Did you ever have one of those days when all you can do is just sit back and shake your head? I’m periodically reminded that there are some women in this community who, although we would like to think it doesn’t exist within lesbian relationships, really tend to act like men when things don’t work out. Momentarily, think about that construction worker that stands on the street corner and whistles at a pretty women as she walks by. He then compliments her various body parts in some way, with a smile. He tells her how much he would like to spend some quality time with her. And suddenly, as she walks right on by without giving him a second glance, he completely turns on her and calls her things that would make his mama slap him if she heard. Now, go to another place where a woman leaves her boyfriend and he begs her to forgive him and come back. He tells her he loves her more than his life and is so sorry for every mistake he has ever made. Then suddenly, when she doesn’t come running back, he completely turns on her, threatens to harm every person in her life and then tells her she has an unattractively fat ass. Okay, so that is the kind of behavior I am talking about…but from a woman towards another woman. I’m shaking my head again just thinking about it. Let’s face it, sometimes, no matter how hard we try, relationships just don’t work. Sometimes it’s us. Sometimes it’s them. Most of the time, it truly is both of us. As much as they say there is someone for everyone, not everyone is compatible. One woman’s treasure may surely be another woman’s trash. I’m not saying that break-ups are easy and they should just roll off our backs. But I am saying that there is a big, fat, ugly line between being an adult and being an idiot. It’s not hard to miss. It takes a great deal of pre-meditated effort to actually cross it. I’m not always surprised when I hear tale of women going through this kind of thing with exboyfriends or husbands. But I have to admit it always makes me tilt the terrier head when I hear it coming from a gay woman about her ex-girlfriend. I suppose it’s just that part of me that wants to believe that women are better than those kinds of men, and that gay women are even better. I’m suddenly reminded of the words spoken so eloquently by Miss Latrice Royale, finalist on the current season of Ru Paul’s Drag Race, so many times in the past six weeks, “Good God, girl, get a grip!” (Not to be confused with other notable quotes like, “It’s not that serious. Really. You’re a man in a wig.”) But seriously, I know there are some of you who, contrary to what I want to believe, have acted a fool and crossed that big, fat, ugly line when some woman broke up with you. Some of you might even be doing that right now. Well stop it. Take a step back, give yourself a long, hard look in the mirror and ask yourself if this is the kind of woman you really want to be. Ask yourself how you would feel if some guy was doing the same thing to your sister or mother. Then ask yourself if you would counsel your sister or mother to go back to that guy or if you would tell them to run for the hills. Seriously. There’s an old saying that reminds us that the only thing in this world we can ever really control is our own behavior. So, ladies, please let’s govern ourselves accordingly. See you next month.

OUR FUND LAUNCHES SOUTH FLORIDA LGBT COMMUNITY ASSESSMENT SURVEY Our Fund, a community foundation, is conducting a study to better understand the South Florida LGBT community’s needs. The online, anonymous survey is designed to evaluate LGBT issues such as housing, education, discrimination, health, aging, arts/culture and others. The results of the study will be shared by Our Fund and used by the South Florida LGBT non-profit community to address the issues raised, develop programs and to advocate for government and private sector funding. “ALL CHILDREN-ALL FAMILIES” INITIATIVE PROUDLY ANNOUNCES PARTNERSHIP TO OPEN MORE LOVING HOMES FOR CHILDREN According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, over 107,000 children in the U.S. foster care system are waiting for permanent homes. The “All Children – All Families” initiative of the Human Rights Campaign Foundation announced a new partnership with RaiseAChild.US, a nonprofit with the mission to promote and encourage the LGBT community to build families of their own through fostering and adoption. The pilot project will produce recruitment events and media campaigns in major cities across the country, raising visibility of LGBT parents and the fostering and adoption process. The initiative provides professional training and technical assistance for implementing inclusive policies and best practices for working with LGBT foster-adoptive parents. “We have over 50 adoption agencies engaged in our ‘All Children—All Families’ initiative,
these are agencies that need and want LGBT individuals and couples to come forward. The RaiseAChild.US campaign will help motivate many people in our community to take that first step knowing that we will connect them to an agency that truly welcomes and values them,” said Ellen Kahn, HRC Family Project Director and a professional social worker. According to 2010 U.S. Census data, children are being raised in over one million LGBTheaded households. RaiseAChild.US Media Director John Ireland explained, “Our families blend into every community, leading to the misperception that gay parenting is something new. Get ready to celebrate the “Colors of Pride” during one of the biggest pride events in Florida and the largest single-day event in Miami Beach, Miami Beach Gay Pride. In 2011, the festivities attracted more than 40,000 people from all walks of life, all parts of the country, and all age groups. For 2012, the parade moves to Sunday to allow organizers an additional day of activity leading up to the popular parade and festival, said Babak Movahedi, president of the Pride Board of Directors. In addition to the parade moving to Sunday, Movahedi said the expanded line-up of Pride activities will include a variety of events and activities, including a Thursday night kick-off party, a Friday night VIP reception followed by a block party on Lincoln Road, a Saturday pool party at the Surfcomber Hotel, and a Sunday night closing party after the parade and festival. Can you say “divas?” Miami Beach Gay Pride will be diva-licious this year when an extraordinary line-up of musical guests take to the stage during the Miami Beach Gay Pride Festival, which takes place immediately following the colorful parade. Scheduled performers include Kristine W, Wynter Gordon, Jessica Sutta from the Pussy Cat Dolls, JoJo, Frenchie Davis and Inaya Day. The most effective way for me to keep in shape is through clean eating. You would be astonished by the amount of veggies I consume! My physical regime is a combo of Yoga, Trapeze, Hiking, Drumming and good sex. (laughs) When I asked around about your sexuality before this interview, the answer I got the most was “Traci is ‘openly herself .’ “ Are we sticking with that today? Girls want to know, you know!
(laughs) Well, that is true. I’ve never been one to scream my sexual preference from the mountain top. (Well, there was that one drunken evening in my early 20’s, but I digress.) I’m representing the B of the LGBT, but I prefer my own self appointed term, Bi-dykling. I am glad you are representing the B in LGBT. Is there a relationship we should celebrate or that you can share with our readers?
Well, thank you! Yes, I have a wonderful woman in my life. We actually celebrated our first year together on April Fool’s Day! Awesome, congratulations then! Was it hard for you coming to terms with having feelings/attraction for a woman?
Born of Syrian and Cherokee descent in Anchorage, Alaska on December 22, 1973, Traci Dinwiddie grew up fascinated by the realm of science fiction and the entertainment industry. With her deepest inspirations stemming from Star Wars, Dinwiddie found a passion in transforming herself into Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, or even Han Solo by reenacting scenes and producing a one-woman show in her home basement. Thank you! It was very hard to come to terms with my sexuality. I was incredibly confused as a young girl. How does one come to terms with being attracted to both males and females? I didn’t have any healthy role models and felt like I wasn’t completely embraced by the gay community. I’d been out with my parents and sisters since my early 20’s, but rarely spoke publicly about it. More recently, I attended a Sundance LGBT panel interview for my role as a bisexual woman in To.get.her (which won the Audience Choice award in 2011). I was asked about my sexuality and shyly came out to the audience. Afterward, a cute, young boy came up to me and thanked me for being honest. He told me he was also bi and really needed to know others like him. This impacted me tremendously. I think for someone who is public like yourself, it must be twice as hard to come out about your sexuality. Did you feel kind of on the spot at Sundance?
Let’s go over some of the terms used to describe you: actress, Yogini, West African drummer, part time bad-ass and full time fruit cake. Percentage-wise, which fits you best?
Yes, it’s daunting to come out. Honestly, I feel put on the spot every time I’m questioned about my sexuality in interviews. Only since I’ve played a lesbian and a bisexual in films have I been asked about it publicly. I certainly don’t want to hide it, but I also don’t want it stamped on my forehead. There is so much more to me than my sexual orientation. That being said, I do understand that we all need our tribe. I look forward to the days when we can all relax and love who we love.

How did you get into acting? What fascinates you about it?
Everything. Each role is a new dance, a painting, a poem- I get to try on gestures, costumes and words. The human spirit fascinates me with its complex vacillation between shadow and light. No one is an angel, and yet, everyone has their own gorgeous radiance about them. It’s like a spiritual treasure hunt for me as I research a character’s essence.

Social media has become a huge part of my life and career. It thrills me to have the ability to share my love for creative living with people all over the world with a single push of a “post” button. Through my FB fan page, Twitter and my personal website (tracidinwiddie.com), I’ve been honored to collectively share births, deaths, weddings (gay and straight), holidays, healings, fitness tips, filmmaking endeavors, travel, triumphs, and heart-felt lessons learned. I’m so proud of my T~bugs! BTW, there is something quite magical about my fan page. It’s no secret that several couples have met and even become engaged on my page. I’ve also had the honor of officiating the wedding of my T~bugs, Mrs. & Mrs. Crespin, who had initially tweeted to me “Get ordained & marry us” on the eve of NY celebrating the legality of same sex marriage. So, I did. You’re about to head up Yoga classes on a “Sweet Cruise” to Cozumel this September. This will be your second Sweet trip. What grabbed your attention about Sweet Travel?
Sweet is an incredible company. It’s the perfect combination of community service work and fun in the sun for women who love women as well as gay-friendly folk. I’m so inspired by Shannon and what she’s
created and can hardly wait for September! On our last trip, I taught yoga classes to one of the wildest bunch of babes. Honestly, their raucous energy reminded me of my days teaching yoga in a women’s prison (in the best of ways)! They’ve got spunk! If you were steering the Sweet ship, where would you take your passengers?
Sweet, let’s kick it in Bali! I’ve wanted to experience that gorgeous place for a long time. Some of my favorite destinations I’ve explored thus far would be Cappadocia, Turkey and the jungles of Panama. Both have this other worldly energy. They are a must visit! You’ve got a few projects underway at the moment, like the modern day fairy tale, Anhedonia and a stop-action animation film by Michael Granberry. What can you tell us about them?
Anhedonia is my first film project as a producer. It was filmed in my adopted home town of Wilmington, NC. This is a story about Anhedonia,the eldest daughter of a rich CEO, who loses her will to live. The CEO engages the townspeople in a contest to win a million dollars if they can inspire her to live again. One of my good friends Dylan Patterson wrote this, and I play the lead, Anhedonia. It’s currently being edited by James Devlin and will be making the festival rounds this fall. Awakened is a sci-fi feature film about a group of insomniacs that join a

sleep study that goes terribly wrong. I play Lula Baker who enjoys her pot more than anything in the world. She was a hoot to play, too. My project with Michael Granberry is one I’m most excited about. Unfortunately, it’s backed by people that want to keep it “hush hush” until it’s released. I can tell you that I am the voice for the leading lady as well as many other “guest” characters. It’s so damn funny and really touches on a lot of today’s topics. Please do keep your eye out for this one! When you are looking for your next project, is there ever a reason not to take a lesbian role? How important is the mainstream work?
I can’t think of a reason not to take a lesbian role on that merit alone; however, taking on any role requires more than just knowing what her sexual preference would be. I’m delighted by diverse characters, and I need variation as an artist. I’m a huge fan of indie films, and yet, I’d be game for another major mainstream project. My biggest goal right now is to land a regular role on a fabulous show. Tis a shame the episodic The L Word is over. Do you ever worry, career-wise, or personally, about being pigeon-holed into lesbian roles?
I worry about being pigeon-holed, period. I’m not afraid of playing a lesbian. In fact, I rather delight in it. We need more lesbian and bi roles out there. We need more stories about lesbian life without all the “coming out” business, in my opinion. Let’s see something about two women struggling about health insurance, marriage, or the well being of their much loved child! Ya hear what I’m screaming? Awakened and Brandt Point are both projects you’ve wrapped recently. When and where can fans see these?
Awakened is in post production for a while, so I suggest all of your readers join my fan page and visit my site for updates! Brandt Pointe is a pilot that is currently being shopped around. It’s a sweet project. It reminds me of Dawson’s Creek (which is actually where I got my start as an actress!).
Free Fall at my theatre company, The Actors’ Gang. Stefan Haves, from Cirque Du Soleil, came to direct our show. Dreya Weber had a fabulous trapeze act in it, and we shared a dressing room during the run. I told her I was intrigued by Trapeze, and she encouraged me to take it on. So I did—with gusto! Aside from acting, are you interested in directing or writing as well?
Yes and yes. I’m writing a few web series now. One is a wacky tale of a woman in the throes of Perimenopause. It’s my comedic homage to all the ladies and their hormones or lack thereof! I’m always reading scripts, hunting for the perfect project with which to debut as a director. With reality TV having such a major impact on “financed, written and produced” work out there, do you think webseries are making their mark in media now?
Absolutely, and I’m on that train right now. As an election year, what are your political views on who our next president should be or you would like to see elected?
How did West African drumming become a part of your life?
I’m still navigating the murky waters of politics. I always try to choose the lesser evil.
I’ve been studying traditional West African drumming for years. A gal pal of mine gave me one of her Ashiko drums, and I’ve been groovin’ ever since.
What’s the best thing about being Traci Dinwiddie?

The Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival (MGLFF), celebrating 14 years as one of the top LGBT Film Festivals in the country, has built an international reputation for bringing premiere LGBT films to South Florida. This year’s nine-day Festival will run April 27-May 6, 2012 with screening locations in Miami Beach and Coral Gables. The MGLFF will feature more than 50 films from around the world, including short films, documentaries and feature-length movies that support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender communities. As one of the first LGBT Film Festivals of the calendar year, the MGLFF will be showcasing several films never before screened. The MGLFF kickoff women’s event will take place at Eros Lounge on Saturday, April 21st. “I’m a Celesbian,” a campy night of famous LBT women in film, will be showing sneak previews of some of our women’s line-up. There will be film fest ticket giveaways and more surprises. Cover is $10. Doors open at 10pm. At this year’s opening night reception on Friday, April 27, the MGLFF will be presenting the inaugural Lavender Heart Award to country singer Chely Wright, and the Pat-
rick Angel Award to former board member Mark “MarkyG” Gilbert. The Lavender Heart Award was created by the MGLFF to recognize an LGBT individual in the arts/entertainment industry who has demonstrated extreme acts of courage while promoting the LGBT community in a positive manner. Last year, Wright was one of the first country music stars to publicly come out of the closet. Wright recorded her struggle and journey through intimate video diaries and interviews with family members, her management team and key players in Nashville that made up her documentary, “Wish Me Away.” The Patrick Angel Award is an honor the MGLFF gives each year to someone who has brought a positive impact to art programs in the community and to the MGLFF in particular. MarkyG served on the MGLFF board of directors for seven years, hosted radio shows, is currently heavily involved in local LGBT nonprofit organizations such as the Miami-Dade Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce and acts as the Co-Emcee at the Miami Beach Gay Pride Parade each year. The MGLFF will be hosting five special events that include Opening Night, Centerpiece, Works in Progress, Friday Night Spotlight
and Closing Night. The opening and closing night parties will take place at The Colony Theater, 1040 Lincoln Road, Miami Beach. CONGRATULATIONS ON THE CENTER YOU RECENTLY OPENED, LIKEME LIGHTHOUSE. WAS THE CENTER THE OBVIOUS NEXT STEP AFTER THE BOOK, LIKE ME, AND DOCUMENTARY, WISH ME AWAY? The LikeMe Lighthouse has been in the works for about 18 months and it’s really been amazing to get it to the point of opening the doors. In many ways, the work has just begun, but we do feel a sense of accomplishment to know that we have been able to see this idea come to life. Once I came out (in May 2012), I began to realize the importance of community and connectivity and that’s what the LikeMe Lighthouse strives to do for the Kansas City area. It’s pretty exciting. BY THE WAY, HOW IS MARRIED LIFE TREATING YOU? Married life is great. We’re having fun–continuing to learn and grow as a couple and planning (as best we can) for forever. WHAT IS THE IDEA BEHIND LIKEME AND WHAT EMPTY SPACES DO YOU WISH FOR IT TO FILL WITHIN THE LGBT COMMUNITY IN KANSAS? LikeMe, the non-profit which oversees the Lighthouse, was founded due to many experiences I was having while out on my book (Like Me) and record tour. HOW DIFFERENT IS THIS AWARD VS ONE FROM THE ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC OR THE KANSAS MUSIC HALL OF FAME ? I’m really humbled to be receiving The Lavender Heart Award and I must say that being recognized for doing something that so many people in the world do (coming out, living authentically and doing community service work), yet never receive an award... well, it just doesn’t feel right. That said, I feel lucky to be able to use my voice for positive change in the community in any capacity. There’s a bit of a difference in how I feel about being given The Lavender Heart Award and a music award, but not that much– you see, music and my emotional self are so connected and I feel like my being out is all about my emotional self. The bill will force all women considering abortions to get ultrasounds and require their doctors to ask if they’d like a picture. And honestly the few kids these women did keep are not taken care of properly. Instead of this solution maybe we should just consider sterilizing certain people for humanity sake. Candace L: I think it’s interesting that men want to force women to put a medical instrument in their vagina, what’s that all about? I have an idea to force men into rectal exams before any, any sexual contact... Vanessa M: Ridiculous. Forcing this on woman is wrong. What if the woman getting the ultrasound is a rape victim? Or a young girl? Who, may I add, I’m sure did not single handedly make the decision that lead to conception. Yet women have to be put thru this “feel guilty yet?” It’s wrong. Nikki O: This is crazy. Just more torture and pain added towards women. After all, it is women’s history month, haven’t women been fighting towards women’s rights and independent choices without shame or guilt...Shame on you states that add it into legislation. If women are forced into this then the father should be too, in the room with her of course. Sheri K: Yet again, women are forced to defend their decisions with their body and pay for it with their peace of mind. It’s just HORRIBLE that a female has to endure this at a single most nerve wracking time in her life and be forced to pay for a decision that she CHOSE would better her life(for whatever reason)... noticias LOS HIJOS DE MATRIMONIOS IGUALITARIOS PODRÁN LLEVAR AMBOS APELLIDOS El Registro Civil de la Ciudad de Buenos Aires dictó una resolución que protege los derechos de los hijos de los matrimonios de personas del mismo sexo, que podrán ser inscriptos con el apellido de ambos cónyuges. A través de un comunicado, el director del Registro Civil, Alejandro Lanús, explicó que “en el acta de nacimiento deberá consignarse el nombre del niño, la niña y su apellido de conformidad con lo que soliciten la madre y su cónyuge, el de cualquiera de ellas o ambos en el orden que solicitaran”. A su vez, la Subsecretaría de Justicia porteña, que dirige Javier Buján, sostuvo que la medida “administrativa es un avance más a favor de la igualdad y contra la discriminación, y está acorde con la Convención de los Derechos del Niño”. Y agregó que la resolución “da precisión a algo no especificado en la nueva ley de matrimonio igualitario”. La medida, concluye el parte de prensa, consagra “los derechos sucesorios del menor respecto a ambos progenitores sean o no biológicos, y se resguarda la patria potestad”. Mientras tanto, en la justicia porteña existen al menos dos acciones de amparo presentadas por parejas de lesbianas que reclaman que se les permita reconocer a sus hijos de igual forma que un hombre no casado se presenta para reconocer su paternidad de un hijo inscripto por una madre soltera.
NICARAGUA DESCARTA LEY DE MATRIMONIO GAY El Congreso de Nicaragua descartó a finales de Marzo la legalización del matrimonio gay o la adopción de niños por parejas homosexuales, en el Código de la Familia que comenzará a discutir este mes de abril próximo, informaron fuentes legislativas. “El nuevo Código reconocerá sólo la unión entre un hombre y una mujer” a través del matrimonio civil o en “unión de hecho estable”, aseguró el vicepresidente de la Comisión de la Mujer, Juventud, Niñez y Familia del Parlamento, el sandinista Emilio López en declaraciones a la televisión local. Además, se prohibirá la adopción de ni-
ños nicaragüenses por parejas del mismo sexo, ya sean nacionales o extranjeras, aunque procedan de países que permiten el matrimonio gay. La diputada de la oposición liberal Lizeth Montenegro dijo que la Iglesia católica les solicitó dejar clara su posición en la nueva ley, para evitar malas interpretaciones. “Lo que se persigue es que se mantenga la reproducción humana” y no que “desaparezca”, argumentó la legisladora. El Código de la Familia es una recopilación de todas las leyes relativas a la mujer, la niñez y la juventud que han sido aprobadas en los últimos años, con algunas modificaciones y nuevas regulaciones. La iniciativa facultará por primera vez a los padres a demandar a sus hijos una pensión alimenticia cuando tengan más de 60 años de edad, si enfrentan necesidades. También prohibirá a los colegios expulsar a las estudiantes menores de 18 años embarazadas y aumentará el valor de la pensión alimentaria que los padres deben pagar para la manutención de sus hijos en caso de divorcio.
APURAN LEY ANTIDISRIMINATORIA TRAS EL CRIMEN DE UN JOVEN GAY EN CHILE El joven Daniel Zamudio murió después de tres semanas de agonía por las lesiones y torturas que sufrió al ser atacado por supuestos neonazis por su orientación sexual en el Parque San Borja, de la capital chilena. Representantes de diferentes sectores políticos y organizaciones sociales de Chile pidieron acelerar el trámite de un proyecto de ley antidiscriminación, en medio de la conmoción causada por la muerte de Daniel. Zamudio murió el 29 de marzo tras sufrir tres semanas de agonía por las heridas y lesiones y torturas que recibió el 3 de ese mes al ser atacado por un grupo de apariencia neonazi. La novedad originó una rápida reacción del presidente Sebastián Piñera, de gira por Asia, quien a través de su cuenta en Twitter remarcó que serán castigados los responsables del crimen.La directora del Instituto Nacional de Derechos Humanos, Lorena Fries, reconoció que el Estado chileno está en deuda en materia de legislación contra actos discriminatorios.

El Séptimo Juzgado de Garantía de Santiago fijó para el próximo 23 de abril, a las 09:00 horas, la audiencia donde el Ministerio Público reformalizará a los cuatro imputados del homicidio calificado del joven Daniel Zamudio.

¿Volando muy Tal parece que este 2012 empezó con buenas nuevas en cuanto a los derechos para nuestra comunidad, al menos en este país. Los dos primeros meses llegaron con las agradables noticias de estados que aprobaban la sociedad de convivencia (domestic partnership tanto para parejas hetero como homosexuales) y también legalizaron las uniones civiles para parejas del mismo sexo como es el caso de la ley en Hawaii que entró en efecto el 1ro de Enero de este año. Se espera que la ley del matrimonio gay en el estado de Washington, que firmó su gobernadora, entre en efecto el 7 de Junio, 2012 siempre y cuando los opositores no lleven la ley a las elecciones generales del 6 de Noviembre. Igualmente es el caso de Maryland y Maine más no el de New Jersey. El 16 de Febrero pasado, la Legislatura de Nueva Jersey aprobó una medida que prevé el matrimonio homosexual, pero el gobernador vetó el proyecto de ley y se presentará a los votantes como un referéndum. Como en todo, dentro de las leyes existen los rangos. Está la mamá de los pollitos que es el matrimonio, luego la unión civil, luego la sociedad de convivencia y luego… ¡la gozadera! Personalmente, creo que la razón por la cual no se aprueba el uso de la palabra “matrimonio” cuando hablamos de parejas del mismo sexo es por su “obvia” relación con la religión. A ese nivel, estamos luchando por ser reconocidos ante un monstruo enorme que jamás, jamás lo va a reconocer como tal. Jamás. El “matrimonio” homo en los Estados Unidos no es reconocido por el Gobierno Federal, pero si individualmente a nivel de estados. Massachusetts fue el primer estado del país en aprobar el matrimonio gay en el 2004. Actualmente, seis estados ofrecen licencias matrimoniales a parejas del mismo sexo: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York y Vermont. No podemos dejar de lado el fiasco que sucedió en California con las bodas realizadas entre el 16 de Junio y el 4 de Noviembre, 2008 que fueron invalidadas al aprobarse la llamada Proposition 8. Desde Junio de 2011, 12 estados prohíben el matrimonio del mismo sexo a través de estatutos y 29 a través de la constitución del estado. Las uniones o matrimonios civiles, que tiene beneficios similares a las del matrimonio, son legalmente ofrecidos en Illinois, New Jersey, Delaware, Hawaii, Rhode Island.

Dentro de la Florida, aunque no se ofrecen en todo el estado, las ciudades y condados que ofrecen domestic partnership son: Fort Lauderdale (Al menos un miembro de la pareja debe de ser residente o estar empleado por el condado); Gainesville; Key West; Kissimmee (para empleados de la ciudad); Miami Beach, Condado Leon; Condado Miami-Dade (Residentes del condado o al menos un miembro de la pareja debe ser empleado del condado); Miami y South Miami ofrecen beneficios adicionales a parejas registradas en el condado; Condado Orange; Orlando; Condado Palm Beach (Al menos un miembro de la pareja debe de ser residente o estar empleado por el condado); Sarasota; St. Cloud (empleados de la ciudad); Tampa (Al menos un miembro de la pareja debe de estar empleado por la ciudad); West Palm Beach. La Constitución del estado de Florida prohíbe el matrimonio o cualquier otro tipo de unión a parejas del mismo sexo. Fuera de Estados Unidos, los dos únicos países de habla hispana donde el matrimonio gay es legal son Argentina desde el 22 de Julio, 2010 y España desde Julio 3, 2005. Los demás son países Europeos que funcionan con otro tipo de cultura. Dentro de algunas jurisdicciones, el matrimonio es legal en la Ciudad de México desde el 4 de Marzo, 2010 (reconocido en todo el país) y en el estado de Alagoas en Brasil, aprobado el 6 de Enero, 2012. En Latinoamérica las uniones civiles o sociedad de convivencia son legales en la Ciudad de México (Noviembre 2006); Brasil (2004); Colombia (Enero 2009); Ecuador (2008) y Uruguay desde Enero, 2008 convirtiendose así en el primer “país” de América Latina en tener una ley de unión civil o ley de unión concubinaria. Hoy por la mañana—antes de cerrar esta edición—al revisar mi email, leí una noticia de que el Cardenal líder de la iglesia de Inglaterra iba a incluir en su sermón el cambio parcial en la oposición de la Iglesia Católica sobre la igualdad de matrimonio civil para parejas homosexuales y parece admitirá que el matrimonio civil será una realidad a pesar de su oposición. Obviamente está refiriéndose a la Iglesia de ese país, de no ser así ese anuncio vendría desde la Ciudad del Vaticano y me parece que… ¡allí si estamos volando muy alto!
