Imagine a space com plete with comfortable seating, outdoor lighting and audio technology — with plenty of shade, plus privacy walls or screens, so everyone feels relaxed while enjoying the space. Whether you’re hosting a family meal or special celebration, you’ll want plenty of seating for every one. Here are two trending options:
• Seat walls — Outdoor built-in seating has been trending for years, especially around fire fea tures. Now the trend has found its way to out door kitchens, helping define the space, adding a striking aesthetic and providing ample seating for large “Moderngatherings.outdoordesigns blur the line between indoor and outdoor living,” said Joe Raboine, Di rector of Residential Hardscapes at Belgard. “Out door kitchens are becoming not only much more efficient and functional, but also tons more fun to spend time in — while also adding a lot of value to your home.” (BPT)

Make Your Outdoor Kitchen Functional, Inspiring
The outdoor kitchen can now be a fully function al, efficient, comfortable and beautiful area, not just for occasional entertaining, but everyday living.

• Bar-style seating is popular in outdoor kitchen design for the same reason it’s popular in interi or kitchen design: It creates a communal at mosphere where family and guests can interact during meal prep. With the addition of a tele vision, it becomes the perfect spot for outdoor tailgating.
• Gas timers
Gone are the days of the simple patio, grill and picnic table. Today’s homeowner is prioritizing the health and wellness benefits of spending time out side, fostering a serene and enjoyable space to be used every day.
Designing Spaces with Multiple Uses
Belgard pavers, walls, walkways or fire pits.
• Smoker trays
— with stainless steel cabinet doors and drawers that resist rot, weather and insects. Stainless also adds a striking look to coordinate with grills and appliances.
O
utdoor living spaces have expand ed into fully realized environments over the past couple of years, and this is especially true for kitchens. While previous outdoor spaces may have boasted a grill or smoker to encourage dining al fresco, today’s homeowner expects a great deal more.
Also consider updating your porch light fixtures for added appeal and safety. Be sure to consider your home’s style and the fixture’s configuration to ensure it illuminates your walkway or porch ad equately, and for added time and money savings, choose fixtures that use the same mounting sys tem as your current ones. Complete your entry way upgrade by choosing a new entry door handle or lockset that complements your house numbers and light fixtures for the most cohesive look. For all three, bronze finishes often look best with tra ditional homes, while brushed nickel suits more modern ones.
Since your front door is exposed to the elements, simply washing away some of the built-up dirt and grime can breathe new life into this focal point of your home. For an affordable, more eye-catching upgrade, consider painting your front door a bold, vibrant hue that coordinates with the rest of your home’s color palette to help draw buyers in. You can also add visual interest with a simple seasonal wreath.
From adding flowers around your mailbox or planters on your porch, to installing window box es for an added pop of color, this is an easy and affordable afternoon project that instantly makes your home look more welcoming, approachable and modern while adding to its perceived value. Be sure to choose varieties that will get enough sun light based on where they’re planted and mix and match colors based on your home’s color scheme for the best results.
s the temperatures start to cool down, this is another good time to spruce up your home — both indoors and out. It’s a well-known fact that homes with strong curb appeal not only tend to sell faster, but also have higher perceived home values —as much as 7%-14% more. While there are many large-scale renovations that can add curb appeal to your home, there are just as many simple re freshes you can make without spending a lot of time or money.

With the continual rise of social media use among our youth, parents are now having to be proactive to protect their children. From Snapchat to Instagram, TikTok to Facebook, our youth now have the ability to easily buy drugs with the tap of a finger.Mostrecently, our law enforcement and health workers have reported a rise in Fentanyl, a syn thetic opioid that is 50 to 100 times stronger than morphine. This drug is now being laced into other pills, causing fatal consequences to those who are unaware of what they are actually taking.

you can add the role of Badass War rior General to the resume. From the moment Davis’ Gen. Nanisca steps out of the shadows and into the night — her body marked by scars, her hair curled into a semi-Mohawk — as she twirls a formidable scimitar and leads her soldiers into a battle against a nearby tribe that has kidnapped and enslaved dozens of locals, we have zero doubt of her ferocity, her deter mination and her willingness to do whatever it takes in the name of vic tory. Nanisca is practically a god in the eyes of her troops and the people of the village, and rightfully so.

Davis Expands Her Strong Screen Credits as a Legendary Warrior

Filmed in South Africa and brim ming with lush scenery, impressively staged production design and intri cately beautiful costumes, hair and makeup, “The Woman King” is set in the West Africa of the 1820s. The all-female Royal Guard protects the vibrant and thriving kingdom of Da homey, where the politically pragmat ic King Ghezo (John Boyega) wisely keeps Nanisca close as a trusted advis er. Ghezo has the best interests of the people at heart — even if that means paying annual “tributes” of goods and some of his own people to the power ful and ruthless warlord Oda (Jimmy Odukoya) of the Oyo Empire, who does business with the Portuguese slave traders who sail to the continent periodically to take what isn’t theirs.
We’ve long known Davis can han dle any type of part imaginable, and

ests above those of the team. Why, it’s almost as if Nanisca sees her younger self in “TheNawi.Woman King” also veers into pure soap opera territory with the arrival of the Portuguese slave trader Malik (Jordan Bolger), who is incredibly naive about the realities of buying, imprisoning and enslav ing human beings and is conflicted because his father was white, but his mother was Dahomey. Malik has the ripped abs of a 21st-century fitness model and whips his hair around like a 19th-century Fabio as he instantly falls for Nawi, and that’s complicated, because the Agojie must take a vow of celibacy and never have children. There’s also a dramatic development fairly late in the story that defies cre dulity, but we’re willing to go with it because by this time, we’ve become deeply invested in these strong, loyal and inspirational characters.
After the initial action sequence, “The Woman King” spends consider able time within the walls of the royal palace and the training grounds for a new group of Royal Guard recruits, and though Davis’ presence looms large even when she’s offscreen, the point of view often shifts to Thuso Mbedu’s Nawi, a naive teenager with a rebellious streak whose father liter ally gave her away after she refused to be wed to a cruel and much older man. With Nanisca’s loyal right-hand Izogie (Lashana Lynch, doing mem orable work) becoming a mentor to Nawi, we get a series of rough-andtumble training sequences straight out of “An Officer and a Gentleman.”

Working from a screenplay by Dana Stevens (based on a story by Stevens and the actor Maria Bel lo, who championed this project for years), director Prince-Bythewood has a fine eye for intimate dramatic scenes as well as the battle sequences, which follow the time-tested pattern of giving us quick-cut shots of doz ens of warriors slicing and dicing one another up (albeit in PG-13 fashion), and then following the main rivals — in this case, Nanisca and the evil warlord Oda — who always manage to find one another amid the dust and blood and chaos, so they can square off for one prolonged and exciting fight to the finish.

According to writer Thomas Harper, “Joy is the cause, not the effect, of good in our lives and it increases for us through use.”
Yet, everything in life is in a con stant state of flux, including joy and sorrow. So living small to avoid being vulnerable doesn’t protect us from disappointment and it forecloses on all the opportunities in life to feel bliss.Joy can feel ominous if we fear vulnerability. But paradoxically if we allow ourselves to be vulnera ble enough to speak, think and act with joy, fear cannot overtake it.

The dining table is the founda tion of a dining area. After all, people need to have somewhere to sit and eat. Remember to measure the di mensions of the room carefully, as furniture can look much smaller in warehouse stores or furniture show rooms than in a home.

Pottery Barn suggests using a mix of lighting sources to create the right lighting needs in the space. Floor lamps, an overhead chandelier, wall fixtures, and natural light need to blend and be adjusted as needed. Also, choose an overhead chandelier that complements the shape of the dining table. For example, a round fixture will look best above a round table.

Low Cash Mode, a tool that offers transparency and choices to help customers avoid fees by managing low-cash moments or mis timed payments, is a feature available in the PNC Virtual Wallet account through the PNC Bank Mo bile
For example, if you opt to pay your rent or car payment – and avoid a penalty or a negative impact to your credit score by simply paying an overdraft fee – then the option to overdraft has provided a value.“Removing the ability to overdraw an account doesn’t address the fact that many customers need to pay bills, even during temporary cash shortfalls,” says Alex Overstrom, head of Retail Banking at PNC Bank. “The key is that the consumer should be making the decision to incur or avoid fees, not just the bank.”
There is no doubt that overdraft fees serve as a pain point for many consumers, and as the issue of overdraft continues to be discussed and debated, several banks have taken different approaches in response.Somehave taken steps to address overdrafts, mostly by eliminating fees or eliminating the ability to overdraft
hen your bank account balance is low, life can be stressful. For ex ample, when it’s time to pay large expenses that can’t wait, like car loan payments or monthly rent, it’s all too easy to overdraft a bank account.
“Sometimes people just need a little more time to cover important expenses,” says Overstrom. “And in these moments, they should have choices to make things right.” (SPT) FINANCE

In many states the lockouts continued even after teach ers were given priority for vaccines. Of course this dis ruption can’t happen in a vacuum. It takes collaboration with political leaders to drive this kind of insane policy. In California and many other states, politicians lined up to do the union’s bidding. Political leaders did so willingly and eagerly and to hell with the kids and what it meant because they knew there were millions of dollars in cam paign contributions at stake.
of relationships built on trust, as do sports teams and families.
Marriages that provide long-term joy and safety are trust-dependent and trust-driven. It is not an over statement to say that trust is to relationship what oxygen is to life. Without it we die.
It’s time. Trust me.
The fact that we live in an increasingly sus picious society isn’t really news to most of us. We’ve all been taken in by the half-truths and blatant untruths that regularly flow from both Madison and Pennsylvania avenues. But it seems even more insidious when we realize we have good reason not to trust the each other. Apparently, we have a pervasive problem with our individual ethics.
The problems that flow from a general lack of trust are many. Without trust there can be no profitable negotiation, no assumption that directives will be carried out, and no certainty that production and efficiency will happen. Without trust there can be no true fiducia ry responsibility, and every enterprise that depends on our entrusting something to them will ultimately be degraded. And it goes with out saying that an erosion of common, societal trust will leave us even more isolated from one another than we already are.
Even worse, the United Federation of Teachers consulted directly with the Centers for Disease Control on pushing for lockouts. I guess this is the state of our society where a public-sector union can direct public health policy for tens of millions of children with zero expertise in the matter.
It would be interesting to compare and contrast test scores between lockdown states like California with those that did not lock down. Maybe California isn’t the best state to use as a comparison anyway, given our dismal 44th ranking (scholaroo.com/state-education-rankings). The entire situation wouldn’t be nearly as bad if they would just own their mistake, but we all know that’s never going to happen. “Oh, your kids are dumber? Nothing to see here, move along.”
The teachers’ unions had no more expertise than a fire fighter or banker or a pilot in directing complex pandemic public health policy.
Local resident David Hegg is senior pastor of Grace Baptist Church. “Ethically Speaking” appears Sundays.
According to the New York Times, the pandemic lock downs of our schools have been disastrous to our children. It’s reported that the reading and math scores of 9-yearolds has dropped to what it was two decades ago! The damage to minority children is even more profound! They are finally admitting what most of us knew all along.
Opinion
You know, the ones unions and politicians pretend to care about the most.
In every human society relationship is essen tial. You can’t live without it. Yet, every healthy relationship springs from the soil of trust. Think about it. Businesses flourish because

The research speaks to a falling off of what is termed “societal trust.” This refers to the common tendency to trust those around us to do the right thing, mean what they say, and keep their commitments. It also assumes that in a given situation, honesty will rule, and the good of the many will drive personal action. In practical terms it means we don’t have to lock our cars when we go into the store, can leave our iPad to reserve a table at Starbucks while ordering our drink, and assume that a briefcase left at the restaurant where we ate lunch will be kept safely until we return to retrieve it.
Finally, I want to state that the public schools here in Santa Clarita are excellent. But this isn’t really about kids here in Santa Clarita although I’m sure a large number of them suffered as well. It’s really about the kids in urban and rural areas of the state who were already having a tough time at it.

According to a recent AP-GfK poll, only onethird of our neighbors think we can be trusted.
much attention is focused on America’s rising financial deficit, there may be an even more troubling social trend on the rise.
And if you winced at any of those examples, you’re probably part of the 66% who increas ingly believe it is unwise to trust people.
We Don’t Trust Each OtherNot Learning During the Pandemic!
The problem we are facing is not merely a diminishing level of societal trust. It is much graver than that. What we are seeing is a pervasive dismantling of the very concepts of right and wrong. Absolute truth has suddenly become passé while pragmatism and relativism have become fashionable. But these can never provide a solid foundation for belief, much less action. And so we watch as America leaves its intellectual and ethical moorings in order to sail on the sea of individualism and tolerance runIt’samok.timeto reconsider our tendency to throw away traditional values. It’s time to reconstitute our fundamental American belief that we are one nation under God, and that God’s Word still provides the best option for creating and maintaining an ethical society that desires to be the best hope of the world. It’s time to recov er our convictions. It’s time to become people our clients, neighbors and children can trust.

But if we dig down deeper we’ll find that trust is not an end in itself. It rises from something even more fundamental. Trust is the flower that grows on the stem of a radically consistent way of life. You can only trust what you can safely predict when it comes to the way another person will think and act. And this kind of consistency will be evidence that the trustworthy person has, at his or her core, an inviolable belief system composed of propositional truths to which they have made a purposeful commitment. In other words, a worldview that shapes who they are, and who you may safely trust them to be. They are people who possess, and are pos sessed by, conviction.

I know it’s not very stylish to criticize the education cartel, but they have it coming. They locked kids out of school who had a zero chance of dying from COVID ab sent other health issues. Nobody, including and especially the teachers union leadership, thought to do an analysis of what would happen if you locked kids out of school for up to two years.
