Warwick Middle School Performs “Gone
The Learning Station Theatre Department will be performing the hilarious comedic play “Gone With the Gust,” by Tim Kelly, on Friday, May 9 at 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, May 10 at 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. at Warwick Middle School.
Learning Station homeschool co-op has a large theatre department, which pulls students from all over Lancaster County, with many from the Ephrata, Lititz, New Holland and Adamstown areas.
Here is a synopsis of the play: The whole country is talking about Lucy Belle Bankhead’s sensational new novel, “Gone with the Gust.” The heroine is a spunky eighteen-year-old Jezebel O’Toole, who makes Scarlett O’Hara seem like soggy grits. Everyone flocks to the biggest movie studio, Lone Pine Films in Hollywood. “Gone with the Gust” is its next picture, and Peggy Tempest, the temperamental, flaky and most powerful star in town, is slated to play

When the weather is bitter cold
And the thermometer stands close to two. When the wind whistles aloud and savagely, It is time to go hunting.
Come, we’ll hunt Elbedritsches!
They like this kind of weather
And one doesn’t have to shoot them at all. Just hold the sack and chase them in!
Elbedritsches are very Appetizing for a feast.
With this raw and stormy weather They are fattened up just right!
Have you ever tasted Elbedritsches
In pot pie or in sausage?
This is excellent eating Any way you prepare them.
So come out now, my good comrade, And we’ll go right away Out tonight for Elbedritsches, But first find a couple of good bags.
And I want to warn you right now, It takes a very good man
To find these shy things.
Es naegscht Mol weiss ich dir vielleicht Wu mer die Gedier findt, Fer des nemmt Geduld sie finne. Mer muss schlau sei un aa gschwindt.
Let me show you that I can!
I’ll give you the easy work, You only need to stand at the corner
News honoring the late C. Richard Beam.
Of this shed here on the hill And hold one of the bags!
Yes, it is a bit cold outside, But this will all be worth it. When you have your bag filled With fine Elbedritsches.
Just wait here and be patient, Hold the bag close to the ground. I will soon chase your bag full Of Elbedritsches fat and healthy.
Just stay here, silent and quiet, Elbedritsches are so shy. Hold the bag and don’t be fidgety And I’ll chase them right in.
You understand well that my part Takes a man with brain power. I’ll be doing all the work, Because I’m such a smart man.
The next time I’ll show you perhaps Where we can find these creatures, For it takes patience to find them. One must be sly and quick.
Don’t think about the weather, You say it’s bitterly cold, so what? When the Elbedritsches begin coming to you, Then there’ll be fun!
So I’ll go now to find them And you’ll stay here at the corner. And when they come running, Be careful that none get away! ***
ELBEDRITSCHE-ZEIT reached us in mid-winter, the proper time to go hunting for Elbedritsche, but the hopper was already full until this week, hence the delay. But poems on Elbedritsche - for which there is suitable English wordare so rare, we did not want to hold the poem for next winter.
Gladys Martin informs us that she heard no Elbedritsche stories at home, nonetheless she knew about these mythical creatures. We too have long known of the tricks played upon the unsuspecting in mid-winter in the name of Elbedritsche yaage, but this may be very well the very first Dutch poem on the subject.
Again our deitscher Schtrohhut, now just about thawed out, is lifted in salute to our bard from Effredaa. Tune in next week for Gladys’ poem, WEDDERBROFEEDE, and a discussion of the “sundog,” an unusual term indeed.

Feeling a little sheepish lately?
Author: Wenger
Scripture: Isaiah 53:6“All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned everyone to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
The nation Israel went astray and turned to their own way. The book of Judges illustrates their disobedience. When the nation entered the land they were told to make no covenant with the people of the land but to completely drive them out. Exodus 23:32 says, “You shall not
make a covenant with them or their gods.” But wait, there’s more. “Take heed to yourself, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a snare in the midst of you. But you shall tear down their alters and smash their pillars. You shall not bow down to them or serve them, for I am the Lord your God.” Pretty plain and clear, right? Well, in Judges 1:28 we have their response to the command“And it came to pass, when Israel was strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute (slave labor), and did not utterly drive them out.”
The Israelites’ failure to obey God’s command to completely purge the land of the Canaanites, as outlined in Deuteronomy 20, had dire consequences.
The mingling of the Israelites with the Canaanites led to the adoption of their corrupt practices,
resulting in a repeated cycle of sin, apostasy and oppression.
As a result of this disobedience, Israel fell into idolatry. Judges 2:11-12“And the children of Israel did evil in the sight of the Lord, and served the Baals (idols, false gods). And they forsook the Lord God of their fathers, who brought them out of the land of Egypt, and followed other gods, of the gods of the people that were round about them, and bowed themselves unto them, and provoked the Lord to anger.” The book of Judges gives some insight into why this period was so full of defeat. “In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in his own eyes” (Judges 17:6). It wasn’t for lack of a king either, because when Israel had kings, most of them were horribly wicked as well, which resulted in
the same practices. The nation was ultimately judged and removed from the land.
We already considered the strongest man to ever live, Samson, and how having sought his own way, he suffered humiliation, defeat, and finally death Now, let’s see how the wisest man to ever live went astray and turned to his own way. Solomon had it all, and in the beginning, he pleased God, but as time went on, he departed from truth, disobeyed the commands and worshiped false gods As a young king, he pleased God when he asked for wisdom and not fame, fortune and a long life. God was so pleased he gave him not only wisdom, but fame, wealth and long life as well.
Let’s set the stage - 1 Kings 3:5, “At Gibeon the Lord appeared to Solomon during the night in a dream, and God said, ‘Ask for whatever
you want me to give you.’” 1 Kings 3:7b says, “But I am only a little child and do not know how to carry out my duties.” 3:9 goes on, “So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong. For who is able to govern this great people of yours?” In 1 Kings 3:10-12a God answers; “The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. So God said to him, ‘Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, I will do what you have asked.’” God granted discernment and went on to give him the wealth and honor that he did not ask for.
The Queen of Sheba traveled to hear Solomon’s wisdom and see his powerful, magnificent kingdom. He was the envy of the entire world, and Israel was
the most powerful nation on earth. God gave him peace from his enemies. As time went on though, Solomon, like Samson, married foreign women, which was strictly forbidden. Why was this forbidden? The Bible tells us why. 1 Kings 11:4“As Solomon grew old, his wives turned his heart after other gods. And his heart was not fully devoted to the Lord his God, as the heart of David his father had been.” It goes on to say that Solomon did evil in the sight of the Lord. He built high places on which they would burn incense and offer sacrifices in worship of false gods. It was because of Solomon’s disobedience that the kingdom was split into two; the Northern kingdom of Israel and the southern kingdom of Judah. Don’t diminish your kingdom by going astray.
We will continue our study next week.
Math Wizards Take Trip Of Lifetime
A group of students from Cocalico High School (CHS) recently embarked on a trip of a lifetime for mathematics wizards! They participated in the prestigious international Harvard MIT Math Tournament (HMMT) in Boston, Massachusetts.
CHS senior, Craig Hinkley, who was determined to bring additional enrichment activities to his peers, found five classmates willing to form a team. He then recruited Mr. Nicholas Heil, CHS Math Teacher, to complete the application process. Due to the overwhelming number of applicants each year, a lottery system is used to determine the participants. Early in October, the high school team learned they had been selected, and the hard work of preparing for the competition began. Team members include seniors - Hinkley, Joseph McGowan, and Brady Shipton; junior - Spencer Steed; and sophomoresBlake Fichthorn and Emma Gensemer.
The students were chaperoned by Mr. Heil and Ms. Michelle Shirey, Career Counseling and Enrichment Coordinator. HMMT offered financial assistance for the accommodations, and
the team traveled in a school district van. According to Ms. Shirey, “We owe a huge thank you to Mr. Scott Bennetch, CHS Principal, and Dr. Ella Musser, Superintendent, for approving the application process and to the School Board for approving overnight travel. In addition, we appreciate Cocalico’s transportation department for securing the necessary transportation to
the event.” She continued by sharing her gratitude to Mr. Heil for his work on preparing the team for the competition and to Craig Hinkley for seeking out and making this opportunity a reality. The team is shown including, from left to right, (front) Craig Hinkley, Emma Gensemer, Brady Shipton; (back) Spencer Steed, Blake Fichthorn and Joseph McGowan.

Lititz Elementary School Recently Held Fine Arts Day
All entries must be received in our office by 12:00 noon on Friday, April 25.
Students at Lititz Elementary School recently celebrated a variety of creative ways to express themselves during the school wide Fine Arts Day. A musical Drumming Circle, led by Ed Haggard, captivated the students with musical rhythm and beats. An art activity allowed students to create their own painted chandelier. Finally, international keynote speaker artist Richard Hight and his daughter Avery created chalk art right in front of students in a matter of a few minutes. They are standing with his finished lion portrait that dazzled the students.
LAMS Archers Excel In State Competition Reamstown Fire Company Receives Donation
Lititz Area Mennonite School (LAMS) exists to steward the “whole child” through providing biblical education and personalized learning opportunities for students in Pre-K through 12th grade. LAMS offers a variety of athletics and extra circulars to help students blossom into who God created them to be, with Archery being one of them. LAMS has participated in the National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) for eight years.
The 2025 Pennsylvania State NASP Bullseye and NASP/IBO 3D competitions were held at Spooky Nook recently. Two archers from the LAMS Archery team took home awards at the event. Middle School archer
Danika Martin (pictured on the left), who is in her second year on the team, placed 5th in the NASP/IBO 3D Tournament with a score of 268/300. Middle School archer Kaylee Zimmerman (pictured on the right) took first place in the NASP/IBO 3D Tournament for the second year in a row with a score of 281/300. Kaylee also finished in third place for the NASP Bullseye Tournament.
Both archers look forward to heading to Louisville, Kentucky for the NASP Eastern Nationals Tournament in May along with LAMS Middle School 3D teammates Ellie Goss, Cole Martin, Grant Sauder, and
Isabel Zook. The Eastern Nationals event hosts around 15,000 archers for the Bullseye event and 7,000 archers for the 3D event.
Four years ago, Kaylee Zimmerman received the first award for the LAMS archery team at the 2022 PA State Tournament competition when she placed fourth in the Girls Elementary Division for Bullseye. She then went on to compete in the National Tournament in Louisville, Kentucky. She has returned to the National Event each year since then along with teammate Andre Zook in 2023 and Gavin Shenk in 2024.
A recent fundraiser held at the Reamstown Athletic Association, 76 North Reamstown Road, in East Cocalico Township, helped to raise funds donated to the Reamstown Fire Company No. 1 ambulance, which were utilized to offset the cost associated with the recent purchase of the LUCAS 3 mechanical CPR device.
On Sunday, March 23 an all you can eat buffet breakfast, along with 50/50 drawings and raffle prize tickets, raised $4,758 towards the total cost of the device. The proceeds of two separate 50/50 drawings
conducted during band events during the winter were also included with the donation check. Earlier in the year, Reamstown AA provided a separate donation of $3,000. In total to date, $7,758 was donated on their behalf to the fire company.
The LUCAS 3 mechanical CPR device is a vital tool that aides first responders in helping to care for individuals who suffer a cardiac arrest. LUCAS (Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System) essentially takes over the role of providing chest compressions from a human
responder, freeing that person up to perform additional patient care tasks that are required during such an event. LUCAS, which operates via battery power, provides consistent, uninterrupted, chest compressions at a fixed rate, and eliminates the physical strain and provider fatigue that occur when performed by a human provider.
According to recent data from the American Heart Association, in excess of 350,000 persons experience an out of hospital cardiac arrest event every year. Less

than 10% of these individuals survive to walk out of the hospital. However, survival rates have been increasing, due in part to the early activation of the 911 system, early CPR, defibrillation, as well as advanced life support care. The LUCAS device is a vital part of this improved survival rate.

The RAA is very community minded, sponsoring various sports teams, pool and dart leagues, hosting bands and entertainment at their facility, as well as sponsoring academic scholarships for those furthering their education. “We are extremely grateful for the support of the Reamstown AA. WEEK 4
Kristin Martin 8th Grade
Let me introduce you to Kristin Hope Martin. Kristin is a 13 year old girl who goes to Gehmans Mennonite School and attends Green Terrace Mennonite Church. Her parents are Ben and Jo Martin and her siblings are Renee (16), Eddie (9), and Ava (7).
Kristin is a great friend and I don’t know what I would do without a friend like her. If I had to choose three words to describe her, I would choose loyal, talkative, and positive.
Martin Gehmans Mennonite
I chose the world loyal because Kristin keeps her promises and is always there for her friends. She’s always there for me and if you were her friend, she would be there for you, too. I chose talkative because she loves to talk to her friends and I chose positive because she is almost always positive and never negative. She always seems to find the good in most things.
Kristin admires her sister Renee because she always seems to be there for Kristin when she’s having a bad day. She’s also a great friend and sister to Kristin.
Kristin loves school because of her teachers and P.E. class. Her favorite sport is volleyball.
She plans on going to Terre Hill High School and getting a job after she graduates middle school.

Kristin’s favorite thing to do are sketching, reading, being outside, and playing with her siblings. She said that if she could change something in the world, she would drop taxes.
Her favorite restaurant is Five Guys and her favorite class is science because of the way her teacher, Miss Horning, teaches it. Kristin told me that her greatest accomplishment was getting through sleep apnea. If you need a good friend, you should get a friend like Kristin.

Genevieve Adamow
Senior
Genevieve Adamow is a dedicated and ambitious senior at Garden Spot High School, known for her drive, leadership, and deep connection to her community.
A true go-getter, she is actively involved in numerous extracurricular activities that showcase her passion for academics, leadership, music, and athletics.
Adamow
Adamow serves as the president of the student council, the vice president of the National Honor Society, and the captain of the softball team. She participates in orchestra, chorus, vocal ensemble, Tri-M Music Honor Society, and Garden Spot Performing Arts.
Agriculture plays a significant role in Adamow’s life. Having grown up on a 50-acre Christmas tree farm in Bucks County, Adamow has always aspired to have that kind of life for her future family. She recently moved to New Holland and hopes to contribute to our farm-rich community.
Outside of school, Adamow is also the New Holland Fair Queen, and jokingly refers to herself as “the queen of the town.” She recently participated in a pageant at the Hershey Convention Center, something she could have never imagined.
Adamow explains her first pageant: “All the fair queens from the different counties and towns came. And we competed for the state title. and that was such a cool experience.” Adamow pushed her nerves to the side and competed for the state title, bettering herself for the future she’s planning.

After graduating from Garden Spot High School, Adamow plans to further her education at Penn State Berks, where she will major in agricultural business. She is eager to expand her knowledge of the industry and make a lasting impact in the field. With her strong work ethic, leadership skills, and deep connection to agriculture, Adamow is well on her way to achieving her goals and making a meaningful differ
