We test for colorfastness, seam integrity, abrasion, pilling, and more; many of our fabrics meet the same standards as those found in the world's finest hotels.

STITCH-PERFECT UPHOLSTERY, TAILORED JUST FOR YOU
Our leathers are cut and color-blended by hand; no shortcuts like splits, bonded pieces, or vinyl matching. It can take as many as seven hides to upholster a leather sectional, and we cut and color-blend each one by hand. Depending on the piece, you can customize your cushion fill for soft, medium, or firm support; add flourishes with details like nailhead trim, welting, or tufting; or choose custom, hand-applied finishes that make exposed wood extraordinary. Many of our most popular pieces are ready to ship within a couple of weeks; a custom-finished piece may take longer, but it’s worth the wait. Either way, the name Ethan Allen has stood for quality for more than 89 years, a reputation built by the pride and the passion of our

Once your wood furniture is built, it’s finished by hand, and each carefully applied layer of paint, stain, or varnish must pass an inspection.
When the wood is dry, some of it is matched and glued by hand to form the planked tops of our handcrafted tables. Some heads to the lathe to be transformed into sturdy carved table pedestals or the turned posts of a farmhouse-inspired bed. Into other pieces, we cut the pins and tails of our durable dovetail drawer joinery, steam-bend sleigh bed headboards, or carve rosettes by hand.

Many pieces of Ethan Allen wood furniture begin their journeys at our Beecher Falls, Vermont, sawmill, the place where our company began in 1932. We debark logs and cut them into squared pieces, and then we send them to our wood-drying kilns, removing moisture so the wood retains its shape and doesn’t crack or split when we work with it.
Before it heads to your home, your furniture is tested for quality and to ensure it meets the highest safety standards.
Once they have a sense of your needs, they can suggest furniture arrangements, offer fabric and leather options, and help you select furniture finishes. They can design custom window treatments and recommend accents— from beautiful, like rugs and lighting, to practical, like a handcrafted mattress.

We map out your space, customizing it with accurate measurements, fitting in doors, windows, and other architectural features. Then, we begin to lay it out in a way that makes traffic flow smoothly while creating a sense of harmony and balance. We add furniture, shown in our most popular fabrics and finishes, and finishing touches, like artwork and décor. Making about 75% of our products in our North American workshops is definitely about quality—but it also ensures that every process is designed to preserve our planet for future generations. We source wood as close to our workshops as possible; about half comes from the Northeast near our Vermont workshops, with most of the rest coming from the southeastern U.S. nearer to our lumber inspection center in Old Fort, North Carolina. In our Vermont workshops, we use recycled biomass—chips and sawdust leftover from making furniture—to cogenerate electricity for our wood-drying kilns. For the rest, we prioritize power from renewable energy sources.
