WATER HAZARDS: All lateral hazards are identified by red stakes and defined by red lines. In the absence of a red line and when stakes are present, the waters edge of the cart path defines the margin of the hazard.

COQUINA SHELL AREAS: Deemed to be an integral part of course. No free relief available. TIES: Ties for the Overall Champion, Senior Division Champion and Low Amateur will be broken via a sudden death playoff immediately after the completion of play. All other ties will result in splitting of the purse.

LIFT, CLEAN & PLACE IN EFFECT FOR TODAY'S ROUND: LIFT, CLEAN, AND PLACE: The SFPGA lift, clean, and place policy is in effect in all "closely mown areas" on the hole you are playing. “Closely mown area” means an area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less. After marking the position of the ball, the player may lift, clean, and must then place the ball on a spot within one SFPGA scorecard length of and not nearer the hole than where it originally lay, that is not in a hazard and not on a putting green.

OUT OF BOUNDS: In addition to item #9 on the SFPGA Rules of Play Card, any ball coming to rest above the waters edge on the non-golf course side of a lateral water hazard is out of bounds.

OUT OF BOUNDS: In addition to item #9 on the SFPGA Rules of Play Card, any ball coming to rest above the waters edge on the non-golf course side of a lateral water hazard is out of bounds.

foundation news womeN’s golf dAy

SUPPORTED BY JUPITER MEDICAL CENTER

Over one hundred women filled the range and practice greens of Jupiter Country Club on February 3rd. All women were varying in skill level, and their relationship with the game of golf. However, all in attendance were keen on improving their golfing game in hopes to prolong their enjoyment of the lifelong game. This free event consisted of: individual instruction from fourteen local PGA Professionals, swing improvement technology from Jupiter Medical Center, raffle prizes from local businesses, and a clinic from local golf legend Michelle McGann, PGA. McGann discussed pre-round routines, superstitions, friendships deepened on the Legends Tour and when to correct a swing flaw and when to let it fly. The south Florida native also discussed her philanthropic efforts concerning juvenile diabetes, a condition she has faced over thirty years leading her to begin the Michelle McGann Fund focused on supporting diabetes education and awareness. Demonstrating swing thoughts translated into shot results through her bag, the local legend also fielded questions from participants including concerns about club selection. The South Florida PGA facilitates this event on both coasts annually to provide golf opportunities to captive audiences like the women of south Florida. Many participants walked away feeling educated and encouraged to continue pursuing to increase their golf skills. Thank you to the following PGA Professionals who made this event possible; Warren Bottke, Bruce Brandt , Kevin Compare , Chris David, Steve Horvat , Michelle Hupfer, Mark Mielke, Bobby Petelinkar, Bob Purcell , Nancy Quarcelino, John Schob , Susan Vail, Chase Vande Zande and Eddie Walsh.

Puerto Rico Strong The following is a personal account from PGA Professional and Island Chapter President Tony Loyola in follow up to the story in December’s Newsletter. “Thanks to the help from the South Florida Section, the Island Chapter was able to put together two relief efforts to assist local communities in need after the effects of hurricane Maria. The two communities were Las Marias on the northwest side of the island and Punta Santiago on the East Coast. The Island Chapter organized a team of volunteers with various local golf professionals and set out to coordinate the events. The goal was simple: purchase food supplies that do not need to be refrigerated and make shopping bags for each family in the community. The challenge: making sure that each bag had enough supplies to alleviate around 300 families per effort. The Island Chapter Board met at Costco and did a large purchase of canned goods and other supplies. In addition, various generators were purchased for families with special medical needs that require electricity for their conditions. Next, a team of volunteers was put in place to assist in the filling of each bag. An assembly line was formed, bags were being filled with products and moved to the transportation vehicle. The first community visited was Las Marias. Our drive to reach the community took us around 2 hours. The roads we took to reach the community became dangerous. At one point we had to stop for over 30 minutes under rain to figure out how to drive through a road that was covered in mud and our cars were sliding. Finally, we were able to make it and reach the meeting point. It was a local school that had been assigned by the town’s mayor as the distribution point. Over 200 families were impacted, including three families with donated generators. The second community was Punta Santiago in Humacao. This is one of the most affected communities in Puerto Rico. Over 120 days have gone by and there is still no power or water. Clean up of trees and debris are still under way. The Island Chapter coordinated with a local entity called PECES Foundation to set up the distribution point. We arrived around 9 am and were greeted with a staff of volunteers that would also give a helping hand to distribute the supplies. The line of cars from the residents ready to obtain their supplies was over 50 cars long. We were able to impact over 300 families, providing them with food, baby supplies, toiletries, water, etc. Two generators were given to two families identified by the local community as well. * Pictured Above- Images from Tony Loyola, PGA in Puerto Rico

Puerto Rico Strong The experience of being able to assist these communities, especially during a time of the year when most people are celebrating Christmas, is humbling. Many times we don’t realize how easy we have it. It took some of us to get power back in 30, 60 or 90 days after the hurricane. But we met people and families with young children that are still without water or power, have no roof and live each day hoping that help will arrive again. More than 120 days after the hurricane passed! These people look at you and give you one of the most beautiful smiles you will ever see. Barriers are broken, and we become people with the same heart and needs. There is no other joy or satisfaction that can be compared with the one you get from helping people in such need. We were humbled by these efforts and we want to thank the South Florida Section and Geoff Lofstead for allowing us to experience it by assisting the Chapter financially. We also want to thank the volunteers who made the time to make this happen: Jose Rodriguez, PGA, Jamie West, PGA, Tony Loyola, PGA, Angel and wife, Mike and Doris, Justin and wife, Karla Cora, Seth Bull, PGA, Bob Harlisnki, PGA, Alberto Rios, PGA, and son, Leyla, PECES Foundation. We will rise stronger and closer thanks to all of you! God bless all!
