dye and finish
Dyes and finishes add varying degrees of color, protection, and even special effects.
• Finishes like distressing, embossing, pull-up waxes, and oils can give any leather a distinctive appearance. We do not use banned chemicals in our finishes, and waxes are all natural.
• Aniline dyes keep things natural, highlighting the leather's grain and natural markings the way a stain highlights the natural characteristics of wood. Variations in color and texture, both when the leather is new and as it ages, are inherent to this look; many people find them highly desirable.

Top-grain leather still utilizes the upper part of the hide, but the surface is gently buffed for softness, pliability, and consistent dye absorption.
• Semi-aniline leather is aniline-dyed and then dyed a second time with a more opaque color. It has a protective finishing layer but still preserves some natural markings and color variations.
Our leather gets its surface appeal from its grain, which can be either left in its natural state or refined for a more consistent appearance.
• Thicker, more durable full-grain leather comes from the top part of the hide. It maintains the leather's original character, including its natural markings and texture, which are hallmarks of quality and authenticity.
• Pigmented leathers are top grain leathers that are semi-aniline dyed and given a protective top coat, offering maximum durability and color consistency.

It's not easy to create the cozy comfort you feel when you sink into well-crafted leather furniture. That's why our artisans employ specialized tailoring techniques that may differ from what you see on fabric upholstery.
It's important to note that while your leather furniture may arrive looking taut and tailored, leather is a natural material that stretches over time. A bit of pooling and the development of a more time-loved character are natural parts of the leather lifespan.
Air from inside a cushion can escape through a fabric's fibers when you sit; not so with leather. Sewing a denim panel to the underside of leather cushions allows that air transfer and gives your cushions that sink-in feeling.

WHAT DO PICTUREYOU when you think of leather?
Each hide has its own grain patterns, just like a piece of wood. Leather can be smooth like a baseball, pebbled like a basketball, or have a mix of both textures on the same surface. Every leather also absorbs dye differently.
Variations in texture—again, think baseball, basketball or a mix of both—affect how the dye settles and how the color turns out. Like wood, leather tells the story of something once alive. Its natural creases or scars, like the rings of a tree, result from its unique interaction with its environment. These markings may stand out from the rest of the hide because of the way they absorb dye. They’re enhanced by dye in the way that wood grain is enhanced by stain.
