HIGHLIGHTS

Dear Members, SEASON’S GREETINGS! The festive period beckons and I am delighted to inform you that the Club is very much looking forward to ramping up events and activities. On behalf of the Management Committee, I would like to thank all members for their unflinching support during this period. Singapore has been through multiple periods of heightened alert that have disrupted the economy and our way of life in numerous ways. Naturally, this has also impacted the Club’s operations as we have had to adjust our operations to keep up with the fluid Safe Management Measures. I would like to commend our staff, who have been going above and beyond their line of duty to keep our house in order. It is by no means an easy job as they must maintain operational efficiency whilst ensuring the Club’s premises remain safe for us all. The Club has also stepped-up training for our staff in various areas. This includes training to improve customer service and management standards, amongst others. Also, we are increasing the frequency of AED and CPR training to keep our emergency response time high and to ensure our staff remain familiar with emergency response procedures.

Also, the F&B team have started rolling out weekly specials at the Seletar Terrace that are not available on the standard menu. Other initiatives that the Club have introduced recently include more frequent updates through the twice-weekly E-Buzz and a Web Statement feature on the Members Portal. Do look forward to more improvements being rolled out in the coming months. SELETAR SPIRIT The Club has always supported the Boys’ Brigade “Share-A-Gift” programme, which is back this year. Let us channel the famous Seletar Spirit for a good cause by adopting all the gifts, as we have done so in previous years. No contribution is too little, even the smallest gift can make a huge difference to the lives of someone. Do visit our website to adopt and share a gift! FESTIVE F&B PROMOTIONS As is tradition in years gone by, our F&B team have planned a whole slew of exciting promotions to celebrate the upcoming festive period. The chefs have worked ceaselessly to curate delicacies that reflect the season’s best produces. Regardless of your preference, there is bound to be something for you. If you are unable to dine-in with us, do consider our takeaway promotions and bring a taste of Seletar home to your loved ones.

COVID-19 has caused a labor crunch which we have not been spared from. As a result, our staff have been stretched considerably. Please give them your utmost support as they continue to provide members with the warm Seletar service that we are renowned for.

CLOSING REMARKS

The Club is fully committed to improving the overall experience for all members and have already made several steps in the right direction. Our Sports and Social team recently organized a “Brisk Walk at the Golf Course” that received overwhelming response. We have also introduced a members-first seating policy at our F&B outlets and have even reserved the Tavern exclusively for members and their invited guests only.

As we learn to live with Covid-19, the Club has high hopes of resuming and announcing certain activities in the months to come as restrictions ease.

Floor Improvement Works at Male Golfer Changing Room

The old flooring at the Male Golfers Changing Room had suffered from immense wear and tear. Due to its mesh surface, dust and dirt particles would frequently get trapped inside the mesh holes. Even with thorough cleaning, we were unable to remove all of them. Thus, a decision was made to overhaul the flooring entirely. The new Vinyl flooring matches seamlessly with the theme of the room and has the added benefit of being slip-resistant. It also has a flat surface with no holes, which makes cleaning easier.

As the years passed, the timber railings had started to lose their luster and shine. Thus, we decided to give it a new coat of paint. Aside from a clean and fresh look, the railings are now better protected from the elements and will have a longer life span.

I was a guest at Seletar Co untry Club (SCC) for some tra ining events from October 19th-22n d. I would like to highlight few areas which impressed me during my visit. After completing two tra ining events, I approached your recept ion counter to obtain a paper bag so tha t I could arrange Sharon for courier to pick up som e important documents. Ms Sharon Lee, the receptionist gre eted me cheerfully at the coun ter. I told her what I needed and the purpose. She off ered to give me an envelo pe. I expressed my concerns that the envelop may no t hold my documents as the y are quite thick. She the n recommended that I tak e a few extra envelops jus t in case. In addition, she als o suggested that I take a plastic carrier (that she pro mptly provided) to hold the envelopes together for the courier to secure the package. I am pleasantly surprised and impressed by Ms Lee ’s proactiveness and ability to anticipate guest’s nee ds. That saved me from makin g extra trip to the recept ion for additional resources. Ms Lee left me a wonderf ul experience of SCC with her warm, sincere, and professional tonality and confident body language . She does her job well, shows genuinely interested in the guest and it make me fee l valued. On the second day of my visit, I developed a bad headache probably due to my insufficient rest. Ms Mayolien Mery was aware, and she gave me a quick, impromptu neck ma ssage to relieve my tensio n during a short tea break. I appreciate her kindness . She was very skilful, with a few good strokes, she managed to ease my ten sion. She also showered me with abundant care and concerns. While interactin g with her, I can see that she has a lot of confidence and shows great passion in her job. During my first two days at SCC, Ms Carmen Chee, who was in my training pro gramme, made sure my meals were well taken car e of. She helped me to ord er lunch in advance and bro ught them to the functio n room. She also assisted me in getting my takeaways in advance. It was thoug htful of her to remind me to collect before I went home. She also took the effort to send me pictures of the Bus pickup point in the morning where I co uld take to SCC. She was considerate and helpful, and I really appreciate it.

On day two morning, Ms May Khoo surprised me with a bottle of mineral wa ter; remembering that my preferred drink is just wa ter. She showed that she was attentive to guest’s needs. On day three, Ms Kam Po oi See, took over when Ms Chee was off. She starte d the day by putting a bo ttle of mineral water on my des k and a sweet text. She als o reminded me to order lun ch in advance and follow ed up with a text to inform me what time it would be ready. Her replies were wa rm and welcoming. Ms Kam showed that she was dep endable, and it was seaml ess to get my meals ready. He r cheerful disposition del ights the guests, and it is a joy to be around her. These F&B staff have per sonalised their service while maintaining their pro fessionalism during my interactions with them. On top of that, whenever I visited Seletar Terrace, I was always greeted by the staff with warm smiles and pro mpt services. Kudos! Overall, the above encou nters have created outstanding moments du ring my visit although the re were some minor lapses in other areas of SCC. I appreciate the kindness and proactive actions of your staff. They have showed their professionalism and excellence customer ser vice mindset. AED SETS DEPLOYED AT CLUB’S PREMISES Automated external defibrillators (AED) can help save lives during sudden cardiac arrest. To increase our emergency response standards, we have deployed AED sets throughout Seletar Country Club’s premises. There are a total of 9 sets located strategically at the Clubhouse and Golf Course. The AED sets located at the Golf Marshal’s Office and Security Office will be managed by the respective teams during any medical emergency. The remaining 7 sets are conveniently mounted on walls and can be used at a moment’s notice.

COVID-19 DISINFECTION WORKS AROUND THE CLUB

With the global COVID-19 pandemic, it’s now more important than ever to keep our homes and places of business safe and healthy for everyone. In line with that, the Club has significantly stepped up the frequency of cleaning and disinfection works throughout its premises. These measures will help to reduce the potential contamination of Covid-19 virus at the Club.

We are also equipped with the latest tools and technologies that disinfect, sanitise, and clean practically any type of surface. Recycling Collection SERVICE

Recycling converts waste into useful products and conserves natural resources. We are glad to play our part in creating a sustainable future. As such, we have placed Recycle Bins at various locations throughout the Club’s premises. The recycled materials will be collected from the bins at least once a week. After sorting, the recyclable materials are sent to recycling facilities for further processing. Let us all do our part in protecting the environment.

DONATION DRIVE As part of an ongoing partnership with the Lions Club (Tanah Merah), we held the 3rd edition of the Used Clothes Donation Drive on 21 August 2021. In total, 2 trucks worth of materials were donated for a good cause. For those interested, our next donation drive will be on 4 December 2021.

Mid-Autumn Lantern Making Workshop & Giveaway

The Mid-Autumn Festival, or the Mooncake Festival as it is commonly known in Singapore, is celebrated by Chinese communities all around the world. To celebrate it, we organized a Mid-Autumn Lantern Making Workshop on 20 September. It was well attended, with kids learning how to make rabbit shaped lanterns using recycled materials. As part of our Members’ Surprise initiative, we also gave away mini lantern kits for our junior members at the Sports Complex as our way of celebrating the festival.

Butterfly Garden

PLANTING

We have always taken pride in having a stunning Butterfly Garden that is the envy of many. Unfortunately, Covid-19 restrictions have prevented us from carrying out activities there in typical fashion. Fortunately, we were able to organize a Butterfly Garden Planting activity on 28 August 2021. The activity was a combined effort between the Club and our member, Mr. Foo Jit Leang, who is also our resident Butterfly Specialist. There was a very good turnout for the activity, with 19 members attending. In addition to a tour of the garden plus an educational sharing session on butterflies, each group planted a butterfly-friendly plant and every participant was given caterpillars to bring home too. The next Butterfly Garden Planting session will be held in December 2021, which is the peak of the Butterfly season.

MATCH PLAY The Tennis Junior Match Play was held across 2 weekends during the recent September school holidays for the 10 & Under (Green), Orange Ball, and Red Ball categories. Our Seletar Juniors faced new opponents from other Tennis Academies, which afforded them valuable match experience and helped to develop their skills. The event was well received by both members and their guests. As of writing, plans are underway to form an official Seletar Junior Tennis Team to properly compete against other clubs and academies. Do keep a look out for our Tennis Camps and Matchplay Series during the coming school holidays!

Over 2 days on 7-8 September 2021, we held our popular Junior Art Camp. It was well received, with 6 participants turning up. Throughout the camp, the kids learned various painting techniques and even had the opportunity to make their own clay bowls.

Brisk Walking AT GOLF COURSE

Since the completion of renovation works, many members have requested for a brisk walk at the golf course. And so, the Club held our first walk at the renovated golf course on 7 September 2021. It was a fully subscribed event with 30 enthusiastic participants. Needless to say, this activity was extremely well received by both golfing and social members who reveled in the exclusive opportunity to tour the Golf Course. Due to popular demand, we are looking at organizing Brisk Walks at the Golf Course at least once per quarter. The next Brisk Walking activity will take place on 14 December.
