CELEBRATING THE WOMEN OF SELETAR

A battle between San Gu and Ba Po!

Our lady golfers took the time to celebrate International Women's Day on 8 March with a golf session in the afternoon followed by a sumptuous dinner at Eagle’s View. Celebrated worldwide, the International Women’s Day celebrates womanhood and pays tribute to the indomitable spirit of women across the globe. Divided into teams San Gu and Ba Po and dressed in red or yellow, the ladies pitted their golfing skills against one another and the Ba Po team emerged victorious! Show me the money!

For dinner, it was time for flower power as the ladies freshened up and dressed to the theme. The ladies were tickled pink with the entertaining quest for our very first ‘Miss SCC 38 Queen 2017’. Although there were no mandatory national costume, swimsuit or evening gown segment, the sporting contestants Joanne Lim, Ann Cheok, Maggie Sim and Alicia Peh did an impromptu catwalk segment and showed off their eloquence with a Q&A portion. Amid the merriment, Ann eventually clinched the title, and took home her plastic tiara, wand, sash and priceless bragging rights for a year!

As a treat for our little guests, they got to release young butterflies into the garden at the beginning of the tour. CLEAR YES FOR LAND LEASE RENEWAL

It was close to 6pm on a Monday evening and the Seletar Room was sparsely spotted with members attending the Extraordinary General Meeting (EOGM) held on 3 April for the renewal of the club’s land lease. But that changed in just half an hour. At the point when the

Members checking out the exhibition of the redevelopment plans at the Main Clubhouse lobby

meeting started at 6:30pm, 450 voting members thronged the Seletar Room, necessitating non-voting members to be

routed to the Eagle’s View. Woeful as it was, such was the constraints of our Seletar Room which clearly highlighted the need to upgrade the room’s seating capacity. Some banter and dialogues later, where Chairman Cheah Kim Teck explained the realities of Option 1 and Option 2 of the lease renewal conditions as stipulated by SLA, voting commenced. A clear resolution was achieved when almost all hands shot up in support of renewing the land lease up to 2040 based on Option 2 of SLA’s offer. That pivotal vote meant the public access board walk or walking trail as required by the Government will be left to them to plan, construct, finance, manage and maintain.

All ready to vote!

As the night wore on and discussions turned to presentations from our golf course architect Golfplan and F&B renovation consultant Genius Loci, restless members left in search of gastronomical gratification elsewhere, having satisfyingly done their parts in renewing the Club’s land lease. Those that stayed behind engaged the MC on the second half of the resolutions, which centred around the top-up contributions from members and upgrading of the golf course and F&B facilities. The event was clearly a fruitful meeting of minds as members shared ideas on moving the Club forward and MC giving their best to guide the Club in this critical passage of redevelopment for the next 20 years. It was reassuring to witness the positive exchange done in that old familiar Seletar Spirit. In closing the meeting, Chairman assured members that their voices have been heard and MC will consider all feedback and concerns as they review the renovation plans and top-up quantum for members. Chairman went on to assure that members will be kept updated on the revised plans at a later date. And at the end, as Seletarians always do, all soirees adjourn with an enjoyable round of delectable buffet spread coupled with good humour and

Our little swimmers splashed with great enthusiasm while their family cheered them on! Between races, the children were hopping between the various carnival game and activity booths, enjoying games like Spin the Wheel, Coin Toss, Balloon Sculpting, Easter Egg Painting & craft making. Easter Bunny came to visit too, posing for pictures and giving out goodies much to the delight of the children!
