What's On in SPH Lippo Village
Christ the Lord has risen, He is risen indeed!
Dear SPH Family and Friends,
Easter is a special time of remembering and reflecting in amazement that our Creator God sent His only Son to be born, live the perfect life that we are unable to live, so that He could be the perfect, sinless, sacrifice on our behalf. God being holy and just requires perfect obedience to keep His Covenant. I fall short of that requirement daily. To know and understand God’s grace to me through Christ willingly taking God’s wrath on Himself on the cross for my failures is humbling.
This gift of love is sufficient for all who call on His Name and turn to Him as Savior and Lord. What a joy to know we can come into the presence of our Holy Heavenly Father covered by Christ’s righteous perfection. His death paid for the wrath I deserve. Christ’s resurrection, testified by countless eye witnesses, gives us the assurance of His victory over death and His power to redeem His children.
The words of the song, In Christ Alone, by Keith and Kristyn Getty convey this truth in a powerful way, this is one of the verses: (to listen to the full song - MERCY ME
- In Christ Alone (Lyric Video)Bing video)
There in the ground, His body lay
Light of the world, by darkness
slain
Then bursting forth in glorious day
Up from the grave, He rose again
And as He stands in victory
Sin's curse has lost its grip on me
For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Celebrations around the world
K3 Classroom Activity
Over the past few months, our K3 students have been on a journey around the world learning about different celebrations. From Diwali in India to Hanami in Japan, our young learners have been introduced to numerous festivities that bring people together. This month, our K3 teachers organized a special event featuring Mr. David, our Ministering Arts Coordinator, who spoke about the beautiful celebration of Flores de Mayo in the Philippines.
Flores de Mayo is held in May, which is known as the "month of flowers" in the Philippines due to the abundance of blooming flowers during this time of the year. This festival is a way for the community to come together and celebrate their heritage through music, dance, and other traditional practices.
Our students were able to both hear and participate in Mr. David's presentation about Flores de Mayo, but they also got to participate in various related activities. One such activity was making a bouquet of flowers, where students learned to gather different flowers and tie them to make a beautiful bouquet that they could either give to their loved ones or bring home.
To conclude their learning about Flores de Mayo, Mr. David introduced the students to the traditional game of Pabitin. The game involves a bamboo frame or grid called a "pabitin" that is suspended from a height and loaded with various prizes such as toys, candies, fruits, and other small items Students stand below the pabitin and try to grab as many prizes as they can while the pabitin is lowered and raised repeatedly.
We are grateful to have had Mr. David introduce us to Flores de Mayo and the fun game of Pabitin. The celebration and game helped us learn more about the beautiful culture and traditions of the Philippines, and we can't wait to explore more celebrations from around the world!

The magical benefits of learning gamelan
Junior School Classroom Activity
Are you ready to rock some traditional Indonesian tunes? Our grade 4 students sure are! Earlier this year, they took on the challenge of learning how to play Gamelan in their music lessons. As one of the first schools in Indonesia to invest in a complete set of the Gamelan, we're thrilled to introduce our students to this unique and beautiful instrument, while instilling a love for Indonesian culture through its music.
There's more to playing Gamelan than just creating beautiful sounds. Here are just a few of the many benefits of learning this mesmerizing instrument: 1. 2. 3. 4.
With its unique combination of xylophones, drums, and gongs, learning the Gamelan develops students' musical skills and teamwork abilities. Gamelan promotes teamwork among the students as they learn to be patient with each other during practice.
For our expatriate students, it provides a chance to better understand Indonesian culture and heritage during their time in Indonesia. As part of our Unit of Inquiry on How We Express Ourselves, students use Gamelan to express their true identities, communicate emotions and thoughts, and build confidence and self-esteem.
Learning Gamelan is about so much more than just playing an instrument. It's about connecting with Indonesian culture, developing valuable skills, and expressing oneself in a meaningful way We're thrilled to offer our students this opportunity to learn and grow, and we can't wait for you to hear the beautiful sounds they create!

Unleashing the curiosity of our young explorers
IB PYP Exhibition 2023
Earlier this month, our community was graced with the brilliant minds of our young explorers as they fearlessly delved into the depths of their curiosity during this year's PYP exhibition.
The PYP Exhibition is not your typical end-of-year project. It's an epic adventure where sixth-grade students become the masters of their own learning, exploring topics that are important to them and presenting their findings to the world. And the best part? It's all about having fun while learning!
Our grade 6 students are diving deep into the six Transdisciplinary Themes of the IB PYP, using their imagination and creativity to explore everything from "Who We Are" to "Sharing the Planet." These students are taking charge of their learning like never before, and it's incredible to see how independent they have become in such a short time.
As we listened to the students' ideas, we were blown away by their enthusiasm and their willingness to take risks. They're not afraid to ask the tough questions, challenge themselves, and think outside the box. And that's what the PYP Exhibition is all about – pushing boundaries, trying new things, and discovering what's possible.
PYP Exhibition is not just about the end result. The journey itself is an adventure, filled with excitement, laughter, and even a few bumps along the way. Students are applying the approaches to learning in the exhibition process, using their research and communication skills to collaborate with others and share their findings in a meaningful way.

Swinging into the world of jazz
A Musical Experience to Remember
This month was truly unforgettable as the Lisa Sung Jazz Trio from the U.S. graced our school with their musical prowess. Our students were buzzing with excitement as they eagerly anticipated the arrival of these jazz legends. The students had been studying jazz in their music classes and this was a golden opportunity for them to learn more about this incredible genre from one of the greatest experts in the jazz community! From the first notes played, it was clear that we were in for a real treat.
Led by the incredibly talented pianist Lisa Sung, the trio captivated our students with their stunning performances and even shared some of their secrets during a mini-masterclass session with our Grade 6-10 students. Lisa, who was honored with the John Stites Award for her innovative work in jazz composition, is truly a master of her craft.
The highlight of the visit was when our students got the chance to perform for the Jazz group and learn from their expertise. With Maxx Colley on trumpet and drums and Tom Knific on double bass, Lisa and her team created a unique and unforgettable experience for our students.
It was a joy to see our students so engaged and enthusiastic about jazz music. And we're grateful to Lisa and her team for taking the time to visit our school and share their love of music with us. We can't wait to see where our students' newfound inspiration will take them in their own musical journeys
