When did you start your career? About 5 or 6 year old my mom used to throw parties and I would rap. So I knew that early I wanted to do music. About 20 years ago in High school with business partner and child hood friend KMORGOLD. That’s when it really was got serious. Can you compare your style to anyone in the game right now? Rick Ross meets Pimp C meet Bennie Siegel that’s the combo I can say I sound like but I sound like me. What would you consider to be your recognizable track? The Way featured and produced by KMORGOLD that song put me on the map. That’s the one that got me recognized salute to KMORGOLD that was all him I just rapped. He made the hook song and feel of the track dude a genius. At this point, what’s going on with you? Any deals? Deals are always in the mix but once I figured out you going get what you put into this and the better option for me is independent. It’s going stay that way, until the day I run across the deal that’s worth me risking my independence. What steps did you take in getting to the point you’re at now? Grind, Belief, and Consistency my goal is to out work every-
body and remember that I’m my only obstacle. Who would be your ideal artist to work with? I don’t know that’s something you would have to ask the fans. I would love to work with Jagged Edge, Andre 3000, Jay-z Pusha T or Rick Ross What is your ultimate career goal?

G JLyric, what comes to mind when I hear that name is driven, motivated and hardworking. He has collaborated with a ton of local and national artists, such as C Murder, Curren$y, UNLV, Magnolia Chop, Lucci Lou of YMCMB, Kyynng, Tokyo Vanity, Chopper, and so many more. The New Orleans native has released five mixtapes and several singles, selling over 150,000 copies and garnering over 250,000 views and downloads. Not only has he proven
his talent but he’s also proved he can handle business not just as an artist but as a boss too. OG sat down with us once again to talk about his music, his controversial inputs and his thoughts on the music scene in New Orleans. Lyric is no stranger to Shive and hopefully after this interview he won’t be to you. Shive: You’ve been doing your thing for a while now, what’s been the most challenging part of the business?
14
JLyric: Slumballs and grimey people. I hear people say “the music business is like the streets” that’s true in a way, but in the streets you pretty know who rocks with you and who doesn’t. In the music business you never know, so to be safe you kinda have to treat everyone like a snake and that’s unfortunate. Shive: What’s up with the name change? OG JLyric: Well it’s always been JLyric, but I put the OG in front which stands for Orig-
inal God. We as Asiatic black men and women are the first people on planet earth. It’s a scientific fact! Plus, I think OG JLyric has a cool ring to it. Shive: You’ve collaborated with alot of big name artist? Which was your favorite and why? OG JLyric: Probably Tokyo Vanity. The record we did was called “FaceTime” and it was produced by Cas Major. It was just fun how the collaboration came about, we were joking with each other on twitter and before she came to the
studio Cas made the beat, she called me on FaceTime and we started humming the melody. She came to the studio and we knocked it out in about 30 mins. Shive: Why did you feel the need to address the Kodak and Lauren London situation? OG JLyric: I mean, I think many of us forget that we were once young and wild. I’m not making any excuses for what Kodak said, but what did you expect him to say? He’s a youngster who’s the leader of bunch of other youngsters.
15
He doesn’t have any old heads/ OG around him to help guide him. I understand where T.I. and The Game were coming from, but I think their approach was wrong. This guy Kodak is gonna take that as a threat in the sense of “I can’t let these dudes call themselves trying to check me in front of the world” so he did what he thought was best in the way he responded. I think the situation would’ve been handled better had T.I. and The Game called Kodak personally to let him know he was in error. I’m a fan of all of these guys, I understand the pain across the board. I was
where are doing bounce music. We created most of the slangs that people are using now, it’s crazy. Culture vultures is a real thing! Shive: Musically, where are you? Any albums? OG JLyric: I’m finally back to doing music for the reason I originally started. Love. I’m gearing up to drop new music every month, I still plan on dropping visuals to some of my songs off “Loyalty Over Love”. I genuinely love creating, whether it’s music or clothing. Whatever I do I try to be passionate about it.
just in Crenshaw last week, Nipsey is like a God there. Rip to that brother. Shive: What are your thoughts on the music scene in New Orleans? Why can’t our New Orleans artist catch the big break? OG JLyric: I love the music and
all of the artists here. I think it’s gonna take a real one like myself to get the mainstream light and come back to create an avenue for the city. We’ve never really had that, No disrespect to our homegrown hero’s, but No Limit is in California and Cash Money is in Miami. If you look at the music scene across the board people every-
16
Shive: One of my favorite Jlyric tracks is, “Watch you leave”, what’s yours and why? OG JLyric: Thank you. What’s crazy is I never liked that song lol. The only reason I put it out was because Mr. Serv On from no limit records says it was a hit. I figured he’s a platinum artist so I’ll take his advice. I’m supposed to say “I don’t have a favorite song” but that would be a lie. I really like “dreams”
JLyric: I’ve grown as a person so my music growing was a natural thing. My music was always about my life and things around me, but it’s that way even more so now. My daughter is older so I have her in mind when I’m creating music, I’ve always had her in the studio with me and till this day I get and value her opinion. Shive: As I reflect on your career, I realize you always speak your mind on controversial topics, like the time on “DEAR MR. WEST”, explain this track to our readers.
and “lullabies” off my last album “Loyalty Over Love”. Those two songs were some of my truest thoughts. My new stuff is crazy too though. Speaking of “Loyalty Over Love,” who were some of the producers and artist features you worked with for that project? JLyric: The album Loyalty Over Love is out right now. It’s features Chopper Young City and Y.Luck also known on social media as Nola Street Talk. I kept the features to a minimum; the production was
mainly done by Cas Major. It’s my truest project I’ve ever released. Right now I’m just dropping singles and working on my new album “I Can’t Make This Up” Shive: When can we expect this project to be released? JLryic: I’m not gonna drop the album until 2020, but you can expect new music from me every 30 days. Shive: How would you say your music has evolved since 2014?
17
Jlyric: Man that track almost got me in trouble! Lol. I’m a HUGE fan of Kanye West, but fan or no fan when I feel you’re going against your people for clout or financial gain I’m gonna speak on it. You can’t say “George Bush doesn’t care about black people” but then turn around and be a trump supporter. It makes no sense, but universal music group got the record removed from SoundCloud. Shive: Where can we check out your music? Jlyric: My social media pages are @OGJLyric on Instagram and @JASONLYRIC on Twitter.

SEO GUIDELINES SEARCH ENGINE MARKETING
S
EO guidelines also known as Search Engine Optimization set the rules used by major search engines like GOOGLE, Yahoo, and MSN, etc. to judge whether or not to include a website in their search engine results. Unbelievably, having your website included in Google results is not part of the Bill of Rights under the constitution. There are Search Engine Marketing guidelines that govern which websites are included and those excluded from their results. SEO Guidelines – Thou Shall… Write your pages for people, not for search engines. It seems obvious, doesn’t it? We have all gone to web pages with garbage content written to deceive search engines for top rankings. When discovered (and they will be discovered), these websites are banned. Other SEO guidelines prohibit offering different content to search engines than your visitors. Called
“”cloaking”, its unethical and another trick to avoid for high search engine rankings. Instead, focus on providing useful content your visitors are seeking and update your site frequently with fresh content. SEO guidelines – Thou Shall Not… Here are some important Search Engine Optimization methods to avoid when using SEO methods on your website. These unethical techniques may lead to having your websites removed from the Google index. OUCH!!! That hurts! Once banned, your site will not appear in GOOGLE results or partner sites. SEO guidelines clearly ban link farms that create multiple links to your site to raise your page rank by unethical means. Eventually your site will be caught and penalized for breaking SEO guidelines. In particular, avoid links to web spammers and software that auto submits your pages
19
to search engines. SEO guidelines – Search Engine Optimization Create web pages free of hidden texts and links seen only by the search engines. Instead, use search engine marketing strategies without redirects to other sites. Instead of garbage content, search engine optimization promotes useful reader content. Do you like to read the same thing again… read the same thing again… read the same thing again… neither does the search engine. After all, search engines are people too!

What steps did you take in getting to the point you’re at now? A lot, a lot of trials, fails, as well as falls. However, when it’s for you it’s for you. CREATING BEST ONLINE
BUSINESS
T
here are many different ways to make money on the Internet but this article today will focus on one particular idea, creating the best online business. There are as many ways to make money on the Internet as possible but there are not many tried and true methods that can work for different people. The method that we will focus on today is creating a website in a small but profitable niche. What all businesses come down to is finding and maintaining a strong and solid customer base that can constantly make them money. This is true no matter what type of business this is, Internet or retail. The only way that a company makes money is by attracting a solid base of customers and then building off that. If you are able to build a solid base of highly responsive customers, you will have the opportunity to print your own money.
The first key in creating the best online business is to help you identify a niche that you can work in. this can be a bit tricky but you must make sure that it has a few characteristics. First, you will want the subject to be something that you are interested in hopefully. To create a website that people will want to keep visiting, you will have to have a great deal of information and different ways to keep them interested. You will probably need to be researching these topics quite a bit so a strong interest within the field will help you. Secondly, visit www.findhotniches.com. This website can help you generate ideas on what different areas are underserved. The author of this website, James Jackson, gives you niches plus keywords so that you know what to build your website around. You want your website to be built around those keywords so that Internet searches bring up your website among
21
the first page of search results. By doing this, you can start gaining traffic to your website. By constantly writing articles, you can develop a repeat client base, which you can begin selling ads to. Once you’ve developed the website, you need some sort of product to sell. If you decide and look into developing a newsletter then you can promote a product at the end of the newsletter, which could bring you in a great deal of money. This is where you can make some good money. If you want to succeed, try this idea but keep testing as it takes great time and effort to become a strong and profitable website.
CHAYNLER JOIE
ple always, ALWAYS tell me that I remind them of Erykah, Jill, and Sade (and I ain’t mad at that AT ALL!) I’m SO eager for my album release and music video drops this Summer though -- because supporters will be able to hear and see how my sound/artistry is really in its own category. NOw Of course, there are influences that have helped establish my artistry, but what you get from Chaynler Joie, you won’t get anywhere else -- that’s a guarantee ;)

When did you start your career? I’ve been singing since before I could even say a full sentence; started song-writing in middle school; but professionally my singer-songwriter career didn’t start until I was about 20/21 once I graduated from the Musicians Institute in Hollywood, CA. Since then I’ve been on my independent artist sh** and have performed at damn near every significant venue in Los Angeles. I’ve also been blessed to sing for major artists such as Zayn Malik on the Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and the IHeart Radio Awards; Dawn Richard on NPR’s Tiny Desk ; and more recently for Kanye West at his ‘Sunday Services’.

Can you compare your style to anyone in the game right now? mmmm NAH (lol). But if I absolutely had to, I’d say my artistic + vocal style is in the realms of Solange, Little Dragon, Moonchild, H.E.R., Ravyn Lanae or Ari Lennox. But peo-
22
What would you consider to be your recognizable track? My most popular track at the moment is ‘These Are The Days’, written + produced by ME :) but I have a feeling that’ll shift once the album drops cause I got hella BANGERZ on that mug. -- sidenote: I’m gonna be filming a visual for the ‘these are the days’ really soon so yall be on the lookout! At this point, what’s going on with you? any deals? SO MUCH IS HAPPENING! But it’s such a process being my own manager, booking agent, producer, writer, creative director, graphic and web designer -- my own EVERYTHING. No deals … yet. I’m wrapping up the finishing touches on my upcoming debut album, “the time of fear is over.” -- and also getting show dates together for my ‘Home For The Summer’ tour with show dates in New Orleans, Shreveport, Houston, Dallas, Atlanta, Austin. More details will be posted on the ‘event’ page of my website -chaynlerjoieflow.com What steps did you take in getting to the point your at now?
LIFE. EXPERIENCE. GROWTH. Those are the steps. LOL. Every person’s journey and story is unique and different. So I’m just figuring it out as I go to keep it all the way real. My intentions are clear, strong, and love-based -- so As I’m taking risks and just goin’ with the flow, I end up making a pretty good blueprint and makin’ some cool sh** happen :)
Who would be your ideal artist to work with? Hmmm, man I can’t choose one so I’mma just drop a few names that come to mind -- Kendrick Lamar, J. Cole, Charlie Wilson (even though I already worked with him at a Kanye gig -- can’t get enough of Uncle Charlie), Marsha Ambrosius, Eric Benet, Kimbra, Taylor McFerrin, Terrace Martin
But I will say, if I had to sum up what my ‘steps’ were: learning and soaking up as much knowledge and game as possible, and not getting lost in the sauce. TAKE RISKS, BUT BE SMART ABOUT THE SH**. MISTAKES WILL BE MADE BUT TRIAL AND ERROR IS ONE OF THE BEST TEACHERS. I learned the book knowledge (music theory, production, business) when I attended the Musicians Institute; but I also learned the ‘street’ knowledge by just goin’ out there and gettin’ it! I’ve been around a lot of different energies AND DYMANICS IN THIS INDUSTRY (FROM WORKING AROUND INDEPEDENT AND RAW TO WORKING AROUND A-LISTERS WITH BIG MACHINES); so I’ve been able to enhance my ability to adapt and observe; and only absorbing what’s gonna evolve me and my artistry. I’ve put a lot of WORK in. And just to note, my definition of ‘work’ is quite multifaceted (spiritual work, mental work, physical work, artistry work, ALLADAT) But real talk, A vital ass step to it all --I Trust the process.
What is your ultimate career goal? To inspire, innovate, promote authenticity, provoke thought and induce feel-good vibes. I’d like to eventually become a world-renowned singer-song-
23
writer and overall CREATRESS. On the business tip, I’m manifesting owning some land & property, specifically to build a multipurpose creative space. And this is indeed the short version of my ‘career goals’. I have notebooks filled with career goals and plans. SIDENOTE: WRITE YOUR IDEAS, GOALS, VISIONS DOWN! Words are like spells that’s why they call it SPELLing ;) As Badu so eloquently tweeted: ‘Write it down on real paper with a real pencil. And watch sh** get real” For more info on me or my music visit: www.chaynlerjoieflow.com
