HIGHLIGHTS

Dear Fellow Seletarians, The Covid restrictions which lasted more than two years had severely stifled the activities of our Club and has had its impact on the Club. It is with great relief that we welcome the recent easing of a lot of the Covid restrictions. With the easing of restrictions, we are now able to bring back a host of activities. We are hoping to see, in particular, more golfing and social events. During the pandemic, the Club’s F&B bore the brunt of the impact. I am thankful to Members for your continued support of our F&B outlets throughout the pandemic. Your support has helped to soften the financial impact of the unexpected F&B closures throughout the past 2 years. Our F&B will continue to strive to provide better food and better service. There will, however, be unavoidable and necessary adjustments to prices due to the increased costs from suppliers, and rising manpower and energy costs which I hope Members will understand.

CLUB IMPROVEMENT WORKS After months of hard work by the staff and management of Seletar Country Club, we are finally ready to launch the newly renovated Sports Complex. The Sports Complex was beginning to look a little tired. Renovation plans and work quickly commenced with the contractors completing the necessary work in the shortest possible time. The renovated Sports Complex was officially opened on Saturday, 25 June 2022 in conjunction with a Summer Pool Party organised by the Sports & Social Team. You can read more about on Page 7.

FIRST WORDS

I had earlier written that our F&B will continue to strive to provide better food and better service. This includes not just making improvements to the menus in the Terrace and the Tavern but also bringing in outside established restaurants to introduce different cuisines and dining experiences for our members. Most of you would have known by now that a restaurant that specializes in Nanyang cuisine and another in Japanese would start operation in the Club sometime in the 3rd or 4th quarter of this year. Renovations of these restaurants are nearing completion now.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Annual General Meeting (AGM) is around the corner and members would have received the Notice of AGM in your Club-registered email address. The COVID-19 situation is still fluid and so this year’s AGM will be also held virtually. This forthcoming AGM will mark a year since the election of the current MC in 2021. As we approach the halfway mark of our 2-year term, I would like to express my deepest gratitude to my fellow MC members and the staff of the Club. They have all worked very hard and have introduced many changes and made improvements to the Club. I am also deeply appreciative of the support from Members and look forward to your continued support as we continue on our journey to make Seletar Country Club the club that we are all proud to be members of.

FIRE DRILL EXERCISE ON 13 JUNE

Workplace safety is not something that can be neglected. How people behave in high-pressure situations, such as fires, can vary but this factor can be hugely important when it comes to effective evacuation. Fire drills allow staff to practice evacuation procedures in a simulated situation to ensure they are fully aware of how to safely exit the building. The more familiar staff are with fire drill procedures, the higher the chance that staff remain safe and well during an emergency. Regular fire drills will help to underpin the correct procedures, removing panic and uncertainty for all concerned. With the above in mind, we held a Fire Drill Exercise on the morning of Monday, 13 June 2022. The morning’s proceedings started off with a Tabletop Exercise involving members of the Fire Safety Committee. This was followed by the actual Fire Drill, where staff were required to gather at the designated assembly area. Our Fire Wardens then proceeded to demonstrate on how to properly use the Fire Extinguishers, with some staff invited to practice using them.

WHITE TEA FRAGRANCE OIL AND MASSAGE CHAIRS IN THE

CHANGING ROOMS

As part of the Club’s continuous efforts and dedication to improving it’s offerings, White Tea Fragrance Oils and Massage Chairs were recently introduced to the Changing Rooms at both the Main Clubhouse and Sports Complex respectively. These were selected after rigorous rounds of selection and approvals process as the Club is committed to only bringing in the very best amenities for its Members. White Tea is the perfect fragrance to enhance the overall sensory experience as it helps create a sense of calm and an inviting environment for lasting memories to form. Meanwhile, the Massage Chairs come equipped with unique sensors that detect nuances like shoulder position and body contours more accurately to offer massage therapy that is customized to each individual. We hope that Members will enjoy and make full use of these newly provided amenities.

NEW F&B MENU WITH W.E.F. FRIDAY, ADJUSTED PRICES 1 JULY 2022 Dear Members

Thank you for your support for Seletar Terrace and Tavern. The Club endeavors to provide quality dishes and the best service we can for our members and guests and so, from Friday, 1 July 2022, there will be a relatively small price adjustment in our food & beverage and corkage prices. This is due to the increased cost from our suppliers, and also rising manpower and energy costs. Despite our best efforts to mitigate these rising costs, the past few months have been challenging for the Club and the price adjustment is necessary for us to maintain our commitment to our members and guests.

As part of the launch of our new menu which will be available from Friday, 1 July 2022, we are pleased to introduce a plethora of new dishes like the Pig’s Trotter Bee Hoon, Wagyu Beef Charcoal Bun Burger, Australian Free-Range Pork Rack, Oxtail Stew, Pan Seared Beef Striploin and more. We understand the price adjustment affects all members that support our F&B outlets, please rest assured that the Club will strive to optimise our operational cost. After a long hiatus due to the golf course renovation and pandemic, the New Members Night was finally resumed on both Wednesday, 1 & 22 June 2022 respectively. Long time Members of the Club will know that this is a highly anticipated social activity on the Club’s annual calendar of events. Primarily, it serves the purpose of introducing the Club’s newer members to both the Management Committee (MC) and Management Team of Seletar Country Club. Given the last iteration of the New Members Night was held several years ago, it was natural for there to be a steady anticipation amongst everyone in the months and days leading up to both 1 & 22 June respectively. The staff had worked doubly hard to organize a spectacular event for our newer Members and the MC were tremendously excited to meet and give them a warm welcome to the Club. As was tradition in years past, eligible Members were invited to partake in a one-off Golf Game

that took place after lunch and would last till late noon. After the Golf Game, invited Members were greeted with an elaborate setup in the beautiful Seletar Room, which had been completely renovated since the last New Members Night was held there years back. After registration, Members were then invited to partake in a round of cocktails. The main programme commenced with our Club Chairman, Mr. Kelvin Chia taking to the stage to introduce himself and the rest of the MC. This was followed by the Club’s General Manager (GM), Ms. Goh Yong Cheng introducing herself and the rest of the Management Team. After which, Members were invited to indulge themselves in a luxurious dinner buffet spread featuring many local favorites. While tucking into the delicious food, everyone was serenaded by superb tunes from live band who sang a collection of their classic tunes. The lucky draw was always the most anticipated segment of New Members Nights in years past and it was no different on both 1 & 22 June. It was certainly gratifying to watch the elation on the faces of Members who were lucky enough to walk away with the exciting prizes on offer. As is tradition for the Club’s social activities, Members were allowed to continue mingling with each other long after the official programme had ended. For all involved, those were two truly satisfying evenings with memories made that would last for years to come.

SPORTS COMPLEX REOPENING

Following a few months of intensive renovation work, the Sports Complex’s New Look

was officially unveiled in an Opening Ceremony on Saturday, 25 June 2022. It was attended by the entire Management Committee (MC) and the Club’s Senior Management. The honor of cutting the ribbon was left to our Club Chairman, Mr. Kelvin Chia, Sports & Social Sub-Committee Chairman, Ms. Wendy Ang and Facilities Sub-Committee Chairman, Mr. Victor Yew. The ceremony was accompanied by a rousing Lion Dance Performance that captured everyone’s attention. In conjunction with the Opening Ceremony, there was a Summer Pool Party that was attended by a total of 98 participants. The general mood was boisterous, with a DJ pumping out tunes fit for the occasion. For those feeling a little peckish, there was free ice-cream and candy floss, with free hot dogs for the first 50 redemptions. A vast assortment of activities awaited the entire family to get involved in, such as several Games Booths, a Mini Bowling Challenge, a Storytelling session with the Singapore Wildcat Action Group and even a Prawning Pool with BBQ Pit. The Foam Party with Treasure Hunt and Water Obstacle Course were undoubtedly smash hits, especially with the younger ones. Additionally, there was a Quiz with prizes sponsored by Autoglym and Resorts World Singapore. Congratulations to our Prize Winners!

From Monday, 6 June to Thursday, 9 June 2022, the stunning fairways of Seletar Country Club welcomed 92 juniors across ten countries for the Singapore Junior Golf Championship 2022. After a fierce battle between players from Thailand, Indonesia, Australia, India, Canada, USA, South Korea, Malaysia, China and Singapore, Singapore’s Jaymie Ng ... Welcomed emerged as the newly crowned 92 juniors champion in the across ten countries girls’ division, with for the Singapore Harry Takis from Australia emerging Junior Golf Championship as champion in the Boys Division. 2022. Seletar Country Club was honored to host the event and congratulations to all the winners!

BRISK WALKING

AT GOLF COURSE

The Brisk Walks at the Golf Course have always been a universally popular activity at Seletar Country Club. It offers participants an unprecedented look (especially for nongolfers) at the award winning Seletar Golf Course. Our last Brisk Walk at the Golf Course activity happened on Monday, 13 June 2022. It was our first time holding the event over 2 sessions at 5pm and 6pm respectively. We managed to carry out the walk at 5pm, however due to lightning alert the second session had to be cancelled. As every walk offers potentially different views of the Golf course, we encourage members to join us for each edition of this activity. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for the next Brisk Walking activity.

It offers participants an unprecedented look (especially for non-golfers) at the award winning Seletar Golf Course.

BAK ZHANG DEMO A Bak Zhang Demo Class was conducted on Thursday, 2 June 2022 by our very own member, Ms. Grace Foo in celebration of this year’s Dumpling Festival. The Dumpling Festival (端午节 “Duan Wu Jie”), or Dragon Boat Festival, is celebrated on the fifth day of the fifth month of the Chinese lunar calendar. This year, the Dragon Boat Festival 2022 fell on Friday 3 June 2022.

A total of 12 participants attended the Bak Zhang Demo Class. They were all taught Grace’s highly sought after Bak Zhang recipe and equally important, on how to effectively wrap a completed dumpling before proceeding to the steaming process. Our Sports & Social Chairman, Ms. Wendy Ang, also taught her traditional dumpling recipe to our participants. Everyone went home with a dumpling made by Grace herself as well as raw ingredients to steam the dumplings on their own at home.

MIXED DOUBLES FUN BOWL

The Mixed Doubles Fun Bowl took place on Sunday, 19 June 2022. It was held over 2 sessions with a grand total of 16 pairs participating in our second fun bowling event of the year. The competition aside, it was nice to see our Seletar bowling community turn out in full force to show their support for this event. We certainly look forward to seeing all of you at future bowling events. TENNIS MATCH PLAY Compared to past iterations, our quarterly Tennis Match Play events have now been expanded into new categories. We also took the opportunity to invite other Clubs including the Chinese Swimming Club and Singapore Island Country Club to participate in our most recent Tennis Match Play events during the June School Holidays. By competing against players from other Clubs, it allows our own players to hone their techniques and diversify their skillsets. It was truly gratifying to see so many examples of exemplary skill and sportsmanship being showcased at all the events by the players. Seletar Country Club would like to thank everyone who participated for their contributions in making our recent Match Play events a roaring success. Also, congratulations to our winners below!

JUNIOR TENNIS CAMP The Junior Tennis Camp was held during the recent June School Holidays. There were 3 sessions held during the month of June, with each session held over 1 week. In total, 16 participants attended the Tennis Camp. Each Camp was geared towards different skill levels, with the aim of improving every child’s technical skill and proficiency levels. On their part, the kids certainly had fun practicising different drills as well as rallying with other students.
