What's On
Vol Vol #5 #3 Apr Feb 2022 2022
in SPH Lippo Village Dear Parents and Friends, This is a rewarding time of the school year as we see the culmination of weeks, months, and in some cases years of student work and creativity.
(our grade 10 Personal Projects were highlighted in our last edition). One thing that always strikes me is the imaginations of our students, their interests, and things they wish to make better in our community, country, and world. Our prayer, as parents and educators, is that our students would continue to develop and use their gifts to serve others to impact the lives of those around us for God’s glory.
The work is the process of planning, investigating, experimenting with possible solutions, documenting the steps along the way, the final product, and lastly a time of reflecting back over the project cycle from the initial idea to presenting the final outcome to friends, family, guests, and teachers.
Thank you, students, for sharing a bit of your lives and hearts with us as you care for God’s creation and people, His image bearers.
What our students produce through the gallery walks and exhibitions is inspiring! If you have not attended one of these events in person you’re missing out. In this edition of What’s on at LV, we attempt to capture for you a sampling of the work and creativity of our students starting with our DP Visual Arts – Art Exhibition, to gallery walks in the JS and 6th Grade Exhibition
Because He is faithful, Gregg Thompson Head of School SPH Lippo Village

NEWS & HIGHLIGHTS
Curtain Call IB DP Visual Arts Exhibition is back on campus! It has been two years since the onsite IB DP Visual Arts Exhibition took place, and we are thrilled to have finally been able to open for audience viewing this year! Students, teachers, and families gathered to cruise around the K400 room and take their time to appreciate each of the student's artwork. What makes the exhibition interesting is not only the art pieces themselves, but also the artist's statements where students explain the story, meaning, or cultural background behind every piece of artwork. This year's exhibition, 'Curtain Call,' was helmed by nine DP students who exhibited their artwork made during the two-year program. For the exhibition itself, students did a lot of hard work as they planned and arranged the setting of their individual exhibitions. The assessment encompasses the entire process from the initial plan of the artwork to the logistics of the exhibition. We truly applaud the students' laborious work, and we congratulate them for a job well done!

A Celebration of Learning Grade 6 PYP Exhibition 2022 More exciting news comes from Grade 6 as they also held their PYP Exhibition back on campus!
From initial planning to making their action products, each student went through a rigorous process of inquiry and research that was guided by their teachers and mentors.
42 students are showcasing the projects they have been preparing for the past 8 weeks.
This year's PYP Exhibition is unique in that it will be presented in two forms: onsite and online. The onsite synchronous exhibition will be open to the internal SPH community. The online asynchronous presentations and informational material will be made available on SPH-LV's LibGuide for the families unable to come in person and for the public to view.
The exhibition covers a wide range of topics such as the metaverse, space exploration, video editing for advertisement, ocean pollution, child cancer, and so many more. The whole exhibition process was a collaborative journey involving their classmates, other grade levels, teachers, and parents.

NEWS & HIGHLIGHTS
DADDY & ME A Special Bonding Time for Fathers and Children After a 3-year hiatus, SPH LV’s Daddy & Me is back this year! We are more than grateful that we can finally hold an onsite parenting event again, with Daddy & Me as the first one for this year. What makes Daddy & Me unique is that it is specially crafted for father-and-child bonding; it is not the usual one-directional parenting seminar, but filled with fun and engaging activities for families. This year’s Daddy & Me was also special as we involved mothers as well! The one-day event covered parenting talks, fun games, teambuilding activities, and a special lunchtime together. The event was closed with a heartfelt session where fathers, mothers, and children exchanged personal letters and read them together. 6 sph.edu
Children expressed their hearts and thankfulness to their fathers, while fathers also wrote their hopes and prayers for the children. Not just only that, mothers gave their own personal letters to fathers – expressing their gratitude to them. We loved seeing these families have a heart-to-heart moment like this! We pray that this event inspires fathers to become better fathers at home as they exercise their role as leaders in the family. May God lead and guide each father at SPH, and may families continue to walk in the path of the Lord and become witnesses of Christ’s love wherever they go.

REFLECTION
Whole School Easter our Easter celebration this year shed light on Jesus Christ who is our Living Hope. He not only gives us hope, but He himself is that hope, and He is alive!
There is a saying: "Born once, die twice. Born twice, die once." Every Christian has two birthdays in this life: Physical (the day you are born in this world) and Spiritual (the day you are “born again” and are regenerated as a true Christian).
As we continue our lives in that Living Hope, God grants us spiritual gifts–one of which is joy. Being a Christian does not spare us from tragedies or hardships in this life; however, despite the trials in life, we can have joy knowing that we have an eternal life with Christ and that He is in control.
Easter is the foundation and vehicle of our regeneration. Because Christ has risen, we can be born again in the Spirit. And because He has risen, we who are in Him only need to die once, and then we receive eternal life through our living hope in Christ.
Let us, as one community of hope, stir up one another to do good works and encourage one another!
This was one of the highlights of Dr. Ronald Scates' message in the virtual Whole School Easter Assembly held on April 7. With the theme of "Our Living Hope,"
As Mr. Khoa reminded us, let us continue the conversations of faith and share the gospel of hope with our students and our children. 8 sph.edu
"No matter what has happened or is happening – all my challenges, my disappointment, my conflicts, my shortcomings, or my failures – we have our Living Hope, which includes the eternal future that is promised to me in Christ." - Mr. Khoa Anh Tran, Spiritual Life Coordinator

Take a Bow Strings Program at SPH LV Equipping students with the right mindset in music
On April 28, the annual strings concert is back with a new catchy name, Stringism! We are happy to have Pak Andri and Ibu Priscilla, our new strings teachers, share about the recent annual concert, their approach to music teaching, and their vision for the strings program at SPH LV. Hi Pak Andri & Ibu Priscilla! Could you please tell us more about yourself and your background? We both graduated and majored in music. Andri took general music education and Pris took piano performance. We both met 13 years ago, and we have been co-teaching until today. Andri: I have been playing music since I was 4. Now I do strings conducting and I play instruments such as violin, viola, as well as piano and guitar occasionally. I started teaching music in 2002.
For me, teaching music is not just a choice, but it’s a calling. Priscilla: I have been playing music since I was 2. There was a piano in my living room, and I couldn’t leave it alone. Now, I play piano, cello, violin, and contrabass, and I also love music writing and ear training. I started my career in music teaching in 2004.

SPH STORIES
We influence students to be mindful every time they learn and play where they have to pour their hearts and souls.
How was the preparation for the Annual Strings Concert this year? At first, we decided to have an online concert, so we prepared everything with an online mindset: selfrecording, pushing everyone to meet their deadlines, and final editing. However, in the middle of the process, the decision switched to a hybrid setting where most students could meet in person.
That way, we hope they can maintain and even grow their passion for music even after they no longer see their music teachers regularly. What vision do you have for SPH LV’s Strings program – knowing that SPH has quite an extensive String Ensemble history?
While preparing the online content, we started meeting students face to face. Weekly, we had to practice in up to six separate rooms simultaneously, rehearsed independently, and with our teachers checking them alternately. It was indeed a roller-coaster ride, yet a memorable process!
We hope all our students can enjoy music and express their God-given talents with their musically-trained brains and souls. We will continue building their skills in the strings department as well as expanding their musical knowledge through a more thorough musical analysis and playing experiences through an orchestral approach.
In day-to-day learning, how do you support students’ growth and nurture their passion as future musicians?
We also envision students who understand that everyone has talent, no matter big or small, and use that talent with full responsibility to be fruitful and bless others. They should not aim for perfection – for mistakes are human – but focus on hard work and striving to be the best versions of themselves.
We think it’s important to equip students with the correct mindsets in music: growth and progress. Growth happens in every experience, whether through personal practice sessions, rehearsals, small or big performances, and competitions.
