DESPITE a week-long postponement of Pag-iririmaw 2022, the “Greatest Show” resumed its afternoon events on November 4, 2022 as it took over the stage of the WVSU’s Cultural Center with its much-awaited highlights: the Drag Queen Competition and Mr. and Ms. Pag-irirmaw 2022. Among the nine participating colleges vying for the “Queen of Queens” title, Danilo Clataro Jr., a.k.a. Blanch E Nana, a 4th-year Bachelor of Secondary Education English Major who portrayed Whitney Houston, bested
the other contestants as he wowed with his splendid performance during the different segments of the competition. “This win validates my caliber of drag, despite doing it just for the first time. It shows
that drag queens in Western Visayas deserve a seat in the global scene, and it is only fitting to take over the world,” said Clataro. Furthermore, COE snatched the 3rd place in mass dance competition that was held on October 28, 2022 prior to the postponement of the event. On the other hand, COE bets for Mr. and Ms. Pag-iririmaw, Romavil Abelarde, a Bachelor of Special Needs Education Elementary freshperson, was hailed Ms. Pag-iririmaw 3rd runner-up and Vincent Crishtopher King, a Bachelor of Secondary Education - Science sophomore, won Mr. Photogenic in the special awards. “To be hailed as the Ms. Pag-iririmaw 3rd runner-up is already a win not just for me but also to the whole college. What I love the most all throughout this journey was the historic momentum we had built, the friendship we had with other colleges; we ignited as one, empowered camaraderie, and left a legacy that will mark on history,” said Abelarde as she shared her winning experience. Out of all the colleges in the university, COE once again proved that it embodies excellence as it won 2nd place in the overall tally of results when the event concluded. The first spot was bagged by the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) while the College of Business and Management (CBM) made it to the 3rd place.

“Despite that, we have a very short period of time for preparation. I am very happy that all organizations were very cooperative and very active in recruiting participants, and of course, involving themselves in the different programs and activities prepared by the ESC,” said John Paul Supapo, event chairperson, during his opening remarks. The winners of the aforementioned contests were the following: Yancy Aubrey Panugon of Circle of Mathematicians (COM) for Photo Contest, Jade Bacalangco of Kapisanang Diwa at Panitik (KADIPAN) for Instructional Material Making, Majors of Values Education (MOVE) for Accomplishment

Video Contest, Special Education Students’ Association (SPEDSA) for Group Podcast Contest and Digital Art Contest, English Majors’ Organization (EMO) for Short Film Contest, and Social Science Students’ Society (3S’ Society) for Taga-Ed Storya. Furthermore, part of the said event was the presentation of the college organizations’ accomplishment videos that were initially grouped based on the main character of the Marvel comics’ Eternals Beings. This year’s Sinadya sa Ed aimed to discover and exhibit more talents, empower taga-Ed students, and encourage cooperation.

ESC is outstanding UNESCO club, lone awardee from WV Shenette Lape and Marron Aerielle Bonotano
OUT OF ALL accredited clubs in Western Visayas, WVSU Education Student Council (ESC) rose as the only awardee for the Outstanding UNESCO Club for College LevelEducation Category. ESC will receive the citation this upcoming 2022 International Youth for UNESCO (Y4U), Dec. 9-11, at Bayview Park Hotel, Manila. “Receiving this award is something that signifies the hard work of the officers, especially of our seniors from the previous school year. The award becomes a validation of how other organizations, such as UNESCO, recognized the work and effort of our council,” Mi Herzelle Siason, ESC chairperson, commented. The same designation was given multiple times to the student council since being accredited as a UNESCO club member; however, in this year’s roster, they are the only club awarded in Region VI under Education Category.
“I believe that if we keep on doing the things that made us worthy of the acknowledgement and if we continue to strive for excellence in service, then we can proudly say that we are looking forward to attaining the same award. If not by luck, maybe we can also grab the award as the Outstanding UNESCO Club for College Level,” Siason added. The basis for the selection were the club’s activities, events, achievements, and their flagship project, 1st International Youth Summit & 33rd ESC Leadership Camp, implemented last 2021 despite the pandemic and is aligned with the concept of youth as agents of social transformations, sustainable development, and peace. Moreover, two other organizations in the College of Education - the Special Education Students’ Association and Social Science Students’ Society- received the same award under the Information and Communication category and Social and Human Science category, respectively.
COE preps incoming freshies for new learning platform Fides Anna Notes
NAVIGATING Brightspace, the new learning platform, has become so much easier after undergraduate students were given a virtual orientation from 1- 3 p.m. last Sept. 16, 2022 via Zoom conference and Facebook live. Dr. Rosemarie Galvez Felimon, a professor of mathematics education, helped the students of the College of Education (COE) familiarize the layout of Brightspace by demonstrating how to carry out simple tasks such as passing assignments and answering quizzes. “I hope you will take time to explore Brightspace and maximize its features,” Dr. Felimon said. To name some of the features, there is the discussion tab for students to share their insights; the content tab where they can access their lesson guides and learning resources; and the class progress tab to keep track of their grades, content, assignments, and quizzes. “Brightspace is far different from Google Classroom but through the orientation, I was
able to know where to start and I’ve gained knowledge of the basic things and from there, I wasn’t scared to explore,” said Jane Marinelli B. Davila of BSED 1A. Moreover, Dr. Felimon reassured the students that the COE Learning Management System managers are working hard to provide students with quality service. After every discussion, Dr. Felimon addressed several questions and concerns about the platforms and 100-peso load cards were given by the Education Student Council (ESC) to students who were able to answer questions given in-between talks. e y th pla e r can y You inar b the web nning sca code: QR
