Letter from the Chairman Dear Members and Friends,
s A. Medina, Esq Carlo . Chairman shccnj
On behalf of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey, I would like to thank you for your continued support, membership, and commitment to the Chamber’s mission. The year 2018 has been another successful year for the Chamber. Since its beginnings, the Chamber has been a driving force behind ensuring that our community is prosperous and vibrant.
This year we continued to create new business opportunities for our members and the Latino community as a whole. The Entrepreneurship Training Program, many special events, meetings, networking get-togethers, educational workshops, and expos offered our members many avenues to get involved. In addition to our signature conferences, networking opportunities, and entrepreneurship program, this year we hosted new events such as the AECOM Procurement event, the Latina panel, and the NJEDA Opportunities discussion. As the voice of the 119,000 Hispanic businesses and all those who serve them, we are committed to communicating important issues and positions, creating new partnerships, and building new opportunities for the community. We look forward to continuing the collaboration with all our members, hearing their concerns and focusing on the empowerment, growth, and enrichment of the Latino business community in the State of New Jersey. Thank you to all of the Chamber members, Board of Directors, volunteers, social media ambassadors, and most importantly, the entire Chamber staff that has been working diligently to make sure that our Chamber is all that it can be. Finally, I wish you all a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year 2019!

About the Chamber HISTORY The Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey (SHCC-NJ), had its beginnings in 1989 when Business leaders met with Governor Tom Kean and were encouraged to start a Chamber to foster, mentor and train Hispanic Owned business in New Jersey. Over the years, NJ BIZ has ranked our chamber among the largest in the state. As a not-for-profit organization for over 28 years, SHCC-NJ has become the voice of the 119,000 Hispanic Owned businesses that contribute over $20 Billion to the State’s economy. The Chamber is the premier vehicle to access the Latino community and its formidable purchasing power, as evidenced by our growth of non-Hispanic membership reaching 45 percent. PURPOSE SHCCNJ is a voluntary membership network of individuals, businesses, Hispanic Chambers of Commerce and professional associations across New Jersey. The Chamber has been actively involved with various local organizations as well as the U.S. Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. We have leveraged those relationships to grow our Chamber in order to further serve our members. We are always working to find innovative ways to add additional benefits and value to our members and the community at large. MISSION Our mission is to promote the continued growth and development of New Jersey businesses. We accomplish our mission by: • Expanding business opportunities • Educate and train entrepreneurs and business owners • Encouraging mutually beneficial ties with the public and private sectors • Serving as an active and visible advocate in the political process • Actively promoting trade between the business community of State, National and International counterparts OBJECTIVES The Objectives of the Statewide Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of New Jersey are: • To provide technical assistance to small businesses, professional associations, and entre preneurs via our Entrepreneur Training Program, regional meetings, seminars, conferences and annual convention. • To strengthen and expand the network of Hispanic and professional business associations at the local and state level. • To identify and communicate the needs of the Hispanic and General business community by increasing relations with the corporate sector. • To influence legislation, policies and program that have a positive impact on the small business community.– To continue to provide strong leadership for New Jersey with the United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. • To provide leadership and support for excellence in education NOW for future business leaders.

Helping Hispanic Entrepreneurs Launch Businesses and Drive Growth Hispanic entrepreneurs are a driving force for the U.S. economy:
Hispanics open new businesses at a rate 2.5 faster than the rest of the population. In New Jersey only, more than 100 new Hispanic-owned businesses are created each week, quickly adding up to the existing 119,000 businesses that contribute $20 billion to the state economy.
Increasing barriers exist, compared to non-Latinos: Such hurdles include language and cultural differences, barriers to accessing capital and credit, lack of a supportive network of experienced professionals, and limited opportunities to scale up into new markets.
For the last 4 years, the HETP program has been providing bilingual classroom instruction and individual coaching to Hispanic entrepreneurs, at no cost. Our program covers all relevant pillars of business creation and expansion, including business plans, marketing strategy, legal, insurance and accounting topics, pricing, negotiation, public speaking, and many others.
