Dear Members,
I have plenty of positive news to share regarding the present state of improvement works at the Club. Since being elected to office last year, the current Management Committee (MC) promptly embarked on several major projects in particular, the refurbishing of the Sports Complex. Just over a year later, I am delighted to say that we have accomplished that and more. Since it’s official reopening in late June, I have received overwhelmingly good comments from members regarding the renovated Sports Complex. Most agreed a revamp was long overdue and are now proud to invite their guests to experience the refurbished facility.

The last quarter was an especially eventful one for Seletar Country Club. We held our 34th Annual General Meeting (AGM) on Friday, 15th July 2022. In line with the Government’s regulations and taking into consideration the still fluid Covid situations, this year’s AGM was once again held in a hybrid manner. Hopefully, we will be able to go back to holding a physical in-person AGM next year!

On the golfing side, we have finally opened the new Practice Chipping Green Facility. We understand that practice facilities are important to golfers. GENERAL UPDATES
In recent months, we have also welcomed new F&B partners to the Seletar family. After lengthy discussions and a protracted renovation process that encountered several delays due to the pandemic, Famous Palace and Jō Restaurant are now fully opened to members and
We have also commenced work on the existing Reading Room to convert it into a spanking new Members Lounge. Once completed, the space will be distinctly different from its current form. If the artist impressions are anything to go by, we are in for a real treat! Lastly, the current Main Reception area will be updated with a more contemporary look that will introduce more vibrancy to the lobby of the Main Clubhouse.
Since the easing of restrictions, we have brought back a host of social and golf events that used to be perennial favorites on the Club’s annual calendar of events. This includes the New Members Night (our last edition was held on Wednesday, 6 July 2022), Swinging Senior Golf Day, and National Day Golf Competition which you can read more about in this issue. There is more to come and we already have a whole range of activities lined up over the next few months.

NEW MEMBERS NIGHT
Following the hugely successful New Members Nights on Wednesday, 1 & 22 June 2022 respectively, our last New Members Night took place on Wednesday, 6 July 2022. Long time Members of the Club will know that this is a highly anticipated social activity on the Club’s annual calendar of events. Primarily, it serves the purpose of introducing the Club’s newer members to both the Management Committee (MC) and Management Team of Seletar Country Club. Given the undisputed success of the recent New Members Nights on 1 & 22 June, it was natural for there to be a steady anticipation amongst everyone in the days leading up to 6 July 2022. The staff worked their socks off to organize a spectacular event for invited Members. The MC were immensely excited to meet and give them a warm welcome to the Club too.
As is tradition, eligible Members were invited to partake in a oneoff Golf Game that took place after lunch and would last till late noon. After the Golf Game, invited Members were greeted with an elaborate setup in the
beautiful Seletar Room. After registration, Members were then invited to partake in a round of cocktails. The main programme commenced with our Club Chairman, Mr. Kelvin Chia taking to the stage to introduce himself and the rest of the MC. This was followed by the Club’s Deputy General Manager (DGM), Mr. Chan Lee Hock introducing herself and the rest of the Management Team. After which, Members were invited to indulge themselves in a luxurious dinner buffet spread featuring many local favorites from both self-serve and live cooking stations. While tucking into the delicious food, everyone was serenaded by superb tunes from live bands who sang a collection of their classic tunes. The lucky draw has always been the most anticipated segment of past New Members Nights and it was no different on 6 July 2022. It was certainly gratifying to watch the elation on the faces of Members who were lucky enough to walk away with the exciting prizes on offer. Members were allowed to continue mingling with each other long after the official programme had ended. For all involved, it was a truly satisfying evening with memories made that would last for years to come.

Since the pandemic started, hybrid virtual events have been adopted by many organizations around the world. Not only do they help to safeguard the wellbeing of everyone by minimizing exposure but leveraging on technology also allows companies to run the event in a more accomplished and efficient manner. The Management Committee (MC) Members for the term 2021/2023 turned out in full force to not only show their support, but also to help officiate the event. As it was a non-voting year, proceedings were kept relatively simple in nature. Once the quorum had been reached, the AGM was well underway without any delay.
Our 34th Annual General Meeting that took place on Friday, 15th July 2022 was Seletar Country Club’s second-ever hybrid virtual AGM, after the first one on Saturday, 3rd July 2021.

Invited guests were treated to a spectacular opening ceremony on 27 July 2022, which kicked off with a dazzling Lion Dance troupe performance that set the tone and stage for a truly memorable occasion. After the rousing presentation, everyone indulged in a luxurious buffet lunch spread that featured many of Famous Palace’s signature dishes. There was also a counter with various types of alcoholic beverages.

During our June one-day event, I also had the same positive experience in working with the staff and team. Ms. Meiyan communicated with me very clearly on the set up and requirements, and Mr. Hilton led his staff in providing us with a comfortable environment and helped with everything we needed last minute for our event. The participants had a great time.

Mr. Hilton met us the day before our wedding to run through the program with us and advise us on the procedures. When we arrived on Saturday, the bridal room was prepared according to our requests, and the banquet hall had been set up well. His service was professional and excellent, and so was his service team.
I also wish to commend Seletar Country Club’s professionalism in conducting the golf handicap for members. Our sincerest appreciation to MR. SUFANDY who conducted the workshop effectively and demonstrated patience to explain the dos and don’ts on the course. He was extremely helpful to each one of us, despite the issues encountered throughout. As for myself, he went out of his way to contact my previous club to reactivate my account with SHA CHS. He carried out his duties so efficiently and promptly that everything seems to flow so smoothly as compared to my previous club (not to mention name).
We also want to commend the chef and kitchen staff for the delicious food they prepared. It exceeded expectations,ourand we received many positive comments from our guests on this.
Because of the great experience that we have had, we will recommend Seletar Country Club to our friends in the future too.

After the golf game, members were invited to partake in pre-dinner cocktails. Once everyone was seated, Emcee Happy Fei Fei took to the stage to give everyone a warm welcome. With her vivacious personality, she captivated all with her jokes, dancing and singing! Our Club Captain, Mr. Ho Juan Heng, gave a rousing speech that got the crowd in the mood for the festivities ahead. While tucking into a sumptuous dinner spread featuring various local specialties, diners were entertained by face changing and belly dancing performances. Throughout, Happy Fei Fei’s bubbly comedian like antics continued to crack everyone up. The evening’s proceedings ended with a prize presentation ceremony and a lucky draw was conducted, where the top ten walked away with attractive prizes. Even as the official programme ended, many continued to mingle. Many left the event with smiles on their faces and remarked they were already looking forward to next year’s Swinging Senior Golf Day.
In the morning on Wednesday, 20th July 2022, eligible members were invited to a play a game of golf that would last for the entire day. Unfortunately, the weather has a way of disrupting even the best-laid plans. The heavens opened and inundated the golf course with rain. While we feared the worst, conditions improved quickly enough for us to continue with the competition in the afternoon. This undoubtedly brought a smile to everyone's faces.

Long time members of Seletar Country Club will know that the Swinging Senior Golf Day used to be one of the most sought-after social events on the annual calendar of events. No thanks to the sudden onset of the pandemic in early 2020, many social activities (including the Swinging Senior Golf Day) were abruptly grounded to a halt, with no tangible resumption date in sight. Fast forward to 2022 and Singapore has not only survived, but successfully recovered from the darkest days of the pandemic. Once restrictions were suitably relaxed, the Club made plans to resume a host of activities and events, with the Swinging Senior Golf Day quite high on the list of priorities.
Celebrated in conjunction with our Nation’s Birthday on 9th August every year, the National Day Golf Competition is a valuable opportunity for members to come together to celebrate this significant moment in our country’s history. This year’s National Day Golf Competition is also notable for being the first one held since 2017. As restrictions had been eased earlier in the year, the Club was given the greenlight to organize larger scale events.
After the conclusion of the golf game, members started arriving in ever increasing numbers to the Seletar Room. The mood was hugely upbeat, with many excited to watch the National Day Parade live together with fellow members for the first time in years. In keeping with the National Day theme, a sumptuous buffet spread featuring numerous classic Singapore dishes was prepared for everyone’s enjoyment. There were also live cooking stations and even a member of staff preparing local drinks like Teh Tarik.

As soon as the National Day Parade got underway proper, the crowd immediately returned to their seats. This year’s parade did not disappoint, with epic displays from all the performers involved. The ceremony was capped with beautiful fireworks that got everyone on their feet. It was especially heartening to see the crowd reciting the pledge and singing the national anthem with such fervor and passion. Before the programme officially ended, our Club Chairman, Mr. Kelvin Chia, gave out prizes to the select few lucky draw winners.

The event on Tuesday, 9th August 2022 started with a golf game right at noon. As the golfers assembled for the shotgun start, it was truly a spectacular sight to see all of them dressed to kill in their respective National Day outfits. As far as the eye could see, it was a sea of red and white. Thankfully, the weather played its part in allowing for perfect conditions to play the game. It helped with improving the pace of play too.

Throughout the month of June, a Tennis Balls Recycling Campaign was conducted amongst the members of Seletar Country Club. This initiative aims to find a new life for millions of used tennis balls to save the planet and benefit the community. Members were encouraged to drop their old used tennis balls in a special bin located near the tennis courts.
A total of 402 tennis balls were collected from members. These balls have been sent to Yellowship.sg, a non-profit organization that gives these balls a new lease on life by repurposing them for other uses, and popular tennis ball brand Teloon Singapore which also has recycling initiatives. We thank our members for participating in this initiative and doing their part to conserve the environment.

There are many reasons why butterflies are important, both in their own right but also as quality-of-life indicators. They also play crucial roles in the food chain as well as being pollinators of plants.

SELETAR GIVES BACK
Seletar Country Club has always been an ardent supporter of Ray of Hope’s mission is to build and inspire a community to give hope to those who have fallen through the cracks. One of the numerous ways in which we support them is through physically volunteering ourselves to help with their various initiatives. Recently, members and staff of Seletar Country Club did their part in giving back to the community by delivering packs of essential household items to 24 families across the island. Members arrived at the Ray of Hope warehouse where they were briefed on general dos and don’ts when delivering the care packs. These packs were then collected from storage and distributed among 6 different vehicles for delivery. On behalf of the Club, we thank them our members and staff for their invaluable community service.

Our latest Brisk Walk at the Golf Course took place on Monday, 1 August 2022, with a total of 37 participants. It offers participants an unprecedented look (especially for non-golfers) at the award winning Seletar Golf Course. During the walk, we were greeted with clear skies and relatively cool temperatures. Everyone had fun strolling around the Golf Course whilst engaging in cheerful banter. At the end of the walk, the entire group were rewarded with a spectacular sunset.

Subsequently, a 12-week yoga programme commenced, where participants learned basic flow as well as stretches aimed at allowing members to improve their golf swing. Tania is a charismatic and engaging yoga teacher. She practices Ashtanga yoga as it improves flexibility, increases strength, and builds stamina at the same time. Most importantly, it strengthens core muscles which help improved her posture. Ashtanga allows her to follow a routine for steady progression while calming the mind with good breath control.
