What's On in SPH Pluit Village | Vol. #6 June 2022

Message from the Head of School Dear Parents I am excited to let you know we have 2 siginifcant building projects happening over the summer: 1. We are installing a large skylight in the Grade 3-5 Collaborative Space. This will transform that area and make it far more pleasant for learning. 2. Our Kindergarten classes will be moving to a new purpose designed learning space. This will still be connected to the school but will allow us to further pursue our play-based learning approach which is so important for setting the children up for future success.

As we come to the end of another very ‘different’ year, the words of Philippians 4:19 come to mind which says “God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus.” These are not just comforting words they are TRUTH. God has met our needs, often abundantly more than we expected but always more than we deserve. He is gracious, compassionate, and all glory to Him. In my 30 years of teaching and leading schools, I have never been more grateful for a school’s partnership with parents than over this past 2 years. Your children will be able to continue thriving next year because their parents and teachers joined together to keep learning happening. Thank you… and Well Done!!

Have a wonderful and blessed summer break and see you soon. Respectfully, Tim Heading

"A Milestone"

Well Done, Gr. 10!

This has been a whirlwind of a year, but God is faithful!

Our Middle and Senior school has grown to about three times the size it was when I came to SPH Pluit Village 4 years ago and now encompasses grade 6-10. It has been an honor to finally offer grade 10 here at SPH Pluit Village this year and my team of teachers did a fantastic job.

We’ve gone from home learning to hybrid learning to running our first set of IGCSE exams and running our first grade 10 class trip all in one year! It’s been a year full of ups and downs, but we have made some real progress and grown a lot as a school. I want to take a moment to celebrate this growth at the end of the year and share with you some of the ways that the Lord has blessed us.

Our first class of grade 10 students overcame the adversity of the COVID pandemic, worked hard, and sat their IGCSE exams in person this year. I am looking forward to seeing their results and their continued growth and success as they head on to their next school.

Having students in grade 10 for the first time this year provided us with the opportunity to do a lot more than just take the IGCSE tests. Our student council has grown and become more effective now that we can have 10th grade students leading it.

We spent time enjoying the beauty of God’s creation by slowing down and gazing at the stars and jumping into the ocean from Telunas’ safe deck jumping points. We even ended the trip with a reflective bonfire where the students were able to have one last chance to bond together as a class before they head off on a new adventure next year.

We were also able to take them on our first class trip to Telunas Resorts in Batam. I’ve been trying to make this trip happen for our students for 4 years, so it was an absolute joy for me to get to go and see our grade 10’s enjoying themselves on the trip. We were able to take a few days to rest and celebrate all the hard work they have done the last two years.

Hearing their laughter and seeing them fully relax on this trip after all that they have been through the last few years was the highlight of my year. Finally, I’m looking forward to the new opportunities that God will provide for us next year as well! Cheers, Jon Steely Senior School Curriculum Coordinator SPH Pluit Village
