New Golf Course
A peek into our
a peek into our golf course! Seletar’s beloved golf course will soon be undergoing a makeover – holes will be redesigned and additional features can be expected. Our aim is to create a memorable course with a unique British isle flavor that is also environmentally dramatic. Members can also expect to see more water elements incorporated to highlight the natural landscape of our course so that it creates a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere. At the end of the makeover, we look forward to a new course that is more competitive and ready to host major golf championships in the future. With the continued support of our members, we hope to uphold a course that has even more character compared to what we have today! In the Seletar Buzz May/June issue, you have read about the Design Philosophy created by our architect, Golfplan. In this issue, we have compiled a special hole-by-hole feature developed by Golfplan. Read on to find out more!
HOLE 1 - PAR 4
HOLE 2 - PAR 3
Original Design: The hole had two bunkers short left behind the row of large trees. The trees unfairly block the shot from the bunkers. There was also a fairway bunker on the right side at the landing area and another front left of the green.
Original Design: A fairly straightforward long par 3 with no bunkers.
Golfplan Design: We have removed one fairway bunker to the left, repositioned the other and added one beyond and to the right of the fairway framing the landing area. The trees on the left are large and will pose a hazard to the tee shot favoring the left side of the fairway. We have regraded the approach to the green to open up the visibility to the left bunker and front of the green. A large mound right in front of the green will taper into the surface of the green presenting a challenging pin position on the right of the green.
Golfplan Design: We have enlarged all tees, added a back tee to increase length and re-positioned the ladies tee in line with the other tees. The green surrounds have been regraded to accommodate the lengthening of Hole 14. In doing so, we have added much more links contouring around the green, showcasing grass hollows and mounds. The fairway has been reduced in size, adding more rough and increasing the difficulty of the tee shot. A bunker has been added to the right of the center of the green creating more challenge and strategy to the pin location.

HOLE 3 - PAR 4
HOLE 4 - PAR 5

Golfplan Design: Completely new golf hole to accommodate the 15m public access. This will be a very challenging hole. A long (400m) par 4 over water. A fairway bunker to the left of the landing area forces golfers to favor the right side and brings the water more into play on the second shot. Plenty of room to bail out short and left of the green for the average golfer. The green will sit tight to the water with a large bunker behind.
Golfplan Design: A completely new par 5 golf hole wrapping around a new lake. The large new lake provides much needed water storage while creating a beautiful and highly dramatic golf hole. Lots of risks versus rewards here for the golfer on top of his game. A fairway bunker at the first landing area requires golfers to be accurate off the tee and brings the water more into play.

HOLE 5 - PAR 4
HOLE 6 - PAR 3
Original Design: N/A
Original Design: A fairly straight forward par 3 with bunkers surrounding the green that are not very visible.
Golfplan Design: A completely new golf hole. Very short and very strategic. Somewhat of an island green short par 4 that is not realistically reachable. A lay up hole depending on what club the player wants to hit in to the green. The longer the tee shot the more hazards to contend with. Smart play is an iron layup short of all the sand. We feel this will become one of the most memorable and talked about holes on the golf course.
Golfplan Design: Re-configure tees for greater surface area and some additional length. New bunkering to add more strategic pin positions. Hollows and mounding to be incorporated around the green.

HOLE 7 - PAR 5
HOLE 8 - PAR 4
Original Design: N/A
Original Design: Two fairway bunkers along the right side of the fairway but nearly invisible. A small bunker left front of the green that is not very visible.
Golfplan Design: Extend back tee for additional length. Enlarge lake to right for additional water storage. Re-contour fairway to provide better visibility to water. Create water fall dropping vertically behind the green and then flowing around the left side and front of the green. This hole will have a fairway bunker framing the second landing area and another at the back left of the green, penalizing any bailout from the water hugging the front and left of the green.

Hole-by-Hole Feature
Golfplan Design: We have eliminated one bunker and repositioned the other fairway bunker on the right. Rather than catch the short right shot, we are putting a premium on accuracy and length. If you challenge the long shot, you must be accurate as well. We have regraded the approach to better see the green surface and reconfigured the bunkering and orientation of the green creating a dramatic back right pin position on the water. We have also filled in some of the lake area to the left that will be mounded and planted with trees.
HOLE 9 - PAR 4
HOLE 10 - PAR 5
Original Design: A fairway bunker left of the tee and two green side bunkers on left of the green.
Original Design: Off the tee there is a fairway bunker left on the inside of the dogleg and beyond the fairway on the right outside of the dogleg. From here, there is a blind bunker at the second landing area and a bunker front left of the green.
Golfplan Design: The Tees have been shifted to accommodate the changes to Hole 5. The fairway bunker has been enlarged and shifted toward the green slightly to be more relevant for the long hitters and improved equipment technology. The green complex design has put a premium on the approach shot as the hole is not too long. A small pot bunker has been located left front of the green and a larger bunker guards the right front of the green.
Golfplan Design: The left side fairway bunker has been shifted further out off the tee and the right side fairway bunker enlarged to frame the landing area. A fairway bunker has been added to the left side of the second landing area increasing the difficulty of reaching the green in two. Safe play is to lay up short of this bunker and have a relatively flat lie approach.

HOLE 11 - PAR 3
HOLE 12 - PAR 4
Original Design: Bunkers front right and back left. The green surface, over the bunkers on the right, repels shots away.
Original Design: The current fairway bunker position is very blind and penal as it is nearly in the middle of the fairway. Two bunkers line the right front and side of green with one bunker left.
Golfplan Design: Rework the green shape, surface and greenside bunkers to provide a more receptive green with more strategic pin positions and spill off areas all around the green.

Hole-by-Hole Feature
Golfplan Design: Maximize length by moving tee back as far as possible. All tees to be enlarged. Reposition fairway bunker to right edge of fairway creating a more fair tee shot. Regrade fairway to allow better visibility to green from landing area. Two bunkers added to left of diagonal green and one to the back right with the fairway sweeping around the front and right of the green. A spill-off area at the back will collect any long shots and provide for a variety of recovery shots.

Golfplan Design: Tees have been reconfigured and moved back and the green shifted away from the front easement and reservoir. A large bunker front right of the green is complimented by a similar bunker along the left of the green.
Golfplan Design: A completely new par 5 golf hole where the current par 4 sits now. Cross bunkering the landing area makes the golfer choose how aggressive to be off the tee on this short reachable par 5. The second landing area is very close to the green with a deep pot bunker guarding the front right of the green. The green is surrounded by hollows and mounds that guard this small green. Left of the pot bunker is more fairway well below the green surface, making this a tough chip.

Golfplan Design: This is also a completely new golf hole. The lake has been expanded for added storage capacity. The green has shifted to the right and the large Banyan tree will be a dramatic back drop to this par 4. The green will sit tight to the water with bunkering in the back and front of the green. There will be fairway spill-off areas at the back and right of the green, allowing for more types of shot selections.
Golfplan Design: The tees have shifted significantly to allow hole 4 tees to shift out of the 15m easement. The fairway bunkering has been adjusted to better fit the length of the new tee shot. The green has been pushed back to gain some distance and the bunkering reconfigured to allow more challenging pin positions.
Hole-by-Hole Feature
HOLE 17 - PAR 4
HOLE 18 - PAR 4
Original Design: The golf hole slopes very hard right to left off the tee. A bunker front left guards the green.
Original Design: A large fairway bunker lines the left side of the landing area. An intermediate bunker short left of the green is somewhat out of play, except for the high handicapper. 2 additional bunkers are currently guarding the left side of the green. The green is quite close to the clubhouse and there is safety fence/netting to protect it.
Golfplan Design: We have raised the entire left side of the golf hole so that good tee shots can be rewarded and not automatically go into the left rough. The further right the better off the tee, as it promotes a better angle into the green. However, a large fairway bunker is set into the slope on the right of the fairway putting a premium on length and accuracy. Trees in the right rough also present a challenge to the tee shot. The green has been pushed back for added length. Two bunkers along the left and one middle right protect the green nicely.
Golfplan Design: We have moved the fairway bunker to the right side of the landing area to put a premium on positioning your drive for the optimal approach. The existing hole has no strategy other than not to go left. Now the better angle to the green is from the right, bringing the new fairway bunker into play. We have shifted the green to the right, further away from the clubhouse to create a much safer condition. Bunkers guard the front left and back left portion of the green with a large collection/spill-off area right of the green for those who bail out. A proposed water feature will sit behind the green and flow into the water feature at 1 and 10 tees.
