Abstract This article introduced the implementation background, target planned to achieve, practice main contents, management mode, and achievements of the project. Exploration and practice on “excellent network engineer” practical talents training based on “dual system” have some significance for reference to practical talent training.

Introduction This project depends on Guangdong Provincial Education Bureau “Excellent Network Engineer” university student practical base and the practical talent training example base based on dual training mechanism to carry out exploration and practice on teaching reform.

“Excellent Network Engineer” university student practical teaching base mainly undertakes off‐campus practical education and teaching tasks, promotes universities and enterprises to establish new mechanism of talent training cooperated between universities and enterprises, promotes transformation of education idea and concept, reforms talent training mode, enhances practical teaching procedure, improves students’ innovative spirit, practical abilities, sense of social responsibility and employment abilities. According to professional development planning, as well as level, positioning and guide lines of running school, by means of establishment of university student practice and teaching base, with computer science and technology as the main line, by means of engineering education, it is to foster students to master elementary theories, methods and techniques of computer network technology with network system design and engineering ability, and foster engineering application and development high‐class technical talents that not only can engage in systematical research, design, test, maintenance and management of computer network and relevant fields, but also adapt to computer science development trend and intercross application with other subjects with abilities of computer network construction, network management and network maintenance abilities.

Practical talent training example base based on dual training mechanism is to provide strong support for training practical talents by means of innovating talent training mechanism, integrating talent training environment and establishing “trial” talent training example zone. Based on “dual system” talent training mode, it requires that students must carry out two kinds of training, one is in schools, mainly to study elementary theories and knowledge related to majors; the other is in off‐campus practical fields such as enterprises, mainly to enable students to receive professional training on vocational techniques. Under this school running mode jointly cooperated between universities and enterprises, enterprises and universities jointly undertake the task of talent training and arrange teaching as per the demands for talents from enterprises, industries and market, not only focusing on professional abilities of students, but also focusing on training of students’ vocational abilities. By means of “dual system” training mode, students master the elementary theoretical knowledge, improve necessary business abilities, master practical social abilities, and greatly enhance market adapting abilities.

Project Research Target By means of exploration and practice on “excellent network engineer” practical talents training, it is to achieve the following targets: 

To innovate talent training mechanism. On the basis of “dual system” talent training mode, it is to integrate talent training environment, create “trial” talent training example zone and establish new talent training platform jointly cooperated between universities and enterprises.



To establish “dual system” talent training teaching system. Enterprises extensively and intensively participate in the whole process of students’ training and each procedure of teaching. Universities and enterprises jointly set the target of professional training, course arrangement, teaching mode and practice mode, etc. to achieve “dual” structure of universities and enterprises, as well as “seamless” connection.



To establish tridimensional and multi practical teaching system. Depending on practical operation training, it is to foster students’ practical abilities of research, development, design, management and maintenance, etc; By means of on‐the‐job internship, it is to enable students to understand the working procedure of relevant posts, and foster students’ engineering sense; The university and enterprise jointly establish on‐ campus innovation factory to actualize course connection, order teaching and jointly running school, etc. to enhance students’ engineering practical abilities, intensive understanding of the industry and social competitiveness.



To establish practical teaching team with professional, industrial and vocational characteristics. Making use of the project that teachers station in enterprises, it is to foster full‐time and part‐time teachers, promote transformation to practical teaching mode; By means of university‐industry cooperation, it is to improve teachers’ science research abilities, and promote improvement of teaching abilities; By means of full‐time and part‐time integration, instruction teachers in the base and “full‐time and part‐time” backbone teachers from the university jointly complete teaching task.



To establish multi‐functional university‐industry cooperation center. It integrates bilateral resources of university and enterprise with the mode of university‐industry cooperation to carry out vertical science research projects and horizontal research and development projects to improve service ability of teaching, science research and practice, and achieve targets of resource sharing between university and enterprise for mutual benefits and win‐win. By means of integrating practice platform, it is to provide students with education training and examination attestation service, and foster “dual certificate” practical talents.



To establish integrated resource sharing platform of university‐industry cooperation. All base enterprises, teachers and students can open personal space on the internet. Enterprises can release internship information; Teachers can upload teaching resources and information; Students can exchange and discuss on the internet. It is to integrate talent training chain, actualize recourses sharing and meet the demands of practical talent training.

Main Contents of Project Implementation Main Contents of Practice 

Off‐campus internship and practice: Enterprises provide high‐quality practical base, practical projects, practical technical instruction staff, and integrate practical projects into the teaching procedure as the practical training of the term project.



Project practice of teachers stationing in enterprises: It is to arrange part of teachers to the base during holidays each year to carry out real enterprise project development to improve teachers’ practical teaching ability.



Joint development of products: It makes use of the common advantageous resources of the two parties to jointly develop products.



Joint application for research projects: Each party takes its own advantage. The university and enterprise

jointly tackle key problems of leading edge technology, and jointly apply fund projects in different levels. 

Joint training of excellent talents: Enterprises provide students with free training of professional attestation certificates and preferential examinations to jointly foster excellent talents to meet the demands of enterprises.



On‐campus projects to jointly create “innovation factory” and laboratories on campus: Enterprises provide or OEM part of projects to the college. Teachers lead students to accomplish the project. Teachers and students jointly participate in the project to improve the innovation and development abilities of teachers and students on campus, and improve students’ employment competitiveness.



Support for professional interest group and technology matches and activities: Making use of the resources, experience and technology advantages of the enterprise in the industry, it is to provide students with professional education, and meanwhile provide technical and financial support in related matches.



Student practice and technical instruction: The enterprise appoints excellent trainers and top talents in the industry to provide training or technical instruction for students, participate in project development and meanwhile organize students to visit the enterprise for study as per the demands of the university.



Graduate internship and employment recommendation. It is to arrange graduates to go to the enterprise for professional internship, participate in real project development and practice to improve employment competiveness, and meanwhile recommend jobs as per the internship result of students.

Different Training for Different Directions It is to integrate with the enterprise business to carry out multi training projects. The hotspots involve in ten core technologies: UNIX/Linux platform technology, Java EE core technology, Oracle enterprise database technology, mainstream framework technology of SSH, etc., Web 2.0 core technology, SOA and cloud computation technology, metadata management and its automatization, UML2.1 modeling and criterion, WebLogic and Jboss commercial servicer technology and 3G technology, etc.

Production Practice Training The contents consist of two parts: computer network technology practice teaching technique improvement module and engineering post practical module to enable students to master the core concept of production practice in the relaxing and pleasant process.

Project Management Mode “Excellent Network Engineer” practical talent training example base based on “dual” training mechanism adopts multi level management modes. 

To establish project leading team, responsible for organizing and supervising the work of the base, coordinateing related matters of the construction work, and arranging each task as per the project plan.



To appoint managing staff, responsible for managing each work of base construction and periodically organizing symposium of teachers and students to understand students’ conditions, timely feedback related information and improve construction result.



To establish project responsibility team, adopt project responsibility system, responsible for implementation of each project.



To establish teaching team. It is to appoint famous teachers and full‐time and part‐time teachers with strong practical abilities and rich teaching experience to connect with main technical supervisor of the enterprise, so as to ensure successful implementation of university and enterprise cooperation.

Project Achievements After years of construction and experimentation, the project has achieved better results in exploration and practice

on “excellent network engineer” practical talents training, mainly including: Established Excellent Talent Training System The university and enterprise closely cooperated and coordinated in investigation, and probed on the relevant problems of majors, courses and internship, etc. On this basis, targeting at training target, course arrangement and post positioning, etc, they drew excellent talent training plan, enhanced training of students’ engineering application ability, and enabled students to better meet the demands of the employment market.

Established High‐quality Course System The university and enterprise cooperated in creating provincial superior courses, “JAVA Procedure Design” and “Computer Network Technology”, developed learning website of superior courses, established open resources sharing platform, online examination system, online teaching video and practical ability development, etc.

Moreover, “Database Theory and Application”, “Data Structure and Computation” and “Software Engineering”, etc. are under construction to make contributions to the training course system for high‐quality talents.

Cooperated Research in University‐industry The university and enterprise took their own advantage respectively, jointly cooperated in university‐industry subject research, applied for fund projects, and tackled key problems of leading edge technology, such as cooperation in applying for Guangdong Provincial Science and Technology Plan Project, Guangdong Provincial University‐Industry Cooperation Project, Guangzhou Municipal Science and Technology Innovation Project and Enterprise Horizontal Project, etc., cooperation in publishing thesis, applying for patents and software copyright, etc. By means of university‐industry cooperation and research, academic level of teachers is improved and teaching level is greatly promoted.

Jointly Established CDIO Innovative Factory CDIO represents Conceive, Design, Implement and Operate. It took the life period from product research and development to product operation as carrier, enabled students to study engineering in the active way of organic relation between practice and courses. Teachers, students and enterprise staff jointly participated in university and enterprise cooperation projects. In the innovation factory, the enterprise provided technical instruction, training and support on the basis of each development of the innovation factory; The university organized teachers and students to carry out development as per the mode and requirements of the innovation factory. This mode provided practical scheme for engineering education reform and engineering talent training.

Established “dual teacher model” Teaching Team Instruction teaching team of the teaching practical base consists of full‐time and part‐time backbone teachers from the university, as well as technical staff, superior trainers and management staff from the enterprise. By means of related management system, it mobilized the activeness of instruction teachers, improved the whole level of instruction teachers and ensured the teaching quality. Moreover, it established scientific assessing system. Teachers carried out teaching as per teaching plan and teaching schedule. Students accomplished projects, and submitted thesis, project report or project results as per the requirements. The project group established professor group for each subject for research and discussion. Student representatives also participated in assessment to jointly make evaluation to the study results of students.

Improved Practical Abilities of Students The enterprise provided high‐quality practical projects and technical staff to instruct innovation activities of students. By means of the commercial and practical value of the projects, it improved students’ abilities of tackling practical problems. The enterprise also periodically appointed excellent trainers and top talents in the industry to the university to held lectures on new technology, provided technical training and instruction for students, provided professional cognizing education for freshmen, and provided technical and financial support for relevant matches of students to enrich students extracurricular practice and improve students practical abilities.

Conclusions After years of exploration and practice, this project has achieved some achievements, currently under further improvement. This project is supported by quality engineering project of Guangdong Provincial Education Bureau.
