
Vol Vol #7 #3 June Feb 2022 2022
in SPH Lippo Village Dear Parents & Friends, The last few days of school, schools across the globe hold special ceremonies recognizing students for their successful completion of their stages of learning. The purpose of these celebrations is to join with parents in honoring the work and growth of their sons and daughters. Together we recognize and reflect on each child’s completed ‘milestone’ in their learning journey and encourage them as they embark on the next steps in their growth and development. In this issue of “What’s On in SPH Lippo Village” we share some of the memories of this year’s events at LV.
I remember these celebration days for my own children with a tremendous sense of pride and great appreciation and gratitude for the teachers, coaches, and mentors who invested in their lives. As I attended LV’s Celebrations, I reflected on how quickly time slips away! The 18 or so years our Lord gives parents to invest directly in our child’s life flies by. Thank you for choosing SPH to partner with you in making a lasting investment in your child’s life. It is a privilege to join with you in building a solid foundation of learning, faith, and godly character. The years fly by all too quickly! May God bless our biblically based educational partnership as a wonderful ‘second home’ for all our SPH children.
I’ve personally attended well over one hundred year-end ‘graduation’ events as an educator. From kindergarten to graduate school, it is always a joy to see moms and dads with huge smiles on their faces as their children walk across the stage and when their child is honored for excellent work, often followed by tears flowing, as our ‘babies’ grow up.
Because He is faithful, Gregg Thompson Head of School SPH Lippo Village

K3 End of Year Celebration A Day to Remember for Our Kindy Students Earlier in June, our K3 students celebrated completing their final stage in Kindy. During the celebration event the bright faces of our K3 students and their families were clearly seen. On their last day as K3 students, they performed various songs and dances. A part of what made this event special was when each of the students gave their parents flowers to show their appreciation and thankfulness for the care and support they received from home. This intimate moment was filled with wide smiles, happy tears, and words full of encouragement. Seeing how much they have grown throughout their kindy years was heartwarming to all SPHLV families, teachers, and staff. Now, they are ready to take their first step into the Primary Years Program at SPH LV. Congratulations, K3 students. We are so proud of you!

Grade 6 Thanksgiving A New Journey Begins Here On the 8th of June, we had another celebration on our Lippo Village campus! Our sixth graders celebrated their culmination of the IB Primaryyears Programme at SPH. We call this ‘Thanksgiving Day’ - a time when they get to thank all their friends, teachers, and staff before moving on to the IB Middle-years Programme. In addition, we are also blessed to hear one of our students’ testimony, William Alfaro, as he shared about his journey in SPH so far. Although William enjoyed his fun journey in his primary years, he reminded his peers that a new journey has begun and that they should look ahead to the next chapter of their lives. As Luke 9:62 says: “Jesus replied, “No one who puts a hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Acclamation! Music Awards 2022
After two years of pandemic and online learning, it was with great delight our Ministering Arts Lippo Village was able to deliver the annual music awards on-site. This annual event is a tradition as a way to appreciate and honor our young musicians as they continue to learn and improve their musical talents. Various performances were performed by our students on instruments such as Angklung and Kolintang, orchestra and band. We also took the opportunity during this music awards to highlight this year’s Johannes Oentoro Award - A special award in honor of the late Bapak Johannes Oentoro, our school founder, for his passion and dedication in performing arts. Congratulations to Jason Aditya Kusnowo for being this year’s Johannes Oentoro Award recipient!

Academic awards Highlights Celebrating Last Day of School Every time before we approach the end of the academic year, our Senior School division takes the time to celebrate our students’ hard work and dedication to academic excellence. Once again, we are thankful to God for His grace as we are able to have this event on-site. It seems surreal that our students (from grade 7 to 12) were able to gather in gym 1 together and celebrate their last day of school with our annual academic awards. We were delighted to see the joy and enthusiasm of our students as they celebrated each other's achievements. Our academic awards aim to honor our students’ hard work, improvement, and enthusiasm in learning as well as continue to motivate them to grow and persevere. Congratulations to all students who received an academic award this year!

From Mokndoma to Jakarta
YANETON & YOCI'S VISIT This month, we had the privilege to welcome Bapak Andi, Yaneton, and Yoci from Sekolah Lentera Harapan (SLH) in Mokndoma, a small mountainous region in interior Papua. This visit was to bring Yaneton & Yoci’s wonderful testimonies about their lives in Papua and how they persevere with their passion for learning.
They would gather in a field, and a leader would be appointed amongst the students so that they would be able to lead them in reading the Word of God. If someone struggles, the others are happy to help and share their knowledge until everyone can read. Even just this small story– out of the many stories that Bapak Andi shared with us–brings warmth to our hearts.
Even though they have limited access to proper health care and education, through Yaneton & Yoci, we could see that those limitations do not hinder them from living their life to the fullest. We have seen God’s grace work in their lives as they daily live with contentment and gratefulness.
We learned from these two small boys who live in Interior Papua that God will provide enough for us as Matthew 6:25 states: “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”
One of the stories that Bapak Andi told our Lippo Village campus was how the children in SLH Mokndoma were eager to read the Word of God once they were able to read. The first thing they read together is the Bible!
