Life Is But A Dream… REMEMBERING SHANTIQUE

It is said that life cannot be measured by how long we live but by how much we give. If this is true, Serenity Shantique Noelle Renae Brown, lived a fuller life than many adults. From her entrance into the world on Friday, January 13, 2012, this little angel began to affect the lives of her family and friends. Somehow, her parents, Lythera Roach and Perry Brown knew that she had come to change their lives forever, bringing the love and peace that we all desire in our lives, they aptly named her “Serenity.”

Serenity is from the Latin word ‘serenus,’ meaning “calm or peaceful, the absence of mental stress or anxiety. peace of mind, peacefulness, quietness, quietude, tranquility. If you ever met her, you know that the only thing that worried her was the wellbeing and peace of others. The love and care that existed in this child remains a mystery.

A mere 7 months after her arrival in the world, in August of 2012 she was diagnosed with Tetralogy of Fallot, which is a birth defect that affects normal blood flow through the heart. It happens when a baby’s heart does not form correctly as the baby grows and develops in the mother’s womb during pregnancy. This diagnosis was shattering and heartbreaking news for everyone, but it seems as if it was Serenity’s confirmation that she didn’t have a long time to do the work she was sent here to do.

She attended Palmdale Primary where she graduated with her Preschool Diploma and completed up to grade 3 and then transferred to Ridgeland Primary where she graduated on June 15th, 2023, with her Primary School Diploma. She was so excited and looking forward to Junior High School.

Serenity loved making Tik Toks and creating memories with her family and friends. She ensured that everyone knew she loved them. She was a budding entrepreneur. With a jumpstart by her ‘sister baby’ with materials, she handmade bracelets to the customer’s likings, for sale.

Shantique, as some called her, was an “ole soul” in the way her motherly instincts kicked in at a young age when dealing with her brother Tristan, nephew Mason or her cousin Keanna who she cared for. They looked up to her. She thoroughly enjoyed her every other weekend with her Aunty Ellie and “favorite cousin” A’khari. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed sleeping over when awarded the opportunity.

As Serenity grew older, her diagnosis came with lots of other minor diagnosis, yet still she stood strong on her faith in God. She had a positive outlook on life and never conceded defeat to her sickness. She always had a smile and always said “ I’m alright, God have me” She understood that her fate was determined by God and not man. She also understood that one day, she would leave this earth. Serenity loved her God and knew that she was safe with Him. Throughout her sickness, she would often say “I just want to be normal.” To be able to run and play with the other children is all she ever wanted. On July 19th, 2023, while in her mother’s arms, Serenity slipped from time into eternity. God answered her prayers and made her normal. Now she’s running and playing with the angels in her new body.

After eleven years of being on the front-line fighting, when Doctors weren’t sure she’d make it past her first birthday. After eleven years of bringing happiness to everyone and teaching them the true meaning of love and life through her actions. After eleven wonderful years of being brave, our Princess was granted her reward.

She fought a good fight, she finished her course, she kept the Faith. Fly high with the Angels Serenity Shantique Noelle Renae Brown, you deserve to be free!

Like a comet blazing ‘cross the evening sky, Gone too soon

Like a rainbow fading in the twinkling of an eye, Gone too soon Shiny and sparkly and splendidly bright, here one day, gone one night Like the loss of sunlight on a cloudy afternoon, Gone too soon.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN | Suffer the children to come unto me.

When mothers of Salem their children brought to Jesus, The stern disciples drove them back and made them depart; But Jesus saw them ere they fled, And sweetly smiled and kindly said, “Suffer little children to come unto Me.”

For I will receive them, and fold them in my bosom, I’ll be a Shepherd to those lambs, oh, drive them not away! For if their hearts to Me they give, They shall with Me in glory live: “Suffer little children to come unto Me.”

And still the kind Savior bids little children welcome, For Jesus’ loving tender heart to children is the same: Though here His voice is no more heard, From heav’n itself He speaks this word, “Suffer little children to come unto Me.”

CONGRAGATIONAL HYMN | Jesus loves the little children.

(Chorus)

Jesus loves the little children, All the children of the world. Red and yellow, black and white, All are precious in His sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world.

Jesus calls the children dear, “Come to Me and never fear, For I love the little children of the world; I will take you by the hand, Lead you to the better land, For I love the little children of the world.”

Jesus is the Shepherd true, And He’ll always stand by you, For He loves the little children of the world. He’s a Savior great and strong, And He’ll shield you from the wrong, For He loves the little children of the world.

I am coming, Lord to Thee, And Your soldier I will be, For You love the little children of the world. And Your cross I’ll always bear, And for You I’ll do and dare, For You love the little children of the road.

CONGREGATIONAL HYMN | Through it all

I’ve had many tears and sorrow

I’ve had questions for tomorrow

There’ve been times I didn’t know right from wrong

But in every situation

God gave me blessed consolation

That my trials come to only make me strong

(Chorus)

Through it all, Through it all

Oh, I’ve learned to trust in Jesus

I’ve learned to trust in God

Through it all, Oh, through it all

I’ve learned to depend upon His words.

I’ve been a lot of places

And I’ve seen a lot of faces But there were times when I felt so all alone

But in my lonely hours

Yet those precious lonely hours

Jesus let me know that I was His own.

So, I thank God for the mountains

And I thank Him for the valleys

And I thank Him for the storms He’s brought me through For if I’d never had a problem

I’d never know that God could solve them

I’d never know what faith in His word could do

PRAYER FOR THE FAMILY | Pastor Roselyn Alexis

RECESSIONAL HYMN | Yes, Jesus loves me

Jesus loves me! This I know. For the Bible tells me so: Little ones to Him belong: They are weak, but He is strong.

(Chorus)

Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me!

Yes, Jesus loves me! The Bible tells me so.

Jesus loves me still today, Walking with me on my way, Wanting as a friend to give Light and love to all who live.

Jesus loves me! This I know. As He loved so long ago, Taking children on His knee, Saying, “Let them come to Me.”

Jesus loves me! He who died Heaven’s gate to open wide, He will wash away my sin, Let His little child come in.

Graveside Hymns:

ALL THING BRIGHT AND BEAUTIFUL

All things bright and beautiful

All creatures great and small

All things wise and wonderful

T’was God that made them all.

Each little flower that opens, Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colors, And made their tiny wings,

The purple headed mountains

The rivers running by The sunset and the morning

That brightens up the sky,

The cold wind in the winter

He gave us eyes to see them,

Who has made all things well.

IT IS FINISHED (Just the chorus)

EULOGY | Prophet Don

We Remember…

The first day I met you, you were a bundle of joy. Smile so bright, voice so relaxing, singing one of your favorite songs. I sang along and said, “What do you know about this?”, smiling, not knowing that you were a Tic Toc superstar. We connected instantly because of our love for music. I am going to miss hearing you sing songs while heading to school in the mornings. Me driving saying to myself, how do she remember all these songs, it hurts. But I understand when I read Ecclesiastes 12:7 “Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return to God who gave it.” Now you are resting as in the meaning of your name SERENITY, Peaceful, and Peacefully. Sleep in Peace.

Our Hearts are broken forever.

People tell us that in time pieces will eventually come back together. If this is true, it’s hard to believe now. There will always be a space where your name will be placed. My tears have been falling now for so long. Not one day I haven’t thought about your beautiful face. You had so much left to do. But God needed someone in Heaven who is as special as you. Nothing is the same now and I doubt it will ever be. You have been released from all your pain and suffering. You have been set free. Your story has touched so many people of all ages. I miss your voice, your laughter and hearing you sing. Fashion loved you! Now you have new accessories, a pair of angel wings. The world has lost a wonderful girl and truly an amazing Sister. Serenity, WE MISS YOU! God broke my heart to prove he only takes the best.

Serenity my baby! I am so happy for the 11 years God has loan you to me. Babygirl, I’ll never forget our smiles and happy times we shared when you came to spend time. Aunty baby, I love you so much and miss you so much that words can’t be found to say. You will always be a part of me and in my heart. Gone to soon but God knows what was best. Love Always!

Words to my Angel

Of the many blessings in my life, having you as my niece was one of the greatest. The special memories I have of you will always bring a smile to my face, Tiktoks and snapchats, pictures to last a lifetime. The love you shared with everyone with your infectious laugh and smile makes me wish I could bring you back if only for a little while.

I didn’t choose to be your aunt. You were a gift to me from God, and the fact that you’re no longer here will always cause pain, but you’ll forever be in my heart. Our family is broken, and nothing is the same, as time goes on with you watching over us , I trust we’ll heal again.

Your light was too bright, and your heart was too pure for this cold and mean world. Sleep in peace Auntie baby, take your rest my love until we meet again.

Your life was a blessing, your memory will remain in our hearts. We were deeply saddened and heartbroken over losing you, but we are grateful for the time that you spent with us. Serenity, you may have left us too soon, but your loving presence remains forever in our hearts and souls. Until we meet again, sleep on our angel. We love you always.

RIP Serenity!

Though your smile is gone forever, and your hand we cannot touch, we still have many memories of the one we love so much. Your memory is our keepsake, with which we’ll never part. God has you in his keeping, we have you in our hearts. Sadly, missed but never forgotten! SIP Lil Cuz.

- Dot

We loved you then, we love you now, and we will love you forevermore.

RIP Shantique, we will understand it after a while. “Forever is a long time, and that’s how long we’ll love you, that’s how long we’ll love you, forever!”

- Tristan Jean-Simon (Brother) & Keanna Smith (Cousin) - Valentino & Nevaeh (God Parents/Sister)

The little lady that lived up to her name Serenity; calm, peaceful, untroubled, that you were. Our sweet little girl touched lives in so many ways: your unconditional love, warming smile, tight meaningful hugs, and that carefree laugh. You may have been small in size, but you’ve always been the biggest personality in any room shining so brightly. It’s hard to say goodbye to the sweetest in this world, but farewell to our Princess. We thank God for the time that he loaned you to us because without you we may have never known the correct meaning of the word GRATEFUL. “THICKNESS” you taught us love. You will forever be a part of us, and that is indeed a long time. Sleep in perfect peace.

To My Baby Sister Serenity

From the very first day that I met you, you assured me that you were extraordinary. You greeted me with “My name is Serentiy Shantique Noelle Renae Brown”, in that order! You also spelled it out for me. I was so amazed that a 4-year-old could’ve told me her name, age, date of birth and both parents’ name when she never attended any form of school. Kind, happy, determined and respectful are just a few words that best describe your character. Despite your condition you were full of joy and always remained positive. When asked how you were doing, you always replied “I alright”’ despite the many challenges you were facing. I will really miss getting you dressed for parties. Even down to the barrettes in your hair or the belt you wore, they were always color coor dinated. As your mom Lythera requested that everything should always match. You would smile at the results of your outfit. You always loved to dress up. How could I ever forget our sleepovers, car rides and park dates with ice cream. You were always excited when I said I was coming to pick you up. Even though we were not blood sisters, I never looked at you any differently. It saddens me that God called you home so early, but I know that you are in a better place. No more pain and no more suffering Babygirl. Even death could never weaken the bond we shared. I will always carry the memories we made in my heart forever. I will never ever forget you. Love you always!

-Evette, Salomie and Leandra Albury

To the sweetest little girl that I had ever met. Just when I was growing to love and know you, you left me. I will always love you, Babygirl.

-Mrs. Rolle

To Serenity: I couldn’t believe that you had passed away. When my mom called and told me that, I thought I was dreaming. As soon as those words came out of her mouth, I broke down screaming and crying. I couldn’t eat for a day. It was just a sad day for me Serenity. I know you are watching over me. I love you from the bottom of my heart. I wish that you didn’t have to die at a young age. RIP My Love!

- Daneisha Lewis (Class of 2023 Ridgeland Primary

To Serenity: All the good times we had and the fun times me and you had, all I could say is “I love you, Serenity!” I remember when you used to call me, and I used to call you. Serenity, well just know I miss you and I love you so so much!

- From Tyjanae Major (Class of 2023 Ridgeland Primary School)

In Appreciation

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our family, friends and colleagues for your support during our time of sorrow. Your prayers, telephone calls, condolences and other sympathetic gestures gave us strength and courage to carry on.
