Having listened to the advice of teachers who are a part of our Teacher Consultation Group we have designed various projects we hope you will love. Located in the heart of Cathays, the Sherman Theatre can provide resources and a service to enhance your theatre experience. See your student’s 5-10 minute script brought to life in the Studio at the Sherman, performed and directed by professional actors and directors. Bring your whole class to experience their creations.
Bring a class to explore the nooks and crannies of our building and gain an insight into what goes on behind the scenes at the Sherman Theatre. This backstage tour also includes a fun and inclusive drama workshop. First visit is free. Each visit thereafter costs £100 per class

Suitable for all Key Stages including nursery
Key Stages 2 – 5
Production related workshops for your class based on our own Sherman shows. The workshops last approximately 1.5 hours and explore the themes, language, characters and artistic elements of our shows. The workshop team will work to the timings that suit the needs of each group and will ensure each participant gains a deeper insight into the production they are about to see.

Your class will work alongside a theatre designer to create their own design for one of Sherman Cymru’s productions. They will be taken through the step by step process our designers go through and will collaborate to eventually create a model box and outline sketches of the design.

Text Analysis: (Improving Standards in Literacy) Key Stages 3 – 5 This course is suitable for those studying English and Drama as well as their teachers. We will share the tool kit we use as theatre practitioners to lift text from its page and give it life. We hope to reignite your own passion towards text you may already know inside out. A great workshop for helping with revision techniques for GCSE, A Level or BTEC students. £200 per class for a morning or afternoon session

Dance as a devising tool: Key Stages 3 – 5 Especially those studying Performing Arts in College Workshops explore how movement can be used as a tool to devise performance work. Students will learn how choreographic methodologies can be used to create both improvised and set movement phrases as a way into devising work. They will explore how character and narrative can be portrayed through the movement they create. Workshops will include; dance technique, choreographic tasks, improvisation, and contact partner work. £150 per class

Here are some of things we can offer you:
Primary Play Day: a tool kit of inspiration exploring interesting ways of using drama and other art forms in your teaching. With long term memory being associated with emotions and sensory experiences, we will initiate an exploration into how the arts can actively engage your pupils into a deeper understanding of the lessons you are delivering.
Secondary Devising: This is a 4 hour workshop for drama/ performing arts / music teachers to build on their devising skills. You will come away with a tool box of inspiration to enable you to explore with your students to your heart’s content. How do you pull together text, movement, music and improvisation tasks into one cohesive performance?

Teacher Exploring practitioners: Consultation Group: These sessions will contextualise the work of those practitioners who have shaped the theatre landscape as we know it. Gain a deep insight and a tool kit to use when directing and exploring text in class. Suitable for English and Drama teachers.
A new initiative for the Sherman Theatre where we visit your school at no extra cost and a time suitable for you. The time is used to listen to each faculty or teacher in order to develop stronger, longer lasting links. This in turn feeds and nurtures our Creative Learning team and the work we can offer you. Your input and vision is vital in driving us forward in a direction which suits your passions.
