New Jersey is taking its first steps toward regulating blockchain and cryptocurrencies, with legislation that many believe will encourage the creation of legitimate fintech and cryptocurrency businesses in the state. The Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee approved legislation sponsored by Senator Nellie Pou (D-Passaic/Bergen) that would establish the “Digital Asset and Blockchain Technology Act.” This came on the heels of the passage in the State Assembly of a similar bill sponsored by Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-District 19) and her colleagues.

The U.S. is planning to hand out $10 billion to help upstart companies gain access to capital in a bid to rev up business in disadvantaged communities and spur a broader economic recovery from the pandemic.
The State Small Business Credit Initiative will direct money to states, territories and tribal governments for programs that provide venture capital or encourage private lenders to issue loans to small firms. The program revives a policy put into place following the 20072009 recession, when banks cut back on lending to small firms.

Patel Consultants is currently representing a Professional Services Firm (with local offices in Northern Jersey and NY) that is searching for a DE&I Leader. Some travel required This is a first of its kind role for the firm focused in impacting the firm’s recruiting, hiring and retention of diverse team members. Responsibilities: -. Designing/implementing a recruitment strategy/plan for finding, attracting, interviewing, hiring, and retaining team members at all levels. - Supporting the firm’s DE&I Committee and related committees and groups. - Overseeing the firm’s DEI training. - Preparing responses to client DEI-oriented RFPs and assisting with RFIs that inquire about the firm’s DEI work/initiatives. - Building/maintaining networks to attract diverse talent. - Creating/maintaining interview protocols for diverse candidates and teaching firm team members on best practices. - Creating/overseeing the firm’s DEI-related mentoring programs. - Maintaining the effectiveness of the firm’s website related to DEI. - Assisting w/ the firm’s marketing strategies as related to DE&I - Creating, and serving as the primary liaison to ERG’s, an ally network and other DEI subgroups. - Creating content for key marketing materials including social media posts and articles. - Representing the firm in public settings and promoting the firm as an extraordinarily inclusive workplace.
Qualifications: 1. A degree in a field related to DE&I (psychology, sociology, HR, history, African-American studies, women’s studies, LGBTQi2 studies) along with a strong record of workplace leadership in the DEI field. 2. A proven/demonstrable ability to create, grow and maintain professional networks, which would directly lend to diverse talent interest . 3. Proficiency in online platforms such as MS Teams and Zoom, and w/ Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook, Excel spreadsheets and internet resources and researching.
