Holland Area Europa Park has different areas. Every area has a cultural theme. Between Scandinavia and England, you can find the Netherlands. When you walk into the Netherlands, you see little houses, one big windmill, some dutch flowers and the color ‘’Delft blue.’’ There are also some attractions that are based on the stories and cultural sights of the Netherlands. Like the ‘’Pirates in Batavia’’, where you can experience a pirates’ attack on a peaceful colony of the Netherlands: ‘’Indonesia’’. There are also giant coffee/ tea cups in a delft blue color that whirl you

around, ball pools, an up and down flight with the Red Baron, mini-scooters, a ride with the flying Dutchman, climbing areas and a show called ‘’Off to Neverland’’. Europa Park has also tried to adapt the catering accommodations to the Dutch theme. For example you can eat Cheese and little pancakes.

The Ride Once you have entered the DschungelfloĂ&#x;fahrt you are floating with a boat through many different scenes. Before you go through a typical african town you see an island with a rhino. After this you see different jungle objects with a grande finale that ends in a decorated tunnel before you come back to the tunnel again. The boats itself looks like a raft. The trunks look very realistic. This looks great because you have the feeling that you are on a real raft.

There are four benches, each behind the other, where a maximum of 3 people can sit side by side. A kind of roof is placed above the benches in the form of a jungle tent. Mission: Offer the visitors an exciting journey through Holland and its varieties. Experience Holland as a mailman helper, delivering letters and postcards in different places. Vision: Mail brings people together; help us to deliver emotions through the Netherlands. Values: Helping, communication, relations, delivering, interaction, journey, emotions. Postal companies have for more than 100 years connected all people even in the most extreme circumstances by maintaining a world wide postal network. The crucial assets of this network are trust, interconnectivity and visibility as a worldwide brand. Thousands of letters and cards are delivered everyday in the Netherlands with a 24-hour service. They can deliver post to Denmark, England, France, Italy and even to Afghanistan, Argentina, Colombia, Kazakhstan and Nepal. It doesn’t matter where in the world, the letters in every sizes, small, large, medium or special gets to their destination. The Dutch Post Office used to be an office where you could obtain all postal products and services and some services not related to mail. These Post offices do not exist anymore and have been replaced by smaller Post shops, located in other shops, such as bookstores, tobacco shops and supermarkets. These Post shops are still called Post office and offer all products and services from PostNL and sometimes a few other services as well. Also, talking about transportation, The Netherlands is a highly developed country, in which transport is a key factor of the economy. Correspondingly it has a very dense and modern infrastructure, facilitating transport with road, rail, air and water networks. The Netherlands has one of the densest road networks in the world; much denser than Germany and France. The Dutch also have a well developed railway network, that connects most major towns and cities, as well as a comprehensive dedicated cycling infrastructure, featuring some 35,000 km of track physically segregated from motorised traffic. The port of Rotterdam is the biggest port of Europe, and eighth largest in the world. Two thirds of all inland water freight shipping within the E.U., and 40% of containers, pass through the Netherlands. The Amsterdam seaport is the second in the country, and the fifth largest in Europe. In 2010, 1.65 billion tons of goods traffic was registered, half of which moved by sea and inland shipping, and 40% by road transport. The remainder was mostly by pipelines; rail transport only handles 2% of freight movements through the Netherlands.

Inspirational Locations

Amsterdam is the capital city of and most populous within the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Amsterdam has a population of 813,562 within the city-proper, 1,112,165 in the urban region and 1,575,263 in the greater metropolitan area. Originating as a small fishing village in the late 12th century, Amsterdam became one of the most important ports in the world during the Dutch Golden Age (17th century). The 17th-century canals of Amsterdam and the 19–20th century Defence Line of Amsterdam are on the UNESCO World Heritage List. As the commercial capital of the As the commercial capital of the Netherlands and one of the top financial centres in Europe, Amsterdam is considered an alpha world city by the Globalization and World Citie (GaWC) study group. In 2012, Amsterdam was ranked the second best city in which to live by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) and 12th globally on quality of living by Mercer. Amsterdam's main attractions, including its historic canals, the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum, Hermitage Amsterdam, Anne Frank House, Amsterdam Museum, its red-light district, and its many cannabis coffee shops draw more than 3.66 million international visitors annually.

Volendam is a town in North Holland in the Netherlands, in the municipality of Edam-Volendam. The town has about 22,000 inhabitants. Volendam was the location of the harbor of the nearby Edam. Farmers and local fishermen settled there, forming the new community of Volendam, which literally meant something like 'Filled dam'.In the early part of the 20th century it became something of an artists' retreat, with both Picasso and Renoir spending time here.Volendam is a popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands, well known for its old fishing boats and the traditional clothing still worn by some residents.

Zaanse Schans is a neighbourhood of Zaandam, near Zaandijk in the Netherlands. It has a collection of well-preserved historic windmills and houses; the ca. 35 houses from all over the Zaanstreek were moved to the museum area in the 1970s. The Zaanse Schans is one of the popular tourist attractions of the region and an anchor point of ERIH, the European Route of Industrial Heritage. The neighbourhood attracts approximately 900,000 visitors every year. It has a history that is intimately connected with industry. Thousands of windmills powered saws that were processing Scandinavian wood for the shipbuilding and paper industries.

Story The story starts at the post office, where everyone sees a huge letter explosion. Big post cards, bags full of letters, pens, papers, full desk etc. Jan is out of clues and does not know how to deliver all of the letters. He is really worried because he has to deliver the letters through all over the country and he has to be on time. He develops the ‘’BB’’: ‘’de brievenbezorger’’. which delivers letters fast, but not fast enough. So he asks to visitors to help him. Every visitor has a shooting device in their seat and they have to shoot at mailboxes during the ride. When they hit the target, something in the ride will happen. It can be a movement or a sound. The visitors can see how many points they gained on a rating screen in the boat. When the visitors enter the boat they are going to deliver letters together with the mailman.

They start at the country side, where they see cows, windmills, farmers, grass and sheep. Then they float into a fishermanstown, where they can see people eating fish, a fishmarket, fishing shops, canal bridge that opens and closes, people who are fishing, typical dutch ‘’volendam’’ clothing, ‘’volendamse’’ houses and a lighthouse. The visitors then pass by a floating market because the products are imported to the city. There are boats who sell dutch products like ‘’delft’’ blue, milk, cheese, tulips etc. When they enter the tunnel, they see Amsterdam at night. During the floating, the visitors need to shoot at all mailboxes. In the end the visitors know who helped the mailman the most regarding to the scores. As a thank you gift, you can create your own postcard and send it. Jan will deliver it for you because of your help.

Design

Shooting Device To make the people feel more connected the new ride is going to be Interactive. In every row 8 shooting devices are being placed. People are helping Jan on his mission to deliver al the mail by shooting at the different mail boxes on the ride. If you shoot at a mailbox something (movement or sound) wil happen during the ride. Because you can’t see everything (if more people are shooting you can’t see all the things that happen) you are willing to go on the ride again and again. The shooting device looks very technical and his tube is attacted to a bag of mail so it looks like he is ‘sucking’ the mail out of it.

The station looks like an old Dutch post office. There are bags with mail everywhere and on the television screen you can see Jan Janssen who ask you for help to deliver the mail and shows you his invention, the B.B. (brieven bezorger). The video is very short because mostly the que isn’t long. The visitors will be guided to their boat by the employees who are dressed in typical dutch post office clothing. The boat is open on one side in every row. When the people are sitting, they get set to shoot. The boats are floating in the direction of the first area of holland: ‘’The countryside’’. Within this area there are two scenes.

In the first scene you see three windmills, each with their own specialty. The first one fabricates cheese. When you shoot on the mailbox, the door of this windmill opens. The visitors can now see the inside of the cheese windmill: how the cheese is made, what it eventually looks and they can smell a cheese sense. The second windmill produces bread. The visitors can shoot on another mailbox and then the windows of this windmill will open. Through the windows

they can see a big oven, bakers and lots of dough and bread for example. Again a bread sense will meet the visitors. The third windmill makes the typical wooden shoes of holland: ‘’Klompen’’. When the people shoot on the mailbox this door will also open and the chimney starts to smoke. Inside the visitors can see a manufacturer who is working on some pare of ‘’klompen’’.

In the second scene the boat floats next to a little island, where some cows and sheep are grazing in the meadow. Some cows are animatronics. We want to change the rhino, that is in the ride already and scares people, into a cow. To still have that scare moment that the visitors do not see coming. After the cow that emerges from the bushes, the visitors can see a farmer, who is milking one of the cows. When the visitors shoot at the mailbox on the island, the farmer sprays milk towards the boat with the udder of the cow.

The boat floats in the direction of a new area: ‘’The fishermen’s town’’. To enter this new area a big canal bridge opens to let the boat in, as they also do in Holland. The visitors enter a little town. The old houses from the previous ride are being used and are transformed into typical Fisherman’s houses. They only need different walls, so these are easy to replace. This little town needs to spread the feeling that the visitors are in a fishing port of Holland. They can see a fish market, people that are fishing, fishing shops and people who are eating fish and just hanging around. The old animatronics and dolls can be used, when we make them look like real dutch people.

There are a lot of shooting points (mailboxes) for the visitors in this area. When they hit the target, a lot of things are starting to happen in the town. For example: A fisherman takes his rod inside, A woman starts yelling at the market, A dog steals a fish, A doorbell is ringing etc. In the old ride there is a tree at the end of the row of houses. This tree will be transformed into a lighthouse, whose light swings around.

After this area and a lot of interaction with the visitors because of the shooting, the people can relax a bit. The intense shooting starts again in the tunnel. There are signs/arrows on the side of the ride that point towards the city ‘’Amsterdam’’ (the tunnel).

On the wall, where the title board was before, are now tulips everywhere. The whole wall is filled with tulips in different colors, which get sprayed with water fountains when the visitors hit the shooting target (a mailbox). On the platform on the side of the wall you can see a bike parking place from a bike store. When

The products of the countryside and the fishermen’s town need to be imported to the city. That is why the visitors pass by a floating market before they are entering the tunnel. There are some small boats where they can see many typical dutch products, such as the cheese, milk, ‘’klompen’’, Delfts blue things and so on.

The third area is the tunnel. There is a sign that you are entering ‘’Amsterdam’’ now. Inside of the tunnel it is very loud and crowded. Letters are flying everywhere, people are speaking and screaming, the music is loud, bells are ringing, cars are riding and honking, people on bikes, dogs barking etc. A really busy city, where you can see ‘’Amsterdam’’ at night. The typical dutch houses from the canals of Amsterdam with the little bridges in between but also large apartment buildings will come back here. The visitors will also

see cafe’s/coffee houses, a glimpse of the red light district, museums with paintings and stores. The shooting part is very intense here. The visitors for example need to shoot at a row of mailboxes from the apartment buildings but also on detached mailboxes or on mailboxes on doors. When they hit the target multiple things happen. For example: Windows, doors and curtains will open and close, letters are flying through the air and into the mailboxes, paintings are moving and many lights are flickering.

When the boats come out of the tunnel the character Jan the mailman is sitting on his bike and thanks the visitors for helping out delivering letters. Besides, in every area Jan the mailman will come back. He is delivering letters in every area and the visitors eventually will start looking for him too. They will recognize him everywhere because of his bright jacket and hat. When the boats return to the ‘’Post office’’ (the waiting line), the visitors are guided into a little shop, where they can buy postcards and where they can make their own postcard with the help of a photobooth. In the photobooth the visitors will look like typical dutch people and after the photo is made, they can send it to someone or post it on Social Media with the message: Greets from Holland @Europapark. When this photo is shared, it creates awareness and worth of mouth among people in Europe.
