Showcase Weekend Testimony The reason I came to SVA, I believe, was God’s divine appointment. Two years ago, Shenandoans came to sing at my church. I was really excited and started to ask around, “Where do they come from?” Someone answered they were from Shenandoah Valley Academy. As a little girl I always dreamed about going to an Adventist school. I started to pray and pray because I had the hope that God was going to make it possible. But also, my God is powerful, and according to His word, everything we ask for in the name of our beloved Jesus will be given unto us. I asked for it from the bottom of my heart and with all my strength. Once I looked up the school and became a little discouraged because of the fees. But I did not give up hope. I talked to my brother and he said, “Let’s work hard and pray, because I believe God will help you.” Three months passed and school was about to begin. A friend whose sister graduated from SVA told me about scholarships. I was so inspired and again asked God to help my dream come true. Believing God was going to make it happen, I mentioned it to my best friends at church and they helped me with all the paperwork. In less than three weeks I was at SVA, and I believe God made that happen in such a short time. I believe God has a purpose for everything He has done in my life and that SVA is part of His plans for me. This school has made a really big impact in my life, not just for being a Christian school, but because SVA has helped me develop a relationship with Him.

Avery Browne ’24

Parents Weekend Testimony I grew up with an Adventist home and education, and did many things in the church. But I did not really understand the deeper meaning of what it meant to be a follower of Christ. That is, until I came here. SVA is providing me with a safe space to grow with God before facing the world. It is helping me understand that God is not a God of punishment and severity. Instead, He’s provided a means of escape from sin for us if we accept His Son as our Lord and Savior. From Friday night vespers to freshman religion with Mr. Leeper, I’ve learned so much about who God truly is. Mr. Leeper showed me that God is not one I have to find favor with or appease. He is a God of love that is unconditional in the sense that no action I could commit could damage the amount of love that He has for me. That is the kind of love I now want to give to others because that is the kind of love SVA has given to me. I can firmly say that God has put a special blessing on this campus and has chosen us to play a big part of spreading His message of glory.

Zirkle Gym Groundbreaking: Higher Than The Highest! Elder Charles A. Tapp, President of the Potomac Conference and chair of the Shenandoah Valley Academy (SVA) Board of Trustees, shares a message at the Zirkle Gymnasium Renovation Groundbreaking Ceremony, May 14, 2021: Reflecting upon the impact Shenandoah Valley Academy has had and continues to have on the lives of students, these words of Ellen White came to mind: “Higher than the highest thought can reach is God’s ideal for His children” (Education, p. 18).

bold promise—as an institution and as a board—that no qualified student will ever be turned away from our campus because of the lack of finances. And God’s people said… [Amen!]! Again, living up to the ideal “higher than the highest.” I’m not sure any other school in the entire Seventh-day Adventist system can make a claim such as that, that no qualified student will ever be turned away because of their financial situation.

Now the evidence of this support is seen again in the Zirkle Gymnasium Renovation Project that will provide a new entrance and lobby with a “Higher than the highest.” If reception and concession area, new it is already the highest, then Students prepare to break ground. restrooms and locker rooms, and what can be “higher than a terrace with a firepit for evening the highest”? 2021 Graduates Reveal: It’s All About Relationships

Congratulations to the 59 graduates of the inspiring Class of 2021 whose year-end survey reflections reveal the incalculable value of SVA relationships in 2021, and every school year. Read their individual graduate profiles on SVA Facebook and @officialsvainstagram. Thank you Alumni and Friends for your prayers and financial support that make meaningful relationships with God, teachers, family, and friends possible for students. Most important lesson(s) learned at SVA: I’ve become much closer to God here, more than in my whole life.

Ms. Wiedemann, Dean Powell, Mrs. Patrick for fighting for me when I didn’t have the strength to fight for myself, for encouraging me to never give up.

This year God has moved mountains in my life. So many blessings that I know God has a plan for each of us. He makes a way, so we can have confidence He will get us through anything.

Mrs. White encourages me to do my best, and gives great advice about future life.

Have grown closer to God; learned to relate better with others after meeting such a diverse group of people.

Mrs. Dean is such an amazing person. She always is there for me. She gives her all to everything she does.

Life is complicated. Cherish the time you have with the people you love.

Pastor Harley’s enthusiasm, kindness and positive attitude makes class, mission trips, and Sabbath activities super fun.

I’ve learned to give everything to God and rely on Him for strength; challenges have made me stronger; I’ve made lifelong friends. Most inspirational faculty/staff: Mr. Lowe because of his dedication to students. He has a smile on his face and a willingness to help; he makes SVA feel like a home.

Mr. Biaggi helped me so much and is a good spiritual example. I admire him and his family.

Dean Powell, thank you for the long hours you put in for each girl. It is a true measure of love. Ms. Wiedemann’s passion and enthusiasm for music radiates through everything she does. Her nonjudgmental attitude helps me be open with her.

Mr. and Mrs. Raymond have helped me so much and care about me. Mrs. Heidi [Smith] inspires me by treating others with kindness, displaying the love of Christ to everyone around her. Mr. Lechler is kind and encouraging. He is more than a teacher. He is a FRIEND. Thank you to: God, my church, my parents. I am here because of your support. Every faculty and staff member who helped me and believes in me. My parents for letting me decide to attend SVA; the amazing faculty and staff for making me feel like I belong so I wanted to stay. My teachers for teaching me for four years. Thank you, deans, for your hard work and patience. Most importantly, thank you to my family for your support, and for allowing me to come to SVA.

Showcase Weekend Testimony Before SVA, I had lost all hope of getting a high school diploma, of going to college, of going after my dreams. Last year, two weeks before school was to start, I had no plans, and in a few days I saw God work so fast. He made something I never even imagined happen and led me to SVA. I have had such a wonderful time here and am so grateful for the teachers and lifelong friends I’ve met who have changed my life. I’ve grown so much closer to God and now have a reignited determination for my future. It’s so exciting! God is so good!! It’s impossible for me to deny the existence of God because I see Him working in my life every day. My whole experience at SVA has probably been the biggest blessing in my life.

Showcase Weekend Testimony SVA wasn’t my first choice, but my sister graduated from this school and she kind of forced me to come here. And when I showed up, I was known as Karina’s little brother… But over some time I actually started to develop a love for this school because I saw what it was doing in my life. When I came here I wasn’t heading down the best path. Not doing anything horrible, but my life wasn’t structured around God. The atmosphere, the people, the vespers, church services, afterglows--everything we do here--it really changed me. I felt like I was developing into more of a God fearing man whose goal is to center his life around Jesus. I’m super thankful my sister forced me to come to this school. After that first year, it has been my decision to come back every single year since because this is the place where God changed me, and this is the place where I have to be.

So I toured SVA on a Wednesday in January and in my head I was like: “There’s no way I am coming here. Are you serious? This is going to be terrible. It’s just a bunch of conservative people who don’t care about having fun at all.” Then Sunday I had to move in. Once my parents left, I just laid in my bed for the rest of that day and was like: “Why? Why am I here? For what? This is awful. I’m going to hate this.” But then I thought, “It’s only for the semester so I should be good.” My first day of class the teachers were pretty cool. But the students, the students were awesome. They were all like: “Man, you okay? How are you doing? Welcome to SVA!” And I was like: “Wow, they are really friendly. This is new!” Most importantly the deans were like: “If you need anything let us know.” And I was like: “Oh wow, they really do care about me here.” And I started getting better at school, socially I made more friends, but most importantly my spirituality improved.

Parents Weekend Testimony My name is Nathan and I’m a resident assistant here at SVA. Let me tell you about my life before SVA. I went to public school my freshman and sophomore years. It was alright. I had a little bit of fun, but when Corona happened it was bad. Online school was terrible. I had no motivation. My grades suffered. I had barely any social life. And the social life I did have, it was with bad people. We would be out partying until three in the morning, you know, stupid stuff. And mentally I was killed. But most importantly, my spirituality, I felt like I had no relationship with God. One day my dad came into my room and was like: “Alright, here’s the deal. Public school is not working. You need to go to SVA.” I was like: “No, no, no I can do this. Let me do this. Let me finish.” And he was like: “Nope, I’m pulling you out. You’ve got to go to SVA. We’ve got to make a change.”

In religion class with Pastor Harley, he said some powerful things, and I was like: “Wow! This is deep.”(Because I was messing around [before] and I regret all of that.) I slowly got back on track, started to get into devotions with God again. SVA has been so good to me, in all areas of my life. I am so appreciative of it. During April homeleave, I remember my dad saying: “Wow, you seem really happy. What’s up?” And I was like: “Dad, here’s the deal. SVA has changed me completely, forever--in all aspects of my life--and I’m forever grateful for them.” SVA has changed me forever. I am forever grateful to the students, staff and faculty who have made my experience awesome, and I hope to spend the rest of my junior and senior years here. Thank you and goodnight.
