September Artist Of The Month
The United Zion Retirement Community (UZRC) Gallery is pleased to present the works of Jan Wynkoop. Jan’s love for art began as a junior high student in an art class but through the years, other activities pushed art aside. Eventually, teaching at Warwick High School created the need for bulletin boards and an art challenge. Encouragement from a fellow teacher awakened her previous art enjoyment, thus she began developing her talents. Although she has had no formal training, Jan has taken watercolor lessons locally from Sandra Roland, Andy Smith and, currently, Fran Spangle. Attending various painting workshops has broadened her scope and techniques. As a member of the Village Art Association, she enjoys meeting and sharing with other local artists. Jan enjoys the challenge of watercolor art. “I enjoy the watercolor medium as it provides varied opportunities for style.” Over the past 30 years, many walls have been brightened with paintings that Jan has created. Jan, who lives in Lititz, taught at Warwick High School for 34 years. She and her husband, Jim, raised one daughter, who now lives in Sydney, Australia. Jim and Jan have traveled through Europe, the Baltic, Australia, New Zealand and across the United States. They enjoy seeing the sites and experiencing the cultures of the world as they snap pictures which inspire more paintings. The community is encouraged to view Wynkoop’s numerous works on display for the month of
September, daily from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. United Zion Retirement Community is located at 722

Lions Update Eyeglass Collection Box
Shopping News Photo by Donald Reese
For over 25 years the Ephrata Lions Club has collected over 10,000 used eyeglasses, as well as lenses and hearing aids to be reused by individuals throughout the world. Collection boxes have been placed throughout the community at different businesses with the collection box at Martin’s Market being the most productive. That collection box was a donated U.S. mailbox, which was repainted in Lions’ colors. Over the years the box has shown its wear and was in need of repainting. A local business donated a new sign, and Lions Bill Peters, Jack Forney and Bob Eberly repainted the collection box. The new Lions emblems were placed on the box to make it more pleasant and useful for years to come. Thanks to the Ephrata community for making this a very successful service project of the Ephrata Lions Club. Shown in the photo are (left to right): Lions Jack Forney, Bill Peters and Bob Eberly.
