Dear Members, HAPPY NEW YEAR!
As we welcome 2023, let us usher in the New Year with renewed hopes for better things to come in the year of the Rabbit!
First off, I would like to thank our members for their steadfast support throughout 2022. This past year was one of renewal for the Club, with multiple large scale works to improve existing facilities like the Sports Complex Renovation, New Practice Chipping Green, New Reception Area and Members Lounge being completed in record time, despite the labour crunch caused by the pandemic. Kudos to our staff as well, for giving their all to provide members with the best club experience. They truly embody the Seletar spirit that we are all so proud of.
In other staff related news, the Club held its Annual Staff Day on 28 November 2022. Due to pandemic related restrictions, this event was not held for the past few years. Needless to say, the staff were ecstatic to have a day to get to know each other better. Many thanks to our Staff Recreation Committee (SRC) members for their effort in putting the above together.
GOLFING MATTERS
Following on from our Gold Coast Golf trip in August, our ladies took a short trip to Batam from 29 to 30 October 2022. They played golf at both Tering Bay Golf & Country Club and Palm Springs Golf & Country Club. We had an active calendar when it came to Club golfing events, with the Captain’s & Lady Captain’s Prize, Generation Classic, and last but certainly not least, the Christmas Golf Special taking place one after another. I am truly pleased to see events back in full swing, with the Golf Course and Club in general buzzing with activities.
Speaking of golfing events, the SGA ICL Selection Trials were concluded on 4 December. We thank members for their support and enthusiasm in representing the Club.
The Club recently hosted evaluators from the Asia Top 100 Golf Courses panel. The seasoned evaluators came from different parts of Asia including Singapore, Japan, China, and Korea. The Club is continually working hard to make sure our golf course is in the best condition to be ranked amongst the best in Asia. I am hopeful for a positive outcome from the numerous rounds of evaluations.
Over the past few months, the Green Sub-Committee (GSC) has expanded our list of Overseas Affiliated Clubs including Tropicana, The Cut, Link Hope, and Ria Bintan, for our members’ benefit. The GSC will continue to work steadfastly in bringing onboard more affiliated Clubs.
In other Golf Course related matters, a Tree Planting Ceremony was held on 5 December 2022. A total of 8 trees were planted at various parts of the course. We thank the members who graciously sponsored the trees which I am sure will prove to be stunning additions to our award-winning Golf Course. Meanwhile, the GSC is working closely with the Course Maintenance team to continually explore ways to improve the conditions of the greens adjacent to the bunkers. In addition to the ongoing Gotong Royong exercise from members volunteers, the Club has engaged 7 contracted staff to conduct 2-3 hours daily of weeding efforts on the fairways.
FESTIVE SEASON ACTIVITIES
Outside of the Golf Course, the Club held a number of events to celebrate the year end festive season. Our Christmas Light Up & Fair event was held on 26 November 2022. Response was overwhelming, with many partaking in the associated activities like the Balloon Sculpting, Face Sculpting and Guided Club Tours etc. We capped off the evening with our traditional Christmas tree Light Up event at the Main Lobby. Separately, our Sports & Social team held a number of festive seasons related activities, like the Christmas Snow Globe Workshop.
FESTIVE DECORATIONS
As is tradition in past years, the Club spared no effort in transforming the Main Clubhouse Lobby into a Winter Wonderland. We have received numerous compliments of the spectacular decorations. Many thanks to our staff who never fail to surprise us with their creativity, and I look forward to seeing what they have planned for Chinese New Year.
CHINESE NEW YEAR F&B PROMOTIONS
Part of the appeal of Chinese New Year is a well-deserved feast with our family and friends. To that end, our F&B team have worked their socks off to come up with a plethora of promotions. If you are unable to dine-in with us, please do consider our takeaway promotions and bring a taste of festive Seletar home to your loved ones.
CLOSING REMARKS
Lastly, I would like to wish all our members and friends celebrating the Chinese New Year, Gong Xi Fa Cai! In the Year of the Rabbit, may we all be abundantly blessed with good fortune and the best of health this year.
Stay Safe and Happy Golfing!
HO JUAN HENG Captain

Introducing BENNY HUANG & ERIC LEE
BENNY HUANG Manager, Sports & Social
Prior to joining Seletar Country Club, I have worked in places like Orchid Country Club and NTUC Club. My specialty is in member engagement, which I have been doing for over 7 years now. In my capacity as Manager, Sports & Social, I oversee a team whom I work with closely to manage the Sports & Social facilities and programmes, plus organizing events for members. It’s always a pleasure to be of service to our members and make an impact on their lives through engagement, and helping members achieve happiness and fulfilment through our offerings. It has been a delight engaging members who have been kind, warm and appreciative. I’m looking forward to fully immersing myself into the role and organising more exciting programmes, events, and activities for members, while implementing new ideas and plans.
ERIC LEE Manager, Golf & Events
Before joining Seletar Country Club, I used to work for SportSG, SAFRA & NTUC Club. At SportSG, I was involved in the process of introducing new competitions for the Youth. At SAFRA, I oversaw the operations of the Tampines Clubhouse, ranging from events and facilities to tenant offerings. My stint at NTUC Club saw me managing the U Sports department. I organised sporting activities for union members including golf events and competitions such as the U Games Golf 36-hole Championships, 9-Hole Night Golf, and Learn-ToGolf sessions.
What attracted me to work at Seletar Country Club was the great culture with friendly members and colleagues, of which I had already heard plenty of from my friends. With a newly renovated golf course and refreshed club facilities, the Club also struck me as an enterprising organisation committed to delivering
high quality products and services to its members and guests.
On a day-to-day basis, my role at Seletar Country Club involves me organizing fun activities to engage members. I also manage corporate event bookings and enquiries. I work closely with our Golf operations and customer service team to ensure bookings and enquiries are wellmanaged so that all members and guests enjoy their golf sessions.
While every job has its set of challenges, the members and colleagues at Seletar Country Club have been nothing short of friendly and hospitable. There is a good sense of energy and positivity around the Club as we continually look at ways to improve facilities and offerings to members and their guests.
Outside of work, I love spending quality time with my family and especially my kids. Personally, I enjoy playing sports such as squash and bowling. If possible, I also hope to play more golf in the future.

In this issue of Seletar Buzz, let us introduce you to 2 new staff who have recently joined our big family at Seletar Country Club. If you happen to see them around the Club, do not hesitate to say hi!
ANNUAL STAFF DAY 2022
Due to pandemic related restrictions, we have not been able to hold our Annual Staff Day for a number of years. Since the easing of restrictions in the earlier part of the year, the Club has gradually resumed a number of activities and events. With that in mind, the Staff Recreation Committee (SRC) decided to take full advantage of the relaxed restrictions and put together a day’s worth of exciting activities for our staff on Monday, 28 November 2022.
The entire Club was closed for the day, which allowed all staff to participate in the day’s proceedings. They were provided with a choice of activities to participate in, including a guided tour of our award-winning 18-hole Golf course and an introduction to the basics of Golfing at the Driving Range, amongst others. The Club’s facilities were made available for staff usage, including the Bowling Alley, Karaoke Lounge, Mahjong Room and Tennis Courts. Lunch was catered for staff, along with complimentary fruits, snacks and drinks.
The day concluded with a Dinner & Dance at the Seletar Room. The theme for the night was Retro, with most staff sporting enough to come dressed in their 60s, 70s & 80s era outfits. There was even a photobooth with fun props for staff to strike up interesting poses with. As the evening’s proceedings started, staff tucked into a sumptuous buffet spread featuring a variety of local classics. Our Emcee, Happy Fei Fei, continually wowed the audience with her repertoire of skills. The charming and bubbly comedienne’s antics and show-stealing performances had everyone in stitches and rolling down the aisle in laughter and merriment time and again! On top of that, the Club’s management team put up a stupendous dance performance that got everyone up on their feet. The night ended with a prize presentation ceremony for those who were lucky enough to win the top 20 prizes. A huge thank you to the SRC for putting together such a successful event!
As the Club was closed for the day, we also want to thank members for their kind understanding and support.

GENERATION CLASSIC FINALS
After much anticipation, the Generation Classic Finals were held on Saturday, 3 December 2022. It was an afternoon timesheet start, with our golfers being blessed by exceptionally good weather before the game officially commenced. Throughout the game, the weather held up as well. This allowed the full game to be completed without any hiccups, which was absolutely fantastic for everyone involved. After which, the golfers took some time to refresh themselves before heading to the Seletar Room for the evening’s proceedings. Instead of a typical buffet spread or conventional sit-down multicourse dinner, guests were greeted with a hotpot style setup at each table, courtesy of our sponsor, Haidilao International Holding Ltd. It was immediately
clear that everyone was ecstatic at participating in this communal style dining experience, with many taking full advantage of the generous supply of quality ingredients and accompaniments provided. To top it off, service was provided by Haidilao’s very own staff. It was as close as you could get to dining at one of their restaurants without actually being there yourself. While enjoying their hotpot dinners, guests were entertained by Haidilao’s trademark Face Changing or “Bian Lian” performance, which clearly captivated most of the audience. As usual, the programme ended with a lucky draw where the winners walked away with a number of really attractive prizes courtesy of Haidilao. The winners of the golf game were also honoured with trophies being presented on stage. It truly was a memorable evening for all involved.

LADIES GET TOGETHER IN BATAM
From Saturday, 29 October till Sunday, 30 October 2022, 24 of our Ladies made their way to Batam Island in Indonesia to check out the golf courses at both Tering Bay Golf & Country Club and Palm Springs Golf & Country Club. This trip was organised by Lady Captain, Angelia Lim and the Ladies Sub-Committee. The weather remained pristine throughout the trip, which allowed the group to fully enjoy the best of what both golf courses had to offer. The trip ended on a high note, with a variety of fun games that engaged everyone in the evening before their return to Singapore the very next day. The entire group immensely enjoyed themselves both on and off the course. Stay tuned to this space for more as the Ladies Sub-Committee have more trips for our Ladies in the works for 2023 and beyond!

CAPTAIN & LADY CAPTAIN’S PRIZE
Since restrictions are now lifted, the Club was able to bring back the Captain & Lady Captain’s Prize event in full force. In typical fashion, it was an afternoon shotgun golf game followed by a dinner.
While there was rain initially, it stopped right before a group photo was taken at the Putting Green area. After which, both Captains waved the golfers off as they drove to their respective assigned holes to wait for the shotgun start. Halfway through their game, Golfers were able to cool down with an ice-cream break at the Starter’s Hut and refuel themselves with a sumptuous spread of hot food items at the Crossover point.
GOLF

To spice things up, it was decided to go with a Korean theme for the dinner. Both Captains and the organizing sub-committee members were dressed to impress in their traditional Korean costumes. They even performed a march-in to kickstart the evening’s proceedings. Our guests definitely received the memo on dress code as well, since most of them also came dressed to the nines in their own unique traditional Korean costumes. A photobooth was set up at the reception area of Seletar Room and it was truly heartening to see everyone taking turns to make use of the props provided to strike a variety of poses.
In lieu of an opening speech, both Captains held a fireside chat instead. It was definitely a good move, as the audience got to know the both of them on a very personal level. Everyone then tucked into an authentic Korean feast that had been painstakingly prepared by our F&B team. The dinner programme then concluded with an exciting quiz and table games.

CHRISTMAS GOLF SPECIAL
We held the Christmas Golf Special on Saturday, 17 December 2022.
One of the highlights of this year’s Christmas Golf Special was definitely the “Best Dressed Buggy” competition. Many of our participants made it a point to reach early in order to decorate their respective buggies. It was truly an eye opener to see the buggies being dressed up in a myriad of Christmas themed elements, with many proud to show off their works of art.
With a shotgun start (Format: Texas Scramble), everyone set off punctually onto the Golf Course in jovial spirits. Sadly, mother nature had other plans in store for us. What was initially a light drizzle soon transformed into a heavy downpour. Due to the inclement weather, the game was called off. However, we would not let the rain dampen our spirits. The entire group proceeded straight to the Trellis, where a sumptuous Christmas feast featuring classics like Bread Pudding, Beef Ribs, Roast Chicken and Gammon Ham awaited them. A bar was also set up where F&B staff were on hand to create a range of customized drinks for members. It was truly heartwarming to see everyone tucking into the delicious food and soaking up the festive atmosphere.

Meanwhile, our very own Santa & Santarina went around giving out celebratory drinks, with many taking the opportunity to pose for photographs with them. Thank you, Francis, Green Sub-Committee member, for volunteering to be the Santa!
A lucky draw spin & win was also held, with many walking away with extremely attractive prizes. After the event, winners of the “Best Dressed Golf Buggy” & “Best Dressed Male & Female Golfer” were announced on our Golf Telegram channel. Congratulations to all of our winners!

Prizes were also awarded for best-dressed and best-showmanship performances, and all participants walked away with a bottle of wine at the end of the event.

CHRISTMAS LIGHT UP & FAIR
To take full advantage of the easing of restrictions, we held our first ever Christmas Light Up & Fair at the Main Clubhouse Lobby on Saturday, 26 November 2022. What better way to kick off the year end festive season than with a traditional fair and judging from the crowd, they clearly thought the same too. Visitors were spoilt for choice, with a plethora of activities to entertain both the young and old alike. The littlest ones were not forgotten, with activities on the side for them. There was an astonishing variety of both local and international vendors at the Christmas Fair, just in time for some muchneeded festive shopping. Some highlights of the fair included Balloon sculpting, Face-painting, a choir performance and a magic show. There were even guided tours conducted for interested members of the public. Meanwhile, there was free popcorn and candy provided throughout. The festive night was capped off with a traditional Light Up that was initiated by Club Chairman, Kelvin Chia.

With the completion of the Bowling Masters Qualifying Rounds in November, 9 male and 9 female bowlers who qualified for the finals showcased their outstanding skills in the most prestigious SCC bowling event of the year: SCC Bowling Annual Masters Championship 2022. Each player played and accumulated scores through 16 games over 2 days, where the new male champion, Jeremiah Tan, and new female champion, Ling Seah, emerged triumphantly.
The annual Bowling Awards Night was then held on the evening of the 2nd day, which saw more than 80 bowlers with their family and guests gathering and celebrating the year’s bowling achievements. The team captains who had worked hard to lead the SCC bowling community were recognised, and many awards for In-House Bowling League were presented as well, including individual and team High Game, High Series and overall winners. With the conclusion of the Bowling Masters Championship, it was a bittersweet moment as Jason Toh announced he would be stepping down as League Director. His dedication and outstanding
contributions were recognised on stage by Sports and Social Sub-committee member Patrick Ong.
Along with a delicious buffet, participants enjoyed a night of entertainment as well with table games and stage games. A lucky draw was also conducted which saw many winners walking away with attractive prizes. The night was concluded with a heart-warming karaoke session where everyone was gathered to the front of the stage and sang Peng You by Emil Chau, celebrating the close-knit nature of the SCC bowling community and commemorating the night together.

For each round, each participant was given a set amount of chips and scores were tabulated with top players from each table advancing through. After 3 rounds of elimination, the 4 finalists battled it out in the final round with Sharon Ong emerging triumphally as champion after almost 8 hours of play. The competition was made possible through the generous sponsorship of automatic Mahjong tables for the event by Pongponghu.sg. Each participant got to bring home a bottle of wine, and for members who did not advance into the further rounds, complimentary leisure play was arranged so that all could continue enjoying playing throughout the event.

Bodegas Muga Rioja Blanco 2021
$55.90 (M) / $65.90 (P)
Region: Rioja, Spain
Grapes: Viura, Garnacha blanca and Malvasía de Rioja
Tasting Note: A lemon-yellow colored wine with green glints that reveal its youth. On the nose, we find a clean, floral wine which is reminiscent of almond blossom, with citrus notes of American lime and faint underlying toasted nuances. On the palate, the wine is fresh with very good acidity and a long finish, wrapping the mouth with reminders of white- fleshed Golden Delicious apples.
Food Pairing: Perfect match for vegetable dishes, rice, fish and shellfish, tapas.

Tasting Note: Medium rubyred color with brick highlights. Attractive blueberry, cherry, plum and forest berry fruit aromas with a hint of liquorice and chocolate. The mediumbodied palate offers a lovely balance of ripe red and black fruit with hints of chocolate and roasted coffee beans, silky tannins and a lingering finish.

Driven by innovation and the desire to improve the lives of our employees and members, Seletar Country Club has introduced cleaning robots. Our cleaning robots are designed to support the existing cleaning crew with manual work while enabling them to better perform their supervisory duties. They help to speed up the cleaning tasks while delivering greater cleaning consistency. The robots are also able to operate autonomously and are even able to self-learn and improve their performance upon each activation. To top if off, all the robots can be linked and assigned to work together. Please say hello to our robots if you happen to see them!
