When I started studying in 2009, I chose Architecture, Building & Planning at the TU/e due to the mix it offered between technical skills and design. As the years passed, my interests grew towards the complexities that the space around us has to offer, and especially how it affects us on a social level. To learn more about the complexity of different urban scales all over the world, and what my role as an urbanist could be, I decided to do my Urbanism masters at TU Delft. TU Delft has offered me the opportunities to do various projects on different scales including a project in Buenos Aires, Argentina as well as an Erasmus exchange semester in Valencia, Spain.

I look forward to starting my graduation year in September 2015, in which I would like to dive more into these complexities on a large scale including issues that matter for society, like social inequality and spatial injustice.

BALANCED DEVELOPMENT IN METROPOLITAN BUENOS AIRES investment Buenos Aires, Argentina / April 2014 media
This project is part of the elective studio Globalisation Free Choice. The studio focuses on the complex relationship between regional and international urban systems, the development of public space and the evolution of cities undergoing major transformations.

In collaboration with FADU, the faculty of Architecture in Buenos Aires, it was my mission with 11 other students to develop an urban strategy on the Rio Reconquista river basin, which lies north of the city center. This river deals with a lot of issues like flooding and uncontrolled rapid urban sprawl. The project encouraged me to create design-led solutions based on multidisciplinary research and the development of a strong theoretical planning framework.

STAYING IN THE ECONOMIC GAME SUSTAINING & VITALISING THE ECONOMY OF ZWOLLE REGION FOR 2050 Zwolle region, the Netherlands / Feb 2014 The core of this project is about creating a regional design for an emerging urban region. Designing on a regional scale has given me more knowledge about how to deal with the large time spans and the involvement of different people and parties.

As urbanists, it is our task to make a regional design as a method of exploring the future, and offer a select number of appropriate futures on which society can debate on. This project was a teamwork of 4 students where we used different economic scenario’s to steer different parts of the Zwolle region into different directions to make use of their full economic potential.

RECLAIMING THE HOFBOGEN GIVING THE HOFBOGEN BACK TO THE NEIGHBOURHOOD Rotterdam, the Netherlands / Nov 2013
Primary functional cityscale elevationpoint
This project focusses especially on sociospatial transformation of the city and the scale where urban design meets the human scale. By strategically intervening in the urban fabric, the environment of people is improved in a sustainable and feasible way.

Important road for visitors of the Hofbogen New path for the neighbourhood
Create full walking circle for the park Let school use hofbogen as part of the plaground
The Hofbogen in Rotterdam is an elevated trainrail that has been out of use and announced a monument in 2009. Rotterdam wants to create a skypark similar to the High Line in New York. My design question was how to use the potential space and quality of the Hofbogen to upgrade the general quality of public space surrounding it. I designed a 4 layered strategy for the entire Hofbogen, then zoomed in on a particular area to demonstrate the flexibility of the design.

ENTERING GOUDA RECONNECTING THE CITY Gouda, the Netherlands / Sep 2013 This project focuses on the analysis and design of urban form of a city as a whole. Urban transformations triggered by globalization forces are influencing environmental quality and livability of cities, and challenging the position of planning and design in shaping a new urban realm. Dealing with the growing complexity of a city still requires good understanding of the basic structure and key urban elements, and the ways they work. Gouda is an ancient Dutch harbour city, with its core along the river since it was the city’s main entrance. The city grew concentrically from this old core and even though the city is now entered by train and by car, the orientation of the city remains towards the water. In this project, I discovered the hidden potential of an indstrial area which is slowly losing its function, located at the intersection of the traintracks and the main road for entering the city from the highway.

KOP VAN ‘T ZAND VIA DE TALENT FACTORY Den Bosch, the Netherlands / Feb 2013
Public space: the Talent Factory
This project was my final Bachelor project at TU/e. It is a multidisciplinary project where we worked in a team of 7 people, each with their own role and interests. I was responsible for the urban design and management. Kop van ‘t Zand is an area along the water in ‘s Hertogenbosch, not far from the train station and the old city centre. In the middle of this area there is an old factory with monumental value called the Talent Factory, dividing the area in two parts. The urban assignment for this area was how to deal with a monumental building in a design and how to use the quality of the water to activate the space. Instead of seeing the Talent Factory as a building which divides the urban space, I transformed it into the central public space of the area. It became the main entrance for all the surrounding functions, as well as an important pedestrian street to connect the two sides of the city.
