Heart Glow

Back in February my friends told me about the Russia and Ukraine war, at first I thought it was not that bad but then when I saw a video from the news and I was shocked of what actually happen in Ukraine city’s getting destroyed by airstrike multiple people and children losing their life. People and children getting injured so I was thinking for the art exhibition I will draw a rabbit in a jacket with Ukrainian flag, to spread awareness about Ukraine and Russia war. I was just inspired by how the Ukrainian who didn’t give up on their country and I stared. When I colored it I colored it using colored markers and I was really happy when I finish my artwork.

Celine Andrea Hendrawan Gouba at Wangshu Inn

2D: 40 X 30 cm Acrylic on canvas

3D: 6 X 4 cm Clay and acrylic paint

I got this idea from a popular game I like to play recently and decided to make a sculpture out of my favorite character and background. This character that I made call Gouba, an orange panda like creature who has the power to create fire and chili peppers. It is to be told that it is the god of stove as well. When making the background, I used paint on canvas. For the sculpture I hand shaped the clay pieces separately, air dried it and assembled them together. Lastly I painted it. This art symbolizes my favorite place and character in this popular game called genshin impact. So I recreated them in real life.

Shana Koswara Unnoticed

GR A DE 07-12

Canon EOS M6 Mark II with Canon MACRO 28 mm

Life moves fast, the marvelous details of it go unnoticed. “Unnoticed” is a collection of macro photographs of things we see on a regular basis with an aim to bring attention to the beauty of their details that are often overlooked. This portfolio focuses on 2 categories of macro photographs which are life and still life. The life macro category consists of living subjects such as insects, humans, and animals. This category allows us in on the details of their features or their actions.

Gabriella Annabel Leonardo I am Indonesian-based student photographer, who originally started doing photography as a leisurely activity during my holidays. I am familiar with editing programs like Adobe Photoshop and am familiar working my way around my Canon DSLR. Without a set goal to begin my photography career, many of my photographs (some of which are shown in this collection) are photographs that I took at random intending to experiment with my DSLR. Despite the randomness at hand, I was able to curate this collection, which cherishes the last few moments of summer as Indonesia is transitioning to its rainy season.

Objects Of Light

Barnaby Edgar Joshua

Portfolio made digitally on Procreate, pictures edited on Adobe Photoshop

“Objects Of Light” was my first photography portfolio in 10th grade. Besides my photographic style, the portfolio shows my effort, compositional skill, and creativity. All of these images have one thing in common: a masterful use of light. The subject can be divided into two basic types: those in color and those in monochrome. It is my hope that this portfolio will shed some light on my photographic journey. Color and light are intertwined in the first category. Lighting is an important part of any image, but when it’s combined with color, it adds depth, mood, and atmosphere to an image that wouldn’t be possible without it. This category showcases a variety of creative approaches to color. Monochrome is a subcategory of the second type of image. Colors are removed from the photo, allowing the viewer to focus on other

GR A DE 07-12

aspects of the image instead of the color. This category’s goal was to produce images that were beautiful regardless of their color. I had a lot of fun experimenting with this aspect of photography. As a result, I used photo editing programs like Photoshop and Lightroom to enhance the contrast and saturation in some of my images.

Ray Danavaro Tandjung

My portfolio features a variety of techniques that were taught at school. Composition was the key to most of these pictures but the main goal revolved around the theme “Abberation.” This is done through the use of unorthodox camera shots and weird color compositions. The photos were also taken around my neighborhood to give a different perspective on what i see in my daily life.

Anuva Jain Threat 8 x 6 x 22 cm Clay, wire, foil, feather and acrylic paint

For this ceramic piece, I was inspired by the fairytale “Peter and the Wolf”. This fairytale portrays the message that one cannot be a hero without taking risks. In this sculpture, I wished to depict that risk. I was able to interpret Peter and Wolf into my own piece, as the fairytale is originally a symphony, and any visual interpretation of the piece would therefore be unique to the message each individual person sees. These themes were made into a visual piece by using some of the elements and principles of art. To successfully encapsulate this, I had to carefully study the details of a real wolf. I kept reference pictures handy in order to accurately sculpt the musculature, fur, teeth and overall expression. This involved making a wire base and padding it out with foil, then beginning with the clay and working in layers to build up the form of the wolf, then using paint to add color and dimension, and bring out the finer texture in the sculpture.

Siyeon (Irene) Park Looking Back on Memories 42 x 27 cm Oil paint on paper

Flow of Time 35.4 x 27.9 cm Charcoal and pen on paper

Flow of Time is created with charcoal (both black and white) and drawing pens on paper. The drawing is based on a photo of my brother and me that my mom took in an aquarium at Jeju Island. I chose charcoal because it was the medium that could best display the texture and I used pen to give strong value. Early on in the process I had a lot of concerns, but by looking at the fish swimming peacefully, my stress was relieved.

GR A DE 07-12

Everyone has a time that they want to go back to - in memories. This artwork, Looking Back at Memories, is inspired by the photograph that I took at my grandparents’ house in Korea. This artwork means a lot to me, as it is like a photograph where I can feel love, care, happiness, and peace whenever I look closely at the artwork. It brings back all the good memories that I had at my grandparents’ house. For the techniques, I tried to show more texture of each element - like the fluffiness of the clouds, smoothness of leaves, and roughness of woods. As this was my first time trying oil painting, I had some challenges, like creating texture, but I tried to show variety with basic brush strokes - such as creating small flowers by stippling and creating a thickness of the leaves by adding more paint in that area.

Siyeon (Irene) Park

Stipples to Wooden Chair 28 x 17.8 cm Pen on paper This artwork, Stipples to Wooden Chair, includes many drawing techniques. While I was sketching the drawing of this artwork, I used a block-In technique to generally describe the shape of the wooden chair. Also, I used the concept of general to specific to make the drawing more specific with details. Finally, I used the triangulation technique to make sure that the drawing is within size and looks similar to the original picture. After the sketching process, I started to use stippling technique to fill out the spaces and create details. The concept of the artwork is somewhat about loneliness and plain. I chose this composition because it doesn’t look like a chair at first glimpse, but when the viewers continue to see the work, they will be able to catch which part is which. Throughout this project, I was able to learn more about drawing techniques, and I had a great time taking different pictures and seeing what matches well with the project. It was not always easy, as I had to start over once, but I think I was able to grow through the challenges.

Dear, Flamone Flower 30 x 40 cm Pen and paint on paper

I have always wanted to create a painting that is about mental health. So, the title Flamone Flower is inspired by the Flannel Flower, which is Australia’s national flower that represents mental health. The red - orange flower is inspired by the Anemone flower. For the painting, it is about a lonely girl who is battling her depression, her anxiety, or post-Traumatic disorder. The tentacles were made to represent those problems she is facing. There was no specific technique that was used for this painting, but I did use the black 0.3 drawing pen to create details on the tentacles, and the girl’s eyes, nose and mouth.

My Life 29.7 X 21 cm Pencil on paper

My work explores the relationship between my passions, comforts, and intimacies. With influences as varied as Cezanne and Guston, who shared intersecting interests in still life choices; sketching objects with both mundane and transcendent significance. I’ve been captivated by the traditional concept of the moment since I was a child. The image captured was a collective vision that reflected my current interests and stage in life as a passionate individual. The three artifacts on display indicate my artistic interests, as represented by the turpentine can, my curiosity in foreign cultures through the soy sauce bottle, and, finally, the comfort I feel in my home, as represented by the fruits that my mother used to set on the living room table. The observer is given a peek into my exuberant and youthful viewpoint of life as shimmering derivatives become frozen through diligent and critical practice.

The Legend of the Jade Rabbit

23 x 22 x 20 cm Mixed media (clay, wire, and acrylic paint)

My clay work delves into the world of Chinese folklore, telling the story of China’s Mid-Autumn Festival. This artwork represents my rendition of this tragic tale, in which a girl named Change-E takes her husband Hou Yi the archer’s elixir of immortality, which was given to Him by the Jade Emperor as a gratitude for shooting down the ten suns that were ready

to destroy earth. Chang-E was previously depicted as an evil soul who took her husband’s elixir for her personal advantage in order to become everlasting, but my version of this story is more compassionate take which portrays what may appear to be Chang-E’s true intentions. The illustration I created showed how Chang-e was only attempting to protect her husband’s elixir and instead received the consequence of immorality and eternal separation from her beloved and the world as a result of her innocent deeds.

The rabbit is then brought to the depiction, as this is the true love that is intended to be represented: the wholesome love between Chang-E and the rabbit. This rabbit is with her throughout her eternity in the sky, as she tragically awaits the time where she can be re-united with her husband every Mid-Autumn festival. As stories change over time through depiction and empathetic efforts, the viewer is left with a tribute to the need of optimism and thoughtfulness for the future as Chang-E is a symbol for the understanding that “you never know what someone has been through”.

The ideas, inspiration, and meaning of the mask is naturally to represent the culture of the Abkhazian people group. There were no particular unique techniques used except scumbling for the base color.

The ideas and inspiration for various sections of the artwork came along in the course of time. I suppose there are no special or unique techniques used, just various drawing pens, continuous linework, and repetition

A3 Pen and marker on paper

20 x 13 x 7 cm Styrofoam, shirt, clay, string, paint and marker

For the painting, we had to use the 3 types of painting techniques we learned during class which are impasto, scumbling, and glazing. The inspiration is my brother.

For the drawing, I was learning about lines and shapes. In this drawing, we had to incorporate the 3 types of lines and the types of shapes too. The inspiration for this drawing is myself.

The mask is based on the Khmer people group. We were supposed to include 5 symbols of the people group I picked arts represented by the pottery, religion represented by the parasol, food represented by the fish, clothing represented by the fabric and sting, and finally infrastructure that is represented by the drawing of Angkor Wat.

Acrylic Painting A4 Marker and Acrylic Paint on Paper and Acrylic Sheet

I got this idea when Mr Joel said to make a unique expression so that it could attract the audience. I decided to make a funny expression, and I chose my cousin as the model for me to draw because he’s the only one that could make the expression that I’m looking for. I didn’t choose the expression but I asked my cousin to make a silly and funny expression. The techniques I used to make this painting is, glazing, scumbling and impasto. For glazing/overlaying, I mixed two colours to form the colour

GR A DE 07-12

that I’m looking for. Glazing is actually like overlaying colours. For scumbling, I applied a thin layer of paint to the painting with a dry brush. For impasto, I put a small chunk of paint into the top of the brush and started making lines so if formed a weird but unique shape and colour.’ I really love my painting and every time I see it, it makes me happy because of the funny face my cousin made. I hope it makes everyone of you who sees it happy too.

I chose my dad for my acrylic painting because he is a part of my household which is one of the communites I’m in and I am also very close to him. He also has bold expressions since he’s ambitious.

The Picture

Why so Angry

A4 Acrylic paint and marker on paper and acrylic sheet

A4 Acrylic paint and marker on paper and acrylic sheet

The idea of this artwork is to trace the photo showing an extreme emotion someone in my community. We used acrylic sheet and did not paint the skin so that the background can color the skin. The background of the art work is inspired by portal. The acrylic techniques that I used are Scumbling, Glazing, and Impasto.

I chose the tetradic colour scheme because a lot of the colours in the colour scheme are the colours that I thought would be perfect for my acrylic painting. I chose blue- violet because my dad’s favourite colour is blue and my second favourite colour is purple. I chose red- orange because the expression that my painting has is an angry face and usually red describes anger. Something that I like the most about my painting is how I made the painting similar to what my dad looks like. I also like my scumbling because it has different colours to it and the brush is also quite dry.

The Inner Child

Sella

21 x 29.7 cm Watercolor and pen on paper

20 x 30 cm Pencil and pen on paper This artwork is a drawing of part of a chair, and shows a strong reflection of light and shadows. The dots are a technique of shading which is called ‘stippling’. Each dot significantly represents a part of the different values in the drawing as it helps to create and show drastic changes in the artwork. With a strong source of light, the chair shows many gradients and contrasts, and I created this artwork as a final piece from a lot of practice that we had during class. The title of the artwork ‘Sella’ is Latin for chair and is also referenced sometimes as rest, which a chair can bring.

While I was listening to the song Inner Child by V, I felt that the lyrics are very heartwarming and the context of the song told the story of a man’s heartfelt letter to his younger self. I thought that was also an interesting topic to do an artwork on and so that was how I chose my quote or phrase. The most commonly used techniques that I worked with for this artwork was wet on wet, lifting and pen with watercolor. I used lifting for many parts of the clothing and background because I wanted to create lighter areas to emphasize the carousel.

Caeley Callista Heintje Tan

GR A DE 07-12

Lifting was also a good technique to lift off my small mistakes. Wet on wet was prominently used for most of the clothing and carousel, and I used this technique because I wanted the color to spread evenly and to have a good control over the paint and water. I then used pen to bring out the small details of the artwork, such as the hands, the boy’s face and body and other parts that I wanted to emphasize other than the carousel itself. I also used graded wash to create gradient parts for a smoother transition between multiple colors. Lastly, I used splattering to create ‘star’ or splash like droplets to make the background more interesting (instead of just a plain color).

The Swan A4 Pencil and pen on paper The Swan is an artwork of a girl doing a ballet dance move. It was created using mostly pencil/graphite and also a black pen. We were told to find a figure that we could illustrate and I wanted to choose a figure that portrayed a graceful and elegant posture. With the help from my friend and her ballet photography, I was able to create the figure. To add some detail to the background, I added a swan as it represents grace and elegance, which matches my overall theme.

Yumin Nam Lovely Cushion 21 x 14.4 cm Pen on paper I have chosen the best photo of the dining chair with three keys of composition. It is balanced because the chair is not leaning towards one side and making the audience’s eyes go down to the edge of the artwork because of the straight rectangular shape in the center. Also, the viewpoint is interesting; this artwork is showing one of the legs of the chair and the cushion part of the chair which allows the audience to be curious about the angle. To convert the photo into artwork with pen, I used the block-in technique, general to specific, and a method called sight-sizing. The block-in technique helped me to start broadly, which helped me to focus on overall stuff and look at it as a whole, not just focusing on one point. After using the block-in technique to draw basic shapes, I used general to specific technique to slowly move to the details. Finally, I checked with the sight-sizing method.

Scars of Insults 19.8 x 28.7 cm Charcoal and pencil on paper

I have drawn a girl running down the stairs as my figure and added arrows, speech bubbles, faces, and mouths. The arrows, speech bubbles, laughing faces, and mouths are representing the insults and disrespectfulness of other people. I wanted to show the beauty of hardships by showing how the girl is frustrated but confidently trying her best to get out of the situation. I think the process of how we overcome severe conditions in our lives is beautiful, so I tried my best to deliver this message through the artwork.

Cloth and Wood

A Matter of Perspective

14.2 x 19.4 cm Pen on paper

This artwork is the side view of a dining chair, drawn using the stippling technique. Stippling is the creation of a pattern by using multiple dots. In this case, I have used a variety of pen sizes to help add value to this artwork. I have used edges and negative space in this artwork to add emphasis to the subject. This emphasis is also assisted by the contrast between the chair and the background. The large edge on the side helps the viewer focus on the chair itself.

29.7 x 42.0 cm Pen on paper

The object I have chosen in my artwork is a wooden chair that was placed facing upwards on the floor, composed with the stippling technique. The stippling technique utilizes ranges of dots or tips of a drawing pen to create value and composition in an artwork. I believe that viewpoint in this artwork can be seen as the viewers eyes are guided down the handle of the chairs and I think it’s a very interesting viewpoint since it looks like a chair if you look at it from a different perspective. The use of edges is also visible within the artwork, such as the foot of the chair, or in general, the wooden parts of the chair. This artwork also used the block-in and general to specific technique to create the core and the base of the composition. Overall, I think the process in itself was quite difficult as I usually do quick sketches, so the introduction of the stippling technique, at first was quite hard to do but I was able to control it somewhat. This encouraged me to take more time while I do stippling.

A Residue of Social Expectations Fujifilm XT-20 camera, Huion Kamvas Drawing Monitor, Adobe Photoshop

GR A DE 07-12

The subject is the result and the residue of what social expectations can leave behind on a person. The cracked face of multiple demeanors created in order to keep up with the expectations and the social anxiousness of the constant eyes

staring, are all something that someone can feel as a result of social pressures. Along with the dark ominous lighting and the glitch effect of the surroundings, the image projects a sense of uneasiness that the subject feels. I was inspired by

my thought about this subject. I realized that this is an issue at large, especially in our modernizing world, where many have had to face the pressures of expectations.

Jessyca Ashley Chayadi Chair in the Balcony

Jakarta, 2021

A4 Pen on paper

A4 Mixed media Charcoal, Graphite, Ink on Paper

Chair in the Balcony is a pointillist drawing that highlights the significance of everyday objects, such as a chair. The chair’s significance is shown through the artwork’s interesting composition which includes asymmetrical balance (balance), the close-up view of the leg (viewpoint), and the tile patterns that draw the viewers’ attention to the edges of the artwork (edges). The little dots of the pointillism technique are used in this artwork to experiment with value and unity, as well as shape and movement. This piece involves various processes including the block-in, general to specific, negative and positive shapes, and value mapping.

GR A DE 07-12

Jakarta, 2021 is a mixed-media artwork that depicts a metropolitan city that is heavily inspired by Jakarta. This piece is centered on a becak driver who is observing the birds and admiring the beauty of the city despite its hecticness. It contrasts the bustle of the traffic on the right with the serenity and peacefulness of the becak driver on the left. It also includes the three keys of composition that may be found in its asymmetrical balance, details that lead to the edges (including the “cropped” look and the sharp lines of the becak tires), and the back viewpoint of the person. Other than the block-in and the value mapping method, this piece utilizes the landmark technique to check the proportions of the figure.

Languish Digital media

The artwork itself was made with the idea of male beauty standards in mind. In my opinion, the concept is not well known, as female beauty standards have more traction than male beauty standards. I had no specific artwork inspiration as the idea sort of popped in my head. I used Photoshop as my main tool to create the artwork. I used a custom made oil brush to give the artwork an oil painting like aesthetic, and used real life images of myself to blend with the oil painting. The colour scheme gives e a stoic, emotionless vibe to the artwork which goes with the name of the artwork. I wanted the artwork to give of a sense of calm languish, a dissatisfaction of the human body and face and a wish of wanting more.

GR A DE 07-12

Elena Sarayu Udaya Father’s Face A4 Acrylic paint and marker on paper and acrylic sheet

The idea of my artwork is mostly based on my father. The process of making this painting is easy and hard at the same time. The hard part is outlining the whole entire face onto the paper. It is hard because you need to get the exact face proportions. In addition, another hard part is trying to make the background for the painting. You can get many options of analogous colors, tetradic, triadic and more. Furthermore, the easy part is taking the picture and coloring the painting. It is because you can take any picture of a face expression that you want and it is really easy to color the painting.

The meaning of this artwork is that you can always make a good expression on something to make others and yourself happy. For example: if a friend of mine is sad, I would pull of a funny or weird expression to make them happy again. The techniques that is used for this painting are impasto, contour and cross contour lines. In addition, the colors that I used are analogous colors.

The person in my artwork is my brother. I choose him to represent my community because I think his character will fit well with the colors I choose. He is a very active, bright, and creative person. His actions, personality and character are shown through the colors and the face expression he made. I also used many techniques in this artwork. I used scumbling – a technique where you glaze a part with a dry brush, glazing – a technique where you glaze a part with a wet brush – and impasto – a technique that uses thick layers of paint. The meaning behind this painting is that everyone is naturally different and we should all be happy about it. At the end, God created all of us to be different.

This artwork is made to represent the culture of the Fulani people group, which is one of the most diverse tribes in Africa. This people group is famous for their unique and extraordinary creations, such as their handmade milk bowl. I was inspired to research and create an artowrk on this people group when I saw the beautiful, handmade milk bowl on google. I always think that being unique and diverse is very important, so I decided to share this beautiful tribe with others. The symbols on the mask have a meanings behind them. The branches symbolize

‘Sharro’, a sport that uses branches to test the bravery of the Fulani people. The ball of wool symbolizes their hobby, which is knitting. The soccer ball symbolizes soccer, a western sport they like to play. The engraved gourd symbolizes another hobby they like, which is creating gourds. The word ‘yay’ in Fula symbolizes their Fula language and the Islamic symbol symbolizes their religion, which is Islam. The message behind this mask is that the world is diverse, and one mask of a tribe will always be different to another.

Jaclyn Tjahaja June’s Whistler 29.5 x 21 cm Watercolor on paper

GR A DE 07-12

This artwork depicts the image of one of the mountains in Whistler. The reason why the painting is titled June’s Whistler is because I visited the location during summer, 2019. I chose to paint this specific location as I still remember how beautiful the nature and scenery around me was, and I wanted to recreate that feeling into an artwork. For this artwork, I used a variety of watercolor techniques. I used wet on dry, dry and wet brush during the process of painting.

The mask is based on a one of the first believers of buddha’s. It is mainly focused on the Tsam ceremony, which is a dancing celebration. It is performed by skilled dancers as apostles and devils. The golden color also represents the golden Soyomboin, which is their flag.

Gaby Evangeline Tjahjono Yuwono

My people group is the Abazin people group. I chose them because I found some interesting things on them like how they dip most of their food into their sauce made up of their own salt. I also found it interesting that children begin school at 6, while in most areas, children start school at around the age of 4. I chose the colors green, red, white, and black. Red represents their flag and the Egypt flag which is where Abazin is located. The green represents grass and hills which is where Abazin is located.

Gojek Digital media

The subject matter in this painting is a Gojek driver that was taken outside my house. He is staring into the distance, with a mask to protect him from the Covid-19 virus. The artist of inspiration I learned from is Vincent Van Gogh, and the artwork I chose was one of his portrait paintings. I applied Van Gogh’s signature brush technique, the impasto technique, in my painting. Using the oil paint brush, I followed the movement of the object I was painting to make linear strokes. I avoided blending, and used transitional colors instead, so the painting still has roughness to it.

They live amongst mountains or below them. White represents part of the Egypt flag. And black also represents part of the Egyptian flag. Some of the symbols I use include their flag, which is made up of stars surrounding a hand. The cross on top of the mask represents their Christian religion, and the star and moon near the nose represents Islam. A bunch of numbers and books represent that they are smart and educated people, mountains represent that they live in mountains, and a soccer ball represents that they love playing soccer.

This painting portrays scenery in Germany. I stayed there for 2 months doing online learning from 12 am until 10 am. It was pitch black but when the sun rises, all I can see is this scenery right at my window. I could just be doing my assignments and admiring the beautiful mountains and snow falling from the sky. I also used different kinds of techniques in the painting. I used a dry brush by not using water and making textures for the Rocky Mountains and the texture of the tress, so it looks more realistic. I used wet on dry for the sky, so I basically put in one color and spread it throughout the top/background. I used drop in color for the trees by using different shades of green. I used the dark green first then I added little bits of little green to show more of nature/light.

My artwork is about the Tibetan people, native to Tibet and currently part of China’s 56 ethnic groups. I chose them because I thought it was interesting how China took over Tibet, and I wanted to see things like their traditions and cultures exclusive to the Tibetans instead of the Chinese. Colors I used for this mask are Red, Yellow, (and other colors I used for the clay decorations). I chose them because the Red color and the The yellow stars are meant to represent the flag of China (majority is red) and the rest of the colors in my mask are to show the symbols on my mask. For example, I used brown on the

horse and dark blue for the patterns on the Chinese porcelain cup. I used different symbols I found from doing my research and some elements that aren’t symbols but make the mask have more elements of Tibet. I used cotton pads to resemble wool that the Tibetans wear in winter, stars for the Chinese Flag, which Tibet is part of, a horse to resemble horse racing being the most prominent sport in Tibet, eightfold path earring to show that the majority of Tibetans believe in Buddhism, and “hello” in Tibetan written using a marker on the mouth to show their language.

30 x 15 x 20 cm Cardboard, paint and glue My artwork shows how details in a calculator can be seen more clearly if it’s enlarged. I used sheets of cardboard, paints, and glue to create this piece. I used a calculator as the object of choice since I use it every day for subjects like math and science. This particular object will also test my ability to bring attention to detail. The highlight of my artwork was creating the shape itself, since I needed to expand double the size of a normal sized calculator. I used techniques such as cutting, laminating, exposed cardboard, and stacking to create this artwork.

Nowadays, global warming is a big issue. The huge temperature changes affect the daily lives of individuals, and threatens our natural environment populated with humans and animals. Why is this happening? How did global warming affect our daily lives? Global warming is a pressing issue as the increase in heat causes the icebergs and large glaciers to begin melting. It causes a rise in sea levels, which endangers cities. Because of global warming, cities like Jakarta are going below the average sea level, and if the illicit activities of mankind continues, human existence on the planet will soon be threatened. The issue of global warming is addressed in my painting mainly through the expression of symbolism.

Symbols like the melting earth, the warm red tones on the background, the cracked glass, garbage, smoke, and ice cubes all represent the effects and factors that global warming brings. A large number of editing went through exporting the painting back and forth from Procreate to Photoshop, where I relied heavily on Procreate for aspects which required painting or digital manipulation, while Photoshop was mainly used to adjust the colors of the painting which was able to successfully produce a more vibrant tone to the earth and background.

My Life in a Nutshell

The Diversity of Igbo

42 x 29.7 cm Pen and marker on paper

25 x 13 x 7cm Styrofoam, fabric, pins, and newspaper

This drawing expresses my identity because there are several symbols in the drawing that describe my personality, beliefs, hobbies, biggest accomplishments, and family. One thing I did well in my drawing was the details I drew on my bike. I tried to make sure that it looked like a folding bike with all the parts of one, instead of a regular bike. Although some parts were not accurate, I made an effort to make it look as similar as it was in the picture.

The people group that I chose is the Igbo people group. I chose them because they have a lot of diversity in terms of their art, food, clothing, traditions, etc. The colors I chose to show about my people group are red, black, yellow, and green since those are the colors of their flag. The symbols I used to show my people group are the cross and moon (which represents the 2 main religions in Igbo, Christianity and Odinani), “mpako” (which means ‘proud’ in Igbo), their traditional clothing patterns (the ones painted blue), yam and Oha soup (their typical/staple food), “Oct. 1!” (Nigerian Independence Day), and a headwrap (female accessory).

Me

42 x 29.7 cm Pen and marker on paper

This drawing expresses my identity through the 3 symbols I made in the picture on the top right corner. The first symbol is a drawing book inside a tv. There is a card inside the drawing book and a game console inside the card. This symbol means that I like to watch tv, I like to draw, I like to play cards, and like to play games. Another symbol is a picture of a brain. Inside the brain there are 3 parts: the first part is smart, second is lazy and third is idiotic. This symbol represents my personality. One thing that I did well on in my drawing is on the bottom right corner, which is the semi-circle pattern.

Yuchan Pen Drawing A4 Pen and marker on paper This drawing is expressing my identity because in this drawing I put lots of things that I like, my hobby, things about my family and even my personality. I think I did well on drawing myself with badminton racket with many details, even tiny things. I love the top part of the badminton racket. It requires lots of concentration to do that because it is tiny. Also, I like the banana with cross-contour lines because it really looks like 3D but not 2D. As an addition, I like the details of the background too because the background contains so many different things.

My watercolor painting is inspired by a landscape photo I took during my 2021 summer holiday in Bali. I chose to paint the landscape photo I chose because it was one of my favorite photos that I took during my holiday. This is because it showed the clear blue sky and also the green mountains. Moreover, I used several techniques in creating this artwork. The techniques I used include the paper towel technique, dry brush, lifting, and wet in wet. The painting represents how beautiful Indonesian islands can be (e.g. Bali), like the greens and the mountains. This is usually what captivates and attract people to visit these islands.

In my finished watercolor painting, I have included contrast to make it look interesting and eye-catching to viewers. This can be seen in the flower in the bottom left conner of my painting. I made the flower contrast because the color of the flower I used is bright and yellow. Furthermore, I also have demonstrated emphasis by making the mountains look green, which is lighter. Another area I emphasized in my painting is the water.

Xinmei Gao (Rebecca) Ubud Rice Field 25.5 x 18 cm Watercolor on paper Throughout my many visits to Bali, the rice fields of Ubud stand out the most to me. The crowd of tourists and the heat of the midday sun contrasts astoundingly with the clear canal water and mountains covered by lush green forests. This painting emphasizes on that contrast, as demonstrated by the solid colors and rougher texture of the foreground, compared to the paler colors and smoother texture of the background. Techniques such as lifting, dry brush, wet on wet and more were used to further emphasize this contrast, recreating a similar experience to that of visiting such a place.
