As technology advances, The amount of data accumulated worldwide is increasing. The amount of data accumulated within the city at an unprecedented level has led to the use of more electricity and the production of a lot of heat. This figure has prompted companies in the world's metropolitan areas to more efficiently utilize data and the heat generated.

This project is a data storage center using waste heat, which is proposed as a countermeasure against the current and future crises in the city. It presents an alternative to utilize the waste heat generated by many commercial buildings along with programs needed in Midtown Manhattan. In addition, it can be confirmed that a sustainable building plan using TIMBER can be proposed and it can play the role of a park, an existing site.

_Commercial Building Electricity Consumption (MWH)

Current Situation

As one of the world's largest metropolitan areas, New York City in the United States has the highest commercial building electricity usage. The site is proposed as a park surrounded by tall buildings. This is where the consumption of a lot of data within the city of Manhattan is required.

It is a wooden structure module that can be assembled into 'GAGU structure'.

1. PROJECT SUMMARY

Pointed Currrent Situation :

As technology advances, The amount of data accumulated worldwide is increasing. In the future, the development of cities using data is expected Accordingly, the data market for managing and storing not only commercial usage but individual data usage are growing. The situation that the energy consumption of data centers running with a large number of digital devices is enormous is one of the important reason of this project.

Site Info :

New York, NY 10018, Bryantpark

As one of the world's largest metropolitan areas, New York City in the United States has the highest commercial building electricity usage. The figure is more than twice as high as that of LA, the second highest in the US at 26,024,809 (MHP). In particular, the distribution of banks, offices, television networks, and entertainment industries in Manhattan's Midtown necessitates the existing of data centers. This site is proposed as a park surrounded by tall buildings. This is where the consumption of a lot of data within the city of Manhattan is required. Through the data center on the park, we propose convergence between existing green areas and programs for the city using data.

Building Info : -Floor

Proposed Programs :

Programs are proposed flexibly in relation to algorithms based on data.

Data Center - Data center is a convergence of ever-changing programs and sustainable. Smart Farm - Waste heat such as server room heat and carbon dioxide is used in indoor greenhouses. Studio - YouTube, a private, collaborative workspace for individual creators' capabilities and stages. Office - Coworking space for farming and data center operation.

Design Concept :

As data accumulates, it gives us a much wider variety of algorithms. Based on the accumulated data, it allows users to combine and experience optimal programs. In the future, the relationship between programs we will experience will be more fluid. Formation of programs to expand necessary facilities in the city. → Vertical mix of in-building programs for aggregated data utilization. → Flexible combination between units arranged to execute the formed program It is a wooden structure module that can be assembled into 'GAGU structure'.

Sustainability Strategies :

Solar Panel

Solar Panels on the tower containers offset energy consumed for Data keeping and light on the day. Water Re-Use

Rainfall collected in underground water tanks through several buildings is used for agriculture and recycled water through heat pumps.

Waste Heat Re-Use

The waste heat that passes through the double-glazed façade helps power the data center and is used to operate the agricultural facilities in the tower

Double Skin Facade

: 61F, -Gross Floor Area : 728,040m ² , -Height of the Building : 248m

Through interspaces in the façade using the stack effect, internal air circulation, which is insufficient with natural ventilation, is led. The inner shell use well – insulates timber to reduce heat loss.
