Vol #1 Jan-Mar 2022

in SPH Lippo Cikarang

Message from The Head of School Hello SPH LC Community, We are thankful that we were able to invite students back to campus for Quarter 4. It has been a joy to see students in class learning, socializing, and growing. Let's continue to pray for our community.

Welcome to our new newsletter! We will continue to send updates through email and WhatsApp, but we hope the SPH LC community will enjoy this newsletter to reflect on past events and to be informed about important dates in the future. We praise God for His grace and mercy over our community throughout this academic year. We know there have been many uncertainties this past year, but we are grateful that we can be certain about God’s faithfulness.

Blessings, Helen Schleper Head of School SPH Lippo Cikarang

HYBRID LEARNING

We can see many happy faces of Kindergarten to Senior students who just started their first day of Hybrid Learning on January 10, 2022! Some students were excited as it was the first time they entered an actual, physical classroom. We are so glad to see you back at school, and we can't wait to make lots of great memories this year!

JS VACCINATION

JS Student Vaccination Clinic Thank you to all parents, teachers, and staff who supported our vaccination day on January 13 (first dose) and February 10 (second dose). We are so grateful that God has provided us with access to this vaccine for our students and see it as a key part of the process of returning to fullon-campus learning at SPH Lippo Cikarang. The bravery of our students and the compassion of our teachers and staff were on full display as the dedicated team from UPH Medical Faculty vaccinated approximately 500 SPH and SDH's students.

GP EXHIBITION

GP Project: Raising Concerns about Child Migration A few months ago, as a part of their IGCSE Global Perspective Course, our 10th graders started an initiative to improve the life of migrant children by raising people's awareness through social media and raising funds. Their concern for the lives of migrant children was also supported by the research they've done in regard to this issue. Based on the data collected by UNICEF, the total number of international migrants has reached 281 million people, and 36 million of them are children. Our 10th graders have utilized social media platforms to raise public awareness on issues surrounding child migrants. They also used these platforms to start fundraising activities within the SPH LC community by collaborating with a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), UNHCR Indonesia. Back in November 2021, they handed the donations to them. The IGCSE Global Perspective Course emphasizes the development of students' ability to think critically about a range of global issues, where there is always more than one point of view. It is a joy to see our students stand up for the marginalized. We believe that our young students are capable of bringing change as the future leaders of our generation!

LOVING AND CARING WEEK

Feb 14 - 18th, 2022

Mission Service: Loving and Caring Week What a beautiful sight to see our students who share the love of God in our annual Loving and Caring Week. In this year's Loving and Caring Week, our students and the rest of the SPH LC community participated in fundraising activities to financially support scholarships for students at SLH Labuan Bajo. Showing genuine love and care can take form in small, simple things such as writing cards. Following their fundraising and donation activities, students wrote their friendship cards filled with words of encouragement to their new friends in SLH Labuan Bajo. By participating in this event, the SPH LC community was once again reminded that a small act of kindness and love can make an impact in someone's life.

FOR YOUR INSPIRATION

SPH is launching the first episode of “Flourishing Schools” podcast series! We picked the title “Flourishing Schools” for our podcast to shed light on how our school can support educators, parents, and students to flourish in all aspects. In the first episode, Mr. Matthew Mann, Executive Director, and Dr. Barry Shealy, Director of Learning at SPH, discuss the importance of professional learning for teachers and what it means to be Christian educators. Christian educators never stop learning, and at SPH, teachers' professionalism and spiritual growth are of paramount importance. Dr. Barry Shealy is an educator whose experience spans 38 years, both as a teacher and leader in Christian education institutions. Listen to Dr. Barry's take on the impact of professional learning for high-impact teaching and the best practices of an excellent Christian school.
