Writing/Speaking -Write a class letter to express complaints -Writing with a clear main idea -Expressing facts and opinions -Persuasive writing. -Posters to persuade the community to participate -Types of slogans -Complete sentences READING:
-Big questions: How can citizen participation make a difference in our community? -Who are the people who help in your community and what happens when they don’t do their job? -Predict/Infer (predict what would happen if somebody decided do not participate) -Cause/Effect (Make hypotheses…..”If _________happens, then…….) Language Conventions:
-Past Tense -Regular and irregular verbs, clue words such as yesterday, before, ago etc. -Past Participle -Auxiliary Verbs: to be, to have, to do, will -Transitional words and phrases -However, besides, afterward, at least, likewise, for instance, etc. -Vocabulary: -Government, community, and election-related words EVALUATION CRITERIA: Students will receive a separate grade in Reading, Writing, and Language Conventions (Spelling & Grammar). Formative: (70%) Summative: (30%) -Class work – 40% ~Final Exam (Individual & Group) -Homework – 20% -Attitude toward learning – 10%

I am going to look in some of the books that I have in the office and see if there is anything good For example, there is a unit called “Building a New country” another called “Problem Solvers” with a text called “Running for office”
