Editor’s note

The level of intensity it takes to be an entrepreneur is nothing short of phenomenal, in this edition we speak to entrepreneur Wendy Ntinezo about her journey so far as an entrepreneur. Wendy is using her company Black Merge Tv to produce content that discusses a topic most wouldn’t tackle that of religion and spirituality and in line with that she’s also seen the need for holistic converations even regarding mental health. We love a woman who’s sense of style is just as fabulous as her conversation and Wendy is just that.

As the editor I use this space not only to talk about what’s in the magazine although I must say our fashion ‘Lust List’ is poppin’ and has a little something for everyone... ok past that shameless plug, the middle of the year is a good time to introspect, relook at our goals and stop and pause. My question is have you gone back to actually check the progress you’ve made this year and what do you plan to do going forward? I was inspired by our ‘BOSS Women’ list at just

how they’ve been able to shatter the supposed career glass ceiling. When I read their stories I don’t think it was a fairy tale I think it was sheer determination and this has brought me back to whether we are spending time reflecting on our goals and actioning them. Many people might skip over this but if you read it be honest with yourself and truly respond. (Probably to yourself or people might start starring). We’re in the middle of the year and most of Africa’s elections have come and gone, which begs the question after all is said and ‘ticked’ what type of conversations are governments having with young people... wait... are we even on the same page? Many young people seem frustrated and most governments bewildered but how can they find common ground not just to use it as part of some propaganda but to shape a future we as young people can thrive for and governments can be proud of. Well I’m running out of space and there’s so much to read so until the next edition or social media, which would be great if you could like and follow us... Live Beautfully

nunu ntshingila

Nunu Ntshingila Njeke is no stranger to the public eye of South African media and advertising although little might be found about her online she’s definitely a juggernaut. Born in the township of Soweto she carries herself with quiet assurance, a regalness and grace, a quiet confidence many of us wish we had. Nunu Ntshingila Njeke studied at The University Of Swaziland majoring in politics and public administration and saw herself one day being involved in politics and public service, she wasn’t exposed to the advertising industry at the time of her schooling and all the opportunities that awaited her. She started at Ogilvy as an intern and worked her way up becoming the Chairman at Ogilvy & Mather South Africa now that type of hustle is more than commendable, it’s heroic and not only did she work her way up but she was recently inducted into the Creative Hall of Fame, for her work in advertising becoming the first woman to receive this honor. She has also been Communications Director of Nike South Africa, I mean talk about being a BOSS and to put the cherry on top she’s now Head of Facebook for Africa. Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris

I had been waiting for the next big summer scent and oh boy I was not disappointed by the Yves Saint Laurent Mon Paris perfume. It takes on center stage with its fruity yet sweet floral keynotes. The youthful blend captivates most if not all its modern audience. I was most fond of its ability to linger for long periods of time and it stayed true to its iconic Yves Saint Laurent signature brand style. Could you wear it everyday, absolutely YES!!! this is what makes this fragrance undeniably irresistible. The packaging is simply gorgeous from the detailed shape of bottle to its sophisticated bow which adds a feminine touch .This truly is one of my favorite fragrances that can be worn in any season and by any truly confident woman.

BLACK OPAL RISQUÉ CRÈME LIPSTICK: BERRY WICKED

Its no secret that we all love a gorgeous lipstick and being able to pick from a wide range of shades is a plus. A lipstick, and might I add the right lipstick is able to add color to your face and flatter your skin tone as well. I was first introduced to the brand Black opal by my mom who was a total fanatic for their products because they worked so well with her skin type. Fast forward to Spring of 2019 I was gifted the black opal risqué crème lipstick in the shade berry wicked and all I can say is where have you been all my life ….When I say this lipstick stayed on the entire day I mean it , no smudging and I didn’t have that distasteful mark left on my teeth that we all despise. The lipstick also carries in it a moisturizer crème and prefect for preventing dry lips. If you enjoy paring your lipsticks with lip liners then this is perfect for that and as far as cost Black Opal has managed to keep its prices relatively low which a huge plus. So ladies add this to your lipstick collection and I promise you, you will not be disappointed.

I have used it as a pre shampoo treatment as well and it works well with softening hair, so if you are on your natural journey like me , you want to get on this asap ladies.. (and Gentlemen too!!)

gov e r nmnets As a young African too many times I’m stuck in the middle between my business and services offered in my country, sheepishly offering my apologies for the bad network or trying to convey to international friends or clients how I won’t be able to Skype because our electricity is only available at certain hours of the day. I am part of a WhatsApp group with many other young Africans around the world and many of them have shared the same sentiments.

in a digital world without being connected to the digital eco-system. Tech is a race, we can already see Apple and Huawei racing to get to 5G first with China and the United States throwing their muscle behind each company in order to win the digital future and amidst all this many countries in Africa still face major power blackouts, high internet charges and still poor to low quality education about the digital space in schools.

africa.com). Truer words have not been spoken. Kenya is another great example of an African country that took advantage of the digital ecosystem with Mpesa, President Kenyatta is quoted as having said that “with Mpesa Kenya has seen almost 97% of it’s population gain access to financial services,” -(asi-africa.com). Now if a populatin can access financial services easier, financial activities increase and payment is made easier. Millennials and Generation Z’s already live on their phones managing a digital and physical world effortlessly, especially because that’s all many have known. Imagine making all educational material available just over the phone, which I know is already being done in pockets of some African countries but predominantly by private organisations. It’s sad that in this day and age with that type of techonology being available a country can still delay by months to send school books to children in remote areas.

Of cause countries like Rwanda are inspiring stories where the government and President Kagame have placed a major emphasis on connecting their young populations with digital opportuities and literacy. The Rwandan government even uses Irembo a globally recognised e-government system portal that connects over 100 government services to its citizens, it provides a way for people to interact with government through a single portal regardless of the services they need to access, Rwandans can apply to register businesses, a drivers license and visitors can apply for visas all on one platform- (therockefell- Maybe the question isn’t about erfoundation) talk about convenience. whether governments in Africa and young people are having the same After traveling to Rwanda myself and conversation, many governments use using uninterrupted internet from the technological advancements in propabus to the conference venue I can say ganda rhetoric, maybe the actual disthat connectivity is definitely some- cussion is the ‘will’ of governments thing Rwanda is getting right and and the ‘will’ of young Africans. More jobs could also be created and many people could contribute if many African governments pro-actively looked at things that were progresseive such as internet connectivity, it really does look like a catch 22 situation from the surface, but maybe the question is more about priorities for both the governments in Africa and their young population.

Attention is a luxury in this fast paced world, thats why instagrammers are selling it, yes thats right they

are selling our likes, our shares, our views basically they are selling our attention to brands and guess what they’re not alone. Many businesses are vying for our attention it might not be in the same way that Instagram is but the competition is on and the stakes are high. Generation Z and Millennials aren’t interested in businesses that aren’t telling compelling stories, they know exactly how your business runs (probably already Youtube’d it) and they’re over just buying stuff because it’s cheaper, they want to buy the story of the brand, the meaning behind it, they want the identity and not just the product, which is why millennials are

running to support brands like Adidas that are collaborrating with creatives like Kanye West who have strong opinions (although not always favourable ones), they are out here retweeting and sharing their love for AirBnB and not Legacy hotels. The world is continually evolving and here are just a few brands that evolved with it and are taking advantage on their knowledge and brand affinity.

The Core Principles

6 ideas to get you up and working on your core An exercise to help your core. The first element of any fitness jounrey is working on the core of your beliefs about health and fitness. What do you really believe? Are your beliefs limiting or beneficial? What can you do to improve your beliefs? These are all important questions to ask before actually working out.

Boost Balance

“A strong core keeps your toroso in a more stable position when ever you move, whether you’re playing sports or just doing chores, says sports medicine specialist J. Christopher Mendler. That helps you avoid injury and makes your movements more efficient. Test your balance: stand on one leg with your arms extended. If you last 60 seconds, you pass.”-gq.com

Run Faster

Working on your core helps you run faster as your core is connected to your limbs so core workout is key for athletes.

There is research in Isokinetics and Exercise Science found that has provided evidence that shows that those who train their core, stand up straighter

Back Up

Having back trouble? Then core training might help you control (in certain positions such as core exercises that keep you relatibely still) the pain in your lower back, experts say it can even help prevent lower-back pain caused by certain straining

PLANKING “how to:

1. Rest your forearms on the floor, with your elbows directly underneath your shoulders and hands facing forward so that your arms are parallel. 2. Extend your legs out behind you and rest your toes on the floor. Your body should form one straight line from your shoulders to your heels. 3. Squeeze your entire core, your glutes, and your quads, and tuck your butt under a little to keep your lower back straight. Make sure you are not dropping your hips or hiking your butt up high toward the ceiling. 4. Position your head so that your neck is in a neutral position and your gaze is on your hands. What has your most profound lesson in life been? The most profound lesson in life has been a realization that I am not in control but the Universe/God is. However, our deeds influence our reality and if you are not humble, life will hmble you.

Who is Wendy Ntinezo? I am a very passionate, gentle and hard working individual who always strives for exellence in everything I put my mind into. I own Styled Timeless by Wendy which is 100% black owned production company that I founded in 2011.(now trading as Black Merge Tv) How did you find your career/passion path? I lost my grandmother who was my bestfriend in 2017 it was the most painful experience I’ve ever gone through. it took me into an unfamiliar space, where I was questioning myself about existance and the purpose of life, this lead me to a journey of self realization, it was not easy to grieve her and I realized I was in a dark place, my realization led me to my passion path, which is helping individuls that are seeking for comfort and nurturing. There is a big debate about opening up the industry but you have managed to start carving a niche for yourself, should people provide more opportunities for new comers in the media industry or should people fight their way in? It is a bit of both, the media industy has to open up and provide opportunites for new comers so the industry itself can grow. In the same breath, people should start

their own platforms and not wait for opportunities to come to them because I realised from a very young age I do not take charge of my life, no one else will. Looking up to Oprah, helped me find that truth. My mother always pushed me, I then decided to register StyledTimeless by Wendy .I have been doing my own thing since an early age. Worked as a freelance actress from the age of 16, both theatre and television, I also offered my servics for free at a Bonngoe productions during school holidays. People are also not willing to start from the bottom and sometims that can be a problem in-terms of growth and truely giving up time to learn how things work and create relationships. The industry eventually opens up to the deserving and those that are willing to learn. Many women find it challenging to self-promote (even when they have awesome ideas) how do you go about promoting your work/passion etc? The online space is growing in South Africa but it is a game of patience. It is not an easy journey though however, I find social media as a way to promote myself. I do try to look for other platforms which will expand my current show (Conversations We Never Had). I beleieve CWNH will touch and change alot of lives and my plan is to place it on a plaftorm that can reach millions of people. What was starting your own show like and did you have any fears you had to overcome? I honestly was fearless when I started, I felt brave and strong. I knew what to do and why I wanted to do it and that pushed me. When I launched the show,

nerves and anxiety kicked in. I was not sure how people would respond to my vulnerablilty and honesty from the guests. Spirituality is misunderstood and so my worry came from a place of the nature of the conversation itself. I did not expect the kind of support I received from people who started to talk to me via DM, asking for advice, that was a shocker but the moment I started filming, I had a deep knowing that ‘Conversations We Never Had’ was not in my power but I look at it as gift. I now see it as a way of connecting with my grandmother because, funny enough we had conversations around spirituality, life and we would cry together at times, we understood each other and felt a deeep connection. I asked myself why she had to pass on at the time she did but, it took me 3 years to understand that she’s with me, she is me and I am her extention. I choose to believe she helped me birth CWNH in the spiritual realm. Many people are afraid of failing how do you deal with failure? I have learnt to look at failure as lessons, the only person who can fail is the one that does nothing at all. I have no idea how many rejections I got and still do but I believe there’s always something to take from every No. There’s no such thing as failure. When I feel like I have ‘failed’ I try and be still and understand what I am doing wrong. What are your thoughts on mentoring? Do you have a mentor and would you mentor? I think its imperative for one to have a mentor/mentors. I currently do not have one but I do follow the likes of Bob Proctor, Eckhart Tolle, my Mother help me with decision making and exposed me to the book, The Secret. I use to listen to the audio while driving me to school. My boyfriend

has also put a lot of perceptive into my spiritual journey, we speak a lot about God, African Spirituality and mattters of life. Oprah opened me up to many questions and had a huge influence in my self realization, I find it easy to listen to her because of how she breaks down everything to the most simplist form. How can women strategically position themselves to stand out? Women should start imbracing who they truely are, the power they hold within themselves and not be afraid to be different. We all go through growth and its extremely uncomfortable and deattachment. the ego fears the unknown and so alot of peple slience that voice and avid that process. the more you deny it the more life becomes complicated and filled with problems because it is hard work to let go of an idea you have created of yourself, especially when the you know yourself. Your style seems eclectic and you’re always adventurous with your fashion choices, how do you style yourself and what inspires your style? (Our audience will kill us if we don’t ask) I dress accordingly to how I feel and a lot inspires me but most importantly is being myself. I am a very honest person to how I feel and that translates in my style. If you could have lunch with any 5 people whom would they be (alive or those who have passed on) and why? 1. My Grandmother 2. Bob Proctor 3. My Mother 4. Oprah 5. Jesus Christ I have alot of questions for Jesus and I’d love to have my last conversation with my Grandmother. I’d love to see how my mother would react catching up with my gran too. I would thank Bob Proctor for transforming my life and finally Thank Oprah for helping me find myself.

Do you work with a team and how did you find people to support your vision? Yes, I work with different individuals for growth purposes. I enjoy being a student of life and I think everyone has something to offer. According to the world economic forum for every dollar a man earns a woman earns only 54cents, what are your thoughts on women being paid less than men and how do you ensure you get the value you deserve in regard to work? We are all equal therefore we should be paid accordingly to the job position. I have leant not to compromise my worth. I have a rate card that guides me. What type of legacy do you want to leave? I want to be remebered as a human being that inspired people to look within themselves, embrace and find strength within them and embrace who they truly are.

_

We’d like to thank Wendy for this interview and the images used.

Morocco claims the areas of Ceuta, Melilla and Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, all of them under Spanish jurisdiction The capital is Rabat and the largest city Casablanca.Morocco spans an area of 710,850 km2 (274,460 sq mi) and has a population of over 35 million.” “Since the foundation of the first Moroccan state by Idris I in 788 AD, the country has been ruled by a series of independent dynasties, reaching its zenith under Almoravid and Almohad rule. The Marinid and Saadi dynasties resisted foreign domination into the 17th century, allowing Morocco to remain the only northwest African country to avoid Ottoman occupation. The Alaouite dynasty, which rules to this day, seized power in 1631. The country’s strategic location near the mouth of the Mediterranean attracted Europeans interest, and in 1912, Morocco was divided into

French and Spanish protectorates, with an international zone in Tangier. It regained its independence in 1956, and has since remained comparatively stable and prosperous by regional standards, with the fifth largest economy in Africa.”.

Morocco is an Instagrammers and Youtubers dream destination with everything from beautifully built historical buildings to the bright colours of clothes and spices, to the great taste of African cuisine, outdoor markets and sea shores. Morocco is a country steeped deep in history and religion with calls to prayer being heard resounding through the cities. Walks through back alleys in places like Fes are everyday charms for tourists and the markets are full with the hustles and bustle of merchants selling everything from spices, to lighting fixtures to clothes and so much more.

If you’re an explorer then head out to the Sahara dessert, hop on a camel or a 4 by 4 if thats more your style and get ready for an experience.

Although it’s buildings and many elements are historic, being Africa’s fifth largest economy Morocco is very modernised, you’ll be able to get a cup of coffee and internet as well as get some shopping at a mall done (just with great scenery). A couple of places to visit when in Morocco are Legzira beach because of their sea arches, Casablanca the economic hub, Meknes one of the imperial cities of Morocco, definitely Chefchaouen the blue city which is where most people visit for their beautiful blue buildings and scenary. Morocco is definitely a destination to visit at least once in your lifetime.
