BREAKOUT SESSION 1 Comment

Building homes and property values back, safety is a big part of this Get more police to live in the neighborhood, so they police the area they already know. Potentially provide tax subsidy or tax abatement for police members to live in the neighborhood. (Many live in Parma or Brecksville and drive into the neighborhood)

Group 1 / David Jurca

Need more community meetings and engagement with families. Where parents and their children participate together.

Group 1 / Zoom

Need more parking at CPL branch on E. 131st

Group 1 / Zoom

Safety, safety, safety!

Group 1 / Zoom

Dumping is a problem. Not just littering in general, but specific lots where people drop off large items.

Group 1 / Zoom

Benchmarked the conversation based on safety as a starting point

Group 2 / Zoom

Need safety in terms of urgent care facilities, especially for seniors Safety for the sustainability of our lives. Living wages, job training, feeling comfortable that we can hold on Mental health resources How do we handle the differences between neighborhoods. We shouldn’t have to think differently about our two neighborhoods We shouldn’t think of ourselves as underresourced, although we know there’s a history of it Ultimately, we shouldn’t think of ourselves as being any different from other neighborhoods in Cleveland in terms of what investments are made here.

Invest in Public Spaces & Streets

Bob Deskins Park: UMDC awarded a $5000 grant from WRLC. Once funds are acquired; the pathway within the park can be extended. Also lighting and additional landscaping can happen. Flowers can be planted as well.

Bob Deskins Park: This summer, UMDC plas to have Union-Miles youth participate in the beautification efforts within Bob Deskins. This will give the youth something positive to focus on while working in an upcoming community.

Bob Deskins Park: Bob Deskins is evaluated every Monday to make sure that the park is clean and also to determine what else can be done for its beautification efforts.

Bob Deskins Park: Lighting post will be installed once concrete is installed.

Future Memorial Park: Communication between Tahia Herd (E 131st St Coalition) & UMDC has become clear, regarding the Pocket Park project. UMDC will meet w/ Ms. Herd via phone or in person on a weekly basis until completion of project.

Future Memorial Park: Three landscaping companies plan to meet with UMDC the week of May 9th 2022 to give estimates on beautification and enhancement of the park. (Such as cutting branches and planting.) Just basic landscaping.

Future Memorial Park: Will get youth and volunteers involved with the project.

Future Memorial Park:

The following request by Ms. Herd for UMDC to complete is the following: Landscaping— planting tulips, create a butterfly garden, perennial plants & rose gardens. Looking for paint on concrete that only visible when it rains that says “East 131st Street Memorial/Pocket Park. Benches will be painted & planters are already in place.
